It's time to rE!wind with Leonardo DiCaprio. Time sure does fly, because everyone's favorite Hollywood heartthrob celebrates his 43rd birthday. It feels just like yesterday Leo was an aspiring A-lister onset of the short-lived series Parenthood, where E! News sat down with the 15-year-old to talk about his breakout TV role. "I like to act," DiCaprio dished, flashing his signature smile. "I think it will get me ahead in life. I like the attention I must admit." When asked if he ever gets nervous in front of the bright lights of a sound stage, Leonardo answered matter of factly, "Not really. You just got to practice a lot and make sure you know what's going...

When Hulu’s screen adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian “The Handmaid’s Tale” hit screens this spring, its bleak imagined future where women are enslaved as vessels for procreation under the government’s watchful eye seemed a lot more believable in Donald Trump’s America. Though the novel is from 1985, when Atwood was responding to Reagan-era threats to reproductive rights, the story took on a heightened significance at a time when many Americans are distressed about having a president who bragged openly about sexual assault.

Zack Snyder is stepping down from directing “Justice League.” The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, which comes for a very unfortunate reason: Snyder’s daughter committed suicide in March and he’s bowing out to deal with the loss. Joss Whedon is coming aboard to finish the film, which is still expected to hit its planned release date of November 17.

Deborah Snyder, a producer on “Jusice League,” is likewise taking a step back from the superhero team-up film, which stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller. “In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was way through it,” Snyder told THR alongside his wife.

This is the right way to do Emmy campaigning. In a historic move, CBS’ “Mom” is foregoing an Emmy campaign this year and is instead donating it’s $250,000 to Planned Parenthood. Let’s hope other shows follow suit as the organization needs support now more than ever. (Hollywood Reporter) Joss Whedon continues his tour of wokeness. Speaking of Planned Parenthood, the director teamed up with the organization to produce a short film about what happens when Pp is shut down. You would think that with all the high-profile pro-Planned Parenthood campaigning taking place, the current administration would take a hint and realize what a huge mistake defunding it would be. (EW) Kirsten Dunst on Hollywood: 'It's always harder for women.'In conversation with director Sophia Coppola to promote their new film “The Beguiled,” the actress got candid about how the industry changes as women age and her difficulty finding funding for “The Bell Jar,...

TV (@warnerbrostv) May 18, 2017 CBS's hit show Mom just did something you rarely ever see in Hollywood: it donated its entire award show campaign budget to charity. The show's cocreator Chuck Lorre and its star Allison Janney announced on CBS This Morning on Thursday that instead of using their $250,000 award show budget to campaign for an Emmy win, they're giving it all to Planned Parenthood. The two are also encouraging the show's fans to donate to the organization on their own. Their amazing generosity comes on the heels of the devastating and enraging news that the Senate is considering passing the American Health Care Act, which would block low-income patients from being able to use Planned Parenthood for things like cancer screenings and birth control. “Avengers” filmmaker Joss Whedon has directed a short for Planned Parenthood in which he exposes what life would be like without the women’s health organization. In the short, titled “Unlocked,” three women go through different experiences in their lives. One woman faces a loved one’s death from cancer; a teenager deals with an unexpected pregnancy; and another teenager deals with her friend’s exposure to an Std. The joy of last week’s Crazyhead was Raquel’s emergence as the show’s super-powered focus and her developing friendship with Amy. It’s disappointing then, for Shave The Cat to more or less shrug off what happened at the ice-rink and split the girls up with a scattershot episode that goes off in all directions.
Raquel’s new-found powers are ignored and Sawyer’s demise is given only a cursory nod in an episode about Amy’s best friend returning from the dead.

So begins Sergio Leone's For a Few Dollars More, the film's opening title card succinctly setting the scene for the carnage to come. And yet, for all of its ominous portent, the preface betrays a certain shortsightedness: Just because the film is set in the past doesn't mean that it should speak in the past tense. More than 40 years have elapsed since that spaghetti Western first hit theaters — and more than 100 since the twilight of the late 19th Century frontier that it depicts.

Yesterday was a head-spinning day when it came to '90s nostalgia. In the morning, Showtime announced that "Twin Peaks" would be returning in 2016 with a nine-episode miniseries, and there was much rejoicing across social media. In the evening, meanwhile, Deadline reported that NBC was developing a sequel series to "Say Anything," set 10 years after the events of the film, and there was much anger and skepticism on social media — and no one sounded unhappier than "Say Anything" writer/director Cameron Crowe, whose tweet about the project may have already killed it. I write an article at Movies.com called Film Face-off, where I take two things, and they battle it out. The things could be actors, movies, characters, just about anything. Give it some love, comments, tweets, Facebook affection.
Film Face-off: Leonardo DiCaprio vs. Tobey Maguire
The Great Gatsby is a classic American novel. Now that director Baz Luhrmann has breathed new life into the story with another big-screen adaptation, kids everywhere are flocking to their local five and dimes to get a hand on the original. Ok, that might not be true, but it is true that on-screen stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire have been friends for years after first meeting at the casting of the TV show Parenthood (1990 version).
Ah, but now friends will become enemies. That’s right, when Maguire and DiCaprio sit down to read this (because you know they will), it will likely mean the end of their friendship.

Leonardo DiCaprio is a quadruple threat: Actor, producer, game show contestant and person who doesn't win things. The latter skill sets go as far back as 1990, as evident in this clip uploaded by VideoSurferYNX and surfaced by Buzzfeed. The then-15-year-old actor, at the time best know for his role on Parenthood but having also played "Kid Fighting Scout" in The Outsiders and "Darlene's Classmate" on Roseanne (his best work to date, playing Luke Brower on Growing Pains, was just around the corner), appeared on Fox's game show Fun House. The show was no Legends of the Hidden Temple, but did involve Leo dressing as Godzilla, getting hit with "schmutz bombs,"...

Prepare for another rung of the rumor mill concerning the character of T’Challa, better known as Black Panther. Following a now deleted Twitter post, the internet was abuzz that perhaps Chestnut had been hired as Black Panther, and that he’d be involved in Joss Whedon’s Avengers 2.
Obviously, not so fast. Earlier, actor Morris Chestnut (Kick-ass 2, V, American Horror Story) posted the following on his Twitter:
“It’s time to get familiar with the Black Panther character!”
This was removed, and now Chestnut posted this update:

What does this mean? Nothing, for now. But the idea that Black Panther may make his debut in Avengers 2 just got a little bit more likely. As for Morris Chestnut? It’d be a massive boon for the actor, but...

This week's gonzo teen nightmare Spring Breakers is trumpeting the fact that two of its leads - Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez - traditionally play "good girls". But the whole "teen idol gone bad" strategy is a longstanding Hollywood tradition aimed to help transition pigeonholed teen stars into "serious" actors.
Here are a few fellas who tried the tactic, to varying degrees of success.

Pitt: Once upon a time, Pitt envied Leonardo DiCaprio, who commanded Oscar-nominated biopics (The Aviator) and social dramas (Blood Diamond), while he, Pitt, handled movie-star movies like Troy. "'I want to play more of a man,'" Pitt once complained. Later, he said he realized he had to "live like a man." And so he did. Parenthood followed, as did a different kind of movie. On Tuesday, he was the face of...

Washington, Oct 31: Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, who have been best buddies since childhood, are making their first major movie together, a remake of 'The Great Gatsby'.
Maguire plays Nick Carraway and DiCaprio has taken on the role of mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby in the new version being directed by Baz Lehrmann in Sydney, Australia, Radaronline.com reported.
Sam Waterston and Robert Redford played the same roles in the 1974 adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's iconic 1925 novel.
The duo - who met while auditioning for the sitcom 'Parenthood' in 1990 - haven't starred together in a movie since 1995 when.

The scheduling madness has begun. San Diego Comic Con announced the entire programming schedule for Preview Night Wednesday July 21 and Thursday, July 22. As usual, the movie highlights are in Hall H where the line up is as follows: Megamind, Tron: Legacy, Battle: Los Angeles, Salt, Red, The Expendables and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Plus, can you say J.J. Abrams and Joss Whedon together?
But there is so much going on outside of Hall H too. DC Comics is celebrating their 75th anniversary with a panel, the cast of Dexter will be in the house, Bruce Campbell will talk Burn Notice not to mention the infamous Masters of the Web panel which is surely of interest to anyone who reads sites like ours and the world premiere of The Lost Boys: The Thirst. Hit the jump for what I think is worth your time on Thursday, July 22nd at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Round and round we go on the rumor wheel. After a really scary report this morning citing all kinds of trouble on the production of Scream 4, a bit more light has been shed on the whole Ehren Kruger replacing Kevin Williamson as writer aspect of things.
Shock Till You Drop nailed down a few more details from their sources:
"Yes, Ehren Kruger has been brought in to do a bit of polishing. But no, Williamson isn't "out" by any means. As you know, he's also working hard on the second season of Vampire Diaries for the CW. While he's away fulfilling his commitments on that show, the production called upon Kruger to assist on the script. Some chatter about Lauren Graham's departure has made it sound like she wasn't thrilled with the sequel, however, it was another case of production scheduling and she's off to work on Parenthood.

Scream 4 has just killed off a major player. Zap2It reports that “significant script changes have created some tension on the set” and that screenwriter/series co-creator Kevin Williamson has left the project. This follows the news that Lauren Graham dropped out after her role was reduced to almost nothing and Hayden Panettiere’s is “beyond frustrated” that her part was “dumbed down significantly.” In an attempt to stop the bleeding, screenwriter Ehren Kruger has come on board to handle the script. Kruger penned the screenplay for Scream 3 and most recently wrote the script for Transformers 3 (he was also a co-writer on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen).
Williamson is reportedly out of the project entirely so I wouldn’t count on his continued participation for Scream 5 and Scream 6, which he was working on according to Wes Craven. Hit the jump for a list of people still involved with Scream 4,...

The rights for the Terminator franchise are headed for an auction as the Halcyon Company who owns them files for Chapter 11.
I hinted this would happen last month, but now Halcyon is serious about unloading its largest asset by January 2010. The company purchased the rights in 2007 for $25-30 million before churning out a sequel that made $380 million worldwide. An exec with Fti Capital Advisers claims the property is worth $60-70 million now. Maybe those suits didn’t see Terminator Salvation.
Sony is definitely interested, especially considering their two biggest franchises are Men in Black and Spider-Man, both of which are already headed for a third and fourth. Summit Entertainment is also considering it, what with all the Twilight money they have to throw around these days. Plus the rest of the major studios considering the potential.
The winner would get the whole Terminator bundle: future movies, the “Sarah Connor Chronicles...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind Joss Whedon wants the Terminator franchise and he's willing to pay his hard earned cash right now for the franchise. Does $10,000 sound like too much?
Whedon wrote a tongue-in-cheek post on the Whedonesque forum detailing his vision for Terminator. Are you ready?
"I am Joss Whedon, the mastermind behind Titan A.E., Parenthood (not the movie) (or the new series) (or the one where 'hood' was capitalized 'cause it was a pun), and myriad other legendary tales. I have heard through the 'grapevine' that the Terminator franchise is for sale, and I am prepared to make a pre-emptive bid Right Now to wrap this dealio up. This is not a joke, this is not a scam, this is not available on TV. I will write a check Today for $10,000, and viola! Terminator off your hands.
"No, you didn't miscount. That's four -- Four! -- zeroes after that one.

Amidst reports about the rights of the "Terminator" franchise being up for auction surfaced, TV series creator Joss Whedon penned an open letter to the franchise owners, offering $10,000 for the rights. While some deemed his letter hilarious, the man behind "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Dollhouse" told Entertainment Weekly he is not just being funny.
"Here's the thing: It's not a slam on The Terminator. I love The Terminator. That part's totally true," the 45-year-old explained his grounds. "I was thinking to myself, 'Not since they auctioned off frames from The Little Mermaid have I wished I had more money this much. So you know what, never hurts to ask.' I loved the movies, even the later movies."
"I loved the mythology. I loved the TV show [Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles] - like, really loved. Not for pretend. And not just because of [star] Summer [Glau]," he went on. "But mostly, it's just me being a dumb-ass,...

In case you haven't heard, the rights to the Terminator franchise are once again going to be up for grabs [1] when they are auctioned off later this month, and a number of studios are said to be interested including Sony, Summit Entertainment and Media Rights Capital. It's unclear what this will mean for the future of the franchise, but apparently big media corporations aren't the only ones hoping to get a chance to repackage and resell the robot apocalypse. Believe it or not, there are a few other interested parties out there, including one... Joss Whedon? In a somewhat humourous and irreverent open letter posted on Whedonesque [2] and Deadline Hollywood [3], the man behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly and Dollhouse offers up a tidy sum of $10,000 for the franchise, and proceeds to give some of his ideas about what to do with it. As expected, there is at least one...

That Joss Whedon is a funny guy and one heck of a writer. His shows, including Firefly, Buffy, Angel and Dollhouse, are among the most favored by fans and, of course, we love his work here at The Flickcast. Now, with the Terminator franchise apparently up for sale (again) Whedon has made a modest proposal of his own to buy the entire thing in an open letter to those selling the franchise.
Among the items covered in this open letter are how much he offers for the franchise and what he would do with it if he got it. Its a funny and, in some cases, inspirational attempt at humor from a man who knows how to bring the funny.
Although, maybe he’s serious and thinks he would do a good job with the franchise? And, thinking about it a bit more myself, I think he would do a great job with Terminator also.

If you haven't heard yet, the rights to the Terminator franchise are going up for auction later this month. The Financial Times reports that The Halcyon Co. is selling off the entire rights to the franchise, which will "give the buyer the ability to make new Terminator films, TV programmes and other spin-offs that build on the popularity of the franchise." Sounds like a hell of a deal. It will reportedly sell for more than $60 million, which is what the Tmnt franchise sold for recently. But that's not the best part. Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood published an open letter from Joss Whedon to the owners of the rights and it's just hilarious. It's better to read the letter in its entirety on Deadline Hollywood, but I've pulled some of the best parts: Dear Sirs/Ma'ams, I am Joss Whedon, the mastermind behind Titan A.E., Parenthood (not the movie) (or...

Earlier today we reported that this week the rights for the “Terminator” were up for auction. Now self-proclaimed movie-mogul, the mastermind behind such films as “Titan A.E.”, “Parenthood” (not the movie or the new TV series), and “Alien Resurrection” (although he really wishes you wouldn’t credit him for that), is interested in buying the “Terminator” rights for…Ten Thousand Dollars! [Whedon raises pinky to his lips]. Hit the jump to read Mr. Whedon’s open letter about why he thinks he could re-invigorate the franchise (one idea: more porn).
In an open letter sent to Deadline.com, Joss Whedon makes his case for what he would do for the “Terminator” franchise that no other studio will go because they’re too scared and too sane.
