Numerous times on and off throughout the course of the series, people make a left when they leave through the exit of the Jeffersons' apartment. The layout of the hallway has Harry Bentley's apartment at the end about a couple feet away at corner on the left side of the Jeffersons' apartment. So it means logically they are just walking right into the door of Bentley's apartment instead of going straight across to the elevator.
In the Season 5 backdoor pilot episode of All in the Family that spawned The Jeffersons, George says they're leaving the neighborhood in a limousine, yet the intro shows them arriving at the apartment house in a taxi.
The title sequence shows George and Louise leaving their old neighborhood in a taxi, accompanied by a moving van. In many episodes they make it clear that their old neighborhood was Harlem, and the theme song says they're "movin' on up to the East side." At one point in the title sequence they cross the Queensboro Bridge, with views of the U.N., Empire State, and Chrysler buildings. Harlem to the East side is entirely within Manhattan. There would be no reason to cross any bridge.
