The 70s were a time when television would seem to try anything at least once. Science Fiction was one of the main genres where this was very true. Thanks to the success of series like Star Trek, and Lost in Space there was a deluge of, off beat and actually good genre TV (as we explored on last week’s Land of the Lost episode). Typically it was with some sort of toy tie-in or angle to get children to watch and/or buy something. And just wait until Star Wars happened.
But, the early 70s would find a new kind of hero to grab the hearts and minds of kids across the country and he’d bring with him some of the coolest toys around. Because, he was literally made up of metal and plastic himself.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice introduced a great number of DC Universe heroes to live-action, and the most ignored hero that would go on to feature in Justice League was given one of the most compelling introductions. While there is much to love about the Dceu, the franchise faced pressure to quickly introduce many of its characters, leading to a theatrical cut of Justice League that felt underdeveloped. This has led the new Dcu to prioritize even Teen Titans before another Justice League film. However, much of the Dceu worked, especially a few particular hero introductions.
Looking at ranking the heroes in the Dceu, many of the best characters came about early in the franchise. Following the success of Man of Steel, Warner Bros. rushed to put their Justice League cast together, introducing nearly all of them at least briefly in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. All of...

Baki is a grappling tale that stands at the pinnacle through its profound and compelling themes. Often, the Shonen series is mistaken for Seinen because of its bloody and gory visuals and power-packed fights.
Other than that, it is one of the bestselling manga in the shonen genre. It peaks in terms of its well-written and fleshed-out characters. And while the series has its fair share of overhyped characters, this underdog deserves more respect.

From one-shotting Jack Hammer to challenging Yuujiro Hanma, he had numerous feats in the series. Regardless of his defeats, he stands as an underappreciated character in the series.
On top of that, his conception and persona overturn the traditional portrayals of masculinity. Through his writing of men, Keisuke Itagaki underscores grappling themes tied to parenthood and gender roles on the whole.

The Dceu was dark, but the introductory scene for Cyborg was absolutely wild, with a brief but traumatic cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Dceu had more than its fair share of issues. Despite a promising start in 2013 with Man of Steel, it wasn't long until the entire universe began to fall to pieces. And one of the core issues was how abruptly and rapidly the universe tried to introduce a team of heroes without any real context.
In fact, in the second movie of the entire Dceu, the film featured a gratuitous cameo sequence that left all the action of the film behind to essentially set up trailers for upcoming hero movies. Bruce Wayne makes contact with Wonder Woman, and sends over files that he procured from Lex Luthor which reveal a first glimpse of the Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and presumably Wonder Woman herself, though her clip is not shown.

While the Avengers may be Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the team is typically built for versatility rather than lethal power. Lots of different skills and superpowers are needed to head off every possible threat to the planet, resulting in everyone from Hawkeye to Thor having a place on the team. But what happens when the Earth finds itself at war, and the focus shifts from defeating supervillains to taking down invaders with lethal force? That's when the War Avengers are unleashed.
Marvel fans met the team in 2019's War of the Realms, and followed their adventures in Dennis Hallum, Kim Jacinto and Ario Anindito's War of the Realms Strikeforce: The War Avengers. The Thor-centric event saw the Dark Elf Malekith gather an army from across the Ten Realms and invade Earth, with the Avengers creating strike force teams to target various military assets. Dayle Haddon, a model and actress in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, died Friday in a suspected carbon monoxide leak at a home in Pennsylvania, authorities told CBS News. She was 76.
The Solebury Township Police Department said it responded to a home in Bucks County just after 9 a.m. on Friday after receiving a call about a man “lying down, passed out on the first floor of a detached office/in-law suite.” The 76-year-old man, whose identity has yet to be revealed, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities then found a 76-year-old woman, later identified as Haddon, dead in a second-floor bedroom. While investigating the scene, the fire department detected a high level of carbon monoxide in the property.
“Preliminary investigation is showing that a heating unit malfunctioned exposing a large amount of carbon monoxide within the carriage house,” Detective Sgt. Jonathan Koretzky told CBS News.

Marvel was a wild place for comics in the ‘90s, with Spider-Man getting his fair share of events that were amped up to eleven thanks to the decade’s inherently over-the-top and extreme nature, mainly stemming from his infamous Clone Saga and the unexpected debut of Peter Parker’s double, Ben Reilly, as Spider-Man. Thanks to the talent of the cosplay community, Ben Reilly’s brush with the Carnage symbiote has been given the live-action treatment in a way that begs to be explored on the silver screen.

The DC Universe has a unique opportunity ahead of it. After a decade of DC films with mixed reception, the franchise is receiving a reboot with an all-new creative team, helmed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The previous iteration, called the DC Extended Universe, kicked off with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel in 2013. While fan reception of the film was somewhat accepting, the darker, more realistic take on Superman it offered created a shaky foundation for the rest of the series.
Additionally, the Dceu jumped straight from a solo Superman film to the crossover Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which had the lofty job of introducing Batman and Wonder Woman as well as teasing the rest of the Justice League. That movie largely set the tone moving forward. Some entries in the Dceu were good, and some were not so good. A lot of them left dangling...

There are plenty of unique characters in the Metal Gear series, both science fiction and supernatural. From massive mechanical threats like the Metal Gears to clone soldiers like Solid Snake, the series has continuously demonstrated how warfare has advanced. Furthermore, cyborg technology has developed throughout Metal Gear‘s timeline, and the cyborg ninja concept is the most notable example.

We all needed an alternative to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sorry, Feige, but it just hasn’t felt the same since Avengers: Endgame. I know we needed to start from the bottom in order to build credible characters once more, but you won’t be achieving the same levels of fan hype from a 10-year build out of three (let’s be real — nothing in the last six years that has been theatrically released blows fans’ minds). Hopefully, Doomsday and/or Secret Wars will change that, but for now, James Gunn’s Dcu is looking real nice.

With James Gunn's Dcu on the horizon, there's a hefty handful of projects to look forward to. Long gone are the Dceu days of scrapped projects and crushed dreams because there's a new head honcho. The Dcu in late 2024 is all about open-mindedness and looking forward to the future. Creature Commandos(which releases on December 5th, 2024) and 2025's David Corenswet-led Superman both stand as beacons of hope for DC Comics fans whose hearts were ripped out by the failings of the DC Extended Universe. While the Dcu is only trending upwards right now, it's hard not to look back and wonder what could've been, especially for one particular scrapped 2020 film.

Cyborg: A Documentary is a groundbreaking investigation of human potential. It focuses on Neil Harbisson, a rare individual who turned his color blindness into a breakthrough sensory experience. Carey Born directs this documentary, which transports viewers to a world where technology and human biology intersect in extraordinary ways.
Harbisson, born with achromatopsia, only perceives the world in black and white. Instead of accepting this constraint, he took a bold step: surgically implanting an antenna that translates colors into sound frequencies. This device does more than merely compensate for his handicap; it introduces a new sensory dimension, allowing him to “hear” colors in nuanced, distinct tones.
The film is more than a biographical portrait; it profoundly reflects human adaptation and technical progress. Born creates a narrative that connects Harbisson’s journey to larger themes about our species’ capacity for transformation. While Bloodsport, the 1988 martial arts tournament movie, is widely considered by fans to be Jean-Claude Van Damme’s best film, it almost never saw the light of day. Indeed, according to Nick De Semlyen’s book, “Last Action Heroes” (buy it here), the film was deemed unreleasable by Cannon Pictures head Menachem Golan. The film sat on the shelf for fourteen months and was considered so bad that Golan intended to release the movie direct-to-video. Things got so heated that Golan refused to go ahead with a proposed sequel to Lone Wolf McQuade, which would have featured Van Damme teaming up with Chuck Norris (who was an early mentor to Jcvd). He wanted Michael Dudikoff instead.
According to the book, Van Damme, who had returned to his old job as a limo driver when Bloodsport wrapped, convinced the studio to allow him to re-edit the film with Towering Inferno editor Carl Press.

Akira Toriyamas Dragon Ball is celebrated for many diverse reasons and its managed to become such an evergreen hit thats lasted the test of time because its not just one thing. Dragon Ball loves to dabble in fantasy, gag comedy, and even occasionally horror, but its the series exaggerated action sequences and battles that typically receive the most praise.
Dragon Ball has showcased endlessly innovative fights, some of which rely upon totemic transformations, while others are decided by who has the most powerful energy attacks or martial arts skills. However, Dragon Ball has also introduced some memorable weapons that have helped aid heroes and villains in battle, but also their everyday lives. Weapons dont always get their due in Dragon Ball, but these are the most significant tools that have left a lasting mark on the franchise.

James Gunn Says DC Studios' Dcu Slate Remains In Development But Warns Some May Not Come To Fruition
Last January, DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran announced a slate of upcoming Dcu movies and TV shows.
On the big screen, fans were promised Superman, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, and Swamp-Thing. As for the small one, Creature Commandos, Lanterns, Waller, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold were all unveiled.
Last year's WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes slowed things down a little but Superman is in post-production, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is gearing up to begin shooting soon, and Lanterns is assembling its cast. Creature Commandos is also fast approaching.
However, the Dcu slate has continued to evolve. Peacemaker season 2 seemingly came out of the blue, while the trades have shared word on animated Blue Beetle and Robin projects along with movies revolving around the Teen Titans, Bane, and Deathstroke. Definitive updates on many of the titles announced last year have also been few and far between.

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is one of the most popular Shonen series at the current time; it has featured a ton of defining moments in 25 years. However, a major credit for the fame should ideally go to the voice actors of the Straw Hat Pirates. One such name that has resonated quite well with the fans is Kazuki Yao, the voice behind Cyborg Franky.
Franky. Credits: Toei Animation
The actor has been involved in voicing the character since 2000, first playing the role of Jango and later Mr. 2 in 2001, later becoming the permanent voice of the Straw Hat Member in 2005. Indeed, he was a core part of the show’s production.
Sadly, the deteriorating health of Yao-San will force him to lend his voice to the iconic character for one last time in the upcoming episode, 1120. The fans were heartbroken as they expressed their concern for the health of the actor.

Alongside X-Men: The Animated Series and the shows within the DC Animated Universe, Teen Titans is often hailed as one of the greatest animated superhero shows of the '90s and 2000s. Featuring the most iconic members of the team from the comics and taking great inspiration from anime, the series stood out from its contemporaries with its unique style and its perfect balance of jokes with more serious storylines. Every season of the series is consistent with each other while also standing apart, with the core differences between them coming down to their central hero, their main antagonist, and the strength of their story arcs.

DC Studios kicked off last year by revealing the "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" Dcu slate. The downside was it told people that 2023's Dceu movies didn't matter and, for the most part, they ended up flopping.
Reviews also weren't overly kind and the DC brand is now very nearly damaged beyond repair (even Joker: Folie à Deux looks set to underperform at the box office this weekend). As a result, it's up to James Gunn and Peter Safran to turn things around.
However, as the Dcu slate continues to expand - without a single one of their movies playing in theaters - it's time to look back at how "Gods and Monsters" has evolved. There are good and bad elements and a great many unanswered questions.
You can read through this in-depth breakdown of where things stand with DC Studios by clicking the "Next"/"View List" buttons below.

In 2020, a few years after the release of the much-maligned Justice League film, Cyborg actor Ray Fisher first alleged that director Joss Whedon's treatment of the cast was "gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable." Whedon, who took over Justice League reshoots for Zack Snyder when tragedy struck his family, has since faced numerous allegations from Fisher stemming from his behavior on the superhero movie's set, which Fisher further described as manipulative gaslighting. Now, Fisher is now starring alongside John David Washington in Netflix's The Piano Lesson, which he sees as an opportunity to move away from the Whedon-dc controversy.
During an interview with Variety, Ray Fisher discussed his current view on the past Justice League situation regarding Joss Whedon that also involved then-dc movie president Walter Hamada. Smallville has withstood the test of time as an entertaining, nostalgic take on the Superman mythos. For 10 seasons, audiences watched the show evolve from an allegory about teenage adolescence and puberty to becoming a full-blown actioner. During its original run, viewers eagerly anticipated seeing Clark Kent finally become Superman.
Naturally, when he finally does become Superman in the final episode, fans who watched his journey for a decade wanted to see more. They had invested so much time waiting as he was slowly built and foreshadowed to become the Man of Steel, so it makes sense that they would want to see what that new journey looks like for Clark. This is where the digital comics of 2012-2013 come in handy. Smallville Season 11 depicts not only what the show would have looked like with an additional season, but with a focus on Clark's first year as Superman.

Jean-Claude Van Damme is one of the most iconic martial arts and action movie stars in the world, thanks in large part to his incredible footwork throughout his many fight scenes. The Belgian martial artist and actor has become synonymous with bombastic hand-to-hand combat over the course of Van Damme's impressive filmography, with each new credit to his name showing off some new fighting form or technique that nearly revolutionized the industry. For the most part, his most memorable moves have all been kicks.
As a real-life former kickboxer, Van Damme is able to combine his valuable combat experience with his trademark hip flexibility to craft some eye-popping strikes with his legs in his films. His fighting style is so unique and memorable that it even inspired the moveset of a famous video game character, Johnny Cage, who Van Damme hasn't yet played in any of the Mortal Kombat films.

In recent days, Beau DeMayo has found himself at the center of media attention, and it’s not just because of his involvement with the highly-rated X-Men ’97 show. Earlier this year, DeMayo was fired as showrunner and head writer just weeks before the first season’s premiere.
While neither DeMayo nor the company initially commented on the reasons for his dismissal, his recent accusations against the company have now sparked widespread speculation.
Earlier this week, DeMayo accused Disney of stripping him of his season 2 writing credits because he shared a sexually suggestive drawing of Cyborg on social media. In response, the company stated that he was removed from all projects due to the severe findings of an internal investigation. Industry insiders have revealed allegations that DeMayo sent sexual photos to young staffers, groped assistants, and was emotionally and physically abusive to other staff members.

‘X-Men ’97’ is Marvel’s latest animated success, consistently earning high ratings and securing renewals for seasons 2 and 3 before the first season even concluded. However, behind the scenes, a real drama unfolded.
Beau DeMayo, the show’s creator and head writer, was abruptly fired just weeks before the premiere, with no explanation provided. Both the studio and DeMayo have remained silent on the matter.
Everything changed recently when DeMayo took to social media to target his former employer. He first criticized Disney for not inviting him to the Emmy Awards and then publicly called out the company while sharing an article about a wrongful death lawsuit Disney is currently facing. The situation escalated when DeMayo accused the company of removing his season 2 writing credits after he shared a sexually suggestive drawing of Cyborg.
A Marvel spokesperson later commented that DeMayo was fired following a lengthy internal investigation, which uncovered serious issues.

Henry Cavill might have moved on from DC after James Gunn’s arrival, but we cannot help but reminisce about his time as Superman every now and then. While the actor was perfect as The Last Son of Krypton, you could say that his casting went to waste as the studio was unable to utilize him as it should have. Henry Cavill was always passionate about Superman, but unfortunately, things were a bit underwhelming, especially when compared to other actors and their characters’ stories.

X-Men ’97 proved to be an unexpected success for Marvel Studios, largely thanks to Beau DeMayo, who created the show. However, behind the scenes, drama was unfolding. Just weeks before the premiere of the first season, DeMayo was dismissed, and neither he nor the company has provided an explanation for his termination.
Reports have suggested that DeMayo was difficult to work with, with some insiders pointing to his non-nsfw OnlyFans channel as a factor. However, recent revelations indicate that the issue may be more serious than initially assumed. Despite his regular social media interactions with fans during the first season of X-Men ’97, DeMayo has remained largely silent about his former employer. He had previously stated that he wrote most of season 2, but recent news has emerged that his scripts have been significantly revised.
A few days ago, DeMayo revealed that he was not invited to the Emmy Awards ceremony despite X-Men ’97 being nominated.

Development continues on director Travis Knight's action feature "The Six Billion Dollar Man", starring Mark Wahlberg, updating the TV series "The Six Million Dollar Man" (1973), based on author Martin Caidin's novel "Cyborg" (1972):

"He can run at speeds of over 60 mph (97 km/h), and his eye has a 20:1 zoom lens and infrared capabilities, while his bionic limbs all have the equivalent power of a bulldozer. He uses his enhanced abilities to work for the 'Osi' ('Office of Scientific Intelligence') as a secret agent.."
"The Six Million Dollar Man" aired 100 episodes, spawning spinoff, "The Bionic Woman".

Mark Wahlberg has been attached to a remake of The Six Million Dollar Man since 2014, with Peter Berg, Damian Szifron, and Travis Knight among the filmmakers to have taken a crack at the project before it got caught up in rights issues at Skydance.
All we really know is that the movie has been retitled The Six Billion Dollar Man and that Wahlberg still hopes to play the title character.
ComicBook.com spoke to the actor at the premiere of his and Halle Berry's new Netflix movie, The Union, and asked where things stand with the project. Mark Wahlberg is still holding out hope that hell one day play his own superhero: The Six Billion Dollar Man. Originally thought to be opening in 2017, the big-screen reimagining of star Lee Majors' television series, The Six Million Dollar Man, has languished in a would-have-could-have-should-have development hell for over seven long years.
However, while promoting his new film The Union, Wahlberg was asked if his co-star Halle Berry has tried to recruit him into the world of cinematic superheroes. And the actor used the opportunity to once again bring up the bionic badass, Steve Austin not to be confused with the "Stone Cold" wrestler. Wahlberg told ComicBook.com:

While the excitement of Mortal Kombat fans is running high due to the reveal of Khaos Reign Dlc, one issue with the franchise has not been addressed yet. The artistic and gameplay approach of the franchise over the past few games has somewhat changed, possibly due to Ed Boon’s vision.
The past few games in the series feel very similar to MCU in the approach it takes. This is very different from early games in the series, which focused more on martial Arts, mysticism, and magic.
Mortal Kombat 1 Reflects the Change in the Franchise’s Tone
The initial games in the franchise were more geared towards magic and fighting in general. The storylines felt relatively straightforward, and the gore/brutality aspect was at the forefront.

“Nothing lasts forever.” There’s something deeply ironic about that line of dialogue being dropped by Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in only the second Avengers movie from almost 10 years ago. While Johansson’s tenure in the superhero genre is apparently over, with the Oscar-nominated star more recently focusing on films like Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, the MCU is still going strong with the latest whispers about Avengers 5 getting the rumor mills spinning again. Hence one of the reasons Steve Carell and Illumination Entertainment’s new marketing for Despicable Me 4 is so biting.

"Teen Titans Go!" is a bit of a controversial cartoon among fans, as it is a much more comedic, kid-friendly version of the 2003 "Teen Titans" cartoon (which was darker and more anime-inspired). Some fans see "Teen Titans Go!" as representative of the uber-commercialization of art, a cash-grab of a show with none of the heart of the original. Of course, to think that would be to ignore one of the most subversive, hilarious, and most of all, bizarre superhero animated shows to date.
Then there's the movie, which gave us some of the best moments in a DC film (like Robin enthusiastically pushing Thomas and Martha Wayne into Crime Alley so Batman can exist), but also the TV show itself which stands alongside "Regular Show" and "Flapjack" as often breaking Cartoon Network's "no weird" rule. There are episodes where Robin teaches the Titans about equity, pyramid schemes, and even the IRS.
