Manhunter, the serial killer thriller by Michael Mann, is streaming for free on both Pluto TV here and on Prime Video here, and it will be moving to Tubi on March 31. Fans of the thriller genre know that this is not only one of the best thrillers of the '80s, but of all time, and introduced many people to the iconic character, Hannibal 'The Cannibal' Lecter. Other titles arriving on Tubi at the end of the month include the Michael Shannon masterpiece Take Shelter, Sarah Polley's recent acclaimed drama Women Talking, and the Best Picture winner The Hurt Locker, among others.

Characters are likely going to die on Harley Quinn. The only ones who are safe from death at this point are Harley, Poison Ivy, and Bane - and even the last two may not be. But the idea of anyone being on the chopping block is part of what makes this show amazing. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s someone you didn’t want to go. In the previous episode, Frank the Plant was that someone.
Although Frank wasn't one of the show's central characters, he was comic relief. However, during the second episode of the season, “Back to School”, we see that he was Ivy’s first creation and he was created before Pamela Isley got superpowers. Frank was her baby. If that wasn’t sad enough, Frank’s last words were calling Ivy mom.

The following contains spoilers for Harley Quinn Season 5, now streaming on Max.
The Max animated series Harley Quinn has been an impressive offering from DC Studios. It follows Harley's (Kaley Cuoco) emancipation from the Joker, but avoids retreading the same narrative beats from the Bruce Timm and Paul Dini era. The show also avoids retreading what Margot Robbie already did on the big screen as the live-action version of the antiheroine.
This is achieved by focusing more on Harley and Poison Ivy embarking on a romance. The show also gives Harley her own group of friends who have their own stories to tell. Many viewers are somewhat surprised the series is still around as James Gunn forges a new Dcu vision, including for animation. Still, Harley Quinn is now in its fifth season,...

Rodney Dangerfield’s whole act is predicated on the idea that he gets no respect, which obviously wasn’t true. Dangerfield was a beloved comedian, a successful film actor and a one-time board game star.
But Dangerfield’s comedy catchphrase became depressingly accurate during his dealings with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 1994, the Back to School star applied to become a member of the Academy, after his name was submitted by actor and friend Leonard Gaines. When others expressed surprise at the idea of making Dangerfield a member of the Academy, Gaines believed that he was “doing the Academy a favor” by inviting a huge star like Dangerfield.
As the L.A. Times pointed out at the time, Dangerfield met the criteria to join, with “major parts in at least three theatrical releases to his credit.” He also presented an award at the 1987 Oscars and killed.

Now that Harley and Ivy are trapped by Brainiac, it’s time for us to take a breather. After all, not everyone knows the Brainiac backstory or origin, so Harley Quinn is ready to Quinn-ify the plot. Using the show’s usual bluster, we are treated to the Brainiac backstory to set up the rest of the season. Along the way, some of the mystery is unraveled.
Season 5 – Episode 4 The Recap
In cyberspace, we follow an array of wires and electrical connections that build out Harley Quinn‘s Brainiac (Stephen Fry). Over a montage, we see his family doing chores, random experiments, and his iconic ship. After what would traditionally be the opening title card of Harley Quinn, we instead get “Brainiac: The Origin of.”

The fallout of Ivy’s actions continues in “Back to School.” While she tried to kill off her former professor, lover and attempted murderer, Ivy might have made him into a far more powerful monster. The news of Jason Woodrue’s death spreads fast, forcing Harley to reckon with her partner’s dishonesty. Harley Quinn works best when it frames conflicts through the Harley/Ivy relationship, and “Back to School” is a perfect example of its value. Plus, we get the overly theatrical Clayface back, a huge win for comedy in general.
Harley Quinn – “Back to School” – The Recap
Like other members of Harley’s former crew, Clayface (Alan Tudyk) has made his way over to Metropolis. He performs his one-man-show in the Metropolis Theater in front of a surprisingly thin crowd (given the success of his Vegas show). In his show, Clayface plays an Italian man who died 20 years before Pearl Harbor.

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for 'Harley Quinn' Season 5.Harley Quinn Season 5 may be off to a hilarious start in Metropolis, but this week's episode, "Back to School," proves a new city doesn't automatically put an end to old pains. After previously exploring Ivy's (Lake Bell) backstory in Arkham Asylum with Harley (Kaley Cuoco), the latest installment in the hit DC series revisits the incident that created the eco-friendly supervillain when Ivy visits Lena Luthor's (Aisha Taylor) Green Initiative. Taken by surprise when she's introduced to her partner in the project, Dr. Jason Woodrue (John Slattery), a series of flashbacks subsequently explores the pair's history, and the episode gradually unveils a backstory for Ivy that is even more heartbreaking than it previously seemed.

Thanks to his performance as Johnny Lawrence in "The Karate Kid," William "Billy" Zabka's appearance exemplifies the archetype of all 1980s movie bullies. Suppose you close your eyes and think of the type of guy who would pester the charming underdog of an '80s teen movie. In that case, he's probably a tall, beefy blonde whose parents definitely had a photo of Ronald Reagan hanging above the TV in their living room. It's not Zabka's fault that he became the blueprint for this character type, but when looking at the landscape of high school movies from the decade, it certainly seems like every casting director was looking for "a Billy Zabka type." In some instances, that meant straight-up hiring him.
Zabka's follow-up to his breakout role in "The Karate Kid" is an oft-forgotten teen comedy directed by Lisa Gottlieb called "Just One of the Guys." A loose adaptation of William Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night,...

Long before Denzel Washington played the quietly lethal Robert McCall in the "Equalizer" movies, Edward Woodward portrayed the character on the original CBS TV series. "The Equalizer" aired on the network from 1985 to 1989 and starred Woodward as the retired intelligence agent who uses his skills to help bring justice to those who have been wronged in their day to day lives.
It's a remarkably durable formula that has not only birthed three Denzel-led movies (with fourth and fifth "Equalizer" movies already confirmed), but also a reboot series that stars Queen Latifah and which has run for five full seasons already. Each iteration of this franchise has brought something new to the table, but none of them could have existed without the original series from co-creators Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim.

Comic book movies can often be quite contentious when it comes to casting, with fan uproar frequently being unleashed on up-and-coming superhero actors despite only sometimes being justified. The reception of a casting announcement can have big implications on the success of a given comic book movie, sometimes riding on a single amazing superhero casting. Public outcry from fans can sometimes be indicative of a poor upcoming performance, but in many cases, hesitations about certain actors stepping into comic book roles end up being completely unfounded.
Actors can be considered unfit for superhero roles for a variety of different reasons. Some casting choices could see actors playing against type, or entering a big-budget superhero film despite little to no experience in blockbusters or action movies. Regardless of whether or not their gambles end up paying off, movie studios often take huge risks with controversial casting decisions for their valuable comic book IPs.

With many decades having passed since the 1983 release of John Carpenter's Christine, it's safe to say that the movie's cast has done a lot since then. Carpenter's horror film was written by Bill Phillips, based on Stephen King's horror novel of the same name. It follows a teenage nerd named Arnie Cunningham, who becomes obsessed with his new car, the titular Christine. Like the author's other works, the story takes a dark turn, with Christine revealed to be one of Stephen King's many killer cars prevalent in his novels and short stories.
Given its focus on teenage characters, the film adaptation starred a number of young actors who were just starting out in their careers, including Alexandra Paul, John Stockwell, and Kelly Preston. While relative unknowns in 1983, they've mostly gone on to have long careers in the many years since Christine's premiere, becoming much bigger names than they...

Abbott Elementary is officially back with its fourth season, and the premiere exposes a harsh but critical reality about Janine and Gregory's romantic relationship. Abbott Elementary season 4 is shaping up to be an exciting season with new storylines, a crossover with It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and Abbott Elementary's returning cast. One of the most exciting aspects involves Gregory and Janine's relationship status, especially given their passionate kiss at the end of season 3. Abbott Elementary season 4, episode 1, "Back to School," confirmed that Gregory and Janine are now dating, a major relief considering the slow-burn nature of their relationship.
However, Gregory and Janine's recently changed relationship status introduces a serious concern. Sometimes, a show can go downhill after the central couple gets together, usually because the narrative switches gears and focuses entirely on romance. This prospect is worrying for the show. While Janine and Gregory are the best couple in...

The first episode of Abbott Elementary season 4 is titled "Back to School," and the staff are definitely going to have their hands full based on the trailer! As always, the school is very underfunded, and the hilarious trailer starts with Melissa and Barbara asking Principal Ava for books and paper towels for their classrooms. You know, basic necessities. But we know these poor guys have to work with what they've got. And of course Ava has a sarcastic response in return.
Jacob seems to have another mystery enemy other than Mr. Morton, the class pets may not be as great as they sound (the teachers asked for money for after school programs and got this instead), there's a visit from Hr, and ringworm is going around. A lockdown might be in store based on the video with Ava all suited up.
But we know this group of educators is going...

Any kid who ever dreamed of striding the boards, meticulously prepping for their glamorous on-camera close-up, or adorning the walls of teenagers all over the world as the most fetching heartthrob on the planet, did not entertain for a second that steady work as less-than-studly screen presence like M Emmet Walsh could be its own gloriously gruff reward. If you were born with a face that looked like it went 12 rounds with Sonny Liston before exiting the birth canal, or walked in heels like they were a pair of Carhartts, you're probably destined to be a working stiff like the rest of us for the remainder of your life.
And there is dignity in this. There is meaning. And not to get your hopes up too high, but if you can strut across the stage like you were born to it, hold the gaze of a camera, or fire off one-liners with buffoonish aplomb,...

Robert Downey Jr. is currently at the peak of Hollywood fame but he had a humble beginning in the industry. He kickstarted his career on Broadway as a teen actor and actively pursued a mainstream film role since 1983. His first lead role came only in 1987 with the movie The Pick-up Artist. During this period, he became part of the new, younger cast hired for Saturday Night Live in 1985.

While SNL is a career starter for many talented artists, Downey Jr.’s appearance in the show is not something that often comes up in discussions. It is because that ‘Downey Jr. season’ was one of the worst seasons of the show. Most of the cast, including the Iron Man actor, was replaced after that season.

Inquiring minds like Joe Rogan’s want to know: How does Adam Sandler come up with the ideas for all of his movies? On this week’s Joe Rogan Experience podcast, he asked if Sandler started with a character? A premise? What was the silly secret behind all those blockbusters?
The Sandman didn’t have a definitive answer, but sometimes he just knew he had a winner on his hands. “Billy Madison, I remember I thought, ‘Oh, this could be great. A grown-up who does elementary school again. And that's a great idea — I get to be goofy, get to bully these little kids, then all of a sudden connect with these kids and have fun growing up again.”

There was only one problem in Sandler’s mind. “Part of my head was like, well, Rodney (Dangerfield) did Back to School already. So everyone’s gonna say, I just ripped off Back to School.

Sam Morril is pumped about his new special, You’ve Changed, which debuts on Prime Video today. There’s only one problem: Scaling the top of the comedy mountain with a streaming special just means the wry Morril has to prepare more tour material “again and again, til I die.”
Morril, one of the only comics alive to warm up an audience for Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, recently talked to Cracked about his childhood comedy heroes, the importance of trust in stand-up and the art of telling an edgy joke.
“As a really young kid, probably like in kindergarten, I realized I could do armpit farts. Oh my God, I was crushing. No one else could do them. And I was doing slow ones and fast ones. It was definitely an intro to comedy.”

Very sad news today as it’s been reported that M. Emmet Walsh has died at the age of 88. No matter the size of the role, the prolific character actor always made a unique impression throughout his long career, which spanned six decades.
M. Emmet Walsh is best known for playing Bryant in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, the captain of the Los Angeles Police Department who tasks Deckard with tracking down the replicants at the beginning of the film. He told THR that the cast and crew weren’t quite sure what the make of the movie when they first saw it. “I don’t know if I really understood what in the hell it was all about,” Walsh said. “We all sat there and it ended. And nothing. We didn’t know what to say or to think or do! We didn’t know what in the hell we had done!

M. Emmet Walsh, a veteran character actor who appeared in more than 150 films including “Blade Runner,” “Blood Simple” and “Knives Out” and played Dermot Mulroney’s dad in “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” has died.
His manager Sandy Joseph confirmed that he died Tuesday in Vermont. He was 88.
In Ridley Scott’s 1982 “Blade Runner,” Walsh was Harrison Ford’s LAPD boss, while he played the vicious private detective Loren Visser in the Coen brothers’ directing debut “Blood Simple.” Wearing a sickly yellow suit, Pauline Kael said he was the film’s “only colorful performer. He lays on the loathsomeness, but he gives it a little twirl — a sportiness.”
His other roles included the corrupt sheriff in the 1986 horror film “Critters” and a small role as a security guard in “Knives Out.”

Beth Peters, an actor and singer who had a recurring role on “General Hospital,” died on March 14 in central Florida after a short illness. She was 92.
In the early 1980s, Peters appeared in eight episodes of the popular ABC soap opera as the character Mrs. Whitaker. In an obituary for Peters provided to Variety by her son, her character description reads, “The motherly Mrs. Whitaker dispensed country wisdom from her farm kitchen in Beecher’s Corners, serving as a surrogate mother to Laura Spencer, played by Genie Francis, as the teenager’s story arc saw her fall in love with Luke Spencer, portrayed by Anthony Geary.”
Peters started her acting and singing career as a teenager in coastal New Jersey. In 1955, she appeared on Broadway for the first time as an extra for the play “Inherit the Wind,” later taking on the role of Mrs. Brady in the last months of the show’s production.

It was, to paraphrase something a giant purple guy once said, inevitable. During the 96th Academy Awards ceremony, Robert Downey Jr. won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Admiral Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer." Although the fact that Downey Jr. has retained a relatively youthful appearance thanks to his pervasive charm and wry magnetism means that he doesn't quite feel like an "elder statesman" of the acting world, the actor has nonetheless enjoyed a lengthy 40+ year career in the motion picture business, and most of that career has seen him be continually praised by critics and fans alike as being one of the best actors working in film. With all of that in mind, his finally being awarded an Oscar feels like something that's been a very long time coming.

Don’t call it a career win because few would argue that Robert Downey, Jr. didn’t deliver one of his best performances ever as Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.” That immense talent was rewarded with his first Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category at the 96th Academy Awards. One of the most popular actors of the past two decades and a three-time Oscar nominee overall, Downey, Jr. earned his first nomination 30 years ago for “Chaplin.”

John Carpenter's "Escape From New York" is a cult classic for a reason — it rules. Released in 1981, "Escape From New York" is a down-and-dirty sci-fi action pic in which New York City has become a giant maximum security prison. As bad luck would have it, an attempted hijacking of Air Force One forces the President (Donald Pleasence) to eject from the plane in an escape pod. Guess where he ends up? Yep — NYC, baby! The Big Apple! The militarized government wants to save the President and retrieve a top-secret briefcase he has cuffed to his wrist, but New York is too dangerous to simply enter for your average rescue mission. So the powers-that-be strike upon a simple plan: they force criminal Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) into doing the job.

It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.

With a passion for the field as a child, Stern’s climb to the top of the radio world truly began in the ‘80s. And so as his markets grew and his written word topped the charts – but long before his first $500 million contract with Sirius – it was time for Stern to enter the movie business…with something a little more commercially viable than Butt Bongo Fiesta.

Ex-Marine, former boxer, consummate ruffian, beloved character actor, and Academy Award nominee Burt Young has passed away, confirmed The New York Times. He was 83 years old. With a career spanning over five decades, Young's acting resume included over 160 roles, with memorable performances in films like "Chinatown," "Once Upon a Time in America," and "Back to School." Trained by the legendary Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio in New York City, Young made a career playing Hollywood tough guys, street-smart cops, relatable working men, and as an Italian-American — of course — a mob boss.
However, it's his role as Rocky Balboa's brother-in-law and best friend Paulie Pennino in the "Rocky" film series that made him a household name and earned him the coveted Oscar nomination. The role allowed Young to not only shine as a complex, gifted performer but also bring his real-life experience as a professional boxer to the screen.

Burt Young, the actor best known for playing Paulie in Rocky, died October 8th in Los Angeles, his daughter confirmed to The New York Times. He was 83 years old.
From Roman Polanski’s Chinatown to The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight, Young — born on April 30th, 1940 in Queens — was known for imbuing fierce characters with a sense of humanity and realism. He entered the Marines as a teenager, and started boxing while in the service. He went on to pursue the sport professionally before, by happenstance, meeting the celebrated acting teacher Lee Strasberg, who he later studied with.

Burt Young, a former boxer who was in Sylvester Stallone’s corner as his brother-in-law Paulie in the six Rocky films and received a supporting actor Oscar nomination for his turn in the original, has died. He was 83.

Some unfortunate news to report, folks. Burt Young, the legendary character actor who co-starred with JoBlo’s beloved Sylvester Stallone in Rocky, is dead at 83. Deadline was the first to report the news. Young famously played Rocky’s brother-in-law Paulie, Adrian’s (Talia Shire) brother, a wannabe tough guy who stays in Rocky’s corner despite everything. Young was nominated for an Oscar for the original film, and indeed, Paulie was a complex character. In the first film, he’s Adrian’s abusive older brother.
