Throwback To Star Trek: 3 Actors Who Almost Took On Riker’s Role In Star Trek Before Jonathan Frakes
3 different actors had the chance to portray Riker in Star Trek(Photo Credit –Instagram)
Let’s go back in time and investigate the possible outcomes inside the Star Trek world. Who knows, perhaps the series might have gone entirely in a different path if another actor had played Riker!
1. Michael O’Gorman: The Almost-Riker Who Quit Acting
Think of a Star Trek where Michael O’Gorman, not Jonathan Frakes, served as Riker’s face. It’s an idea worth considering. O’Gorman has a limited background in acting, having played quirky characters in a number of forgotten syndicated series, including Monsters and Miami Vice. Despite his short list of credits, O’Gorman was a serious contender for Riker.
In a memo dated April 13, 1987, from John Ferraro, Senior Vice President for Paramount Pictures, O’Gorman’s name appeared alongside other top contenders such as Gregg Marx and Ben Murphy. Ferraro’s memo...

True crime movies have existed since the early days of cinema, and over the decades have become a prominent form of viewing experience. Some of the biggest movies in history have been based on tragic, cruel and downright hopeless true events, from Schindler’s List to Monster. The ‘70s brought about a real boom in movies using their factual backgrounds as selling points, particularly in the horror genre, with titles such as The Amityville Horror, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This could prove to be a controversial move that drew criticism for portraying the suffering of real people for the sake of entertainment. But often such movies cushioned the blow somewhat by deviating considerably from the events that inspired them, or at the very least allowing some time to pass before production began. One movie that did not offer any such courtesy was a British...

John McVicar died on 6 September 2022 of a heart attack, aged 82. He was a seasoned ex-convict who turned his hand from armed robbery to a career in journalism, writing about crime and justice for the Guardian, the New Statesman and Spiked. However, this biopic is not about McVicar, the autodidact. Instead, it is a crime film about McVicar’s 1968 prison break that’s told with an austere, turn-of-the-’80s aesthetic comparable to Scum, The Black Panther and The Long Good Friday.
Roger Daltrey’s presence may raise questions about McVicar’s seriousness, but this isn’t a lazy rock star vehicle — Daltrey assumes the role with a sinewy attitude that doesn’t want for credibility. Credible too are McVicar’s fellow inmates and the staff who corral them at Hmp Durham, where life is stark but not without goodwill. There is a fair amount of camaraderie, in fact, with conflict rarely going beyond coarse words.

“Fast X” predictably won a second weekend on top of the mainland China box office, driving its total past the $100 million mark. But the disappointing start for Disney’s live-action “The Little Mermaid” was the bigger talking point.
“Fast X” earned $17.6 million in China according to data from consultancy Artisan Gateway. That was a 66% drop compared with its opening weekend, but still gave the film a $110 million cumulative after 12 days and has caused estimates to be further revised upwards.
Ticketing agency Maoyan is now forecasting that the film will finish with RMB880 million ($126 million), having previously predicted RMB728 million ($104 million), and then RMB840 million.
That would make the film the top-scoring Hollywood title of the year (excluding 2022 release “Avatar: The Way of Water”). But the numbers are way down on past outings by the franchise.
To date, “Fast X” only ranks as the 49th best-performing Hollywood film in Chinese local currency terms.

To give the 2021 Golden Globes a much-needed cuteness overload, LA'Ron Hines, aka TikTok user @laronhinesofficial, interviewed a bunch of children to see just how much they knew about the award ceremony. (Spoiler alert: just as much as you'd think.) "What do people do at awards shows?" he asked before a little girl responded, "Sit on the couch and brush their teeth." Although, in a world of virtual ceremonies, she's not too far off. The true highlight wasn't their favorite song from Hamilton being Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road," nor was it them thinking the HFPA is an organization for when you get in trouble. In fact, it had nothing to do with the ceremony. "Who is Chadwick Boseman?" Hines asked. "Chadwick Boseman is the good guy," one little boy said after a chorus of "The Black Panther!"...

The Black Panther and (soon to be former) The Walking Dead actress as well as playwright has signed a two-year overall deal with ABC Studios. It’s official: “Joker” is a hit. The provocative Todd Phillips-directed Warner Bros. film, starring Joaquin Phoenix as the iconic DC Comics villain, had the biggest October weekend opening box office ever, with $93.5 million in ticket sales.
There was never a doubt that “Joker” would earn big bucks, but awards season recognition remains an open question.
As soon as the first trailer dropped in April, a chorus of praise was heaped upon Phoenix. The clip may only have been two minutes and 24 seconds long, but the glimpse of the actor as the clown-faced killer with a psycho laugh was met with Insta-predictions that Phoenix would secure his fourth Oscar nomination.
Since then, Warner Bros. staged the film’s world premiere in Venice, where it received an eight-minute standing ovation and picked up the Golden Lion. A few days later, the North American debut at the Toronto Film Festival earned Phoenix similar accolades.

There can only be one winner, but each of the Best Picture nominees overcame creative, financial and logistical hurdles to get this close to the finish line. Here are their war stories.
Black Panther
Fifty years ago, the phrase ‘Black Panther’ carried more political baggage than it does today, immediately summoning up images of a militant African-American revolutionary, named after by the controversial civil rights party founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in Oakland, California, in 1966. Created by Stan Lee in a bid to deliver the world’s first non-stereotype black superhero, the comic book of the same name materialized around the same time. Unusually, The Black Panther wasn’t an alter ego—it was the formal title for T’Challa, King of Wakanda—but Lee described the overlapping of names as “a strange coincidence”, adding that “maybe if I had it to do over again, I’d have...

While DC Comics icons like Superman and Batman starred in a series of successful films back in the day, Marvel Comics stable of superheroes and villains were in a much more precarious place for decades. Marvel went bankrupt in the mid-90s. The Marvel Universe was broken apart in a myriad of licensing deals, with movie and TV rights to their biggest characters and supporting casts spread across different studios. We recently unearthed a fascinating report from Hollywood trade publication Variety, published in December 1992, which offered a look at Marvel's slate way before the blockbuster success of the Avengers, or even the X-Men. Here we'll take a look at 9 Marvel Movies We Almost Got in the '90s.

Black filmmakers had a record year at the box office in 2018 — earning a record $1.5 billion at the domestic box office from 16 films.
In addition, this was the first year in which five films by black filmmakers topped $100 million in North American ticket sales in the same year.
The biggest domestic box office hit of the year was Ryan Coogler’s “The Black Panther,” which grossed $700.1 million in North America and $1.3 billion worldwide. It also featured a predominantly black cast of actors playing characters representing a range of perspectives, and addressing struggles and themes that black audiences know all too well.
But there were a wealth of hits by other black filmmakers, including Steven Caple Jr.’s Michael B. Jordan boxing film “Creed II,” which has earned $112.2 million; the $104.1 million-grossing animated hit “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” co-directed by Peter Ramsey and featuring Afro-Latino character Miles Morales as the webslinger; and Antoine Fuqua’s “The Equalizer 2,...

First up comes the 10 part series Breeders. The comedy will expose the paradox of parenting that it is possible, in the same moment, to love your child to the horizon of the universe, while being apoplectically angry enough to want to send them there.
Freeman stars as a caring father discovering he’s not quite the man he thought he was.

It seemed like a lot of Marvel fans loved Letitia Wright's character Shuri, who was introduced in Black Panther and also had a role to play in Avengers: Infinity War. A lot of fans referred to her as being Disney's newest Disney Princess. Well, thanks Hot Toys has given the character her very own action figure and you can check out all of the details below. As you'd imagine, the figure turned out great and fans of the character will be happy with how it turned out.

The cynical action comedy “Gringo” aims right for an imagined sweet spot where “Midnight Run” and “Ruthless People” meet, get drunk, and roll “Fargo” in an alley somewhere. But this wildly uneven mix of nasty and nervy — which drops a hapless corporate Everyman played by David Oyelowo into a pinging kidnap scenario in Mexico — is primarily a time-waster, trotting out clichéd misadventure tropes and predictable zigzags in a manner neither terribly funny nor suspenseful. Shot two years ago from a script written years prior, which would explain why its drug kingpin character is named The Black Panther (oops!),...

“Black Panther” continued its record-breaking performance with a third-weekend total of $66.7 million. That’s a tremendous holdover — at adjusted levels, better than “Titanic” (which was a New Years’ weekend, no less) and “The Avengers.”
The Marvel film’s domestic haul is now over $500 million in only 17 days; that’s better than six of 2017’s nine Best Picture nominees. It is close on the heels of “The Avengers,” whose adjusted 17-day gross was $517 million (unadjusted, it stood at $458 million, which is why Disney and others misleadingly claim “Panther” is already bigger).
All that aside, the third weekend showed that Ryan Coogler’s film has tremendous momentum. Its drop was just 41 percent — better than “The Avengers,” which dropped 46 percent at the same point. That gives it a better shot at ultimately topping the adjusted $706 million that “The Avengers” earned in its domestic release. It’s a trajectory that, even in a worst-case scenario,...

Barely into March, and “Black Panther” could be the biggest domestic release of 2018. It’s passed $430 million in its first two weeks, is approaching $800 million worldwide, and is on track to pass $600 million in North America, and more than $1 billion worldwide.
So many records in so little time. However, the film’s greatest impact doesn’t lie with its bragging rights. “The Black Panther” stands a real chance of reinventing the realities of studio filmmaking, of the release calendar, and the exhibition business of North America. Here’s how that’s happening, right now.
Big-Budget, Afro-Centric Films Make Money
“Black Panther” reportedly cost $200 million, similar to most Marvel (and rival D.C. Comics) titles. It will be one of the five or so most-expensive films of the year, and the P&A will cost more than half again as much. In the past, that financial weight was evidence against producing big-budget “difficult” films (read: female-led,...

Integrating the world’s most famous X-Men characters (see: Wolverine, Fantastic Four) into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a huge and potentially groundbreaking conundrum, but in the eyes of Ryan Coogler, there is only one man for the job: Kevin Feige.
The Black Panther director spoke to ComicBook.com in anticipation of his McU effort clawing its ways into theaters, and when Coogler was pressed about the possibility of Storm (Aka Ororo Munroe) manifesting in a Black Panther sequel, the filmmaker pointed Cb in the direction of Kevin Feige, as he’s the one holding all the cards.
To be honest with you, I don’t know enough about that acquisition to even talk about it, man. I’m like caught up there while we were trying to finish the movie. So, I think, look — if it’s something that goes through, I can’t think of better hands for...

Marvel has released two new featurettes for Black Panther that show the cast talking about their characters and the intense action in the movie. Black Panther has been hailed as one of the most anticipated movies of 2018 and is already breaking Marvel records for the most amount of presale tickets sold in 24 hours, leaving many fans out of luck for hopes of seeing the movie on opening night. Black Panther star Lupita Nyong'o wasn't even able to purchase the presale tickets when they first went online due some ticket servicing outlets crashing, much like The Last Jedi.
The first of the new behind-the-scenes clips features the cast talking about their characters. Chadwick Boseman is shown first and reveals that T'Challa is in a unique position since he is a superhero and also a world leader. There's not many superheroes who are in that position, so it adds a different slant...

One of the world's best artists is producing an entire album in honor of Marvel's Black Panther and the lead single is Hot!
File this under Cool Movie News, Kendrick Lamar is producing an album for Marvel's Black Panther. Working alongside Lamar will be Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, who just earned Billboard's Executive of the Year. Together they plan on collaborating with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler to try and capture the true essence of the film.
Two things make this working relationship special. 1. This is the first time that an McU film will have a soundtrack that includes multiple original tracks, specifically made for the film. 2. Kendrick Lamar was Coogler's pick to create the soundtrack, to begin with.
“I am honored to be working with such an incredible artist whose work has been so inspirational, and whose artistic themes align with those we explore in the film.

This January, just ahead of the highly anticipated film, Marvel will reveal T’Challa’s journey to become king of Wakanda in Rise of the Black Panther, co-written by io9 senior writer Evan Narcisse and Black Panther writer Ta-Nehisi Coates, along with artist Paul Renaud. Set in the world of Coates’ landmark Black Panther book, this new series will tell the story of Young T’Challa and his lineage, showing how the world learns about the wondrous nation of Wakanda for the first time.
This 6-issue run will also explore the reign of T’Chaka, the king whose death changed Wakanda’s history, and the life of T’Challa’s birth mother – someone T’Challa never had the chance to know. Narcisse will be making his comics debut with this series, and each issue will feature a painted cover by Black Panther artist Brian Stelfreeze.

For a while, fans seemed to be getting sick of Spider-Man. This is, after all, a character whose origins we saw twice on the big screen in around a ten-year timespan. Coming into yet another Spider-Man film -- Spider-Man: Homecoming -- the studio really needed to highlight the differences between those other two Spider-Man interpretations, and this one. Right off the bat, there are a few different highlights. We have, (a) Peter Parker’s age, (b) Peter’s connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and (c), that suit, man.
The trailers have done a lot to highlight each of these three points with its high school setting and Tony Stark’s presence, but today, Sony released a little featurette that highlights the tech behind Spider-Man’s new suit. In the 1960s, the Black Panthers were the number one target of the FBI. They were viewed as terrorists and J. Edgar Hoover, the longtime leader of the most powerful police force in the world, was hell bent on getting rid of them by hook or by crook.

Thirty-five years after it vanished, The Black Panther – Ian Merrick's 1977 film about serial killer Donald Neilson – emerges as a gripping and highly responsible true-crime movie
After nearly four decades, Donald Neilson, aka the Black Panther, seems in retrospect like some figment of the phantasmagoric north England of the 1970s, the gothic, occult north of David Peace and the Red Riding trilogy. His crimes – countless burglaries, three murders (of village postmasters), and the kidnapping of teenage heiress Lesley Whittle – took him on meticulously planned nocturnal peregrinations across the north and the Midlands against the unfolding background of the three-day week, the oil crisis, and the Ira's first sustained mainland bombing campaign. ★★★★☆ New to Dual Format DVD/Blu-ray courtesy of the BFI Flipside stable, Ian Merrick's serial killer drama The Black Panther (1977) was hounded out of cinemas upon its original release thanks to a media-driven witch hunt, appalled by the film's non-sensationalist, clinical exploration of real-life murderer Donald Neilson. Comparable with Michael Powell's Peeping Tom (1960), though marginally the inferior film, The Black Panther represents the very best of 1970s British filmmaking - and the very worst of humanity in its titular psychopath.
