Sonic the Hedgehog is a successful video game adaptation featuring the speedy hedgehog battling the evil Dr. Robotnik, who seeks to steal Sonic's powers. Sonic teams up with Tom to stop Robotnik and save the world. The film blends action, quirky comedy, and special effects succinctly. The buddy comedy between Sonic and Tom contrasts with Robotnik's hilarious chaos. Jim Carrey brilliantly portrays Robotnik, showcasing his slapstick skills. Following Sonic's success, Carrey returned for the sequel and third installment, playing Robotnik and his brother.
Carrey infused Dr. Robotnik with comedic charm and slapstick humor, reflecting his forty-year legacy in comedy. Before becoming the iconic villain, Carrey began as a stand-up comic. His physical comedy and impressions garnered him a following, leading to his pursuit of acting. In 1994, he starred in hits like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber, all achieving box office success.

Emmy viewers loved last year's team-up of Eugene Levy and Dan Levy so much, they now want to see another father-son duo host the ceremony.
Poppa's House stars Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. are our readers' top choice to host the 2025 Emmys on CBS. They received a leading 29 percent of fans' votes in Gold Derby's recent poll, a double-digit lead over The Daily Show host Jon Stewart and stand-up comedian John Mulaney, both of whom nabbed 16 percent support.
Wayans Sr. is a four-time Emmy nominee for writing and acting on the seminal sketch-comedy series In Living Color, while Wayans Jr. is still looking for his first Emmy bid. Poppa's House is a freshman hit for CBS and recently earned noms at the American Cinema Editors Guild, the Art Directors Guild, and the NAACP Image Awards.

The Television Academy has cemented Sept. 14 as the date for the 2025 Emmys (see the updated calendar), so now is the perfect time to start thinking about who'd make the perfect host. And we've got some ideas.
First and foremost, Emmy hosts have to be fun. Likable. Energetic. Great on their feet. And, apparently, father-son duos are in.
Following last year's successful team-up of Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, we'd love to see the tradition continue on with Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. They tick all of the above boxes and — bonus points — are currently headlining the sitcom Poppa's House on CBS, the same network that's broadcasting this year's Emmy Awards. That gives them an inside advantage, as the host almost always has a working relationship with the home network.

Jamie Foxx has inked a multi-year deal with Fox Entertainment Studios, giving the network first-look rights to scripted television material from Foxx’s Foxxhole Productions banner, and exclusive rights to his projects and producing services in the unscripted space.
Foxx already has a slate of scripted and unscripted projects in progress and will begin developing them with Fox Entertainment Studios immediately. The agreement builds on Foxx’s long-standing relationship with the network — he currently hosts the music game show “Beat Shazam” alongside his daughter Corinne Foxx, and he executive produces the police procedural “Alert: Missing Persons Unit.”
Foxx and Fox go way back — the Oscar winner had his breakout role on the network’s sketch comedy series “In Living Color,” from 1991 to 1994. Foxx then went on to create and star in “The Jamie Foxx Show” on the WB Network.

Mary Louise Parker and David Alan Grier have been tapped as guest stars of Season 2 of CBS’ “Elsbeth,” the mystery spinoff of “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight” starring Carrie Preston as the de facto detective Elsbeth Tascioni.

“Black Jeopardy,” one of Kenan Thompson’s most popular recurring “Saturday Night Live” sketches, came back to 30 Rock during the show’s 50th anniversary special on Sunday. As usual, Thompson played host Darnell Hayes aka Alex Treblack, with contestants being played by former cast members Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan and, most notably, Eddie Murphy.
The biggest laughs were earned by Murphy, who did an impression of Morgan, while Morgan played a man named Darius and Jones played a woman named Shanice.
“Welcome to ‘Black Jeopardy,’ the only ‘Jeopardy’ where every single viewer fully understood Kendrick’s halftime performance,” Thompson said, opening the sketch with a reference to Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl appearance.
As Thompson introduced him, Murphy called out, “Big dog gonna make some big money!” in an exaggerated put-on of Morgan’s voice.
“Now wait a minute, Tracy. Don’t you already have a lot of money?” Thompson asked him.

From his early days as part of the comedic ensemble of Fox’s In Living Color to his more recent health challenges, Jamie Foxx has been known to defy expectations. His talent for being flamboyant, while charming, allowed Foxx to hold his own opposite legends such as Al Pacino,Tommy Lee Jones, and Eddie Murphy. When the comedian was cast opposite cinematic icon Tom Cruise in Michael Mann’s Collateral in 2004, he delivered an understated performance that transitioned him to Oscar-caliber status.

If you grew up in the 90s like I did, Damon Wayans was one of the biggest names in comedy. He became famous for his run on Fox's sketch comedy show In Living Color before becoming a leading man in feature films like The Last Boy Scout and Blankman, but prior to all of that, he was a cast member on Saturday Night Live. For so many successful comedians, SNL is the starting point that launches them into fame, but for Wayans it was a disaster. You'd be forgiven for not even knowing he was ever on the show. This is because Damon Wayans barely appeared on air, and frustrated with how he was being treated, he took it into his own hands to get Lorne Michaels to fire him for something he did on live TV.

Before Jeff Daniels delivered the performance of a lifetime, he worried that he was about to find himself with no food and no job. Thankfully, his pets got to keep their heads.
In Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s 1994 buddy comedy masterpiece Dumb and Dumber, the Broadway star and Golden Globe-nominee took a major career risk by deciding to go toe-to-toe with Jim Carrey at the height of the latter’s box office power. In a year when Carrey also starred in Ace Ventura and The Mask, the In Living Color star commanded a $7 million salary for Dumb and Dumber while Daniels, best known as an exclusively dramatic actor on stage and on screen, took just $50,000 for the opportunity to co-headline a comedy with film’s funniest superstar. And, thanks to Carrey’s help (and a good-luck cup of tea), Daniels’ risk paid off.

There are few jobs more sought-after in the comedy world than those on "Saturday Night Live," where a role as a cast member or even a seat in the writer's room can rocket comedians to super-stardom. So when actor and comedian Damon Wayans was offered a spot on the season 11 cast of the show in 1985, he jumped at the chance.
The season was supposed to be a reinvention and a return to form for "SNL," as creator Lorne Michaels was returning to helm the show for the first time in five years, and he hired an entirely new cast to try and shake things up. The season 11 cast featured a number of people who would go on to have decent comedy careers, like Joan Cusack, Jon Lovitz, and Dennis Miller, plus absolute superstar Robert Downey Jr., who was hired alongside his best friend Anthony Michael Hall, but at the time...

Poppa’s House is a family affair both onscreen and off. In addition to having the Wayans father-son duo as stars, the new CBS sitcom (which received a full-season order in November) has more Wayans family members on the writing staff behind the scenes. This week’s episode brings more chosen family members into the fold when Tommy Davidson reunites with Damon Wayans Sr. and New Girl‘s Lamorne Morris reunites with Damon Wayans Jr. Davidson tells TV Insider that acting with his In Living Color costar again is “the best thing [he’s] done in 15 whole years” because he felt so cared for during filming. Davidson makes his Poppa’s House debut tonight in an episode all about old friendships. Following the death of Poppa’s (Wayans Sr.) only real friend, he’s looking to connect with new people and hopefully bring this new pal to a Mets game. But Poppa was never good at emotional connections.

Condon has written and directed a compelling new version of a tale that is one part vibrant movie musical, and one part prison drama.

Long before Jennifer Lopez became a powerhouse in movies and music, she was just an aspiring dancer from the Bronx who made an impact as one of the Fly Girls on Fox’s In Living Color. Like many stars before her time, she paid her dues in a highly competitive industry, bouncing between dance gigs and small guest spots on television to showcase her acting talents. It was not until she landed the female lead role opposite superstars Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson in the 1995 buddy action-thriller Money Train that Hollywood began to notice this unique talent.

Wayans discussed the reasons behind his intentional acts that resulted in his termination from the renowned sketch comedy show in an interview with the Peacock documentary SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night.
Wayans Explains His Exit From SNL
Wayans, who had limited on-screen experience apart from a small role in Beverly Hills Cop, said he felt destined to be on SNL.
“I was born to be on Saturday Night Live,” he stated, adding that he had been preparing characters well before his audition. Actor and comedian Damon Wayans has revealed how he purposely got fired from Saturday Night Live. Wayans got his start on the live comedy sketch show, and recently spoke with Variety about being fired from the show during Season 11. In the new Peacock docuseries, SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, Wayans revealed that former SNL star Eddie Murphy, who Wayans had worked with just two years prior in the movie Beverly Hills Cop, offered the comedian advice after he joined the show's cast in 1985:
Eddie’s advice to me was, ‘Write your own sketches. Otherwise they’re going to give you some Black people sh*t to do, and you ain’t gon’ like it.
This advice would prove sound, as Wayans found himself written into other sketches, often cast in stereotypical or offensive roles. The comedian grew frustrated as his ideas were repeatedly scrapped or "cut for time" by the writers and producers,...

Ever since he moved into the public eye with "Star Trek" in 1966, famed /Film contributor William Shatner has gained a reputation for his "large" acting style. This reputation wasn't wholly earned, as Shatner rarely overacted on the original "Star Trek," usually playing Captain Kirk as buttoned-down, judicious, and in control. More recent depictions of Kirk have been incorrect, presenting him as a reckless cowboy and relentless horndog. While Kirk did get into his share of fistfights on "Star Trek" and snogged his share of pretty female guest stars, he wasn't ever careless or distractibly horny. Shatner's "overacting" reputation is extrapolated from only a few carefully selected moments throughout the series.
As such, when someone does an impersonation of William Shatner, they. Tend. To. Say. Every. Word. As. If. It's. Its. Own. Sentence. Jim Carrey spoofed Shatner on "In Living Color" in this way, and Seth MacFarlane, on his animated show "Family Guy,...

Damon Wayans is opening up about his reason for “purposefully” getting himself fired from Saturday Night Live following his short run on the NBC show in the ’80s.
The actor and comedian appeared on the Peacock docuseries SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, where he looked back at his time on the sketch comedy series as well as his departure. He was a castmember on SNL during season 11 in 1985.
Wayans said he had already been working on characters ahead of his audition, as he felt he was “born to be on Saturday Night Live.” He also recalled getting some advice from Eddie Murphy (who was also on SNL in the early ’80s) while appearing in Beverly Hills Cop in 1984.

Back in the early 1980s, Eddie Murphy straight up saved Saturday Night Live from extinction, but when Damon Wayans Sr. joined the show in 1985, Murphy tried to save him the trouble.
Though Murphy’s four seasons on SNL simultaneously skyrocketed him to superstardom and saved the show from fizzling out in its post-Belushi, post-Radner era, Murphy’s relationship with the comedy institution that owes him its very existence was rocky both during and after his time in the cast. Despite being SNL’s absolute messiah, Murphy had struggles with the nearly all-white SNL writing staff during his meteoric rise, and when a future In Living Color star arrived at 30 Rockefeller Plaza shortly after Murphy left, Murphy advised Wayans to watch his back.
After just a year at SNL, Wayans would publicly force Lorne Michaels to release him from his contract by pulling a mid-sketch stunt that would live in infamy.

Jim Carrey wanted to perform from a very young age and when he was just 10 years old wrote to “The Carol Burnett Show” offering his services as an impressionist. While his request was politely declined it would only be another decade before he was all over television with his antic comedic act. He ultimately achieved the brass ring for comedians of this era when he got to appear on “The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.” In 1984 the 22-year-old Carrey was cast as the lead in a TV series called “The Duck Factory” which was supposed to be a star-making vehicle for the actor. Despite its prime placement on NBC’s Thursday night lineup the show quickly failed. Carrey bounced back with small other roles including the lead in the film “Once Bitten” which was a mild box office hit in 1985.

She continues to appear as one of the judges on the ABC dance competition show alongside Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli.

Chuck Russell's 1994 supernatural comedy "The Mask" was based on an ultra-violent character that first appeared in Dark Horse Comics in 1987. In the comics, a magical mask gives the wearer supernatural powers, as well as an outsized, mutated head with green skin and tombstone-like teeth. The mask also robs the wearer of their inhibitions and morality, making them insane, invincible clowns. At best, the comic book version of the Mask is a violent antihero, and he exists in a genre more akin to horror than to traditional superheroism.
Russell's film sanded down the edges a bit. The PG-13-rated movie featured a meek and weak-willed character named Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) who was transformed into a confident, flirty, brash cartoon character when he donned an enchanted mask. He did commit acts of violence (the masked Stanley is particularly cruel to a pair of mechanics that ripped him off), but Stanley...

Cameron Diaz (returning to the movies after a decade) and Jamie Foxx star in spy comedy Back In Action, here’s the trailer.
Cameron Diaz chose to step back from acting a decade ago, with her last feature film credit to date being 2014’s Annie. Before that, she was one of the biggest names in Hollywood, starring in films like The Mask, There’s Something About Mary, the Charlie’s Angels films and voicing Princess Fiona in Shrek.
Jamie Foxx began his career as a stand up comedian, partaking in the popular Def Comedy Jam shows before moving to television to be part of the cast of In Living Color. His first dramatic role was in 1999’s Any Given Sunday and he went on to star opposite Will Smith in Ali and Tom Cruise in Collateral. In 2005, he won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Ray.

One of the most common complaints about latter-day Saturday Night Live is that the cast is too big. That problem gets compounded when SNL enlists multiple people to host at the same time.
How does the show handle that juggling act? As you’ll see below, not very well — when it comes to hosting, less is usually more.
Check out these five examples of two people fighting for stage time while hosting Saturday Night Live…
1 The Olsen Twins Play
The early aughts might have been apex creepy at SNL. Shows featured teenage guests from Lindsay Lohan to Britney Spears to Sarah Michelle Gellar getting hit on by older male cast members under the guise of comedy, while Horatio Sanz was allegedly doing the same thing to fans.
The Olsen Twins episode in 2004 was no exception. Their opening monologue, understandably scrubbed from the Peacock version, features the 17-year-olds complaining about missing prom.
