Get ready to bust Dixie! Soon, you’ll be able to bring Riggs and Murtaugh home to meet the family as Warner Bros. is releasing a new crisp ultra-high-def transfer of the 1987 Richard Donner classic Lethal Weapon. Last year, Warner Bros. announced the release of the buddy cop pop culture staple along with other studio titles. The original street date looks to have changed as Blu-ray.com is reporting that the new 4K physical media transfer of Lethal Weapon will now be hitting retailers on April 29. The film catapulted Shane Black as his script for this film was a hot property in Hollywood. The movie stars Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Gary Busey, Mitchell Ryan, and Tom Atkins.
The description reads,
“Following the death of his wife, Los Angeles police detective Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) becomes reckless and suicidal. When he is reassigned and partnered with Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover), Riggs...

There has been a sequel in development for Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant since the original film’s release and moderate success. In the nine years since the first film’s release, no one has exactly been clamoring for The Accountant 2, but this sequel is charming enough to win over audiences looking for an entertaining B-action picture with an A-list scale.
The Accountant 2 Review
The Accountant 2 sees Ben Affleck’s money launderer and assassin called out of his peaceful retirement when he has to investigate the death of a close friend and how it might connect to a missing person’s case and a human trafficking ring. Bill Dubuque’s script feels generic in such a way that it almost feels as if it could have been a spec script that retroactively had the characters from the first film added to it.

Buddy cop movies are a staple of the action-comedy genre, pairing mismatched partners who must overcome their differences to chase down criminals. Director Richard Donner's Lethal Weapon series is well-known for popularizing the buddy-cop genre, as Mel Gibson's reckless cop and Danny Glover's by-the-book officer made for plenty of mishaps and over-the-top action sequences. The 1980s/90s franchise went on to inspire a new wave of buddy cop films, including Rush Hour, Bad Boys, and Shanghai Noon.
More recently, the genre has evolved with hits like 21 Jump Street, The Other Guys, The Heat, and The Nice Guys. Among the modern entries in the genre, Ride Along carved out its own space thanks to the comedic energy of Kevin Hart, which paired hilariously with Ice Cube's stoic intensity. With a $154 million global box office haul, Ride Along became a surprise hit, setting the stage for its 2016 sequel.

Directors Robert Olsen and Dan Berk are well known to horror fans for smart, scary, and sometimes quite funny thrillers like “Body,” “Villains,” and “Significant Other.” With their latest film, “Novocaine,” the precise and expressive visual style of those early films remains, but the genre is new: The story of a mild-mannered banker (Jack Quaid) on a quest to save his kidnapped new girlfriend (Amber Midthunder) is a full-on action movie packed with exhilarating set pieces.
For Berk and Olsen, getting the chance to play in Richard Donner and John McTiernan’s sandbox was a long-held dream finally realized.
“We’ve wanted to make an action movie for a very long time, but it’s really hard early in your career,” Berk told IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “No one’s going to give you the 20-plus-million dollars you need to make an action movie for your first feature.”

Mark Wahlberg stars in Shane Black’s first film in seven years, the upcoming Play Dirty. Surprisingly, it’s getting an R rating.
Writer, producer, director and sometime actor Shane Black has left a potent mark on modern cinema, not least directing Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys. Furthermore, has a $1bn hit to his name with Iron Man 3, and his screenplays for the likes of Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout are quite something to do.
I want to start this story with the good stuff, as the last film that he made to date was 2018’s The Predator. I wasn’t fond of it at all, but still: since then, Shane Black has neither written nor directed a film, and that’s been seven years. He’s been away from the screen too long.

Tina Louise was starring on Broadway with Carol Burnett when producers approached her about a part in a new sitcom. “The CBS casting director Ethel Winant called me at the theater, ‘Do you think you could play this Lucille Ball/Marilyn Monroe-type of character?’” the 91-year-old actress told Forbes. “I said yes.”
The Lucy-meets-Marilyn character was Ginger Grant, the “movie star” who was shouted out in the opening credits of Gilligan’s Island. That character description was enough to make Louise ditch Broadway, but she was in for a rude awakening when she arrived on set. “I got there and the director wanted it to be a more sarcastic kind of character,” she said. “And so, then I didn’t even want to work on it anymore. I told him I wanted to quit.”

"Gilligan's Island" only aired for three seasons on CBS, but it became a rerun sensation when it hit syndication after getting canceled in 1967. Kids in the market for a relentlessly silly sitcom to watch after school while they were neglecting their homework and chores couldn't do better than this aggressively formulaic show about seven castaways shipwrecked on an uncharted island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Just about every episode revolved around the characters' inevitably thwarted attempts to return to civilization, and this familiarity bred nary a hint of contempt.
The key reason the show never got old for its undemanding target audience was the cast. Bob Denver (Gilligan), Alan Hale Jr. (Skipper), Jim Backus (Thurston Howe), Natalie Schafer (Lovie Howe), Russell Johnson (Professor Roy Hinkley), Dawn Wells (Mary Ann), and Tina Louise (Ginger) formed a perfectly balanced ensemble that understood precisely what was expected of them. You couldn't imagine anyone else playing these roles.

While we wait to see whether or not Warner Bros. is going to give Lethal Weapon franchise star Mel Gibson the chance to direct Lethal Weapon 5, Lionsgate gave the Gibson-directed action thriller Flight Risk a theatrical release back in January (you can read our review Here) – and now, they’ve announced that they’ve set an April 1st release date for the 4K Uhd, the 4K Uhd + Blu-ray + Digital Combo Pack SteelBook, Blu-ray, and DVD.

The cast of "Star Trek: The Original Series" had an endearing ability to laugh at themselves. It wasn't just about the sense of levity that often existed on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise; it was the actors' willingness to be goofy and play broadly for laughs. Even a performer as seemingly stiff as William Shatner could loosen up and act the fool when a scene called for it. This capacity to clown was on full display when the crew traveled back in time to 1986 San Francisco to kidnap a couple of humpback whales in "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home"; watching Spock learn to curse, Bones react in horror to the state of 20th century medicine, and Kirk put the moves on Catherine Hicks' cetologist made us howl because it was so clear the cast was having a wonderful time.

1987’s Lethal Weapon is arriving on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray later this year: more details on the new release right this way.
Warner Bros continues to mine its back catalogue of titles really rather well, and also support physical media too. The latest case in point: Richard Donner’s 1987 favourite Lethal Weapon is heading to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, and it’s just gone up for preorder.

A Predator movie directed by Shane Black, written by him and the director of The Monster Squad. This sounded like the recipe for an awesome sci-fi action horror film, but what Black delivered was one of the least popular films in the Predator franchise, with a third act that was completely different from what was originally written and a variety of bad ideas being filmed as potential endings. Critics were unimpressed. Fans were disappointed. And now, we’re going to dig into what happened to The Predator.

According to the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia subreddit, President Donald Trump needs to put Lethal Weapon 5 and Lethal Weapon 6 back in the library whether Hulu likes it or not.
In mid-2020, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia found itself in the same situation as many comedy shows at the time in re-examining its use of racist imagery — specifically that of the blackface variety — amidst protests and mounting tensions over the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Given the political climate at the time, Hulu, while struggling to maintain market-friendly social messaging, made the decision to remove episodes of Always Sunny that contained such intentionally insensitive makeup from their platform as the rest of the streaming giants did the same for other sitcoms like 30 Rock and Community.

The world of entertainment is closely intertwined with the world of politics. Especially in the realm of Hollywood where political commentary is a commonly found element, polarizing figures end up connecting, forging unlikely connections. This couldn’t be more true when the recent Presidential elections happened in the United States. In a ‘war’ between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, Republicans and Democrats, even the film industry had its stars divided, supporting one camp over the other.

It can’t be denied that as far as martial arts movies go, the best ones come from Asia, particularly Hong Kong during their action heyday, which was arguably the 70s, 80s and first half of the ’90s. It’s tough to compete with the likes of the Shaw Brothers and the drunken master known as Jackie Chan. That said, martial arts movies were also making a foothold in the States decades ago, thanks mainly to Bruce Lee-mania following the release of Enter the Dragon. Before that movie, very few actors in Hollywood seemed like they were credible martial artists, except maybe James Coburn, a student of Lee’s, who pulled off some pretty good-looking moves in the otherwise silly Our Man Flint movies. Steve McQueen also had training but didn’t use martial arts on screen. Up to then, though, the most notable uses of martial arts in movies usually revolved around Judo,...

A protagonist can only be as compelling as the forces of antagonism, Robert McKee once said. And while Donald Trump surely never took a screenwriting class, he instinctively understands this — and many other axioms — of Hollywood storytelling.
More than any national politician in history, the incoming president — who was inaugurated on a cold Washington D.C. afternoon Monday — has relied on the mechanisms of modern entertainment, starting with his perpetual casting of Hollywood as the villain. Yet even as he continues to find new ways to bring together backroom politics and backlot note-giving, Trump in his second term is poised to have a more complex relationship with the entertainment business than with almost any other industry, plunging its interests into financial and legislative uncertainty.

When Bruce Willis became a television star 40 years ago via the hit ABC comedy "Moonlighting," no one in the entertainment industry thought he was primed to become the next great action movie hero. As wisecracking private detective David Addison, he seemed poised to be a romantic comedy lead in the old-fashioned vein of Cary Grant or, at the very least, a rakish successor to Paul Newman. He did not, however, give off the gun-toting beefcake vibes of guys like Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger. So when he snared a then-unthinkable $5 million payday to star in "Die Hard" after just about every star in Hollywood passed on the role of John McClane, a folly appeared to be in the offing.
All Willis did with "Die Hard" is completely readjust the industry's expectations for action films. Instead of a musclebound killing machine, he was an everyman cop who uses his wits as...

It allowed both actors to really show their comedic chops and chemistry, and it's as close to a perfect buddy comedy as you can get. It's funny, it's action-packed, and it's occasionally a little scary in a fun way, like any of the several times when March essentially throws himself into an extended, painful tumble and somehow manages to survive every time.
Even though March becomes convinced that he cannot die, things get especially scary when he ends up at the bottom of a hill, right next to a bloody corpse. March gets upset,...

Now that The Goonies 2 is confirmed to be in development, I find it hard to be excited about it as the sequel is happening without Richard Donner. The 1980s are home to many classics, of which some went on to become franchises and others were left to enjoy their success on their own. Although it’s true that not every successful and popular movie deserves a sequel, the ongoing trend of reboots and long-awaited sequels means that no movie is safe from getting these treatments – and now it’s the turn of The Goonies.
Directed by Richard Donner from a story by Steven Spielberg and written by Chris Columbus (a winning combination of talents), The Goonies follows a group of kids living in the “Goon Docks” area of Oregon – hence why they call themselves “the Goonies.” When their homes face foreclosure, they find an old treasure map that sets...

The Nice Guys, directed and written by Shane Black, was not a flop by any means. It accrued generally positive reviewsand profited around $12 million. Still, it was not as much of a hit as it should have been. Other movies have become classics for much less. Except for perhaps sometimes being confused with Will Ferrell's The Other Guys, another buddy action movie, there is no real identifiable reason why this film has flown so far under the radar for so long.
The Nice Guys stars beloved actors Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, as well as features performances from the likes of Margaret Qualley (a rather buzzworthy name this year following her star-making turn in The Substance), Matt Bomer (Magic Mike), and Angourie Rice (Mean Girls), to name a few. Damon Wayans Jr. was part of the ensemble cast of Happy Endings, and his real-life father, Damon Wayans Sr., had a one-episode guest appearance on the show. Wayans Sr. played Brad’s father, a veteran in town for some medical tests in season 1, episode 5, “Like Father, Like Gun.” From their stilted early interactions to their tender heart-to-heart at the end, the Wayans father and son stole the episode from the Happy Endings' best characters.
Over a decade later, the Wayans are reprising their roles as a father-son pair in Poppa’s House, a show Wayans Sr. co-created. Poppa’s House is built around the comedic chemistry the Wayans naturally share, given the Wayans family's long history in show business. Reader, you have been lied to! Film history is littered with unfairly maligned classics, whether critics were too eager to review the making of rather than the finished product, or they suffered from underwhelming ad campaigns or general disinterest. Let’s revise our takes on some of these films from wrongheaded to the correct opinion.
What’s the greatest chase scene in American movies? One could easily make a convincing argument for the lengthy action sequence that anchors Buster Keaton’s “The General,” or for the kinetic urban set pieces of “Bullitt” and “The French Connection.” Movies like “Duel,” “The Driver,” and “Speed” are essentially feature-length chases broken up by occasional dialogue sequences, and for sheer scale, the final act of “The Blues Brothers” is tough to beat.

By the end of the 80s, the action genre was primed for parody. The decade gave rise to the muscle-bound action hero, who by the early 90s had already become something of an archetype in wider culture. So, you'd think something like "National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1" would be a comedic hit when it debuted in 1993. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work out that way.
The film stars Emilio Estevez as Sgt. Jack Colt, a parody of Mel Gibson's Martin Riggs from the "Lethal Weapon" films. Samuel L. Jackson plays his reluctant partner, Sgt. Wes Luger, himself a parody of Danny Glover's Roger Murtaugh. Together the LAPD duo embark on a mission to solve the murder of their fellow officer Sgt. Billy York (Whoopi Goldberg), which is essentially just an excuse for the film to, er, lampoon the action genre as a whole.

One of the most iconic moments in Richard Donner's first Superman movie is when Christopher Reeve's Man of Steel turns back time to save Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) from death. It's the kind of feat you'd expect Superman to pull off. But Superman wasn't the only film where Donner tackled the nature of time. In 2003, he directed Timeline, starring Paul Walker and Gerard Butler and based on Michael Crichton's novel. But why did a time travel movie from the same man who gave us Lethal Weapon, The Goonies, and The Omen fly under our radar?...

Prime Video's police drama On Call is something different, and not just because of its unique visual style. The series offers up a perspective that isn't found in other scripted procedurals, as well as a cast that sets a different tone than similar shows. It's almost hard to believe that the series hails from Wolf Entertainment, which is the most recognizable procedural brand in television -- including the Law & Order, One Chicago and FBI franchises.
In an interview with Cbr, On Call co-creators and executive producers Eliot Wolf and Tim Walsh talked about moving Wolf Entertainment into the streaming world for the first time. “You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.” These words by Bob Marley ring so true, especially when you look at people who’ve been hit hard by life’s unpredictable storms, yet somehow manage to keep going. The man who made his name playing warriors, rebels, and fearless leaders on-screen, has faced battles off-camera that could rival the most harrowing film scripts.

As a movie star, Gerard Butler owns January the way Will Smith once owned Memorial Day and the “Meg” films own August. That Butler’s B-movie thrillers now hold sway over the frozen, box-office-lite oblivion of the early weeks of the year may seem a Pyrrhic victory, but at least he’s the king of something. And Butler’s brusque, beady-eyed, scowling-hulk charisma has aged well. A quick-fire actor in a caveman’s body, he has the ability to lift a piece of pulp so it almost seems like a real movie.
For much of its two-hour-and-24-minute running time, “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera,” the sequel to Butler‘s cops-vs.-crooks heist thriller from 2018, does a satisfying impersonation of a high-end crime film. If you want to know what makes Butler a commanding genre bruiser, look no further than the way he smokes on camera, dragging on a cigarette...

Mad Max is a very different franchise now than when it started in 1979; George Miller’s post-apocalyptic saga has evolved a lot over the years. The first Mad Max movie was a microbudget production pulled off on a wing and a prayer, while the most recent entry was a mega-budget blockbuster with the backing of a major studio. Mad Max is perhaps the most unlikely hit franchise in Hollywood history — it’s shamelessly weird and unrelentingly dark.
Over the course of its 45-year history, Mad Max has undergone plenty of changes. The scale has gotten bigger, the colors have gotten more vibrant, and the title character has been recast — and Mad Max is still going strong, at least creatively. These are the biggest evolutions in the Mad Max franchise.
Max Rockatansky Has Been Recast
In the original Mad Max trilogy, the titular role of Max Rockatansky was played by Mel Gibson.

In an interview posted to YouTube by Insider, retired U.S. Army soldier Patrick McNamara breaks down and ranks various firearms scenes from different films, including a shooting range sequence from 1987's Lethal Weapon. Discussing Mel Gibson's handling of his weapon in the scene as LAPD Sergeant Martin Riggs, McNamara said, "Riggs' form is very, very cringeworthy. He’s slapping the heck out of the trigger. He’s going a million miles on that trigger, and he’s shutting his eyes at every shot, and his whole body is flinching with every single shot. It’s not rhythmic. There’s no metronome rhythm there. It’s just ripping rounds into the target. It’s a horrible pistol marksmanship scene."

The movie stars Wahlberg as a mob hitman who is hired to kill a U.S. Marshal (Michelle Dockery) and an informant (Topher Grace) while on a small plane, forcing them to take over the craft and try to fly it to safety while evading further enemies. The movie was directed by Mel Gibson, the star of the Lethal Weapon franchise and the original Mad Max movies, who has directed a variety of titles including the Oscar winners Braveheart and Hacksaw Ridge.
Lionsgate has now shared a new official trailer for Flight Risk. The trailer kicks off with Wahlberg's character introducing himself as Daryl Booth, only for the bumpy takeoff to dislodge the real Daryl's pilot's license from beneath his chair, exposing him as a fraud. The pilot eventually reveals...

Flight Risk, the action thriller which marks Mel Gibson‘s first time in the director’s chair since Hacksaw Ridge comes out on January 24th, and marks star Mark Wahlberg’s first straight-on villain role since his breakout performance in 1996’s Fear. As you can see in the trailer above, Wahlberg’s sporting an unhinged new look, including a bald pate which, I suppose, is meant to downplay his usual movie star looks.
Directed by Mel Gibson and written by Jared Rosenberg, Flight Risk finds Wahlberg playing a pilot transporting an Air Marshall (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar, and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.
The January 24th release date should give Flight Risk a prime slot to pull in some big box-office, as it’s currently the only wide release movie on tap for that weekend.
