Geraldo Rivera is taking partial accountability for the role he played in bolstering public suspicion that John and Patsy Ramsey were responsible for the 1996 murder of their 6-year-old daughter, JonBenét.
John and Rivera appeared live together, via Zoom, on Monday night for a NewsNation segment facilitated by host Chris Cuomo (below) following the Nov. 25 release of the three-part Netflix docuseries Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey. Episode two of Joe Berlinger’s docuseries revisited the memorable mock trial that played out on The Geraldo Rivera Show in 1997, where Rivera asked a volunteer jury of six men and women to “rule” on the likelihood that John and/or Patsy allegedly murdered their daughter. Testimonies pointed to what were deemed to be sexually suggestive photos and videos of JonBenét as unsubstantiated proof that she was an abused child, resulting in a mock verdict that found Patsy liable for her death.

Quick Links What Is The Manhattan Alien Abduction About? Old Grudges and Conflicts of Interest Strain Credulity in Netflix's Docuseries Why The Manhattan Project Is Polarizing, Explained
The Manhattan Alien Abduction debuted on October 30, 2024, instantly soaring atop Netflix's most-watched new TV shows. The docuseries retraces the time a woman named Linda Napolitano was allegedly abducted by aliens from her apartment window in 1989. Pushing back on Linda's testimony is renowned skeptic Carol Rainey, whose husband and paranormal investigator Budd Hopkins becomes consumed by Linda's case.
Despite shooting to the top of the Netflix TV charts upon its premiere, The Manhattan Alien Abduction has polarized viewers regarding Linda's account. Viewers either tend to side with Linda and believe her account or disbelieve her testimony and side with Carol. With zero persuasion toward the middle ground, it's worth wondering why such a show was made beyond reinforcing confirmation bias. More curious yet,...

Although Beverly Hills brothers Lyle and Eric Menendez didn’t get away with the murder of their mother and father, it was a perfect crime in one respect: it set the stage for the last three decades of our current media obsession with sensational true crime stories.
The twisting, turning saga of the patricidal siblings – who were convicted of the 1989 shotgun slaying of their parents, film executive Jose Menendez and his wife Kitty in 1996 after one of the most highly public trials of the 20th Century – is revisited in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series, “Monsters: The Lyle and Eric Menendez Story.”
And while the Netflix series has stirred controversy with its interpretation of events, that very contention serves as a potent reminder of just how deeply the brothers’ journey through the justice system dominated the cultural conversation of its time, and in doing so created an infrastructure built to effectively deliver all sorts of lurid,...

The best 90s talk shows were a mix of tabloid drama and informative content, with some shows focusing on relationships and family issues. Shows like The Jerry Springer Show and Geraldo pushed the boundaries of controversy with outrageous content and brawls. Other shows like Leeza and The Oprah Winfrey Show provided a more inspirational and informative angle, discussing important topics and featuring notable guests.

Geraldo Rivera’s 22-year run at Fox News appears to be coming to an end.
On Thursday afternoon, Rivera posted a video to his Twitter account filmed on a boat off the coast of Jones Beach in Long Island. In the video he told viewers, “I’ve been fired from The Five, and as a result of that I quit Fox.”
He added that he would elaborate on that decision on Fox & Friends on Friday morning.
Rivera said earlier this month that he was going to leave the 5 p.m. panel show, where he has been a regular panelist since last year. He had been expected to appear on Thursday’s episode.
“It’s been a great run and I appreciate having had the opportunity,” Rivera wrote at the time. “Being odd man out isn’t always easy. For the time being, I’m still Correspondent at Large.”

With his relationship with Fox News apparently souring, Geraldo Rivera is thinking about retirement, and said he will announce his next career move in a week on Twitter and “The Five,” the show he will exit next week.
Rivera posted on Twitter Friday that he had spoken to Brian Kilmeade on his Wabc radio show and said, “I am unsure about my next career move & will announce next Friday here on Twitter & Live on @TheFive whether I stay with Fox or do something else, with your support.”
The correspondent for the conservative news network, who was recruited by founder Roger Ailes in 2001, said June 30 will be his last appearance on the talk show.
While the post generated a few inevitable references to his ill-fated 1986 live excavation of Al Capone’s vault, most of the comments were positive.
Some followers suggested that the social media platform may be all the veteran journalist needs.

It’s been just a few hours since Steve Wilkos found out about the death of Jerry Springer and he’s still in shock that the man who changed his life is gone. While reflecting on Springer’s legacy, Wilkos tells Et that their get-together about a month ago now all makes sense. Wilkos says Springer was saying “goodbye” without officially saying goodbye.
Wilkos, a longtime fixture on “The Jerry Springer Show” as head of security before his own spinoff show, spoke to Et’s Kevin Frazier and recalled that fateful afternoon when he said Springer called him about getting together for cigars. The former Chicago police officer had just gotten done taping his show, “The Steve Wilkos Show” (now in its 15th season) and he was tired, but he couldn’t say no to the man who had such an impact on his life.

Jerry Springer, the former Cincinnati news anchor and mayor who came to preside over the controversial and extremely profitable talk show bearing his name, has died. He was 79.
According to NBC affiliate Wlwt, where he once worked as a news anchor, Springer died peacefully Thursday at his home in the Chicago suburbs.
“The Jerry Springer Show” began its multi-decade run in 1991 and, in 1998 at the height of its popularity, beat “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in the ratings, drawing 12 million viewers.
Like Geraldo Rivera, Springer signed on for a show that he thought seemed like the logical next step in his journalism career — a show not unlike “Donahue” that would take a serious look at a variety of important issues. But as with “Geraldo,” the pressure to score big in the ratings pretty quickly meant appealing to the lowest common denominator — Springer and his new producer, Richard Dominick, who’d worked at the Weekly World News,...

That being said, there are a few that stand out as being the best daytime talk shows of the '90s. What makes most of the shows so entertaining is the fact that they are very much a product of their time, presenting content that is highly offensive and completely out of left field by today's standards.

Geraldo Rivera said that he is considering running the open U.S. Senate in Ohio seat being vacated by Rob Portman.
He wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, “Pondering running for retiring @senrobportman seat in United States Senate. #GoBuckeyes.”
Of course, there is a big difference between saying you are considering running for office and actually filing the paperwork, doing the organizing and hiring staff.
Rivera told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he plans to travel the state on a listening tour in the coming weeks to get feedback. Rivera, 77, is a longtime TV personality and talk host, and has appeared frequently on Fox News shows like The Five. He also hosts the radio show Geraldo in Cleveland.
Although Rivera said that he is a friend of Donald Trump, he was highly critical of Trump’s actions following the election.

Bette Midler is still waiting on an apology.
The 71-year-old actress took to Twitter on Thursday to call out Geraldo Rivera for allegedly groping her in the early '70s.
"Tomorrow is my birthday. I feel like this video was a gift from the universe to me," she tweeted alongside a clip from a 1991 interview with Barbara Walters. "Geraldo may have apologized for his tweets supporting Matt Lauer, but he has yet to apologize for this. #MeToo."
Rivera apologized on Wednesday afternoon after tweeting that sexual harassment allegations should me made in a timely fashion, require corroboration and that financial settlements push victims to be motivated by "more than justice."
In Midler's 1991 sit-down with Walters, the actress claimed that she was sexually assaulted by Rivera and his producer before an interview.

Rachel Maddow’s surprise announcement Tuesday night that she would be broadcasting portions of President Donald Trump‘s tax returns created a frenzy on social media.
But by the time The Rachel Maddow Show aired, reaction was mixed. Many liberals were disappointed that Maddow only had two pages of the billionaire businessman’s taxes from 2005 – and no bombshell.
Conservatives – including the president’s son Donald Trump Jr. – crowed that the documents showed Trump paid $38 million on $150 million in revenue, seemingly refuting claims that he dodged taxes.
Kal Penn got bored and changed the channel to Real Housewives of Beverley Hills.

Greta Van Susteren is regretful that she didn't believe Gretchen Carlson's claim of sexual harassment against former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes. Following her departure from the network on Tuesday, the longtime On the Record host no longer defends Ailes after he quit the network July 21 amid Carlson's sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit against the former CEO. "I read Geraldo's Fb post in which he said he regretted not believing Gretchen Carlson's claim of sexual harassment. We all regret it - I made my regret self evident in my GretaWire posting about 3 weeks ago which ended with this: 'Gretchen,...

Greta Van Susteren is leaving Fox News Channel after 14 years, People has confirmed.
In the wake of Van Susteren's departure, which Fox News announced on Tuesday, senior political analyst Brit Hume will take over as host of On the Record, which the former has helmed since its inception in 2002.
"We are grateful for Greta's many contributions over the years and wish her continued success," the network's co-presidents Jack Abernethy and Bill Shine said in a statement.
No specific reason has been given for Van Susteren's departure, but a source close to the situation tells People that it stemmed from a financial disagreement.

It’s time to give Dancing With the Stars credit where it’s due.
A few months back, as I compiled my gallery of Season 22 odds, I found it difficult to suppress my scoffs as I scrolled through a seemingly dismal lineup of celebrities. From Geraldo Rivera to Doug Flutie, it seemed as though the Season 22 roster was the ABC series’ least impressive yet, resulting in a general feeling of “meh” as the premiere approached.
Now, to be fair, Geraldo had no business stepping even his pinky toe on the ballroom floor, and Doug — though he exhibited great sportsmanship — was...

Dancing With the Stars' viewers message to Geraldo Rivera on Monday night: You're fired. The 72-year-old Fox News host had the unfortunate distinction of being the first celebrity eliminated during season 22...and he was eliminated while dressed as presidential nominee Donald Trump, wig and all. (His pro partner Edyta Sliwinska was dressed as Trump's wife, Melania.) His stance? To make dance great again, which unfortunately didn't happen, as he landed just 13 points from the judges. During the package before his performance, Geraldo said he was friends with the politician, who fired the TV personality when he was on Celebrity Apprentice, and thought he would "get a kick" out of...

Too bad so sad. That's our slightly sarcastic reaction to tonight's Dancing with the Stars elimination. We were neither surprised nor really that upset to see Geraldo Rivera and partner Edyta Sliwinska sent home after two disastrous attempts at dancing (on Geraldo's part). We don't feel bad saying that, because he knew it himself. "I would have demanded a recount," he said of the alternate universe in which he was not sent home. Hopefully, the fact that we won't have to see him on the dance floor again will help us erase the image of him dressed as Donald Trump, because that's how he decided to celebrate Latin night. We'd prefer to pretend it never happened, and we will...

Well, here we are again, Dancing With the Stars.
It seems every season, we go through the same routine: The premiere is jam-packed with high-energy, enthusiastic routines, likely prompting Carrie Ann Inaba to say something like, “I love this season!” or “Season X is going to be amazing!”
And then, Week 2 happens. And that means Latin Night happens.

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read on if you haven’t watched Monday’s episode of “Dancing With the Stars”) As a contestant on “Celebrity Apprentice,” Geraldo Rivera was eventually fired by Donald Trump — and now the journalist and TV host had the opportunity to mimic the Gop frontrunner in front of millions of viewers on “Dancing With the Stars.” In an ironic move that was no doubt a sly dig at Trump’s controversial comments about Mexico, Geraldo dressed up as Trump for the ABC dance contest’s Latin night on Monday. “We’re doing a parody of Donald Trump,...

Geraldo Rivera got political on Monday's Dancing with the Stars – as President Donald Trump!
The journalist imagined a world in which President Trump was in the White House along with first lady Melania (played by his pro pro Edyta Sliwinska) – with Rivera vowing to "make dance great again."
"He is a friend of mine, despite all the controversy," Rivera said in a rehearsal package. "I think he's going to get a kick out of all of this."

"Well, Edyta did great." That was how Geraldo Rivera summer up his Dancing With the Stars debut when he and professional partner Edyta Sliwinska chatted with E! News' Sibley Scoles after Monday night's premiere. And it was a rough night for the 72-year-old Fox News host, as his Cha Cha scored just a 13 out of 30 points from the judges, and earned some particularly harsh criticism from returning head judge Len Goodman (who served up his signature brutal honesty all night). But Geraldo wasn't too upset with Len's comments, telling us, "I thought that his critique, while cruel, was pretty accurate." Ever-protective of her celebrity pupil, his partner Edyta added, "It makes for great...

The deadly attacks in Paris on Friday hit close to home for veteran U.S. journalist and Fox News personality Geraldo Rivera. His 21-year-old daughter, Simone Rivera, one of his five children, was among the thousand of spectators at the national soccer stadium, close to where suicide bombers blew themselves up outside while France played an exhibition game against Germany, and was unharmed. It was one of six locations targeted on Friday in attacks that killed at least 127 people. The terrorist group Isis has claimed responsibility. Geraldo Rivera vs. the people of Baltimore, round two. The Fox News correspondent found himself at the center of another yelling match with protestors in Maryland last night while doing a live news report on the riots stemming from Freddie Gray's death in Baltimore. While giving an update on the lockdown in the city and curfew set in place for yet another night, it was clear to the viewer that Rivera was distracted by people shouting at him from behind the camera. At one point, Geraldo stopped trying to ignore what was being said, and started to call the person out. "What's your problem, what's your problem?" Rivera screamed at a protestor. "You're only brave when the cameras...
