It's been thirty years since Star Trek: Voyager debuted on Upn. A unique version of Star Trek, this bridge was led by a female captain whose authority was unquestionable. Captain Kathryn Janeway [Kate Mulgrew] owned that bridge, and the crew that helped Voyager make its way across the Delta Quadrant were some of the best on a Star Trek show.

Unfortunately, Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation didn't give the female officers much to do. Voyager corrected that, makihng, the women integral to the ship's journey, more so when Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine came aboard. Witness brothers Moses and Ramses facing off once again when director Ridley Scott’s historical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) begins streaming absolutely free Dec. 1 on Tubi. Christian Bale and a bald Joel Edgerton lead the Biblical epic, which failed to find its footing with either the critics or fans when the movie parted the Red Sea in theaters 10 years ago. This undervalued historical flick also represents one of Scott’s lower-rated ventures on Rotten Tomatoes.

At the time of this writing, Exodus: Gods and Kings registers a mere 30% on the Tomatometer against 207 reviews posted to Rotten Tomatoes. Likewise, fans didn’t find much to praise either, because the Popcornmeter, formerly the Rt audience score, sits at a disappointing 35% on the strength of 50,000+ ratings. However, with a stronger “B-” CinemaScore, Gods and Kings managed to almost double its budget. It cost $140 million to produce Scott’s 2014 film, not accounting for its advertising and marketing campaign,...

“Gladiator II” (Paramount) is expected to gross over $60 million when it open this week in the U.S./Canada. If so, that will be a strong start for Ridley Scott’s 29th feature in his 45-year career.

With a budget reported to be somewhere around $250 million-$300 million, it will need all of that and more. While this may be his fourth film to cost over over $200 million (adjusting to current dollar value), “Gladiator II” appears to be the highest spend of Scott’s career.

It’s also the record expense for a director over 80. Paramount’s decision to entrust Scott clearly speaks to his past performances, particularly internationally.

We surveyed all 28 previous Scott features, calculating their grosses and budgets at 2024 values. And while a $60 million “Gladiator II” opening would be a record on paper, that only works if you don’t adjust his track record to current dollars and ticket prices.

Benji Gregory, the actor best known for playing Alf‘s Brian Tanner, died on June 13 at the age of 46. Now, an Arizona medical examiner has released his cause of death.

Gregory, who was found dead in his parked car at a Chase Bank in Peoria, Ariz., reportedly died from “heat exposure in the setting of hepatic cirrhosis,” TMZ reports. Essentially this means it was a combination of prolonged exposure to the Arizona sun as well as extensive scarring of the liver.

Benji Gregory, who starred as young Brian Tanner in the 1980s sitcom Alf, has passed away. He was 46.

The actor was found dead on June 13 in his car parked at a Chase Bank in Peoria, Ariz., according to TMZ. It is believed that he visited the bank the previous day and fell sleep, possibly dying from vehicular heatstroke caused by Arizona’s blistering summer heat. Gregory’s service dog Hans, who was with him, also perished.

Lady Gaga is returning to Las Vegas for more shows as part of her Jazz & Piano residency at Park MGM’s Dolby Live!

The Grammy and Oscar-winning entertainer just announced that she has eight more shows coming this summer and tickets are going on sale very soon.

In the Jazz & Piano show, Gaga covers songs from the American songbook like “New York, New York,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” and “Luck Be a Lady.” She also does jazz renditions of her famous songs like “Born This Way” and “Poker Face.”

Gaga debuted the Jazz & Piano show in January 2019 and she was performing the concert in rotation with her Enigma pop show. While she has continued performing Jazz & Piano over the years, Enigma hasn’t been performed since December 2019.

The 2024 shows will be performed on June 19, June 20, June 27, June 29, June 30, July 3, July 5, and July 6.

Lady Gaga is heading back to Las Vegas for another of her extremely popular “Jazz & Piano” residencies at the Park MGM Dolby Live.

The eight-show residency will run from June 19 through July 6. Tickets go on sale to the general public this Saturday.

Billed as featuring Gaga’s performances of music from the Great American Songbook, as well as stripped-down versions of her own hits, this summer’s residency also will include performances of tracks from Love for Sale, her recent jazz album of Cole Porter tunes.

Reports of the residency had recently surfaced among Vegas news outlets, but Gaga herself confirmed, and revealed specific dates, in an Instagram Story post this morning.

Gaga’s first Jazz & Piano residency was in 2019, with a set list that included Great American Songbook selections such as “Luck Be A Lady” and “Someone To Watch Over Me,” alongside the star’s hits such as “Poker Face.

Lionsgate has acquired the rights to “Fascinating Rhythm,” the next film from “Once” director John Carney that is a musical inspired by the life of George Gershwin.

Martin Scorsese and Irwin Winkler are set to produce the film, which Carney is directing and co-writing with Chris Cluess.

“Fascinating Rhythm” is not a biopic but is described as a young woman’s magical journey through the past and present of New York City, as inspired by Gershwin.

Exclusive: Lionsgate prevailed in an auction for worldwide rights to make Fascinating Rhythm, the John Carney-directed musical drama based inspired by the life of American composer George Gershwin. 1.  "Wonderwall"/"Bad Romance"/"Let It Go" - Ted Lasso

Just when you thought Afc Richmond football couldn't score any higher in the adorable and endearing categories, they went to a karaoke bar on Ted Lasso Season 1 Episode 7. 

Sam's rendition of "Wonderwall" was heartfelt. Coach Beard's performance of "Bad Romance" would make Lady Gaga proud. Then Rebecca brought down the house with "Let It Go."

The only thing more entertaining than the singers were the reactions of the usually gruff Roy Kent and a shirtless Dani Rojas. 

2.  "I Want to be Evil"/"Someone to Watch Over Me - Lucifer

Compared to Lucifer Season 4, the first half of Lucifer Season 5 didn't feature the cast showing off their vocals as often.

In “Feast of the Epiphany,” a narrative-documentary hybrid, the line between fiction and reality is demarcated quite clearly, even as those two modes remain in constant dialogue — and the conceit is entrancing precisely because of its elusiveness. Beginning as the overtly make-believe story of a dinner party before segueing into surprising verité terrain, this unique feature from directors Michael Koresky, Jeff Reichert and Farihah Zaman is too unconventional to court more than an art-house audience. Still, those interested in experimental works that incite contemplation and debate will find much to chew on throughout the course of this concise, canny effort, which recently premiered at BAMcinemaFest.

Late last week, I got a chance to see Ridley Scott’s latest film, the franchise outing Alien: Covenant. A sequel to Prometheus and prequel to Alien, it is still a few weeks out, but 20th Century Fox is clearly feeling bullish about it. The cinema of Steven Spielberg is one that’s built around fascination and a need to understand. As a director he is an explorer, but not one interested in unearthing grand artifacts, rather one in search of intimate treasures, an explorer of explorers, so to speak, someone to whom the process of discovery is much more interesting than the discoveries themselves.

As such, his films are rife with surveillance, characters spying on or otherwise surreptitiously watching other characters, tracking their behavior, their actions, their being, for the purposes of gathering information, good and bad. Think of the Nazis on the trail of Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark peering over newspapers, or the future crime detectives in Minority Report scanning time for illegalities, or the government scientists after E.T. creeping about suburbia.

Happy Birthday, Ira Gershwin A lyricist, Gershwin collaborated with his younger brother, composer George Gershwin, to create some of the most memorable songs of the 20th century. With George he wrote more than a dozen Broadway shows, featuring songs such as 'I Got Rhythm', 'Embraceable You', 'The Man I Love' and 'Someone to Watch Over Me'. He was also responsible, along with DuBose Heyward, for the libretto to George's opera Porgy and Bess. The success the brothers had with their collaborative works has often overshadowed the creative role that Ira played. However, his mastery of songwriting continued after the early death of George.
