April showers… don’t matter if you’re sat inside watching TV. The Disney Bundle™ ensures that this is possible in perpetuity, with the entire libraries of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN available in whichever permutation serves your lifestyle.
This spring, Disney+ continues the rollout of “Daredevil: Born Again” and soon welcomes the return of “Andor” Season 2 (and achieving the rare astrological phase in which both Marvel and Star Wars are active on the streamer). Plenty of shows and movies will also join the Hulu library; the Emmy-winning original series “The Handmaid’s Tale” returns after a three-year hiatus with its sixth and final season, and FX will premiere the limited series “Dying for Sex” starring Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate (based on the podcast from Molly Kochan and Nikki Boyer).
Top Pick: “Andor” Season 2

Hollywood has seen its fair share of demanding directors, Kubrick made actors do a scene 127 times, Tarantino nearly set Uma Thurman on fire, and Hitchcock? Well, let’s just say he had peculiar directing methods. But none come close to James Cameron, a man so dedicated to his craft that he practically asks his cast to breathe underwater.
From Titanic to Avatar, Cameron has cemented himself as the king of the deep, the blue, and the technologically mind-boggling. He’s not here to make his actors comfortable, he’s here to make a masterpiece. If that means actors are cold, wet, and on the verge of hypothermia, so be it!

At the 2013 Academy Awards, visual effects supervisor Bill Westenhofer, accepting the award for Rhythm & Hues’ work on Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi,” approached the microphone. “Sadly, Rhythm & Hues is suffering serious financial difficulties now,” he said. “I urge you all to remember …”
Then they started playing John Williams’ ominous theme from “Jaws.” The camera cut to Nicole Kidman, who was seen mouthing the words “poor thing.” Had Westenhofer been able to finish his speech, it would have highlighted the deep schism between the visual effects and animation that audiences love and the financial realities for those who create them. Eleven days before the Oscar win, Rhythm & Hues had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
But what happened to Rhythm & Hues wasn’t a one-off; it was a warning shot. Twelve years later, two VFX and animation houses have shut their doors in a matter of weeks: Technicolor, whose studios like...

Ed Harris has had a long and storied career as an actor, earning high praise for his roles in Westworld, Snowpiercer, The Abyss, and The Truman Show. But he's also an accomplished director, having helmed and starred in the incredible Pollock (2000) about famed painter, Jackson Pollack, and Appaloosa (2008). Harris has been trying to get his next film off the ground, and recently spoke with Collider about its multi-year delay.
While promoting My Dead Friend Zoe, Harris explained the difficulties of getting his next movie, The Ploughman, made. He spoke about how tough it is to find money for an indie film, explaining:
"I haven't been able to get the financing together. It's an indie film that probably costs more than it should, and I’ve been trying to slash the budget down, but I don't want to make it on a shoestring because it deserves certain production values, so I don't know.

Humans are obsessed with space and the unimaginable horrors that potentially lie in the vastness of the void, but we don’t give an equal amount of attention to the depths of the water bodies that surround us. I think that there are two contradictory reasons for that. On the one hand, since it’s right in our backyard, it doesn’t feel as mysterious or unreachable. On the other hand, it’s actually daunting that something as scary as the oceans and seas is sitting around us with the ability to engulf us in a matter of seconds. This mixture of skepticism and lack of appreciation is sort of reflected in the ocean’s cinematic depiction as well, along with the fact that shooting on water, real or fake, is really hard. The first 3 Pirates of the Caribbean films are fantastic, and the last 2 entries are absolutely atrocious. Aquaman is excellent,...

James Cameron’s The Abyss is legally available to watch again in the UK on a streaming service – and it appears to be the new remaster.
Update:
Now this is interesting. The Itvx website lists the running time of the film on its service as 2 hours and 20 minutes, as you can see here…
But! Press play, and look at the running time now…
Is this something akin to the Channel 4 incident all over again? Where in the 1990s, Channel Four accidentally showed the wrong version?
Our original story from earlier today is here…
Ah-ha. This is interesting. It’s been a year or two since Disney withdrew its plans to re-release James Cameron’s The Abyss in the UK, following the BBFC’s refusal to give the film a certificate with an infamous scene – the drowning rat – in place. Long story short (and the longer version is in the...

In contrast to Taylor Swift’s diaristic approach to pop songcraft, Abel Tesfaye has kept himself, via his persona as the Weeknd, at arm’s length in an era where musicians insist on frankness, and so much music is tied up in meta-narratives. But with his sixth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, it seems as if Tesfaye has grown tired of the mask. The final installment in a trilogy, following 2020’s After Hours and 2022’s Dawn FM, the album attempts to send off pop’s most enigmatic figure in ambitiously cinematic fashion.
With production largely helmed by longtime collaborators Mike Dean and Oneohtrix Point Never, Hurry Up Tomorrow takes the electro-pop of the Weeknd’s last two albums and drenches it in an atmosphere of existential dread on gothic slow burners like “Big Sleep,” featuring Giorgio Moroder, and “The Abyss,” featuring Lana Del Rey. Yet, even as Tesfaye leans into a sense of finality,...

Lana Del Rey is not a credited artist on The Weeknd‘s new album Hurry Up Tomorrow, but she provides guest vocals on his song “The Abyss.”
You can hear Lana singing “hey-hey, oh-oh” in the segue between the chorus and the second verse. She then sings with Abel on the song’s outro.
The Weeknd sings on the track, “Let me close my eyes with dignity / Let’s end it all, the world’s not far behind / So what’s the point of staying? / It’s going up in flames, I know / Yes, I know, ooh.”
Hurry Up Tomorrow is the final and most personal chapter of The Weeknd‘s trilogy series that began with 2020′s After Hours and 2022′s Dawn FM.

Actor Michael Biehn has a podcast called Just Foolin About with Michael Biehn, which can be found on YouTube. Biehn’s latest guest was Veronica Cartwright, who ran into the alien xenomorph in the 1979 film Alien, seven years before Biehn had his own close encounter with the nasty creatures in Aliens. The full, 95 minute episode can be viewed at This Link – but to promote the episode, Biehn has dropped a 13 minute clip that shows Cartwright talking about the experience of working on Alien, including her reaction to the famous chestburster scene. You can check it out in the embed above.
Here’s the clip’s official description: Veronica Cartwright tells Michael Biehn about her time working on and filming Alien. She goes on to shed some light on whether or not the cast was truly unaware of what was about to happen in the iconic chestburster scene, and how genuine her reaction was.

David Fincher has revealed that he utilized artificial intelligence to refine a pivotal scene in the Se7en 4K remaster. The 1995 psychological thriller starred Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey, with the former two playing homicide detectives on the hunt for a barbarous serial killer, played by the latter. The Se7en 4K remaster was released to celebrate the film's 30th anniversary and ensure its technical quality matches today's standards.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly for the re-release, Fincher focused on the film's visual issues, specifically in the climactic car scene where John Doe (Spacey) interacts with the detectives. Some shots of Spacey’s character in the backseat were previously out of focus due to the constraints of the original shoot. By leveraging AI tools, Fincher improved these shots, creating mattes to enhance Spacey’s performance while making sure to preserve the scene’s gritty tension. Check out...

The trailer for Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later has absolutely blown up since it was released a few weeks ago. It’s quickly become the most anticipated movie of 2025 for many horror fans, with a sequel also set for a January 2026 release. However, until recently, Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later has been unavailable for streaming and has been out of print on Blu-ray due to rights issues. Why? It’s because Sony, who is distributing the sequels, acquired the rights to the original film, which was first distributed by Fox Searchlight (now owned by Disney), and had it pulled (although the sequel – 28 Weeks Later – which Disney owns outright – is still available). Now, with the 28 Years Later trailer reinvigorating interest in the franchise, Sony has finally re-released the original film to streaming services like iTunes, albeit in a basic HD transfer, which might surprise fans who’ve been anticipating a 4K re-release.

At the end of the 1980s, there was something in the water in Hollywood. Audiences experienced a tsunami of sci-fi horror films that were hard to tell apart from Alien, save for their aquatic setting: Leviathan, The Abyss, DeepStar Six, The Rift, and Lords of the Deep all arrived between 1989 and early 1990. It may look like a simple case of competition, but working out which film came first — and why they all came at once — is no easy task.
Unsurprisingly, James Cameron's Oscar-winner The Abyss came out on top at the box office and with the critics, but it wasn't necessarily due to its originality. These five features have oddly repetitive plots involving miners and military missions, science experiments and submarines, and monsters and aliens. While some filmmakers copped to competing with the others, many claimed ignorance of the underwater arms race — but the trend may have started with a best-selling book.

Since crossing paths in the early ’90s, Guillermo del Toro and James Cameron have become great friends both on and off the realm of filmmaking. Del Toro, who previously confessed to becoming an admirer of the Titanic director, especially after the latter helped him out after his father was kidnapped, didn’t back away from dishing out his honest viewpoints on Cameron’s works.

Hollywood villains are often portrayed as the epitome of evil, the exact opposite of the story’s protagonist. However, it wouldn’t be wrong to argue that some Hollywood villains challenge the simplistic good-versus-evil narrative, leaving viewers to question whether the “hero” was truly on the moral high ground.

A New Hope and the rest of the Star Wars trilogy may be preserved and pristine, but there’s something wonderfully tactile about the untouched theatrical print.
The 20th Century Fox logo wobbles as its accompanying fanfare tinnily rings out. An Imperial Star Destroyer roaring overhead is joined by scratches and splotches of dust. Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi glide into a rather subdued Mos Eisley with just one Dewback as a background extra.

There have been countless "almosts" throughout film history, stories of filmmakers and actors nearly landing movies and roles that went on to make cinema history. There are also a bevy of tales regarding just how different famous movies nearly were, whether it has to do with their stories, their endings, their marketing, and so on. 1989's "Batman" is a flashpoint for all of these kinds of tales, in part because of how long it had been in development, and in part because of how much of a cultural juggernaut it was expected to be (and ended up becoming). There have been all sorts of wild anecdotes about the film's production told over the years, everything from how the ending of the film was partially inspired by Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera" to how Prince, George Michael, and Michael Jackson were at one point due to collaborate...

The 1980s were full of underappreciated science fiction movies, particularly where Alien movies were concerned. The Alien movies began in the late 70s with Alien, but the franchise truly hit its stride in the 80s, with James Cameron's Aliens dominating the sci-fi scene alongside other extraterrestrial movies like The Thing and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. The success of these films overshadowed a lot of lesser-known sci-fi movies of the 80s that deserve more credit.
Many of these films were admittedly driven by the success of Aliens, featuring space invaders that echoed the design and tactics of the Xenomorph creatures. A low budget can also be to blame for many of these B-films falling by the wayside over the years, with only the most dedicated cult followers singing their praises or even knowing of their existence. Science fiction in the 80s is so much better and more plentiful than most familiar with Aliens might realize.

Developer Variable State is taking cues from 80s horror classics such as John Carpenter’s The Thing, The Fly and The Abyss in their new mash-up of a first-person shooter with Metroidvania elements in Deepest Fear, coming initially to PC via Steam. Announced during the PC Gaming Show, Deepest Fear will aim to plunge players into an unsettling survival horror experience set deep beneath the ocean’s surface, in the claustrophobic confines of a decaying underwater facility, where water itself becomes a living threat.
As Dr. Danni Carroll, players are thrust into the labyrinthine depths of Neptune, a retro-futuristic facility hiding secrets and dangerous truths. Trapped far from rescue, Danni must contend with hostile creatures that spawn from water sources, a failing infrastructure, and shifting, submerged environments that change with each moment. As a result, players must harness their wits and an arsenal of tools to uncover the mysteries surrounding...

Tom Cruise and director Doug Liman are said to be making a ‘scary’ supernatural film next. But what is Deeper, and why do they want to make it?
Across his lengthy career to date, Tom Cruise has climbed the tallest building in the world, clung to the side of a plane during take-off, and fought an Egyptian mummy. What’s left for a Hollywood star who’s done everything? According to director Doug Liman, head off on a mission to the bottom of the ocean.
Liman himself broke the news about what could be his next collaboration with Cruise earlier this week when he told Showbiz411 that he and the star are planning to make a “scary” supernatural thriller together. That thriller is said to be Deeper, a script originally written in 2015 and which prompted one of those studio bidding frenzies we hear about from time to time; at one stage,...

"Though the tide is high, have no fear." While many gravitate to spaceship-set horror, I find underwater horror stories to be equally terrifying, especially considering how little of the ocean we've actually explored. That's why I'm really excited that Morning Star co-creators Tim Daniel and David 'Db' Andry have reunited for Crush Depth, a brand-new horror/action comic book series from Mad Cave Studios. Releasing in early 2025, Crush Depth features illustrations by Alex Sanchez, colors by Kurt Michael Russell, and letters by Justin Birch, with covers from Alex Sanchez and Ramon Villalobos. Along with first details on the new series, we also have a look at cover art, and preview pages you can read right now!

Director Doug Liman says he’s making Deeper, a ‘scary’ undersea supernatural thriller, with Tom Cruise as its star.
Director Doug Liman and Tom Cruise have long planned to work together again after collaborating on Edge Of Tomorrow and American Made. And according to a new report, that is still set to happen – just not in the guise we expected. When thinking about a Liman/Cruise collaboration at Warner Bros, a sequel to 2014’s Edge Of Tomorrow might spring to mind – but no, it seems like the duo could be cooking up something different.
Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman (via World of Reel) quotes Doug Liman as saying that his next film will be Deeper, starring Tom Cruise. It’s a project that Warner Bros has reportedly been trying to get off the ground for a decade under the stewardship of several different filmmakers.

In John Musker's and Ron Clements' 2016 animated feature "Moana," the title character (Auliʻi Cravalho) takes to the ancient oceans to settle an old dispute, begun a millennium ago, by the local Polynesian deities. Moana, like many Disney characters, longs for "more," and becomes adept at ocean navigation. She also has secret superpowers: she can communicate with the waters of the sea, and it will occasionally become a helpful water tentacle, like in "The Abyss." Moana eventually finds an imprisoned demigod named Maui (Dwayne Johnson), who is something of a trickster, but who ultimately becomes her traveling companion. The pair is only accompanied by a walleyed chicken named Heihei voiced by Alan Tudyk.
The bulk of "Moana" is just Moana and Maui (and Heihei) on a small boat, discussing her mission and the differences between humans and demigods. Occasionally throughout the film, audiences see scenes back on Moana's home island...

James Cameron's The Terminator changed action cinema forever when it came out in 1984. Furthermore, the concept is one of the most interesting and stylistically charged sci-fi concepts in history. The first film quickly grew into a beloved I.P. among audiences, and the storyline was peak cinematic storytelling. It spawned an equally brilliant sequel in 1991, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, where James Cameron expanded the lore of his science fiction universe. Arguably Arnold Schwarzenegger's greatest role as the Terminator, who hunts Sarah Connor and protects John Connor, has become a staple of sci-fi action movies. Naturally, the popularity of the universe would continue to grow and spawn more sequels.
The problem, of course, is that the Terminator franchise is not one of the most consistently great sci-fi universes around. After the hit sequel in 1991, a third film was made in 2003, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. After that, the films went on a hiatus,...

Terminator star Michael Biehn is back. The actor, who notably collaborated with acclaimed director James Cameron for The Terminator, Aliens, and The Abyss, is the latest actor to join Adam Wingard's Onslaught. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the A24 film is described as a "gonzo action horror thriller." Reginald VelJohnson, best known for his work on Family Matters and recently became a fan-favorite during his short-lived stint on Dancing with the Stars, and Eric Wareheim (Tim & Eric) have also joined the feature alongside Biehn. They join previously announced cast members Adria Arjona (Blink Twice), Dan Stevens (Abigail), and Drew Starkey (Outer Banks).
UFC Champion Alex "Poatan" Pereira is in talks to be the next to land a role in Onslaught as the movie's villain, The Butcher. This would mark Pereira's feature film debut. Arjona will portray the film's protagonist, a "mother living in a trailer who falls back...

The actor has spent the past couple of decades working in the low-budget thriller space outside the Hollywood mainstream, but has now joined the growing cast of Onslaught, the action thriller that Adam Wingard is directing for A24.
Reginald VelJohnson, the Family Matters actor who is also remembered for his role in action classic Die Hard, and comedian Eric Wareheim (Tim & Eric) have also signed for the feature, which gets underway this month.

Disney tried to re-release The Abyss in UK cinemas it’s effectively been confirmed, but pulled the plan due to a lack of BBFC certificate.
The long wait for James Cameron’s The Abyss to get a 4K remaster and fresh physical media release finally ended around a year ago – but not if you’re in the UK. The 1989 movie is now widely available again on physical media and video on demand services around the world, but a UK re-release is caught in limbo.
In one corner, there’s the British Board Of Film Classification (BBFC), which continues to object to a particular sequence in the movie. In the other, James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, which refuses to release the film without that scene intact.
The latest annual report from the BBFC has brought the issue back up, with the reveal that the board received 15 complaints about the movie’s lack of classification.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day's T-1000 is brought to life without CGI in a new video that pulls the effect off with real liquid metal. Released in 1991, the second installment in the Terminator franchise hails once again from filmmaker James Cameron. Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as a T-800 in the film, this time assigned to protect John Connor (Edward Furlong) from Robert Patrick's more powerful T-1000 unit, which has the ability to turn into liquid metal. The film was widely celebrated for, among other things, its groundbreaking VFX used to bring the T-1000 to life.

When James Cameron wrote ‘the future is not set’, he wasn’t kidding. The year was 1982 and Cameron — then a Roger Corman-schooled production designer, art director, effects guru and general Jim of all trades — was in Rome, directing a few ill-fated days on Piranha II before getting the boot, when a vision came to him in a fever dream. It was a hellish image, of a chrome skeleton, an unstoppable robot that Cameron decided was from the future. He called it, and the movie it inspired, The Terminator.
When he got back to Los Angeles, licking his wounds, Cameron started writing the screenplay for a movie in which that unstoppable robot travelled back in time to try to kill the mother of the leader of a future resistance. It included that line, ‘the future is not set’. Which, for Cameron, wasn’t so much a line, more a mission statement.

There hasn't been a surer big screen bet in Hollywood over the last 30-plus years than James Cameron -- though he doesn't always make it easy on the studio footing the bill for his latest film on the way to the multiplex. Since recovering from his only true box office disappointment in 1989's "The Abyss" (which also happens to be his best movie), Cameron has been on the hook for The Most Expensive Movie Ever Made at least three times. Studio heads try their mightiest to never wind up holding that bag, but they also don't want to be the clown that said no to Cameron only to watch the maestro take his nine-figure "gamble" across town, where it becomes The Highest Grossing Movie Ever Made (a peak Cameron has summited twice) for their competitor.

Actor Ed Harris is known for his incredible performances in not just serious drama films like Pollock, The Hours, and The Truman Show, but has also fared well in blockbusters like The Rock, Top Gun: Maverick, and A History of Violence. The actor has been nominated for the Oscars four times and his work on Westworld got him an Emmy nomination too.
While Harris has never shied away from experimenting with different kinds of films, he truly felt that his life had ended when he worked on James Cameron’s The Abyss. Since the advent of film and the rise of Hollywood, every generation has a handful of filmmakers whose work simply cannot be ignored for one reason or another. When it comes to directors who rose to prominence throughout the 1980s and 1990s, two of the greatest are easily James Cameron and Michael Bay, whose respective styles have captivated audiences in similar ways, albeit for wildly different reasons.
While Cameron and Bay have always stood on different sides of the film making spectrum in terms of their stylistic choices and methods, there has always been a common throughline of epic set pieces and tense, tight action that connects their careers in immediately recognizable ways. For years, it seemed as if the two were destined to share a very specific space in the annals of Hollywood lore, no matter how far removed their respective works may be. Now, thanks to the rise of generative A.

Hollywood would be a lot less interesting, alluring, and engaging if James Cameron hadn’t gotten around to being the legendary filmmaker he is today. One of the most prolific and acclaimed filmmakers of the post-New Hollywood era, the landscape of the film industry would certainly have a lot missing if it wasn’t for his iconic movies like The Terminator, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar, and more.

How would you define “locked in”? Sure, we know it’s a matter of staying focused on the task and letting nothing get in your way. But how would we describe that in movies and TV? What examples would you give? Well, in a recent social media trend, fans are putting their money on some of the biggest names in the history of entertainment.
Last week, X user jayjjalen asked followers to “define ‘locked in’”, resulting in millions of views and thousands of replies. The real catch here is that the “locked in” phase must have been consecutive and uninterrupted. In other words, if there was one slip-up via a box office bomb or creative flop, it doesn’t count – that is, they weren’t truly “locked in.”

Director James Cameron has purchased the rights to Charles Pellegrino‘s upcoming book “Ghosts of Hiroshima,” which will be published by Blackstone Publishing in August 2025 (the 80th anniversary of the bomb’s dropping in 1945).
Cameron will combine and adapt “Ghosts” and Pellegrino’s 2015 book “Last Train From Hiroshima” into a single film, which he will shoot when “Avatar” production allows. It will be titled “Last Train from Hiroshima.”
The film will tell the true story of a Japanese man during World War II who survived two atomic bombings: after living through the explosion in Hiroshima, he took a train to Nagasaki, enduring another blast there. Pellegrino was a science consultant to Cameron on both “Avatar” and “Titanic,” and Cameron has been interested in bringing this story to the big screen for over 20 years.
The project would mark Cameron’s first non-“Avatar” franchise project as a narrative feature director since 1997, when he released “Titanic.

The project would mark Cameron’s first non-“Avatar” franchise project as a narrative feature director since 1997, when he released “Titanic.

As Aliens, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, The Abyss and True Lies finally get 4K releases, many have complained about the use of AI and digital smoothing methods that may have compromised the integrity of the picture. Believe it or not, James Cameron has only directed nine released narrative features in his titanic 40-year career in Hollywood. The self-proclaimed cinematic King of the World is the second-most lucrative filmmaker after the incomparable Steven Spielberg, with Cameron’s wildly entertaining movies grossing $8.7 billion globally. Still, two of his titles remain slightly overlooked compared to Aliens and the landmark Terminator and Avatar flicks. If you had to make a legitimate case for either, what would you say is Cameron’s most underrated movie: The Abyss or True Lies? Aside from Piranha 2: The Spawning, that is.
