The martial arts genre is one of the broadest genres in media history. In the same way that the combat sports definition of martial arts encompasses hundreds of different fighting styles, the martial arts genre contains many stories, from grand historical epics covering the rise and fall of kingdoms to gritty modern-day dramas focusing on personal tales of violence and revenge.
The anime medium is no different, as many series have featured martial arts. However, these series are often nothing alike, covering many genres, tones, and styles. Because of this, finding the best martial arts anime movie can be tricky, as no two films use martial arts exactly the same way.

Many films have been made that drew their inspiration and aesthetics from video games, manga and anime, but few as successfully, as exciting and as exhilarating as “Escape from the 21st Century”. Li Yang‘s madcap sci-fi adventure is a visual feast boasting excellent visual effects despite its low budget, a convincing mix of live footage and 2D animation and a rousing spectacle that can only honor its many inspirations.
Escape from the 21st Century is available from Signature Entertainment
It is almost impossible to describe the story while doing justice to the film’s nonsensical sense of fun. On distant planet K in 1999, a trio of teenagers are exposed to a toxic chemical that gives them the ability to travel through time to the year 2019 and back… by simply sneezing. The live-action Street Fighter movie that's in the works recently suffered a setback, but that hasn't stopped the film from getting a release date. It's now been set for a release in theaters in 2026, giving Sony and Legendary plenty of time to get the project back on track.
Per Deadline, the Street Fighter reboot has been dated for March 20, 2026. The news comes almost immediately after it was revealed that Danny and Michael Philippou, the filmmaking duo behind the acclaimed horror film Talk to Me, were no longer co-directing the movie. It was announced in April 2023 that Legendary had acquired the live-action film and TV rights to Street Fighter with plans for the Philippous to direct. Reportedly, the exit is due to the filmmakers looking to focus on their next A24 movie, Bring Her Back.

Apart from governing one of the biggest tournaments of all time, FIFA World Cup, FIFA has also set its foot in the e-sports world, governing FIFAe tournaments. The 2023 FIFAe World Cup was the last edition involving EA’s FIFA football video game series and since EA and FIFA are no longer associated, the 2024 FIFAe World Cup would be a Rocket League tournament, featuring players from different countries around the world.
Psyonix’s Rocket League, which is a competitive vehicular soccer video game, has been a popular game for many years now. Many competitive tournaments have been held over the years and the game is also popular among streamers, so it makes sense why FIFAe decided to host a Rocket League tournament.

Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou, who were attached to direct a live-action adaptation of Capcom's Street Fighter, will no longer helm the upcoming movie. The film losing its directors comes over a year after it was announced in April 2023.

Instead, they are choosing to focus on their A24 film, Bring Her Back. That film will reportedly star Sally Hawkins, Billy Barratt, Jonah Wren Phillips, Sally-Anne Upton, Stephen Phillips, and Sora Wong. The film is produced by Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton. Though it’s easy to get caught up in fruitless debates over genre classifications, genres are a fascinating part of any medium’s evolution. Yes, they sometimes oversimplify complex works for the purposes of classification. However, a deeper look at the origins of those genres often reveals fascinating facts about the evolution of art and entertainment.
That’s especially true of gaming. Many of us have been alive for most of the notable history of video games. Yet, it’s still remarkably easy to forget how some of the more unique and prevalent video game genres actually began.
Today, we’re going to take a look at the birth of some of those genres. Some were clearly created by the release of a revolutionary new title, while others can trace their origins to games that took an existing concept in a new direction. Some are world-famous, while others have been...

Reverse adaptations have historically not been successful in video games, but Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest - The Adventure of Dai could change that trend. Street Fighter movie-based games are infamous examples of reverse adaptations that failed to meet the standards of the original games. Infinity Strash has the potential to avoid previous issues by featuring familiar characters, combat styles, and iconic battles from the Dai manga and anime. However, the gameplay will ultimately determine if it succeeds or falls into the same pitfalls as other reverse adaptations.

The Amiga 500 Mini has been on the market for about a year. A price drop, that saw me able to pick one up for 75 euros finally sucked me in. Growing up, I was an Amiga kid, and a little A500-shaped plastic box is able to trigger some serious nostalgia for me. To me, the death of Commodore and Amiga was a corporate tragedy, up there with the cancelling of the TV series “Firefly”.
The A500 Mini is, for the money, a well-made piece of kit. Sadly the tiny buttons are just part of the case and cannot be pressed, but that is fine. It is scaled down and my early concerns about the quality of the gamepad were unfounded. The controller is also pleasingly shaped like the Amiga CD32 controller (more on the CD32 later) and a joystick is available to purchase separately (albeit I have not tested that...

At launch Street Fighter 6 features 18 unique characters, all of whom have an unlockable classic or alternative costume option. Although Street Fighter 6 introduces many new combatants, the latest game in the Street Fighter franchise also reenlists several veteran characters and series favorites - albeit with a revamped costume design. Once unlocked or purchased, the Street Fighter 6 classic outfit customization option allows players to return redesigned combatants to a more familiar appearance. Although the fresh takes on classic characters are, for the most part, excellent, some costume redesigns are not nearly as good as the alternative option - classic outfits.
To gain access to a character's classic apparel, players must progress a Street Fighter 6 Master's friendship level to 100 in the World Tour Mode. Alternatively, classic outfits can be purchased from the Goods Shop for 50 Fighter Coins per costume, or a total of 900 for every classic outfit in the game. Though these redesigns...

Lily’s playstyle is an amalgamation of the two, being an unorthodox grappler that has considerable speed.
While Lily has a faster approach than a traditional Street Fighter 6 grappler like Zangief, she still is going to be outpaced by true rush-down fighters. Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 are set to battle once they release in the upcoming months. The latest entries in the fighting game juggernauts Street Fighter and Tekken have launch dates in June and Fall 2023, respectively, creating a duel between 2D and 3D fighters. But with the Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 being so different in their gameplay and storytelling, players will likely be more suited for one more than the other.
Despite their 2D/3D difference, Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 do share one thing: legacies of innovation. The Street Fighter series laid the foundation upon which all other 2D fighters are built when Street Fighter 2 birthed the fighting genre in 1991; three years later, Tekken did the same for 3D fighters. Since then, both series have become highly competitive for both players and franchises. Street Fighter and Tekken continue to innovate with the fighting game genre by introducing new mechanics and...

1974: a great year for many filmmakers. This was the year Francis Ford Coppola released both “The Godfather: Part II” and “The Conversation”. Mel Brooks hit a prolific streak too with “Young Frankenstein” and “Blazing Saddles”. Over in West Germany, Rainer Werner Fassbinder continued his hot streak by directing Four feature films, including his most beloved work, “Ali: Fear Eats the Soul”. However, it was perhaps Shinichi ‘Sonny' Chiba who had the most iconic and significant year out of that roster, with a career-defining bumper year that contained an impressive amount of diversity for an actor nominally known as a martial arts star. Surrounding himself with the posse from his expert team ‘Japan Action Club' and with the backing of the Toei Company, Ltd., Chiba completed a full trilogy, a two-part crime caper saga, a spin-off to the aforementioned trilogy And a powerful anti-war drama all in one year.

2D fighters are my gaming bread and butter, having been weened on to them at an early age thanks to side-scrolling efforts such as Double Dragon and Streets of Rage and discovering the grand-daddy of 2D fighters, Street Fighter 2 at an arcade in Majorca back in the 90s. Since then I’ve played them all, from classics such as Final Fight and the King of Fighters series to more obscure fighters such as Spectral vs. Generation, Waku Waku 7 and Groove on Fight. Emilia Clarke has been heating up watercooler talk for five years now HBO’s monster hit adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series, Game of Thrones. Even as a veteran multiple re-reader of all of the books in the series that jumped on the lit before the turn of the century, I never thought that I’d see the day that “Khaleesi” would enter pop culture vernacular, a thought that died when I bought my 8 year old niece, who knows the series better than you, an “I’m not a Princess I’m a Khaleesi t-shirt). Move over Arthur C., Emilia is the Clarke of both speculative and reality affections.
