Here we are with another case of “Wait, that was a book first?” Although, having watched the movie for the first time and seeing its reputation online, this is also a case of “Wait, that was a movie?” William Friedkin was a master filmmaker and although most of his stone-cold classics happened before 1990, he proved he still had plenty in the tank with things like The Hunted and Bug to name a couple. He was a replacement director which seems surreal considering his talents and he was one of 3 credited writers on a little remembered horror movie adaptation from 1990. The Guardian (watch it Here) is based on The Nanny from 1987 and it’s a strange pairing of source material and finished product. Both pieces of media are mostly slept on in their respective fields but how close did Friedkin and the other writers come to matching the book? Always do...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power season 2.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has seemingly already provided the basis of Sauron's war in season 2, tied to Mithril and the crafting of the remaining rings of power. The Rings of Power season 1 ended with the crafting of the three elvish rings, alongside the reveal that Halbrand was in fact Sauron in disguise. Another plot line of season 1 that was a retcon of Tolkien's original works involved Mithril, the substance being mined beneath the Misty Mountains by the dwarves of Durin.
The main way in which the Mithril ties to the overall story, thus making Khazad-dûm vital to The Rings of Power, is by making the mineral intrinsic to the forging of the Rings of Power. At least in the case of the elven rings, Mithril was said to contain the light of a lost Silmaril,...

Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has brought us all back to the fabled and splendid-looking world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. It is a continent populated with diverse living species and breathtaking locations. One of its most secretive yet fiercely loyal creatures are the dwarves and one of its most breathtaking locations is the subterranean kingdom of Khazad-dûm – home to Durin’s Folk. The big-budget Prime Video series offers us a look at Khazad-dûm as we had never seen before. In Peter Jackson’s trilogy, the great dwarven city had fallen to ruin and had been renamed Moria, however, in the Rings of Power, Khazad-dûm is still at the height of its splendor and Owain Arthur and Sophia Nomvete offer us an insight into their dwarven way of life.

It also follows his father Victor Dantas, who joined the police intelligence service as a teen. The journey of father and son living opposite lives, often mirroring and complementing each other, both in situations which blur the lines between right & wrong. Starring with Gabriel Leone...

I remember seeing the 1978 classic, Dawn of the Dead, in the mid-90s. It was one of the first horror movies I ever really fell in love with, and helped turn me into a fully fledged horror fan. George A. Romero’s masterpiece has become an iconic picture in the history of cinema, and one of the most beloved horror films of all time. While it wasn’t the first zombie movie, it certainly changed the landscape of what a zombie movie could be. From the location to the music to the scenes of gore, Dawn of the Dead is absolutely and undeniably great.
We all know what the film is all about. It’s the tale of a group of survivors holding up in...

Conspiracao, Brazil’s multi-Emmy nominated powerhouse indie, is poised to make “Pas de Deux,” a drama series about Bethania Gomes, the first Brazilian prima ballerina of the Harlem Dance Theatre and a current dance instructor there.
Story pivots around the relationship and lives of Gomes and her mother Maria Beatriz Nascimento, a controversial historian and forerunner of the Black feminist movement of ‘70s Brazil who was killed for intervening in a friend’s domestic dispute.
The series could not be more timely given the Black Rights Matter movement that begun in the U.S. and sparked similar protests across the globe.
“Brazil is still very racist even though Blacks comprise around 50% of our population,” said Juliana Capelini, Conspiracao’s Kids & Family executive director who serves as executive producer along with the company’s head of international, Ramona Bakker. It is telling that the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theater Ballet has...

CanWest bets on reality TV during strike
TORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster CanWest Global Communications on Thursday said it hopes that airing popular U.S. reality series mid-season will offset the unfolding fallout from the Hollywood writers strike.
CanWest, which operates two national TV networks, confirmed it "will be affected" by the ongoing writers/studio standoff.
Winnipeg, Manitoba-based CanWest added that the impact "should be reduced by the launch of new reality-based shows in the new year," including the latest CBS Survivor installment and NBC's The Celebrity Apprentice. It also hopes to see the strike's impact softened by CBS airing Big Brother three nights a week.
The Canadian broadcaster also is looking to offset the negative impact on viewership from increased reruns during the WGA strike by airing new episodes of such popular Fox series as House, Prison Break, The Simpsons and Bones.
CanWest on Thursday posted a lower fiscal first-quarter profit because of higher interest costs, restructuring expenses and foreign currency swap losses.
Earnings for the three months ending Nov. 30 came to CAN$40.7 million ($40.2 million), compared with a profit of CAN$66.4 million in 2007.
