The Mummy's Shroud (1967)

FAQ

The Mummy's Shroud

FAQ

A team of archeologists led by Egyptologist Sir Basil Walden (André Morell) and financed by wealthy industrialist Stanley Preston (John Phillips) discover the lost tomb of the boy Pharaoh Kah-to-Bey. Even after being warned by Hasmid (Roger Delgado), the Bedouin 'keeper of the tomb', about the curse that will befall those who desecrate a mummy's tomb, they move Kah-to-Bey's remains, the sacred shroud that covers him, and the mummy of Kah-to-Bey's faithful servant Prem (Dickie Owen) to the Restoration House. Soon, Prem begins to kill one-by-one the archeologists who dared to violate the tomb of his king.

The Mummy's Shroud is based on a story and screenplay by British screenwriters Anthony Hinds and John Gilling.

Claire (Maggie Kimberly) seeks out the old fortune-teller (Catherine Lacey) who warns her that she will soon die but offers her a way to save herself by going to the Restoration House and begging Prem's forgiveness. Claire obeys but, as she is speaking, Hasmid utters the words that bring Prem to life. Prem awakens, and Hasmid orders him to kill Claire. Prem begins to advance on Claire just as Paul and Inspector Barrani (Richard Warner) arrive. They try to fight off the mummy by shooting him and hitting him with an axe but nothing slows him down. Paul tells Claire to say aloud the words on Kah-to-Bey's shroud, but Hasmid laughs, pointing out that only the one holding the shroud can control Prem. Consequently, Barrani shoots Hasmid, who drops the shroud. Claire picks it up and reads the words of life and death, causing Prem to slowly crumble to dust before their eyes. In the final scene, Claire replaces the shroud over Kah-to-Bey's bones.
