Montreal fest to fete Deville in debut year
BANFF, Alberta -- The upstart New Montreal FilmFest on Wednesday said it would honor veteran French director Michel Deville with an Iris Achievement Award as part of a Focus on French Cinema sidebar. The news is among the first the New Montreal FilmFest has released about its programming direction as it readies for its inaugural run Sept. 18-25 under former Venice and Berlin festival boss Moriz de Hadeln as chief programr. Deville, who began filmmaking in the early 1950s as part of the French New Wave, has made more than 30 feature films, including Dossier 51 and La Lectrice.
