Universal Pictures Content Group (Upcg) has started production onMalcolm Venville’suntitled Iron Maiden feature documentary, featuring interviews with past and present band members, devoted followers including Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich and Gene Simmons,and unseen footage.

Upcg holds global rights and Universal Pictures International is set to release in cinemas internationally in the autumn of 2025, coinciding with the band’s 50th anniversary year.

US theatrical distribution is yet to be confirmed.

The documentary is produced by the UK’s Dominic Freeman, whose credits include Spirits In The Forest – A Depeche Mode Film. Upcg’s Helen Parker executive produces.

M-Appeal has closed deals for two of its Ventana Sur titles: Marcela Lordy’s “The Book of Delights” to Pigeon Co. in Taiwan and “The Night of the Beast” from Mauricio Leiva Cock to HBO in Eastern Europe.

“The Book of Delights” is an Argentina-Brazil co-production between Cinematográfica Marcela and bigBonsai which had already sold in the U.S. and Japan before the Taiwan announcement was made. M-Appeal will be looking to secure deals in more territories during Ventana Sur.

While biding their time before Iron Maiden’s concert — their day is wrecked and friendship sorely tested when hoodlums steal their most valued possession: the tickets to see their favorite band perform live.

Iron Maiden played a high adrenaline, career-spanning setlist on their last tour and documented it for a new live album, Nights of the Living Dead: Legacy of the Beast: Live in Mexico City. The material comes from the three nights the group played at a Mexico City arena last September.

A limited-edition triple-lp will feature vinyl colored to match the Mexican flag; the collection will also be available in a limited-edition two-cd book format, as well as conventional two-cd, three-lp and digital releases. The record, in all its formats, will come out on November 20th.

Berlin-based sales outfit M-Appeal has acquired Colombian film “Night of the Beast,” produced by Fidelio Films and directed by Mauricio Leiva-Cock — the emerging showrunner behind Netflix’s “Green Frontier” and Movistar’s “Capital Noise.”

Leiva-Cock’s debut feature, “Night of the Beast,” is an urban road trip that follows two Bogota teenagers trying to get into the first Iron Maiden concert in Colombia, a historic event that had been awaited for three decades by fans of the metal band which eventually came to pass in 2008 in the Colombian capital. Metalheads of all ages pawned their instruments and saved for months to get the tickets.

Still in post-production, the film features a soundtrack of songs from Iron Maiden such as “Aces High” and “The Trooper” alongside Colombian metal bands like Vein, Agony, Masacre, Darkness, La Pestilencia and others.

A few songs into Iron Maiden’s set at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Saturday night, frontman Bruce Dickinson waged an onstage swordfight with a nine-foot-tall undead creature dressed as a British soldier. As the singer and the monster — a walking incarnation of the band’s trusty mascot, Eddie — dueled, the group’s five other members burned through “The Trooper,” Maiden’s pulse-quickening 1983 ode to the exhilaration and peril of 19th-century warfare. The scene was pure multimedia spectacle, absurd yet undeniably awesome — in other words, Iron Maiden in a nutshell.

“Our legacy is up to you to decipher really,” Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris says nonchalantly. British stage and screen veteran Bernard Hill, who played King Theoden of Rohan in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the ship's captain in Titanic, is to appear in independent sci-fi film Outpost 11.

He plays a character called Cranleigh. Leading the cast are Luke Healy, Joshua Mayes-Cooper and Billy Clarke, with support from Graham Till. Several production stills from the project are included here, along with the trailer.

Set in an alternative past where steam power still rules the world, Outpost 11 is the story of three soldiers manning a remote listening post in the Arctic Circle.

One day the warning light goes off unexpectedly and their world is plunged into chaos. Albert (Mayes-Cooper), Mason (Healy) and Graham (Clarke) must fight "isolation, madness and arctic spiders" to survive.

The story being set in a steampunk past makes a refreshing change from the usual post-apocalyptic future found in so many recent Hollywood releases.

The production designer Syd Cain, who has died aged 93, was one of many behind-the-scenes professionals elevated to something like prominence by the worldwide interest in the James Bond films. An industry veteran who began work in British cinema as a draughtsman in 1947, contributing to the look of the gothic melodrama Uncle Silas, Cain is credited on a range of film and television projects, but remains best known for his work in various design capacities on the 007 series, from Dr No in 1962 to GoldenEye in 1995.

Born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, Cain served in the armed forces in the second world war, surviving a plane crash and recovering from a broken back. Working at Denham Studios in Buckinghamshire in the 1940s and 50s, he moved up from uncredited draughtsman (on Adam and Evelyne, The Interrupted Journey, You Know What Sailors Are...

Okay, yes, "The Expendables," ended up being better as an "idea" than a reality. Sylvester Stallone gathered a bunch of over-the-hill action stars (including his "Rocky IV" opponent, Dolph Lundgren, and his "Get Carter" pal, Mickey Rourke) for a bloody shoot-'em-up designed to show all the young whippersnappers out there that the old men still got it. The resulting film had its moments but was ultimately too confusing, too haphazard and too, well, expendable.

But what are sequels for if not a chance to make things all better (don't answer that)?
