A judge in Maryland Chancery Court has ruled that the merger of the two companies will not be paused while the court considers a lawsuit brought by five New York public employee pension funds. Disney Branded Television has ordered a fifth season of Disney Jr. and Marvel’s preschool megahit Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends. The news comes on the heels of the series recently moving ahead of both Paw Patrol and Cocomelon to become the No. 2 streaming series for Kids and Boys 2-5 during the last quarter of 2024, second only to Bluey.

YouTube TV announced late last night that it had reached a “short-term extension” to its carriage rights deal with Paramount, wherein the Google-owned TV streaming service will continue providing subscribers with such channels as CBS, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV, TV Land and BET, among other networks and services.

“We’ve reached a short term extension as we work toward a deal with Paramount to keep their content on YouTube TV,” the service said in a statement. “YouTube TV subscribers continue to have access to Paramount channels, including CBS, and any recordings that are in their Library. We appreciate your patience as we continued to negotiate on your behalf. We also value Paramount’s partnership and willingness to work towards an agreement.”

Exclusive: HanWay Films has expanded its classics library after being appointed to represent The Cohen Film Collection.

The library of Cohen Media Group’s founder, Charles S. Cohen, comprises more than one hundred restored classic titles spanning from the silent era to the present day, including The Buster Keaton Collection and The Merchant Ivory Collection.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed and Cohen Media Group is the owner of HanWay, having acquired the company in 2022.

Late last year Charles Cohen’s media group hit choppy waters when the company was forced to sell multiple assets including British arthouse exhibitor and distributor Curzon to Fortress Investment Group. The company was acquired in a foreclosure auction involving multiple Cohen assets, including the Landmark cinema chain. Fortress had lent Cohen $534M but sued him last year for default. Cohen acquired Curzon in late 2019 amid a buying spree by the U.S. real estate developer.

For many, Martin Scorsese is the best gangster movie director of all time. His filmography is decorated with award-winning masterpieces that are set in cinematic history. In total, he's directed 26 narrative feature movies, winning Academy, BAFTA, Emmy, Golden Globes and Grammy Awards. Goodfellas was his movie for 1990. The plot was based on Nicholas Pileggi's biography Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family, which was about the life of Henry Hill. The film was largely well-received, with a first-class, mostly recognizable cast. Ray Liotta had been in five films before he was cast as the central character in Goodfellas.

Part of the reason for this big return has to do with the residual effects of the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Those historic Hollywood effects delayed production across the board. Disney Jr. closed out 2024 with four of the top 10 most-watched series among preschoolers across both linear and streaming platforms, TheWrap can reveal exclusively.

In 2024, Disney Jr. was behind “Bluey,” which ranks as the No. 1 most-watched show among preschoolers; “Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends,” which took third place; “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” which took the No. 6 spot; and “SuperKitties,” which was the No. 10 most-watched series in the age group. The channel also ranked as the No. 1 cable network for kids 2-5 for the third year in a row.

Not only is “Bluey” the No. 1 most-watched show for preschoolers, it also ranks as the No. 1 most-watched streaming show in 2024 through November, tallying up 50.5 billion minutes watched (842 million hours) for viewers in the U.S., according to Nielsen streaming data.
