Smells Like Entrepreneurial Spirit!: Courvoisier Climbs Up the Totone Poll
In her directorial debut, Louise Courvoisier delves into themes of altruism and resilience, navigating a narrative that straddles the line between a troubled past and an uncertain future. It’s got two muddied boots on both sides. Despite a future in doubt, the film pulsates with the vibrant energy of its protagonist, emblematic of an unwavering fighting spirit. Following in the footsteps of kid protagonists thrust into adult responsibilities, Vingt Dieux Courvoisier adopts a tone and vibrant cinematic style reminiscent of Andrea Arnold or Ken Loach (think Sweet Sixteen).…...

The cast of Parks and Recreation seemed to be having a pretty great time while making the show. At least that’s the sense that we get after spending countless hours watching blooper reels on YouTube.
But Rashida Jones, who played Ann Perkins on the show, just revealed that Parks and Rec’s producers once asked her to perform a scene that made her deeply uncomfortable. And it involved her love of ‘90s R&b.
The episode “Sweet Sixteen” finds the Parks Department visiting Donna’s lake house, at which point Tom learns that her cousin is, in fact, Grammy nominee Ginuwine. While Tom is floored by the revelation, Ann has absolutely no idea who that is. And, unfortunately, “not loving ‘90s R&b” is number three on Tom’s “Oh no no” list, which comes very close to ending their brief, ill-considered relationship.
During a recent episode of Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Hang,...

Bosch is an American crime drama series based on the Harry Bosch book series by author Michael Connelly. Bosch follows the titular detective as he investigates crimes, faces unjust accusations and different conflicts at work, and struggles to keep his personal life under control. What sets Bosch apart from other TV crime dramas is the gritty and dark atmosphere of the series, the focus on morally gray characters and corruption within the force, as well as the complex cases that constantly introduce unexpected twists. These are only some of the main reasons why fans of Bosch would also enjoy the British crime drama series Line of Duty.
Much like Bosch, Line of Duty is a TV crime drama that introduces complex characters who walk the delicate line between good and bad. But for every similarity between Bosch and Line of Duty, there are just as many differences that make each show unique on its own.

Amazon's streaming service Prime Video boasts a large selection of movies and TV shows in its library available to subscribers, but much of that content is temporary, with a number of titles leaving each month. With the large backing from Amazon, Prime Video has emerged as one of the biggest streaming services around, offering a giant catalog of previously released movies and shows while also developing acclaimed original content. However, Prime Video's offerings disappear on a monthly basis on purpose, planned through contracts with film and television distributors.

Reputation is the kind of movie that reminds audiences that we Brits know better than anyone how to craft and tell a story that’s honest, raw, real and above all else relatable. More often than not we look to the Ken Loachs and Shane Meadows of the world for that slice of grim reality and for me those guys were at their best when starting out, which has always prompted me to keep an eye on emerging directors from my homeland and keep an open mind when going in.
Now, in Martin Law, I have a new name to add to my list of: “I’m keeping an eye on this guy”. After having the chance to check out his debut feature Reputation.

Throughout the nearly decade-long run of Little House on the Prairie, there weren't many longstanding romances between the infamous Laura Ingalls (played on the series by Melissa Gilbert) and the handful of boys that crossed her sights. No matter how many guys Laura was interested in, audiences who knew the true story of the character were just waiting for Almanzo Wilder to show up. When he finally did (played by Dean Butler), we were forced to wait just a bit longer before these two officially became an item, which happened at the tail end of the Season 6 episode "Sweet Sixteen." But there was more to that famously intimate kiss than meets the eye, and many longtime fans are just finding out about it nearly 50 years later.

Seven of the iconic queens from Season 16 of MTV’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race” reunited on Monday, June 10 at an Emmy FYC event held at the Culver City Julian Dixon Library. Dawn, Mhi’Ya Iman Le’Paige, Morphine Love Dion, Q, Plane Jane, Sapphira Cristál and winner Nymphia Wind delivered a live performance of the inspirational song “Power” and then sat for a Q&a alongside executive producer Tom Campbell, senior producer/judge Michelle Visage and choreographer Jamal Sims, moderated by Variety’s Marc Malkin.
The funk-rock anthem “Power” debuted in the 10th episode, “Werq the World,” which aired March 8, 2024. Many viewers considered that group performance to be a highlight of this Sweet Sixteen season, with its important message during an election year being that we all collectively “have the power.”

It's Friday the 13th for the liars in their pretty little universe, and things are already looking unlucky for the girls in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Season 1 Episode 5.
Summer is officially underway, and the girls are now up against many threats, with Bloody Rose picking her way through the group with her tests.
It's safe to say that Pretty Little Liars: Summer School sets very different stakes for the girls after the previous season's events, and things may be more complicated than they seem.
Right off the bat, this Spooky Spaghetti trend seems to be getting out of hand, with forum visitors partaking in some truly messed-up viral challenges.
If you're reading this review, you likely already know what that challenge was, but it bears repeating. Slicing into the middle of the forehead. That has to be illegal in multiple ways.

And then there was one…
On Wednesday’s episode of The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon announced Tracy Sierra’s Nightwatching as the official read of the 2024 Jimmy Fallon Book Club.
In late March, The Tonight Show rolled out its own “Sweet Sixteen” of novels and asked viewers to choose which titles would make it to the next round. In the end it came down to two titles: Sierra’s debut novel, a terrifying home invasion thriller, and Kristen Perrin’s How to Solve Your Own Murder, a cozy mystery about a teenager who is told by a fortune teller she is going to be murdered—and who then spends the next several decades attempting to prevent the crime from happening in the first place.
Over the course of two weeks, approximately 1 million people voted and picked Sierra’s book as the one to devour—though it was a razor-thin race.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” is growing up before our eyes — her Sweet Sixteen season is scheduled to debut on January 5, 2024 on MTV. This time around, the ages of the 14 drag queens range from 24 to 34. They come from every corner of the U.S. — from New York to Florida to California — with one being born in Mexico and another hailing from Taiwan. Note that the winning contestant who survives all of the “sashay aways” will take home an eyebrow-plucking $200,000 grand prize.
Host RuPaul Charles is once again joined on the judges’ panel by Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews and Ts Madison. In a new twist, this cycle will allow the participants to rank each other’s challenge performances in a “Rate-a-Queen” segment, and that will determine how they’ll all be sorted into the tops and the bottoms of the week.
Companion series “Untucked” will once again air after “Drag Race” every Friday night on MTV.

Berlin-based producer/distributor Dcm has taken a sake in Wim Wenders’ production company Road Movies, creating an “equal, strong partnership” between the two firms, Wenders and Dcm said Friday.
Dcm, which has released several of Wenders’ films in Germany, including the Oscar-nominated Perfect Days, will buy into Road Movies in the first quarter of this year. Dcm partners Dario Suter, Christoph Daniel, Marc Schmidheiny and Joel Brandeis described the move as a strategic expansion of the company’s film production business. It’s 2010, and Gemma Arterton is describing to Empire Magazine having spent an entire day shooting kidnap thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed in tears. “Your body’s not supposed to cry that much. It is exhausting.” Martin Compston, her co-star in the crying scene, agrees in earnest and the interviewer jokes off-camera, “So what you’re saying is: feel-good hit of the summer?”
Compston laughs, “Yeah, Disney Channel!” and Arterton repeats the gag, shaking her head at its ridiculousness “Disney Channel!”
13 years, a brand shift and a streaming revolution later, and Disney is now the UK home of The Disappearance of Alice Creed. Disney+ is also the UK home of writer-director J Blakeson’s latest collaboration with Arterton: TV thriller Culprits, which is out on Hulu in the US.
That eight-part series is the story of consequences catching up with the diverse crew who pulled off a mega-money heist years earlier.

Scream gets mashed up with Back to the Future in Totally Killer. The horror-science-fiction-comedy begins in the present day, 35 years after the Sweet Sixteen Killer slaughtered three teenage girls. One survivor of that attack, Pam, is now grown up with a rebellious teenage daughter of her own, Jamie. But when the masked psychopath resurfaces to target Pam and Jamie, Jamie accidentally triggers a time machine that whisks her back to 1987. Now stuck in the past, she must enroll in high school, befriend the potential victims -- including a young Mean Girls version of her mother -- uncover the identity of the Sweet Sixteen Killer, and prevent his rampage.

Warning: Major Spoilers for Totally Killer Ahead
Totally Killer is the newest comedic slasher flick from Prime Video, and it doesn’t disappoint. While in the past, she seeks to find out who the killer is and stop him, ultimately hoping to prevent her mother’s death in the future. She quickly encounters the teenage version of her mother, Pam (Olivia Holt), as well as the three friends, Tiffany (Liana Liberato), Heather (Anna Diaz), and Marisa (Stephi Chin-Salvo), who were/will be murdered as Halloween night approaches.
Upon showing up in the past, Jamie seeks the help of her best friend Amelia’s (Kelcey Mawema) mom, Lauren Creston (Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson), since it was Amelia who was working on the time...

Totally Killer homages the slasher horror subgenre with a masked murderer and a temporal twist. Totally Killer depicts two different killers with different motivations that parody slashers from other films. Totally Killer's predictable storyline and characters make it pretty obvious who the killers are.
The following contains major spoilers for Totally Killer, now streaming on Prime Video.
Prime Video's Totally Killer pays homage to the slasher horror subgenre and other iconic films. It feels like a crimson take on Back to the Future, with a murderer rocking a whimsical mask while murdering people in two different timelines. In this case, Jamie (Kiernan Shipka from Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) has to figure out who killed her mother, Pam, in the present by unmasking the villain in 1987 on Halloween night.

What if a killer time traveled with you to thwart your plan of saving your mother whom he had already killed? Yes, that’s exactly what happens in the movie, but it’s not so simple as there is a twist to it. Totally Killer, the new film, has horror, comedy, and action, and if you weren’t satisfied, it has a whole time travel plot that will remind you of the great films on this topic. With a mix of the plots of Terminator and Back to the Future, director Nahnatchka Khan creates her own style of slasher, innovatively recreating the eighties mood. In essence, Totally Killer is a slasher, and hence makes use of the fact that slashers usually surprise us with the second killer.

A time traveler moves a chair, and the whole timeline is altered. You must have seen this meme online. The new film Totally Killer makes the right choice to not overcomplicate things. Sure, when Jamie Hughes accidentally goes back to 1987, and tries to alter things, a few significant things do get changed, but they are not overwhelmingly altered. Also, her main focus was not to change the romance between her parents when they were in high school, but to stop a serial killer who began his hunt in 1987. See, it’s all a bit complicated, but it could have been disastrous if it hadn’t been handled with care by director Nahnatchka Khan. The idea is great on paper, and with a clear vision for Totally Killer, Khan manages to merge the sci-fi and slasher genres together to come up with great characters.

There's a killer on the loose, and they're totally rocking the '80s. Like, seriously!
Amazon Prime Video's newest slasher, Totally Killer, is a sci-fi horror-comedy that takes what we love of the '80s and mixes it with a time travel twist. Think of it like a mix of Happy Death Day and Scream but in a B-movie VHS tape.
Compared to those two slashers having a solid point of view, Totally Killer was just another slasher on the block. It was a bloody, fun ride, albeit a messy one with its B-horror movie characters and inconsistent plot.
Totally Killer captures the exaggerated tone of the '80s, especially in campy horror flicks. Plenty of big hair, big colors, and bigger personalities make up the world.
But what helps the movie stand out is the self-aware nature of Jamie Hughes (played by Kiernan Shipka of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina...

It’s the spooky season, and teen thriller Totally Killer looks to satisfy that itch for scares. But what appears to be a horror film spoof at first, suddenly morphs into a mash-up of Halloween and Back To The Future, when a sixteen-year-old girl goes back in time to the 1980s to solve a Halloween triple killing by the “Sweet Sixteen Killer.”
A Halloween – Back To The Future mash-up isn’t a bad idea but that idea gets bogged down in 1980s nostalgia that sucks the energy out of the horror scares, and even the humor, like a vampire. Do you long for the ’80s? Even if you don’t remember them? Well, someone wanted to revisit that era of big hair, big shoulders, garish fashions and John Hughes films, so we get Totally Killer.

The easiest way to describe Totally Killer is by listing all the other movies it calls to mind. Plot-wise, it’s a Back to the Future-style time travel adventure crossed with a Halloween-inspired slasher, all cast in a Scream-lite sense of self-awareness; tonally, its mashup of comedy and horror lands in the same general area as The Final Girls or the Happy Death Day movies.
If it its ingredients feel familiar, however, the script (by David Matalon, Sasha Perl-Raver and Jen D’Angelo) injects them with just enough heart and humor to keep them from feeling stale. Totally Killer may not be destined to become a classic in its own right. But the Amazon release is fun enough for a spooky season night in.
Its unwitting Marty McFly is Jamie (Kiernan Shipka), a stereotypically rebellious teenager whose stereotypically overprotective parents (Julie Bowen and Lochlyn Munro) have more reason than most to be paranoid: 35 years ago,...

We just can’t get over the 80s. And with killer music, killer movies, and killer… killers – why would we? Totally Killer, directed by Nahnatchka Khan, catapults us right back into that beloved decade. It’s a time-traveling adventure that takes us on a wild ride from the present day back to the neon-soaked, cassette-playing era of the 1980s. In The Old Oak, an English man and a Syrian woman become unlikely friends on one side of a simmering culture war. It’s the latest from Ken Loach and, if reports are true, it will be the 86-year-old director’s last. The Old Oak is, of course, a timely story about modern Britain, immigration, and xenophobia. It’s also a parting statement from Loach––one last rallying cry for solidarity––and a fitting coda to his six-decade long career.
It’s hard to imagine that Loach first made his name in 1964: viewers who watched Cathy Come Home on the BBC that week could have seen “Good Vibrations” go to number 1 on Top of The Pops. Seen by a quarter of the population, it in fact did change British attitudes towards homelessness. Occasionally to the point of self-parody, Loach has never stopped making that kind of film: stories purpose-built...

The 1970 edition of the Cannes Film Festival was noted for giving rise to several bold new voices. Robert Altman arrived as an established (and notoriously troublesome) TV director but left a Palme d’Or winner with M*A*S*H, his launchpad to becoming one of the most pivotal figures of contemporary cinema. In the Directors’ Fortnight competition, then a year old, the German absurdist comedy Even Dwarfs Started Small gave audiences a hint of what a 20-something festival first-timer named Werner Herzog might have up his creative sleeve.
Over in the Critics’ Week sidebar, a rising English director named Ken Loach also was making his Cannes debut (like Herzog with his second feature).
The bespectacled 33-year-old had arrived as part of what he describes as a “rather snooty” U.K. delegation that didn’t have much time for someone then known for hard-hitting TV docudramas and not considered part...
