Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song
Directed by Mario Van Peebles
Written by Mario Van Peebles
1971, USA
Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song is not wholly Blaxploitation. It’s a revolution. It’s a work of art. It’s a portrait on a reluctantly changing America. It’s a captivating piece on culture and society that harms itself as much as it attempts to blossom.
Melvin Van Peebles wrote, directed, starred, produced, edited, and co-scored this surreal political tale of Sweetback, a gigolo on the run after attacking two abusive white cops. A fever-dream of an odyssey, Sweetback’s voyage from the city to the desert is a portrait of black civil rights as well as the struggle through out the history of black America. Gospel hymns and funk reverberate through the film as Sweetback regresses...

There's a new Charles Manson film that is inching towards development. The script for the film, titled The Family, was written by Scott Kosar (The Machinist).
It looks like the film has found it's Manson in actor Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), who recently told the press that he is going to star in the film, and Styd say's that this bit of news "appears to be true", and it was also revealed that the film is going to be directed by its screenwriter, Scott Kosar, and here's what he had to say about it.
I will be making my directorial debut from a script I wrote. The movie won't focus on the Manson murders. Nor is it a Manson biopic. It's a family biopic. A movie about a surrogate family of wayward teenagers who, through extraordinary circumstances, came together and were transformed into the most notorious American family of the 20th century.

Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) has signed on to play Charles Manson in The Family, the directorial debut of writer Scott Kosar (The Crazies). Kosar says the film is much more about the forming of The Manson Family than the murders they’re famous for:
“The movie won’t focus on the Manson murders. Nor is it a Manson biopic. It’s a family biopic. A movie about a surrogate family of wayward teenagers who, through extraordinary circumstances, came together and were transformed into the most notorious American family of the 20th century. Hence the title.”
After the break, you’ll find further elaboration from Kosar on his approach to depicting the “unconventional” family in question.
Kosar explained to Shock Till You Drop:
“A very unconventional unit, but a family nonetheless. It is not a horror film, though the subject is inherently horrific. The goal is to do, finally, after forty years,...
