Firestar's character was created for the show. Originally, Spider-man's teammates were going to be Iceman and The Human Torch. The Human Torch appears to be made of fire and there was concern this might encourage kids to play with matches so the character Firestar was created to replace him. Later, Firestar became a full fledge Marvel character and appeared in the comics.
