The film was one of Cannon's strongest performing movies at the box office in 1986. However it was a relative disappointment compared to other Norris films, earning a little less than $12 million. Cannon Films went into financial receivership soon afterwards.
El Coyote is seen reading the Marvel Comic Psi-Force #1 from the short-lived New Universe line. Cannon and Marvel were trying to make a Spider-Man film at the time. Marvel would also publish 4 issues of Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos soon after the release of this film.
John Rhys-Davies appeared in another action comedy adventure flick about treasure hunters from The Cannon Group, Inc., King Solomon's Mines (1985) (1985).
Filming took place in Mexico in June,1986.
