Greg Hildebrandt, the admired artist and illustrator who created movie posters for the original Star Wars and Clash of the Titans, drew Marvel characters and designed iconic 1970s calendars that celebrated the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has died. He was 85.
Hildebrandt died in Denville, New Jersey, his son, Greg Jr., told The Hollywood Reporter. For the past five months, he had been dealing with a serious side effect from a heart medication.
The artist, who frequently partnered with his late twin brother, Tim Hildebrandt, also illustrated covers for DC Comics and trading cards for an epic 1994 Marvel Masterpieces set; painted artwork for Dungeons & Dragons calendars; and designed covers for the 1981 Black Sabbath album Mob Rules and many LPs from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Without having access to film stills and publicity photos and given a very tight deadline by 20th Century Fox, the brothers painted the “Style B” poster for the U.

10-time Oscar nominee Laurence Olivier has the lowest winning percentage of any other actor who has even been nominated for multiple Academy Awards. Olivier was a renowned stage and film actor who starred in many classic movies, such as Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca (1949) and Richard Attenborough's A Bridge Too Far (1977). Laurence Olivier's greatest films also include Sleuth (1972) which stars Michael Caine, Wuthering Heights (1939) which garnered Olivier's first Oscar nomination, and Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus (1960).
Olivier was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar nine times, winning only for his leading role in 1948's Hamlet, which he also directed. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor on one occasion for 1976's Marathon Man, which starred Dustin Hoffman and Roy Scheider. Olivier won two Honorary Academy Awards, one in 1947 for his achievement as director, producer, and lead actor in 1947's Henry V, and one in 1979 for his full body and work...

The new Todd Phillips film is about a pair of Jokers and this week’s film quiz focuses on other movie duos.
They say it takes two to tango, but no one ever says it takes two to Tango And Cash. Why would they? Stupid thing to say. Anyway, October’s first big release Joker: Folie à Deux sees Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker joined by Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn for an all-singing, all-dancing sequel – just don’t call it a musical! And as Warner Bros also announced the animated Robin movie Dynamic Duo earlier this week, we’re quizzing for two.
As always, there are three rounds and 30 questions in total. Once you’ve completed today’s film quiz, you’ll find a link to a separate post with the correct answers at the bottom of this post. This is just for fun, but please let us know how...

The cast for Paramount's Naked Gun reboot continues to grow. Danny Huston, perhaps best known for his villainous role in Yellowstone, is the latest actor to board the highly-anticipated comedy film.
According to Deadline, Huston has signed on to star alongside Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, and Kevin Durand in the untitled Naked Gun reboot. At this time, Huston's role remains under wraps. So far, Paramount has only revealed who Neeson and Hauser will be playing, with Neeson stepping into the role of Detective Frank Drebin and Hauser cast as his partner Ed. However, it is understood that Durand who can be seen this summer as Proximus Caesar in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be taking on one of the movie's villain roles.

Louis Leterrier may be gearing up for Fast 11, but he still has other projects ready to go. The key one right now is sci-fi horror flick 11817, which is expected to begin filming this summer. As such, we have received some casting news, with Kingsley Ben-Adir and Greta Lee lined up for unspecified roles.
No other cast has been announced at this time for 11817 but kicking it off with the likes of Kingsley Ben-Adir and Greta Lee does add some serious talent to the project. Ben-Adir has really made his mark over the past few years, playing Malcolm X and Bob Marley to much praise. Lee, meanwhile, co-led Best Picture nominee Past Lives (and probably deserved an Oscar nod herself) and has Tron: Ares set up.
Louis Leterrier will be quite busy this year, saying that once he finishes up this “little horror movie” in mid-September, he will be jumping right into Fast 11 the next day,...

The Coachman in Pinocchio employs magic and turns children into donkeys, while Gaston in Beauty and the Beast rejects the idea of magic and relies on physical strength. The Coachman is portrayed as a more sinister and evil character than Gaston, with the Coachman abducting children and turning them into donkeys to work in his salt mine. Gaston presents a bigger threat to the heroes in Beauty and the Beast and leads a mob against the Beast, while Pinocchio could have easily avoided the Coachman with enough care.

Post-credit scenes have been used in films from various genres, not just superhero movies, to engage and interact with the audience. The first film to feature a post-credit scene was the spy comedy "The Silencers" in 1966, which parodied James Bond movies. Post-credit scenes can be creative and dynamic, serving to tease future entries, provide a final joke, or tell a follow-up story in a shorter format.
Post-credit scenes may have become synonymous with superhero movies, but plenty of other genres use the space after the credits in ingenious ways. Post-credit scenes have spiked in popularity since franchises like the MCU, Dceu and Sony Spider-Verse Universe started including one or two clips during the credits to build anticipation for future projects. However, superhero movies were not even close to being the first genre of film to use a post-credit scene to further interact and engage with the audience.

The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.
Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:
The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

Universal/DreamWorks’ The Last Voyage of the Demeter is heading from Jan. 27, 2023 to Aug. 11, 2023.

Pic also stars Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, Nikolai Nikolaeff and Javier Botet.

Black Narcissus and How to Build a Girl actress Gemma Arterton has spoken out about her time as a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace.
In a recent interview with the Sun, Arterton both defended and criticized her role as the 2008 Bond film’s Strawberry Fields. In Quantum of Solace, British Secret Service agent Strawberry Fields attempts to thwart James Bond(Daniel Craig) from accomplishing his mission, but loses guard to his suave personality and charm. Arterton’s character ultimately becomes the target of Bond’s enemies and dies smothered in crude oil.

Patty Jenkins may have cast doubt on her involvement with Wonder Woman 3 as recently as last week, but Warner Bros. clearly made her an offer that she couldn’t refuse when it was announced just two days after the second installment had been released into theaters and on HBO Max that Jenkins and star Gal Gadot would be back, and the next chapter in Diana Prince’s story was getting fast-tracked into active development.
Of course, the filmmaker is also locked in for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron which has a release date of December 2023, so Wonder Woman 3 is going to be four years away at the earliest. That’s good news for those who didn’t particularly enjoy 1984, though, because it gives the creative team lots of time to fine-tune the script, with the volume of plot holes in the sequel drawing plenty of criticism.

For the first time in a while, Netflix is adding no new titles today, so let’s instead take the opportunity to recap what’s gone up on the streaming site over the past week, from Saturday, August 1st to Saturday, August 8th. As that encompasses the first day of the month, there was a huge amount of fresh content added to Netflix’s library over this period. To be exact, there were 49 movies and 24 TV shows.
On the film side of things, this haul includes many an acclaimed or cult favorite flick from across the decades in all kinds of genres. The highlight is probably the entire Jurassic Park trilogy, which has proved popular with Netflix users as the first two entries have been hanging around the top 10 most-watched movies list almost ever since arriving. 80s classic fantasy flick The NeverEnding Story and its sequel were added on the 1st as well,...

Over the last few months, the streaming service has debuted a string of in-house projects that have either been subjected to widespread critical acclaim or racked up huge viewing numbers, and frequently both.
Netflix can sometimes be fairly secretive about their viewership data unless they’re shouting their success from the rooftops, and having recently revealed their Top 10 most-watched original movies ever, you can understand why they went public. If you include the reported 72 million streams for Charlize Theron’s The Old Guard that would see it claim sixth spot in the rankings, then four of the Top 10 were released between March and July of this year alone.

Confirming longtime speculation, Seattle has officially named its new NHL hockey team the Kraken.
The name, logo and uniforms were revealed Thursday, ahead of the team’s debut in the 2021-22 season.
The announcement cemented one of the most offbeat names for a team in all of professional sports. It is a reference to a creature that had a cameo in the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans and has far outlasted memories of the film itself. Clips of star Liam Neeson’s earnest baritone cry — “Release the kraken!” — lodged the phrase in the pop-culture vernacular even though the movie was hardly a smash, taking in $493.2 million at the global box office.
In Scandinavian mythology, the kraken is a gigantic, many-tentacled sea monster. Its maritime associations helped persuade team officials to take it as more than a gag as they sifted through some 1,200 potential names.

Legendary visual effects pioneer and stop-motion model animator Ray Harryhausen has died. The multi-award winner was a major influence on many of the biggest film makers of today with the likes of Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Peter Jackson, George Lucas and John Landis all citing his impact.
Over nearly five decades his work broke new ground and included such films as 1949's "Mighty Joe Young," 1955's "It Came from Beneath the Sea," 1958's "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad," 1963's "Jason and the Argonauts," 1966's "One Million Years BC," and 1981's "Clash of the Titans".

The first glimpse of “Terminator Salvation” and “Avatar” star Sam Worthington as Perseus in Louis Leterrier’s remake of “Clash of the Titans” has now reached the Internet for all the world to see. The movie, which began shooting about a month ago in Europe, will re-craft director Desmond Davis’s 1981 classic starring Laurence Olivier. Leterrier’s remake is no slouch on the casting front either; joining Worthington are Liam Neeson as Zeus and Ralph Fiennes as Hades.
The new Worthington shot, which shows off Perseus in his battle gear, comes out of this month’s Empire according to /Film. There is also a foreboding hand in the foreground, perhaps that of Medusa, one of the iconic villains of Greek mythology that the hero fights in his quest to save his family and keep Hades from dethroning Zeus.

Warner Brothers is backing a remake of Ray Harryhausen's Clash of the Titans and has attracted some first rate talent to the project. Liam Neeson (in his first role since the tragic death of his wife Natasha Richardson) will star as Zeus and Ralph Fiennes will play his enemy, Hades. Two alumni of recent James Bond films will also be in the cast: Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) and Gemma Arterton (Quantum Of Solace). For more, click here...

Ralph Fiennes is in talks to reunite with "Schindler's List" co-star Liam Neeson in a new Warner Bros. film "Clash of the Titans."
Neeson is set to play Zeus in the re-imagining of Perseus' Greek myth. If Fiennes' negotiation would fall through, he would play Hades, the ruler of the underworld who wants to overtake Zeus.
Hades did not appear in the original 1981 film. Laurence Olivier played Zeus, while Harry Hamlin played his son, Perseus.
Other previously mentioned casts include Gemma Arterton (Io), Mads Mikkelsen (Draco), Alexa Davalos (Andromeda) and Sam Worthington (Perseus).

Way back last year (to the very day!) my first ever Screen Rant post was about the in-development Clash of the Titans movie. At the time nobody was yet cast in the film, but we knew that Lawrence Kasdan had penned the script. We know that Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier will helm the film, but until now we didn’t know who would be slipping into Harry Hamilin’s sandals to play Perseus in the Ray Harryhausen remake.
That changed today when news broke that the star of Terminator Salvation would be starring in the $100 million budgeted film.
Sam Worthington will be playing the lead role in the R-rated Clash of the Titans - which is due to start shooting in late winter or early spring.
According to Variety:
“The film will be made for under $100 million because the visual effects will be accomplished using the greenscreen techniques that made 300 so visually arresting.

New York -- The race for "War of the Gods" and "Clash of the Titans," two rival projects set up at Relativity and Warners, is quickening.
Both are close to casting their leads, with "Stardust" topliner Henry Cavill set to star in "Gods" and "Terminator Salvation" star Sam Worthington in negotiations to climb aboard "Titans," which Thunder Road is producing and Legendary Pictures is co-producing."
In addition, the projects have set start dates. "Gods" would seem to have the edge -- it's tentatively planned for a February shoot, while production on "Titans" is slated to begin in April.
Both are sub-$100 million projects, though the budget for "Gods," at approximately $85 million, is believed to be higher than "Titans," which is closer to the $70 million range.
The studios have been in a fierce battle to get their product to market first, in a battle echoing the scramble between competing studio projects "Troy" and "Alexander" in 2004.
