Sean Connery walked away from acting after a career spanning five decades. His most popular role was obviously 007 as he is still considered one of the best James Bond actors ever. He also had some noteworthy roles in films like Murder on the Orient Express, Highlander, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Hunt for Red October, and The Rock.
His final on-screen role was playing Allan Quatermain, a character that originated in King Solomon’s Mines, in the comic-based film, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Interestingly, the movie had a big role in the actor embracing his retirement life as he had major issues while working on the film.

He has won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in the 1987 film The Untouchables. His health may have also factored in the actor’s decision to give up acting altogether.

Character actors are an interesting bunch. They are often key speaking roles in plotlines which aren't usually at the forefront of the story, yet their presence is unforgettable. Whether they fade out of the plot or are killed off as soon as their role in the story has expired, the characters they portray can often be so signature that it grants these performers a wealth of future roles of similar weight. In the case of Julian Glover, it's been a lifetime of being "That Guy" in many franchises.
Like most classically-trained actors, Julian Glover hails from London England, and honed his craft for years in Britain's illustrious theaters and shows featured on the British Broadcasting Corporation television channel. In the late 70s, Glover would begin scoring roles in Hollywood roles,...

I recently came across some fascinating details about a Star Wars project that never saw the light of day. It’s called Star Wars: Underworld, and it was a bold idea from George Lucas himself.
Let’s dig into what could have been a game-changer for the franchise, based on what I learned from a podcast episode of Young Indy Chronicles featuring Peter and Daniel, along with producer Rick McCallum.
This canceled show was set to be unlike any Star Wars story we’ve seen before. Imagine a darker, more intense Star Wars with a mature edge—something that felt sexy and even violent.
It was meant to push boundaries, showing a side of the galaxy far removed from the family-friendly adventures we’re used to. The plan was to explore the gritty underbelly of this universe, and it sounds like it would have been a wild ride.

No genre stretches the imagination to the farthest reaches of possibility more than sci-fi, where the only limit is creativity. It’s a genre built on wonder, exploration and the thrill of discovery. Whether it’s a spacecraft journeying through space or aliens beyond understanding, the allure of sci-fi is universal. Yet, few films manifest youthful curiosity quite like Joe Dante’s Explorers.
Released in 1985, this under-the-radar gem managed to sidestep the blockbuster frenzy of its time to become a cult classic, one that still resonates with anyone – young or old – who has ever dreamed of building a spaceship in their backyard and flying off into the stars. Explorers captures the kind of wonder that only childhood can bring, where the impossible feels within reach. While the film may not have been a huge box-office success, it’s one that stands the test of time as a tribute to the...

When you're one of the greatest directors in film history, letting go of a project becomes a common occurrence. This was one of the challenges that Steven Spielberg faced when, after much deliberation, he had to set aside "Rain Man" in favor of another major project in the works. The 1988 movie starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise is regarded as one of the finest films in both of their careers — one to which Spielberg dedicated a considerable amount of time before passing it on to another filmmaker. While Barry Levinson was telling the story of Charlie Babbitt (Cruise) reuniting with his estranged and autistic brother, Raymond (Hoffman), Steven Spielberg was off on another whirlwind adventure with one of cinema's most beloved heroes, who this time was bringing his dad.

Hollywood veteran Harrison Ford has never been one to shy away from talking about the realities of filmmaking, whether it involves storytelling, acting, or—most recently—the growing presence of AI. While CGI graphics and advanced technology continue to reshape the entertainment industry – mostly for the worse, it seems - Ford believes A.I. is not needed and there is something else out there that can easily "steal my soul:" Hollywood stunt performers.
In a recent conversation with the Wall Street Journal, Ford was asked about how he felt having his likeness replicated in projects such as the new Indiana Jones video game, which puts his face on the character that players get to control and journey with through a new Indy adventure. In his usual style, Ford detoured from specifically answering the question and explained how he believes that while technology can put someone’s face on another person’s body,...

The original Indiana Jones trilogy that ran from 1981 to 1989 is without a doubt one of the most entertaining, well-written and greatly-executed works of cinema ever. With its incredible set pieces, direction, iconic sequences and brilliant Harrison Ford performance, the original trilogy effectively told a story like no other. In 2008, a fourth Indiana Jones movie was finally made called Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas all involved once again. There was a lot of excitement around Indy's return even if the film itself didn't live up to expectations.
What some fans may not realize is that there were plans to continue the Indiana Jones series in the 1990s after Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989. The planned sequels would have looked to continue Indy's story after the events of The Last Crusade and possibly explore other periods of...

Oscar winning actor Ke Huy Quan was discussing his favorite action scenes from his movies with EW while promoting his new film, Love Hurts. Quan reflected upon a moment between him and Harrison Ford before they filmed the famous mine cart scene in Steven Spielberg's classic film, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Only 12 years old during production, the actor said he was frightened of the intense scene and Harrison Ford took a moment to console him.
"When we shot this sequence, I was so scared. And I cried. I remember Harrison Ford kneeling down in front of me and asking me if I was okay. He said, and I'll never forget this, 'Ke, I want you to remember, I will never hurt you.' When he said that, oh my gosh, it just made me love him so much more. Here is Indiana Jones telling me...

Harrison Ford has a reputation in Hollywood for telling it like it is and appearing to take just about anything in stride. It's a personality trait that has made him one of the most beloved people in the industry, and he continues to be the guy we can all rely on when discussing the box office failure of 2023's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. If it's something that bothered him, the actor isn't showing it. In fact, his response is very on-brand.
During an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford was asked about the box office disappointment of the fifth Indiana Jones film, and the actor, who gives a very gruff and direct answer to begin his response, does admit that he's still very happy he made the film.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom introduced the world to Ke Huy Quan's Short Round, though he didn't intend to get the part.
Per People, Quan appeared on the Wtf With Marc Maron podcast ahead of his new film Love Hurts' release, where he discussed auditioning for the role that made him famous as a young boy. He originally attended the Temple of Doom audition with his brother. But after giving him some notes on the script, he was encouraged by the casting director to try out himself. This eventually led to Quan getting cast and meeting director Steven Spielberg, producer George Lucas, and co-star Harrison Ford, recalling the process as "pretty insane. As anticipation builds for Steven Spielberg's upcoming UFO film, it's an opportune moment to revisit one of his most ambitious yet underappreciated sci-fi projects: the 2002 miniseries Taken. This expansive narrative, written by Leslie Bohem, produced by Spielberg, and featuring a young Dakota Fanning, masterfully intertwines decades of alien lore with deeply human stories. With its unique vision, it delivers a blend of suspense, emotion, terror, heartbreak, and intrigue that remains unparalleled.
Despite its Emmy-winning acclaim, Taken has not maintained the same cultural footprint as some of Spielberg's other alien-themed works. However, its rich storytelling and compelling performances make it a standout as far as alien tales, and science fiction in general. With intricate stories, deep emotional arcs, and some truly haunting scenes that get under your skin, it deserves the same love and appreciation as any other alien tale.

Sean Connery holds the honor of being the first big screen 007. Connery made his James Bond debut in 1962 with the Terrence Young-directed film Dr. No. Connery went on to star in five more James Bond films — From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever — even returning to the franchise after a brief interruption by George Lazenby's one-off Bond film and the non-Eon Bond movie Never Say Never Again. Little did he know at the time that the Bond movies would become one of the biggest action franchises to date.
Bond took up the better part of a decade of Connery's career, beginning in 1962 and ending with Diamonds Are Forever in 1971 in the traditional series. Prior to his death in 2020, Connery went on to have a long acting career after ending his Bond tenure. His first 007 follow-up was The Offence...

By most accounts, MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle captures much of the magic found in the whip-cracking adventure hero’s best-loved adventures. Storied video game voice actor Troy Baker channels early 1980s Harrison Ford as Dr. Henry Jones, Jr., as players engage in a story that takes the archaeologist to ancient sites around the globe. Set in 1937, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle takes place in the gap year between Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as Jones once again tries to hunt down a priceless artifact before it falls into the hands of power-hungry Nazis.
ScreenRant’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle review praises the game’s film-like style, and it’s hard to imagine anything Indiana Jones feeling authentic without music steeped in the style of John Williams. Thankfully, composer Gordy Haab is an expert in the subject. Haab...

Jack Nicholson was already a major star before he played the Joker in 1989's "Batman." But his unprecedented deal with Warner Bros. for that particular blockbuster netted the actor more than $50 million and made him one of the wealthiest performers in Hollywood — not to mention one of the most influential. After somehow wangling a portion of the profits from both the box office and merchandising revenues from "Batman," Nicholson set a new precedent for big-name performers moving forward. The actor also basically ensured that "Batman" never actually turned a profit for Warners even though it became a box office smash.
When "Batman" debuted in the summer of 89, it arrived amid a public frenzy dubbed "Bat-mania" by the media. Audiences were clamoring for director Tim Burton's take on the Caped Crusader, which promised to restore the "Batman" property to its dark roots and deliver a serious take on a...

Sean Connery and Michael Caine co-starred in A Bridge Too Far, a massively underrated war epic that received mixed reviews from critics on its initial release, but deserves a lot more love. Connery is best known for playing James Bond in six official movies (and one unofficial one), but he was a screen legend outside his connection to the role of 007. He starred in a wide range of movies, from the psychological thriller Marnie to the Agatha Christie whodunit Murder on the Orient Express. He worked with such legendary directors as Alfred Hitchcock, Sidney Lumet, and John Huston.

Appropriately enough, Wicked was the overwhelmingly Popular choice over the weekend for moviegoers flocking to see the big-screen adaptation of the Broadway musical. And while Gladiator II fared well enough to finish in second place at the box office, it was The Wizard of Oz prequel that ascended to No. 1. Wicked made an estimated $114 million domestically during its debut (per The Numbers). Meanwhile, No. 2 Gladiator II showed strong with $55.5 million to win the silver medal.
Propelled by the strength of its opening day take of $46.5 million, the Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-led Wicked stormed ahead of Gladiator IIs more modest $22 million start en route to a huge victory over the weekend. Fans and critics both seemed to prefer the magical musical over the Colosseum-sized drama on Rotten Tomatoes. And audiences grading the films as they left theaters gave Wicked an A CinemaScore, while Gladiator II had to settle for a B.

John Rhys-Davies will only return to ‘The Lord of the Rings’ franchise if he can forgo prosthetics in favour of CGI.The 80-year-old actor played Gimli the Dwarf in Peter Jackson’s iconic fantasy trilogy and has now revealed the only way he could make a comeback to Middle Earth was if he was allowed to drop the prosthetics and instead use CGI to get into character, which was first utilised for his co-star Andy Serkis, who played Gollum/Sméagol in the films. In an interview with Collider, Rhys-Davies said: “Well, I’m known to not want to put that prosthetic on again, but out of deference to Andy, whom I love and admire and again who has grown so much, if they invited me … oh God could I dare to put on that make-up again and lose my skin? Maybe with CGI."The ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade...

Quentin Tarantino is a man of his own choice, liking whatever appeases him and praising it unhesitatingly, and bashing whatever displeases him and lashing out at it unwaveringly without even fearing the outcome. That said, his choices – especially regarding the entertainment industry’s pieces, in particular – stand out as much as his extraordinarily remarkable personality as well.

There are two ways of looking at Clint Eastwood's 1980s. One is to view them as an enshrinement. Eastwood turned 50 at the outset of the decade, and the movies were either mainstream-skewing victory laps or thoughtful departures; the star wasn't above coasting, but he made sure to carve out some time for personal projects about subjects that fascinated him (e.g. the country music drama "Honkytonk Man" and the Charlie Parker biopic "Bird"). Basically, Eastwood could do whatever he wanted at his home studio at Warner Bros., and sometimes he wanted to make "Pink Cadillac."
You can also view Eastwood's '80s as a waste of his time and talent. Of the 11 films he made over that 10-year span, only one was great ("Tightrope"), a few were above-average, and the rest were either misfires or outright garbage. Some argue that he needed the behind-the-camera reps to make his '90s and '00s triumphs,...

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle already looks like a terrific new approach to the iconic adventure franchise. Set between the events of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Great Circle tasks Indy with a new globetrotting adventure that could unearth an ancient mystery spanning the entire world. Partnered up alongside a crafty Italian journalist and challenged by a villainous Nazi archaeologist, Indiana Jones finds himself on a globe-trotting adventure that pits him against a new rogues gallery that still feels deeply familiar to fans of the films.
Stepping into the boots, jacket, and fedora of Indiana Jones was always going to be tricky, as reinventing the character for video games has been a uniquely difficult challenge in the past. During an extended demo attended by Screen Rant, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle got a great chance to...

A Tribute to Harrison Ford: One of America’s Most Beloved Actors Leading Star Wars and Indiana Jones
Harrison Ford has been well-known for his performances in his action-driven films such as playing Indiana Jones in the ‘Indiana Jones saga’ and Han Solo in the ‘Star Wars’ films. They have been two successful franchises that had given Harrison some other opportunities for other action roles. However, he also proved to be a wonderful actor by even starring in experimental sci-fi movies such as Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi cult favorite ‘Blade Runner’ (1982). 1970s Harrison Ford was born on July 13th, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Ripon College in the state of Wisconsin. He also took some minor acting roles in film and TV. Despite the fact that he was trying to break into the entertainment industry, he was also a carpenter. Around the early 1970s, he landed a small part in George Lucas’ film ‘American Graffiti’ (1973). This was after the famous sci-fi director made his powerful debut film ‘Thx-1138,...

Life imitates art as the location used for the Temple of the Holy Grail in the 1989 Steven Spielberg film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, starring Harrison Ford, has an amazing secret that’s been recently uncovered. The location of the fictional temple is a stunning building that is carved into a sandstone cliff called The Treasury, which is located in Petra, Jordan. Archeologists have long attempted to find a conclusive answer of what the building was used for. However, a popular theory is that it was a mausoleum that was built for the final resting place of an important ruler during its era.
According to The Washington Post, a group of researchers had recently discovered “a chamber buried underneath the Treasury, also known as al-Khazneh, that contains the remains of 12 people and other items they say could finally reveal the structure’s secrets and shed some light on the origins of Petra.

Indiana Jones hasn't reached the same heights that it did when the original trilogy had released. Yet, there are new viewers every day experiencing the magic of Indy for the very first time and instantly understanding why every release is a classic in its own way. With Indiana Jones and the Great Circle soon to be released, taking the archaeologist on yet another adventure, it seems like the perfect time to revisit the franchise for those who have never seen any Indy outing before. Indeed, there seems to be a great deal of material to get through, which can be very overwhelming for potential fans. 5 films, a TV show, countless comics, books, games and other spinoff materials; it seems like a lot to get through. However, the canon status of many of these projects is up in the air, making things even more confusing.

When I sat down to watch "Batman Returns" in 1992, even though I was only 11 years old, I was baffled by the fact that Kim Basinger wasn't in the film. I'd probably seen "Batman" (1989) a hundred times by that point -- thanks to a well-worn VHS copy with that stunning Diet Coke commercial beforehand, and as many theatrical viewings as I could muster between viewings of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" -- and I knew Vicki Vale had to return. She had to at least be given a send-off or mentioned somewhere, right?
Well, she was definitely mentioned. In passing. Briefly. And it was easy to miss if you weren't listening for it.
As such a vital and important part of the first film, it felt like we were missing something. Following "Batman," jumping into the narrative landscape of "Batman Returns" felt like we were missing a few issues of comic books between them.

There was once a time when it was completely unheard of for a movie star like Harrison Ford to become a series regular on a half-hour TV comedy. The closest we ever came to a Harrison Ford sitcom in the ‘90s was the time the Full House gang briefly attended Disney World’s Indiana Jones stunt show.

They say a friend in need is a friend indeed, and this couldn’t be truer for Sandra Bullock and Samantha Mathis. Have you ever wondered how deep the roots of friendship can grow in the world of Hollywood, where authenticity is a rare gem?

What these actresses have isn’t just any friendship; it’s an extended family dynamic. When River Phoenix, Mathis’ boyfriend and a beloved star, tragically passed away in 1993, it was undeniably one of the “scariest experiences” in Bullock’s life. Yet during those dark days, the latter’s sympathy and unflagging support provided a silver lining, mirroring her extraordinary empathy and deep bond with Mathis.

Despite Harrison Ford remaining a popular actor, Indiana Jones isn't the franchise with the most longevity, resulting in some then-entertaining quotes that haven't aged well. Following the famed Star Wars alumnus' character's various quests for supernatural artifacts from the ancient world, Indiana Jones was never entirely politically correct. In addition to this, "Indy" leans heavily into the outdated James Bond trope of there always being a pseudo-Bond Girl around, generally needing to be rescued.
Even some of the best quotes in the Indiana Jones movies don't have the intended effect today. Despite the efforts of the later movies to show more respect for the histories they engage with and create better female characters, they struggle to compete with some of the earlier installments, which are generally considered the best Indiana Jones movies. Indiana Jones delivers great action and witty quotes, but which parts of them audiences want to take at face value fluctuates.

Steven Spielberg's four Indiana Jones movies have all suddenly disappeared from Disney+ worldwide. Released in 1981, Spielberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark introduced Harrison Ford's intrepid archaeologist to the world, and he would subsequently return in four sequels, three of which Spielberg would direct.
