In 1975, Universal Pictures released a film that would impact the movie industry forever. Titled Jaws, it was directed by a relatively new filmmaker by the name of Steven Spielberg, who had landed the gig when producers Richard D. Zanuck and David Brown found themselves without a director for the exciting project about the aquatic monster. 50 years later, its legacy remains unquestionable, and TCM, Universal Pictures, and more, plan to throw the 50th birthday bash Jaws deserves.
As reported by Bloody Disgusting, this summer, modern viewers will get the chance to revisit Spielberg's groundbreaking movie. Jaws will return to theaters for the TCM Classic Film Festival in April. However, this won't be the only 50th anniversary presentation, as Universal is planning a nationwide re-release of the movie from Aug. 29 through Sept. 4.

Winning an Oscar is supposed to be the pinnacle, right? The ultimate stamp of approval, the golden ticket to prestige projects and paychecks. But how could it ever be that simple? There’s a long history of actors who, after basking in the glow of their Academy Award moment, have suddenly found themselves struggling to land roles, battling weird industry backlash, or – if they happen to be a woman – being deemed “too difficult” overnight.
Some just call it the Oscar curse, because Hollywood loves to anoint a star, but it also loves to tear one down. Having said that, there’s a rare breed of actors who not only win an Oscar but do it again. And again. So who are these titans of the Academy, the actors who didn’t just win but kept winning?

Can you imagine living under the same roof with someone harboring a secret so profound it could shake the very foundation of your identity? Our admiration for Michael Caine was already sky-high, given his body of work, but after learning about the jaw-dropping revelation that emerged nearly 60 years into his life, our respect for him deepened tenfold.

Often, we talk about skeletons in the closet lightly, but this particular skeleton remained hidden behind a wall of love and resilience for decades. It turns out that his mother, Ellen Burchell, kept the secret of Caine’s half-brother, David, a secret for over 50 years—a truth that unfolded after her passing in 1989.

Jaws, the 1975 nail-biter, made a shark a Hollywood star. It had anticipation, action, and the legendary line: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” That line wasn’t even scripted! It was an on-the-spot gem from the chaotic mess behind the scenes.
The film was a shipwreck of problems, from broken sharks to water chaos. Yet, the crew spun disaster into cinematic magic. And that line? Not just a joke—it nailed the terror of a massive great white. Outlandish how one off-the-cuff gag became a pure Hollywood legend.
You’ve likely heard the line, even if you’ve never seen Jaws. It’s been quoted, parodied, and referenced everywhere — from TV shows to memes.
But the line’s true intensity lies in its relatability. Who hasn’t had a moment where they felt thoroughly impromptu? Jaws went on to become the first true summer blockbuster, changing Hollywood evermore.

Back to the Future Part II takes the franchise ahead to 2015, and although the movie didn't predict the future with complete accuracy, there was a specific piece of foreshadowing that came eerily close. The first Back to the Future sequel actually got several things right about 2015, despite being released in 1989. However, there is one piece of the movie's lore that resonated particularly well with viewers, and the prediction was pretty much fulfilled in the real world in 2002.
The Back to the Future movies are widely considered to form one of the best and most consistent trilogies of all time. Led throughout by Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown, the Back to the Future cast takes the audience through a thrilling time travel adventure that features almost as much nail-biting jeopardy as it boasts comedic moments. When an actor stars in a film, their promotional responsibilities are often written into their contracts. They have to appear on talk shows or post about the film on their social media accounts ... or even just not say anything bad about the production, no matter how the film turns out.
With the benefit of time, though, many actors look back on their work and want to let fans know that they were just as disappointed as we were. An actor trashing their own movie lets us know that they're human just like the rest of us, and that they too can tell when something just didn't work. It can also make for a great press anecdote. Take Dennis Hopper, for example, who told The A.V. Club that his son once asked him why he bothered to star in "Super Mario Bros." The "Easy Rider" star recalled telling his son, 'Well,...

Horror franchises have continued to dominate the genre, often overshadowing new releases that do not have a connection to a well-known and popular series. Many of these franchises have a mix of good and bad movies, including icons like Halloween, Alien, Saw, and The Conjuring. These titles have had enough success to overshadow the lackluster installments, even if they're known for only one or two major films that keep the series alive.
Other horror franchises in the genre have not withstood the test of time or kept viewers interested in more bad installments than good or even decent ones. Series like Puppet Master and Paranormal Activity may have a cult following, but the overall critical and audience reception is exceptionally poor. Despite having multiple sequels, these horror series only have one distinguishable film.

Our odyssey through the work of Michael Caine reaches a grim nadir: the 1984 comedy Blame It On Rio. Brace yourselves, readers.
Michael Caine showed no sign of slowing down as he entered his third decade as a leading man. The 1980s would see him win his first Academy Award (Hannah and Her Sisters), tackle new genres such as horror (The Hand) and shark-based revenge movie (Jaws: The Revenge) whilst continuing to work with interesting new auteurs like Brian De Palma (Dressed to Kill) as well as old friends from classic Hollywood such as John Huston (Escape to Victory).
Film by film, I’ll be taking a look at Caine’s 1980s filmography to see what hidden gems I can unearth alongside the more familiar classics…
Spoilers for Blame it on Rio lay ahead…

While the fourth installment in the Jaws franchise, Jaws: The Revenge, may not have been well-received by critics or fans, one of its stars says he isnt mad about having been in the film, which has a 2% on Rotten Tomatoes. Sir Michael Caine, in an excerpt from his new memoir, Dont Look Back, Youll Trip Over My Guide to Life, published in The Times, talked a bit about the 1987 film.
When people say to me, That was the worst film Ive ever seen! Id say, Probably, but it paid for a beautiful house for my mother, so whats your problem? Caine writes in his book. The movie didn't seem to hurt Caine's career, as he went on to win two Oscars and starred in films like The Dark Knight trilogy, The Prestige, Inception, and Now You See Me.

For as long as movies have been around, there have been good ones, bad ones, and everything in between. That goes double for cheesy movies, and no period better-personified schmaltz in cinema than the 1980s, a decade during which Hollywood produced a seemingly endless line-up of drivel so bad, it often couldn't help but be good.
80s cinema created a series of classic films, including The Shining, The Untouchables, and Blade Runner. Still, for every one of those films, ten other movies tried to reach as broad a market as possible and fell flat on their faces in the process. Some of those movies had their tongues so firmly planted in their proverbial cheeks that they turned into guilty pleasures nonetheless. Others did not.

A couple of months ago, Jaws 3D (as well as Jaws: The Revenge) was released on 4K Ultra HD, but the release came under fire because it appears that some fairly aggressive AI was used to help restore the movie. Owing to the 3D process used to film the movie—which divided a 35mm film frame in half along the middle—Jaws 3D has never been the best-looking movie on home media. The film has always had a great deal of grain and some frame distortion, but the AI processing has smoothed things over just a little too much, as well as turning the background characters into rather horrifying creatures. We dig into the 4K release in the video embedded above, and you can also see some images of the AI upscales in the embeds below:
If these screen grabs from reddit are true, then the Jaws 3 and 4K Uhd's are just AI upscales.

The 1975 Steven Spielberg film, Jaws, is a classic. Everything from the model shark, named Bruce, to its score to its famous lines (Were gonna need a bigger boat.) are iconic. It was responsible for a generation of horror fans becoming a bit more hesitant as they waded out into the ocean. However, as with many other franchises, the sequels it spawned have not quite lived up to the original.
The first sequel, Jaws 2, picks up where the first left off. Still on Amity Island, Roy Scheiders Police Chief, Martin Brody, once again finds himself saving beachgoers from a deadly great white. It was entertaining but too derivative of the first. Jaws 3-D, the second sequel, moved the action to SeaWorld in Florida. Overuse of 3-D shots and a trite story caused the third film to receive harsher criticism than the previous films. Yet, it was in the fourth installment,...

While "Jaws" wasn't Steven Spielberg's first movie, it was the movie that put Spielberg on the map. Plagued by production woes (it went over-budget and over-schedule), there was a really good chance that "Jaws" could've ended Spielberg's career just as it was getting started. Instead, the killer shark flick pretty much invented the summer blockbuster as we know it and made Spielberg a superstar. Audiences lined up around the block to see what Spielberg had created, and the massive success pretty much ensured Spielberg could do whatever the hell he wanted for the rest of his career. So what did Spielberg want to do next? Well, it sure wasn't a "Jaws" sequel, that's for sure. In 1975, Spielberg — according to John Baxter's book "Steven Spielberg: The Unauthorised Biography" — scoffed at the idea, saying that making a sequel "is just a cheap carny trick."
But studio Universal definitely wanted a sequel.

Since the earliest days of film, Hollywood has rewarded some of its most successful movies with sequels, from iconic continuations like For a Few Dollars More to duds like Jaws: The Revenge. While some trilogies spoil their franchise, and almost all end up being continued beyond three, some stories stand perfectly as a set of three. However, even the strongest of trilogies, such as The Godfather, aren't without serious faults, with one bad film often tarnishing the overall trilogy.
Movie trilogies serve as a perfect format for characters and worlds that demand an extended time on screen to truly do them justice. Whether it's direct continuations that offer up a complete saga or movies only loosely linked as three, getting to see beloved heroes complete their story is the best use of a trilogy. These movies show the full potential of Hollywood, and what can be done with heroes receiving...

Steven Spielberg's Jaws birthed a franchise of four movies, though they didnt have the same success (and quality). When it comes to horror movies with killer sharks on the hunt, Jaws sits at the top of the ladder. With Steven Spielberg at the helm, Jaws is one of the best movies in film history, featuring great acting, writing, cinematography, and incredible visual effects with a mechanical shark monster. With the Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park franchises being notable exceptions, Spielberg has never seemed too keen on sequels, but that didnt stop Hollywood from making them without his input.
Such was the case of Jaws, as Spielberg had no interest in making a follow-up and quickly turned down the chance to direct Jaws 2. Still, Jaws 2 proved to be a big hit, and Universal pressed on with a third and later a fourth film. After a 30-plus year absence from the big screen,...

Jaws, the horror classic that generated the term "blockbuster" in 1975, is returning to Netflix. Not only is Spielberg's first film of the franchise being added to the streaming platform, but the sequels Jaws 2 (1978) and Jaws 3-D (1983) will also be available. The only movie not joining them is the critically panned 1987 entry, Jaws: The Revenge. However, we're pretty sure not many will be pleading for that, as it's often considered one of the worst movies of all time.

One of the greatest blockbusters ever made -- and a couple of its sequels -- are headed to Netflix just in time for the fall season. Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic "Jaws" is headed to Netflix in September as part of the streamer's offerings for the month, alongside 1978's "Jaws 2" and 1983's "Jaws 3-D." That means subscribers will be able to watch the franchise nearly in its entirety, save for the fourth and final entry in the series, "Jaws: The Revenge." That may not be much of a loss though as it is widely regarded as the worst entry in the "Jaws" franchise.
Beginning September 1, the first three "Jaws" films will be available on Netflix. The films had a home on the streamer last year as well, but they were removed in December. In the streaming era as it exists, movies tend to bounce around on various services. Now, they're headed back to Netflix,...

Judith Barsi was one of the rising stars in the 80s, and many of her directors were keen on the child actress getting extensive work as she progressed in her career. However, the promising child actress would record her last performance at the age of 10, before she and her mother were allegedly killed by her father, who reportedly committed suicide just moments after.

The actress’s final performance came in the form of lines that she had recorded for the film, All Dogs Go to Heaven, which featured Burt Reynolds as the principal protagonist of the film. After the tragic passing of the young actress, it has been reported that it took Reynolds more than a few takes to get through his final scene for the film.

Even though Deadpool & Wolverine reignited the love that fans had for superheroes, there is no denying that there has been an evident shift in the way Hollywood views the genre. Some of the most respected figures in the industry have been critical of the films that Marvel and DC release, and the points that they raise are not without reason.
Many have started to agree with Martin Scorsese’s famous words, believing that the films have started to feel more like theme-park rides made for the spectacle than something stemming from passion and expression. Recently, Michael Keaton revealed his thoughts on the canceled Batgirl film, and his comments did not help this statement.

When Steven Spielberg's Jaws came out in 1975, it quickly became the biggest box office draw of all time. Its success created the summer blockbuster and countless imitators. There's a commonality most of those other Jaws clones share though: they suck. Whether it be the many Italian Jaws wannabes like Cruel Jaws, or all of the purposely over-the-top, CGI-heavy Sharknado films, if you hear about a shark movie, you know not to expect quality. Even Jaws' own sequels are so subpar that one of them, Jaws: The Revenge, became an unintentionally hilarious slasher about a shark who seeks vengeance on the Brody family for killing so many other murderous great whites.

Jaws franchise expands beyond the original with sequels and prequels, offering a deeper dive into character backstories. The Book of Quint delves into Quint's past, including the USS Indianapolis incident and the acquisition of the iconic Orca boat. Quint's prequel novel sheds light on his character before the Amity Island attacks, adding new dimensions for Jaws enthusiasts.
The 1975 film Jaws is a classic thriller directed by Steven Spielberg based off the 1974 Peter Benchley novel, and you might not know about its prequel. The original book and movie follow a local police chief, a shark enthusiast, and a shark hunter who must stop a killer sharks attacks on their communitys beaches before the shark claims any more lives. Jaws broke new ground when it was released in 1975. It had special effects the world had never seen before, and the score made viewers feel instantly anxious and alert. The relatable characters also made Jaws a resounding success. Without a doubt, it remains one of the most celebrated and well-respected horror movies ever released. For those unfamiliar, the movie is about a beach town called Amity Island that is terrorized by a brutal great white shark. A hunter named Sam Quint (Robert Shaw) offers to catch the brute for $100,000. An oceanographer named Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and Amity Island's chief, Martin Brody (Roy Scheider), round out the crew looking for the shark.
When Jaws came out in 1975, audiences were blown away by the practical effects used to create the shark. Millions of people were haunted by the signature score created by John Williams, to the point where taking a bath didn't even seem safe.

Whenever you hear the name Stephen Spielberg, you often think of movies like Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. But one of his most well known films is the 1975 horror movie Jaws, based on the 1974 novel of the same name about a killer great white shark terrorizing the people of a coastal town and how a few brave heroes set out to hunt down and kill the beast.
The movie went on to become a massive success making $476.5 Million on a $9 Million budget. It became one of the most iconic films of the 1970s and it received sequels and inspired multiple imitators such as Piranha, Orca, and Tentacles. With the film’s 50th Anniversary just a year away, Universal will most likely be re-releasing the franchise onto multiple formats.
However, one of the recent re-releases for the series, specifically the third and fourth films, has caused some controversy for the studio.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Jaws 3 has been marred by using AI to do some of the upscaling work: more here.
There comes a moment where there’s simply no point. If you’re not going to do the basics with something, then it’s better not to bother at all.
I’m one of the niche audience for Jaws 3-D, and I was one of those looking forward to the film’s debut on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format. Universal, to its credit, has prepared new 4K transfers of both Jaws 3-D and Jaws: The Revenge for the physical media format, putting time in to get new versions of the films out there. Brilliant.
Or, in this case, not brilliant.

The vast majority of cinephiles and laymen alike have precious few negative things to say about Steven Spielberg's Jaws. The one oft-mentioned complaint is that "the shark looks fake." Well, it was a relatively low-budget film and, for a 1975 mechanical shark, it actually looks pretty intimidating to this day. But the sharks in the three sequels? Nothing short of increasingly laughable in appearance.
The original film received one of the best 4K remasters for a '70s movie to date, while the Jaws 2 release was... fine. Not spectacular, but fine. The same could be said of the movie itself, and it seems the appropriate "Yikes" that could describe the third and fourth films will be applicable to their treatment in 4K. Why? Because it's been revealed that Universal Pictures has allowed for AI upscaling in their forthcoming releases of Jaws 3 and Jaws: The Revenge. In other words,...

1978's The Swarm was called the worst movie ever. This was the case in spite of the fact that it starred MIchael Caine, Henry Fonda, and seven other Oscar nominees. The movie's 9% Rotten Tomatoes score belies its quality, though it still has entertainment value.
The 1978 movie The Swarm, which features a star-studded cast that includes Henry Fonda, Michael Caine, and many other Oscar winners and major celebrities, has been called "the worst movie ever." This is an astonishing fact considering the track record of its cavalcade of major performers. Critical reception for movies featuring these stars has generally been high. Michael Caine had also only had 10 Rotten movies before The Swarm. While the iconic star's career has varied wildly between beloved classics and outright flops, he is best known for well-received movies as varied as the...

Steven Spielberg’s Jaws is one of the most significant horror flicks that still gives chills to beachgoers. The iconic 1975 shark movie played a vital role in establishing the filmmaker as one of the biggest Hollywood names. But at one point, Jaws became too much to handle for a young Spielberg. The film’s production is so infamous that it even gave Ptsd to the E.T. fame.

As witnessed in Spielberg’s projects, the Jurassic Park filmmaker always flaunts a distinct style and a grand vision in his projects. Despite being the third project of his career, Steven Spielberg wanted to give his best to Jaws and planned to shoot the entire film in the ocean.
While the difficult plan immensely contributed to the film’s worldwide success, the troubles that followed offscreen also had their toll on the filmmaker.
How did Jaws’ filming traumatize Steven Spielberg?...

Jaws is one of Steven Spielberg's biggest masterpieces, with an impressive legacy. However, the people over at Lego thought the iconic shark film deserves a reimagining as a Lego animation.
Lego just unveiled a complete Jaws set based on the 1975 classic, and went the extra mile to make it memorable. With a one-minute and thirty-second video released on YouTube, the famous toy company took the most iconic moments of Jaws and created the best and funniest reimagining using Lego. All four Jaws movies are available to stream on Peacock and Starz. Subscription rates for Starz and Peacock start at $9.99 and $5.99 per month, respectively. Jaws movies can also be rented or bought from platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+.
The Steven Spielberg-created Jaws franchise is arguably the pinnacle of shark attack cinema, which makes knowing where to watch all four films a must for genre fans. While the debate concerning whether or not Jaws truly counts as horror will seemingly never be resolved conclusively, it's nearly undisputed that the 1975 film is a classic, and continues to hold up 45 years after its release. Jaws features likable characters, some truly gut-wrenching deaths, and an iconic aquatic villain whose first full appearance onscreen is legendary. There's also the equally iconic score by John Williams, cementing the movie's place in movie history.
The original Jaws holds a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Jaws 2 struggled to reach the highs of the original hit, repeating its predecessor's plot points. The 3-D gimmick of the third Jaws film contributed to its maligned reception. The franchise ended with Jaws: The Revenge, which suffered from a troubled production and questionable creative decisions.
The impact of Steven Spielberg's Jaws on the film industry cannot be overstated. The film is largely responsible for establishing the summer blockbuster season that studios still stick to nearly fifty years later. It's easy to see why Jaws captured moviegoers' attention the world over: Roy Scheider, Richard Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss' performances are top-tier, John Williams' score was instantly iconic, and the visual effects still look fantastic. Even without factoring in the aggressive marketing from Universal, Jaws was essentially destined to be a success.

Michael Caine considers the Harry Palmer sequels, "Bullet to Beijing" and "Midnight in Saint Petersburg," among his worst experiences. Sequels felt cheap and rushed, lacking the quality of the original Harry Palmer films, with little to no compelling character development. Despite Caine's talent, the sequels failed to make an impression, serving as a waste of his return to the character of Harry Palmer.
Michael Caine has one of the most illustrious acting careers in modern film, but two of the sequels to his James Bond-esque The Ipcress File linger as his most disliked acting experiences. Michael Caine has been a consistent presence in movies for over fifty years, with his early starring roles in films like The Ipcress File, The Italian Job, and Alfie establishing him as one of the 20th century's best screen actors. His career continued well into the 21st century, highlighting his adaptability from goofball comedies...

One of Hollywood’s greatest living actors, Michael Caine, is sending his fans into a tizzy over a photo posted to his personal Twitter account. The image depicts an impressive stack of Caine’s films on DVD and Blu-ray, encapsulating the highs and lows of his storied career as an entertainer. While gems like Get Carter, The Last Valley, and Harry Brown adorn the pile, cinematic blights like On Deadly Ground, Jaws: The Revenge, and The Island sit among the crowd.
The variety of films in Caine’s collection speaks volumes about the actor’s sense of humor and accomplishment. While some actors tend to want to cast their cinematic sins to the fiery depths, Caine proudly displays several of his biggest box office bombs and critically panned misfires. For example, Peter Benchley’s The Island is an insane bit of cinema featuring Caine as a kidnap victim of inbred pirates.

Whenever the future is depicted in movies, it is generally a dark, depressing dystopian future where something happens in our present that sets forth the collapse of our society. Even Disney is not immune to showing us a future where Earth is no longer inhabitable (the beloved Wall-e). But occasionally, a movie shows a future that doesn’t look so bad—one with self-lacing shoes, 19 Jaws movies and flying cars. Of course, if we are being technical, this movie is also in the past. It’s time for us to hop in our DeLorean, generate the necessary 1.21 Jigowatts and travel to the futuristic world of October 21, 2015, as we take a look at what Back to the Future Part II got right and wrong about the future of technology… from eight years ago!
