Michael Villella, the actor known for playing the serial killer Russ Thorn in the cult classic “The Slumber Party Massacre,” has died. He was 84.
Villella’s death was announced Saturday through a statement on his Facebook page: “Michael Pasquale Villella has left this world, may he rest in peace. May God welcome Michael with open arms and bring him into heaven.”
His daughter, Chloe Villella, also confirmed the news on social media. A cause of death was not disclosed.
Villella made his onscreen debut as the drill-wielding killer in 1982’s “The Slumber Party Massacre,” also starring Michelle Michaels and Robin Stille. The film, directed by Amy Holden Jones and written by Rita Mae Brown, was originally meant to be a parody of the slasher genre but ultimately became a straight horror movie.

The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.
Nightbreed: The Director’s Cut
The sophomore directorial effort from master of horror Clive Barker, Nightbreed is by no means an obscurity among genre fans, but some may not be familiar with the director’s cut, which runs 20 minutes longer than the original version and has been reworked to better reflect Barker’s original vision. While it was virtually impossible to live up to the subversive heights of Hellraiser, Nightbreed is an admirable, if uneven, effort in its own right. Based on his 1988 novella Cabal, Barker incorporates elements of fantasy, monster movies, psychological thrillers, and slashers, but at its core Nightbreed is a love story.

‘We Might Hurt Each Other’ – ‘Friday the 13th’-Inspired Slasher Hits Screambox *Tomorrow*! [Trailer]
Straight out of the Chattanooga premiere, Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting’s throwback slasher We Might Hurt Each Other (formerly Pensive) arrives on our Screambox streaming platform tomorrow!
The bloody Lithuanian teen horror was directed by Jonas Trukanas and stars Gabija Bargailaite (Pilgrims) and calls back to slasher classics like Friday the 13th.
Inspired by local legends, Pensive follows a group of privileged high school classmates. After these classmates destroy a set of life-size wooden statues during a wild graduation party, a mysterious masked killer begins picking the group off one by one.
Gory and glorious, Pensive is a gritty throwback to the 80s and the heyday of slasher cinema. Calling back to Friday the 13th, the filmmakers took what was great about the era and give it a refreshing lift with the infusion of Eastern European folklore. Check out the trailer below.
Other July highlights include The Exorcist writer William Peter Blatty...

Robert Schwartzman is part of one of Hollywood’s great filmmaking dynasties, but when he ventured into directing himself, he discovered that the world of distribution for up-and-coming filmmakers was broken.
The multihyphenate, who is Francis Ford Coppola’s nephew, has acted in movies like “The Princess Diaries” — where he played Anne Hathaway’s love interest Michael Moscovitz in what became her breakout movie — and has fronted the rock band Rooney since 1999. In recent years, however, Schwartzman has become more ensconced in the family business, directing indie features such as “The Unicorn,” “Dreamland” and “The Argument.”
“I felt a frustration that certain films were being overlooked in the market, like when you don’t get into a film festival, and the movie doesn’t make the cut sometimes,” Schwartzman tells Variety. “It’s pretty emotionally devastating for a filmmaker to feel that rejection.”
He continues: “You want to put [the film] in...

Case-heavy installments are often when Chicago P.D. is at its best.
One hour can elicit a full range of emotions when you're following along on a difficult case, rooting for the crew to capture the most heinous individual. And much of Chicago Pd Season 9 Episode 4 focused on that.
However, it also displayed Hailey cracking and those shocking but predictable final moments when Halstead learned the truth and reacted passionately.
It's always a treat when the series mixes and matches unit members for diversity's sake, breaking up the monotony of the same partnerships.
While a questionable romantic and sexual choice, Hailey and Ruzek have always made a solid team, so when they picked up the case at that urban legend Death House that steals souls, it felt as if we were on the path toward something different.
We also got Hailey and Burgess making the hospital run to talk to sweet Christian,...

You know, it wasn’t until the release of Detroit Rock City that I realised that a) Adam Rifkin and Rif Coogan are one in the same; and b) just how many of Rifkin’s films I considered amongst my favourites at that time: Never on Tuesday, The Dark Backward, The Chase and, of course, Psycho Cop Returns. Mainly because they were films I remember renting on video (you couldn’t escape trailers for The Dark Backward back in the VHS era) and seeing on Sky’s movie channels in the days when you could be guaranteed to find an “obscure” film screening as filler between their big-name flicks!

Well this years Frightfest is over and I’ve had a week to digest everything – it’s safe to say this year was… interesting. The move from the Empire to Vue West End, whilst not without the odd teething problem, was a success. Yes, the atmosphere had changed a little, at least in terms of experiencing a film with hundreds of people instead of thousands, but the positives of the move truly outweighed any negatives. My personal positive? The wide range of films on show this year and that fact there was No problems getting into the Discovery Screens this year – which in my own case, was where I saw some of the best films of the festival.
Speaking of films, whilst there was no outstanding, totally blown me away, movie this year, there overall standard was Very high, with only one real dud of the entire week (and I...

Odd List Ryan Lambie 6 Nov 2013 - 06:50
From random films with altered names to unrelated storylines, we take a look at 15 incredibly tenuous horror and sci-fi film sequels...
The profit-driven nature of filmmaking usually means that, if a movie's a hit, sequels follow. And it's sometimes the case that, particularly in the realm of low-budget sci-fi and horror, those sequels are trotted out in a rush, or don't have anything to do with the film they're following.
This isn't to say that the sequels on this list are necessarily bad - it's a proper mixed bag of the great, the mediocre and the downright awful - but in each instance, these sequels have only vague links to their predecessors, or worse still, they're entirely different films rebranded to fit an existing franchise.
Our list is by no means definitive - rather, we've chosen a collection of films that we find the most memorable.

For the girls, it is a battle to the death because only the innocent can kill him. Paying the rent has never been so deadly.
Let me just check the date… This is 2013 right?
Had to check as watching 4 Dead Girls: The Soul Taker took me right back to the late 80s/early 90s and the types of films that filled the shelves of video stores during that time. Four...

I must start off by saying that I was grossly disappointed with this film. Not that I had high expectations in the first place, but preliminary elements such as being a mid-80s B-horror flick with the title it possesses, as well as having a director at the helm who had a hand in the original sub-genre film of its type, Slumber Party Massacre, its quite a long-shot from living up to those expectations. Sorority House Massacre (1986) can be consi…...

*here be minor spoilers. Director/writer: Justin Russell. Cast: Brittany Belland, Tiffany Arnold, Riana Ballo, John Bloom, Jessica Cameron, Jason Jay Crabtree, and Ali Ferda. There have been many films in the past that involve serial killers and sororities. From Black Christmas (1974) to The House on Sorority Row (1983) and even to The Sorority House Massacre (1986), there are sorority sisters living in fear of a nameless killer. Justin Russell's debut is reminiscent of all of these. However, The Sleeper is most similar to When a Stranger Calls (1979). You just never know were the killer is in these films. That killer brandishes a smallish looking claw hammer. He babbles into his rotary phone of "girls" and "coming to get you." The girls at the sorority house, to whom he is talking, take little interest. There is partying to do after all. Oblivious to his actions, the killer gets closer and closer to the sorority house.

We’ve seen slashers in hospitals, forests, and houses. But what about supermarkets? “Intruder” takes the slasher genre in the late 1980s to the grocery isles!
From the producers of “Evil Dead II”, we have a fairly original slasher that is much better than most of the slashers that came out around this time. By the time most slasher movies came out in the late 1980s they seemed to be sheer parodies of themselves. This is a must see for any gore guru and slasher fan in the horror genre. First released by Paramount on VHS, there are a few DVD copies available.
It is really strange for a slasher to be released around this time but I guess Raimi and Bruce Campbell wanted to keep their name in the news as actors and producers. This is Scott Spiegel’s directing debut, which isn’t terrible for a first shot.

Behind the scenes of The Ideal And you thought that the sorority pledges of the The Initiation or Sorority House Massacre had it tough! Or that school was hellish for the students in Cry_Wolf. These days, students now have to deal with a teacher who is suffering from murderous tendencies in "The Ideal" from director Wes Tomasz Ciesla and starring newcomer Dennis Brito along with Kristen Brancaccio and Ivan Perez.
In The Ideal, for Julia and Alexander it was just a high school summer job. It was the chance to earn money and work with eccentric, but popular history teacher, Mr. Zenidro. However, something else awaits them in the empty, yet mysterious school building. Mr. Zenidro leads them to reckon with the hidden past. As the past and present begin to blur together so does sanity and madness. What will Julia and Alexander learn as they struggle in the...

Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) You know how you have this sneaking suspicion in the back of your mind about the motives or intentions of a person? Now hasn't that same sneaking suspicion happened to you while watching a horror film? Admit it. Don't kid yourself. You know you have. Maybe Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) wanted her Bff to cancel that date for her in Halloween cause she's secretly a lesbian? Or how about Angela O' Neill in Sorority House Massacre. In an interview I did with her, she stated she refused to get naked for the film, but due to her not getting naked while all the other girls were shucking their clothes in front of her, that certainly created some of that same sex loving tension in the movie. Or you have the movies of late from David DeCoteau with the guys getting down to the briefs or boxer...

Seeing how the teen horror slasher "The Slumber Party Massacre", which starred Robin Stille and Michelle Michaels, was a big hit for New World Pictures, Roger Corman was looking to create that same success yet again after he developed Concorde Pictures. Thus was born Sorority House Massacre which also incorporated elements from the popular Halloween franchise. Sorority House Massacre continued on with the tradition of a female director (Carol Frank), and an ensemble of female leads including Wendy Martel, Pamela Ross and Nicole Rio. However, the standout was Angela O' Neill. While the others were appealing and created distinct personalities for each of their characters, Angela O' Neill had this almost ethereal like presence. She wasn't this big, flashy diva actress. She was a bit more on the quite and reserved side, but there was just something about her that made it so that her presence filled the screen and...

While chatting last night with friend and actress Eve Mauro (she of The Steam Experiment and Wicked Lake fame), this writer was tipped off to her upcoming feature Sorority Party Massacre, scheduled to shoot in and around Los Angeles and its surrounding environs this December and coming January.
Starring Mauro and prolific television actor Ed O'Ross, C. Thomas Howell (The Hitcher), Leslie Easterbrook (The Devil’s Rejects), Richard Moll (House), Ron Jeremy, Yvette Yates and Tom Downey, Sorority House Massacre was written by Chris W. Freeman and will be co-directed by him and Justin Jones.
Speaking with Freeman, who provided us the pictured key art of Mauro as ‘Brooklyn,’ he revealed of the film’s narrative, “In danger of losing his badge, a big city detective agrees to aid a bumbling, small town sheriff in a routine missing persons investigation only to discover that at least one girl has gone...

So who is Meghan Jones? She might not be a name genre fans are familiar with right off the bat, but if you dig those "The Slumber Party Massacre" or "Sorority House Massacre" or heck even "Hard to Die" type of films that came out in the 80's, then you need to start studying up on who this promising writer is. An admirable quality to the films that she co-wrote and co-produced with her hubby, Michael Hoffman Jr., including Spring Break Massacre and Sigma Die was an innate quality to pay homage to the era of those films without being too overly jokey jokey, but still retain a sense of humor that in essence recalled the era of the teen sex comedy and some of those USA Up All Night films, but still managing to keep slasher sensibilities intact. Her ability to weave different types of styles, genres and to...

Over here at Big Daddy Horror Reviews, we would like to extend a celebratory toast to producing, writing partners Meghan Jones and Michael Hoffman Jr., the team behind such immortal classics as Spring Break Massacre, Rot: Reunion of Terror and Sigma Die! We would like to wish you the best of luck with your upcoming nuptials in Las Vegas on Halloween night. The two have shown a knack for putting together films that are amusing little homages to the horror films of the 80's.
With Spring Break Massacre (starring Linnea Quigley and Reggie Bannister in their only on screen appearance together), they paid tribute with an amusingly clever little take on The Slumber Party Massacre. Rot: Reunion of Terror packed one heck of a wallop with a surprising twist ending as it paid homage to Prom Night with a dash of Happy Birthday To Me thrown in. And Sigma Die!
