Christopher Atkins, Kristy McNichol, Ted Hamilton, Bill Kerr, Garry McDonald, and Chuck McKinney in The Pirate Movie (1982)

Goofs

The Pirate Movie

Edit

Continuity

When Mabel and Frederic strip to swim out to the pirates' ship, Frederic is seen taking his shirt completely off. But in the following shot, his shirt is still half-way on.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Medals on the Major General's uniform are from World War II, rather than the Victorian era. But this film is deliberately anachronistic in many areas.

Revealing mistakes

After Mabel and Frederic climb aboard the pirate ship, he is soaking wet but somehow she is dry.
When Frederic's scuba-helmet fills with water, he's clearly separated from the water by a thin pane of glass in the front. The helmet's side windows have no sloshing water and it's not dripping from his face as he raises his head to take a breath.
When the Pirate King has his sword at Frederic's throat at the end of the library fight, the safety button on the tip is visible.
During the song "Pumpin' and Blowin'" there is a shot from the waterline showing Mabel (Kristy McNichol) singing in a boat with an old fashioned aerator for Frederick (Chris Atkins). If you look past the boat in the background, modern day sail boats can be seen (yellow & blue sails).

Miscellaneous

When Frederic is swimming (sped up) to the beach after seeing the sisters for the first time, three modern motor boats can be seen in the water at the very top of the screen.

Crew or equipment visible

The trampoline Mabel uses to mount a horse from behind is clearly visible.

Character error

Mabel remarks rhetorically that they are living in the 1880s, but Frederic's birth certificate in an earlier scene pinpointed the setting as 1877.
