It goes without saying that Dirty Harryis one of Clint Eastwood's most defining films and that it's an irreplaceable classic of the crime genre. Even to this day, the influence of San Francisco Police Department (Sfpd) Inspector Harry Callahan's (better known as "Dirty Harry") cinematic debut can still be felt. Dirty Harry himself has become something of a cliché. The same, however, can't be said for his sequels.
Much like any hit action film made in the '70s, Dirty Harry was a victim of its own success, as proven by its four sequels of varying qualities, inconsistent reception and diminishing returns. While this applies to weaker installments like the buddy-cop The Enforcer or the ludicrous The Dead Pool, the series' second installment — Magnum Force — is unfairly dragged down by association. This is unfortunate, since Dirty Harry's first sequel is arguably much better than the original.

Former Zorro Antonio Banderas trades swords and swashbuckling for grit and guns in one of his most underrated action thrillers, which is now streaming free. Released back in 2017, Acts of Vengeance evokes the best kind of action B-movie in this tale of a lawyer who never shuts up, vowing silence and revenge after his family is murdered.
Directed by Isaac Florentine, who has demonstrated his affinity for the genre before with frequent collaborations with action icon Scott Adkins in the likes of Ninja: Shadow of a Tear, Undisputed II: Last Man Standing, and Close Range, Acts of Vengeancestars The Boys’ Karl Urban alongside Banderas. The action outing, which proved divisive at the time, is well worth a second shot, and is available to stream free now on Tubi. You can check out the official synopsis for the revenge flick below.

When you think of "Dirty Harry," you most likely think of the seminal 1971 action thriller and not of the four official "Dirty Harry" films that came in its wake (five if you count 2008's "Gran Torino"). The original film remains one of the best action movies, and arguably best films, of the 20th Century, somehow appealing to our base appetite for all-out action while also presenting a nuanced portrayal of its problematic protagonist. Is Harry Callahan merely a walking advertisement for the efficacy of police brutality, or someone hampered in his pursuit of justice by a society that cares more about bureaucracy than actually catching the bad guy? It's not entirely clear in Don Siegel's film, which is part of the reason why it endures to this day.
But for better or worse, Eastwood did make a heck of a lot of follow-ups to "Dirty Harry" — a controversial film...

Clint Eastwood's most quoted movie of all-time is finally getting the 4k treatment. Eastwood's acting career is the stuff of legend, appearing in three of the most lauded westerns of all-time in Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy, an Oscar winning post-modernist Western, Unforgiven, as well as hits like Escape From Alcatraz and The Outlaw Josey Wales, and that doesn't include his directorial work. But, if there was one shot from a movie that is synonymous with Eastwood's career, and one misquoted line that goes with it, it has to be found in Dirty Harry.
Dirty Harry fans certainly feel lucky this month as the hit 1971 crime thriller is getting a remaster and a re-release. Per Blu-ray.com, Dirty Harry will be remastered in stunning 4K for a new physical release in the future. The announcement did not give a date for Dirty Harry's re-release.

Subscribers of the streaming service Max may be feeling lucky starting November 1 as one of Clint Eastwoods best movies will debut on the streamer on that date. Dirty Harry (1971) stars Eastwood as the titular character, Harry Callahan, a no-nonsense San Fransisco city police inspector who is in search of a murderer who uses a sniper rifle to kill innocent people. The film was directed by Don Siegel and the screenplay was written by Harry Julian Fink, R.M. Fink and Dean Riesner.
Dirty Harry has one of Eastwoods most famous lines as over his lunch break, he manages to foil an attempted bank robbery, shooting one man dead and holding another at gunpoint.

Having recently been cast in the Dcu's Lanterns series as John Stewart, Aaron Pierre's talent shows he's capable of playing another iconic character.

Clint Eastwoods iconic action thriller Dirty Harry is coming to Max in November, giving new audiences the chance to experience Eastwoods tough-talking inspector delivering one of the most quoted lines in cinema history. It is more than 50 years since Dirty Harry Callahan burst onto the screen and created a template for many other anti-hero characters across multiple genres, but it is always a treat for cinephiles to go back to one of the originals.
Eastwoods portrayal of Callahan continued to build the Hollywood legends reputation as a guaranteed box office draw, and arrived at a time when the world of movies was evolving from the less graphic crime and action movies of the 1950s and 1960s to a decade that became known for pushing boundaries in terms of on-screen violence. Clint Eastwood may have been made by the western, but he has certainly not been defined solely by it. His work over the years has crossed multiple genres, from horror films like Play Misty For Me to romances like The Bridges Of Madison County. Despite his ability to play in a variety of different genres, Eastwood has proved time and time again that he is made for action movies. While Eastwood's Western movies may prove some of his best, they are certainly not all he has to offer.
Having worked with greats of the action genre such as Don Siegel and Wolfgang Peterson, Eastwood has had a style of action film practically built around him. It is not just his Western shootouts that are remarkable. Never one to rely on heavy stunts and choreography, the language of his action films is unique. Clint Eastwood's The Enforcer beat Michael Bay to his best movie by a good 20 years. Despite having been a star for decades, there are surprisingly few Clint Eastwood movie franchises in existence. Clint always preferred to tackle new characters and stories, so outside of the Dollars trilogy or his Every Which Way... duology, he largely avoided reprising the same part. The key exception is the Dirty Harry movies, where Eastwood played San Francisco detective "Dirty" Harry Callahan a grand total of five times.
The original 1971 thriller was both hugely successful and controversial, with its story of a cop who takes the law into his own hands to stop a vicious serial killer. The first sequel, Magnum Force, dealt with the vigilante theme head on when Harry faced off with a squad of murderous cops, and the series became a reliable one for Clint throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The Supreme Court decision Miranda v. Arizona came down in 1966, and served as a crackdown on sloppy or abusive police interrogations. Miranda noted that suspects, when being arrested, had certain rights afforded them, including the right to remain silent while in custody, and the right to have a state-appointed attorney to defend them. Thanks to its use in an endless stream of cop shows and "Law & Order" reruns, most Americans can recite the Miranda warning by heart. We all now know that, upon arrest, we have the right to remain silent.
Not everyone was pleased about the Miranda decision, however, and many conservative pundits at the time felt that it only hamstrung police officers. There was a fear that truly evil criminals would exploit the system to their benefit, keeping silent and protected, while street cops -- knowing them to be guilty -- would be helpless to, say, beat a confession out of them.

The mid-nineties were a period of transition for Jet Li. Having made his name in period martial arts pieces during the aftermath of the new wave, the saturation point had been reached and stepping into the modern action movie was inevitable. Initial forays had been limited in their success (Dragon Fight & The Master) and it wasn't until the shameless “The Bodyguard” rip-off “Bodyguard from Beijing” in 1994 that he began to get accepted in this genre. “The Enforcer” to give “My Father is a Hero” its generic western release title was a reunion of star and director, only this time with added familial drama with a script co-written by Wong Jing. As Eureka Entertainment releases its “Heroes and Villain's” box set, it's time to revisit this transitional period of the star and see how it holds up today.

“Tough guy with heart of gold” is the cliché that provides the gist to “The Enforcer,” and nothing much turns up to refresh or complicate that hoary hook. This criminal-underworld thriller benefits from Antonio Banderas’ star charisma as a veteran mob strong-arm who turns against his own organization in order to rescue an imperiled teen. Richard Hughes’ feature directorial debut also elevates matters somewhat with a slick and stylish presentation. But the results remain too hogtied by original “Point Break” scribe W. Peter Iliff’s routine, elemental screenplay to rise above the level of disposable genre fodder.

"Those are some dangerous people." Screen Media Films has revealed an official trailer for a crime thriller from a first time filmmaker called The Enforcer, which is indeed about a mob enforcer. Truly an original name for this one. Miami's top mob enforcer Cuda, played by Antonio Banderas, sacrifices it all to tear down the criminal organization he's spent his whole life building up. He will give up everything to save a young girl he has befriended from his femme fatale boss who is involved in cybersex trafficking. It's his last chance to do something and make a difference before the mob comes after him. This definitely sounds like some derivative direct-to-vod junk, but somehow they got Banderas to star. The cast also includes Kate Bosworth, Mojean Aria, Zolee Griggs, and Alexis Ren, with 2 Chainz. This seems like yet another generic crime action film about rescuing young women. Same old story over and over.

Clint Eastwood’s “Dirty Harry” series of films are some of the most iconic American action movies ever made. Spanning two decades and five films, the “Dirty Harry” franchise looks at America’s changing attitude toward law enforcement and justice.
The first film, “Dirty Harry,” was released in 1971 and was an instant classic, spawning four sequels over the next two decades. While each film is excellent in its own right, there is a clear progression in how America is depicted, from a place of hope and optimism in the first film to a much more cynical and jaded outlook by the fifth film.
The story of all the movies revolves around a San Francisco Police Department inspector, “Dirty” Harry Callahan, played by Clint Eastwood. If you are a fan of action-packed cinema, you should watch “Dirty Harry” movies.

A new year has finally arrived and HBO Max is set to open it with a bang. With its list of new releases for January 2022, HBO Max is rolling out some intriguing original series and an absolutely packed slate of library titles.
The real highlight this month comes on Jan. 13 with the release of Peacemaker. Developed by James Gunn, this series spins off John Cena’s titular character from last years’ The Suicide Squad. The show will delve into the pathology of a superhero who will achieve peace regardless of how many people need to be killed to attain it.
Also of note this month are second seasons for two major HBO series. Euphoria season 2 and The Righteous Gemstones season 2 both premiere on Jan. 9, making for quite the odd double feature. Meanwhile, the fifth and final season of superb comedy Search Party arrives on Jan. 7.
January 2022 is light as far as original movies go.

Clint Eastwood, 91, opens “Cry Macho” tomorrow in theaters and HBO Max. It’s his 42nd film as a director, and perhaps his last. Reviewing his career reveals a dual nature about his role in film history that is surprising, but also explains his success.
Eastwood has been both one of the most successful and acclaimed directors and actors over the last half century. His commercial peak came in the 1980s, while his biggest acclaim as a director spanned 1992 (“Unforgiven”) through 2006 (“Letters from Iwo Jima”).
He signed his first contract with Universal in 1954, became a TV star with “Rawhide” in 1959, and landed the role that defined his persona in 1964 with Sergio Leone’s “A Fistful of Dollars.”
With 50 years behind the camera, he doesn’t have the longest-running career as a director; Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese started earlier and Agnes Varda’s filmmaking spanned 65 years. But Eastwood’s 51 years of...

While filming in Greece may conjure up images of beautiful sandy beaches and Cycladic landscapes with sparkling white buildings with blue domes, international producers are finding that there is so much more the territory has to offer. It combines sea, mountains, vast stretches of lands and archaeological sites. From medieval old towns to snow-capped Mount Olympus to volcanoes on Nisyros, Methana and Santorini, locations are varied and vast. The quality of light in the country is also a big attraction for film and television crews, with nearly 250 days a year of bright sunshine making it possible for crews to take advantage of long, light days.

There’s a lot of other great stuff on the way, too, though, be it classic films, underrated gems, brand new releases and much more, and you can check out the entire lineup, sorted by date, down below. Ready to dive in?
