Dawn Wells was unavailable to reprise the role of Mary Ann because of theater commitments and Tina Louise no longer wanted to play Ginger and refused to let Filmation use her likeness. Both characters where voiced by Jane Webb, but to give the illusion that two actresses were used, and for it to work in the cartoon's title tune, she was credited by her professional name, Webb, as Ginger, and by her maiden name, Jane Edwards for the Mary Ann credit.
Many of the episodes in this series consist of the retelling of some of the original Gilligan's Island stories, but include things regarding that could have been the fourth season of the original series, such as Gilligan having a pet monkey.
FILMATION TRADEMARK: When the group is walking together, each character has its own exaggerated walk.
The Skipper's hair is red rather than gray, as it is in the live-action series.
