If you grew up in the 90s like I did, Damon Wayans was one of the biggest names in comedy. He became famous for his run on Fox's sketch comedy show In Living Color before becoming a leading man in feature films like The Last Boy Scout and Blankman, but prior to all of that, he was a cast member on Saturday Night Live. For so many successful comedians, SNL is the starting point that launches them into fame, but for Wayans it was a disaster. You'd be forgiven for not even knowing he was ever on the show. This is because Damon Wayans barely appeared on air, and frustrated with how he was being treated, he took it into his own hands to get Lorne Michaels to fire him for something he did on live TV.

It’s time to take NBC‘s comedic sitcom St. Denis Medical off life support because the show is getting a Season 2 renewal! Fans of the series created by Superstore and American Auto’s Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer have been stuck in the waiting room while hoping for more episodes of the laugh-out-loud comedy, and today, news outlets are ready to give them the good news!
St. Denis Medical takes place in an underfunded, understaffed Pregon hospital for a mockumentary-style sitcom. The show places audiences in the scrubs of determined doctors and nurses who work tirelessly to treat patients while holding tightly to their tolerance and humanity. Anyone who’s ever worked in the medical field or experienced an extended hospital stay knows how stressful a hospital environment can be, and the staff of St. Denis Medical do their best to keep the unpredictable environment safe, light-hearted, and functioning.

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be winding down in earnest (films like "The Marvels" and shows like "Secret Invasion" aren't nearly as successful as their forbears), perhaps audiences may finally be able to speak about the series as it if weren't an inevitability. The MCU indeed stood like a mighty colossus over the entire film industry for the better part of 15 years, but there was nothing beyond our uncreative assumptions to indicate that it had to happen or that it would last forever.
Perhaps with that attitude gone, audiences will be able to see films like "Blade" as a stylish action/horror flick unto itself, and not a dry run for something better down the line. Perhaps the 1996 pilot for "Generation X" can be accepted merely as a low-budget, MTV-inflected take on the X-Men. And perhaps TV movies like David Goyer's 1998 actioner "Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D....

If you’re wondering what’s new on Amazon Prime Video in June, the answer is a lot. The streamer has a solid slate of movies heading into summer 2023. From the first two “Creed” films to “Love, Rosie,” “Yours, Mine & Ours” and other clever romantic comedies, the streamer has a range of options for viewers with different tastes. Newer theatrical releases arriving on the streamer in June include “TÁR,” “Armageddon Time,” and “M3GAN.”
TV premieres to look forward to include Boots Riley’s “I’m A Virgo” and the fourth and final season of John Krasinski’s “Jack Ryan.” “Crazy Rich Asians” arrives early in June, followed by “Interstellar” for all Christopher Nolan and Matthew McConaughey lovers. Even though “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” doesn’t release in theaters until November, all four “Hunger Games” films land on Prime Video this June. Perfect timing — maybe even with a reread...

With its list of new releases for June 2023, Prime is bringing a handful of Amazon Originals and many recent movie hits to the fold.
It’s actually quite a busy month for non-American programming in Amazon Originals department. Shows and movies like Deadloch, My Fault, and Medellín all originate from outside the U.S. and U.K. For the American and British crowd, however, the streamer is debuting two big tentpoles.
The first is I’m a Virgo on June 23. Acclaimed director Boots Riley’s TV followup to Sorry to Bother You will tale the surreal and satirical tale of a giant in Oakland. That will be followed by the more conventional (assumedly) fourth season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on June 30.
The real fireworks this month come from a ludicrously deep bench of library TV and movie titles. Give them a look for yourself below but if we were to highlight just a few,...

The fourth and final season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” arrives on Prime Video on June 30. It finds Ryan — now the new acting CIA director — unearthing internal corruption and suspicious black ops that leaves the United States vulnerable to attack. John Krasinski stars as the tough-as-nails Ryan.

The organization’s abusive practices — and the insidious long political game it plays — is revealed on June 2. The Duggars and their 19 “happy” kids are exposed as frauds, while also being manipulated by Gothard and enduring the scandal of Josh, their sexually abusive son.

February 16 marked the fifth anniversary of Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole’s “Black Panther.” Marvel Studios’ first Black-led superhero flick, starring the late Chadwick Boseman as the king of Wakanda, was seen as a watershed moment for Hollywood representation. With all the chatter about Marvel and DC films prioritizing diversity and inclusivity as a step forward for the caped sub-genre, the success of “Black Panther” was less a step forward and more a return to what was once the status quo generations prior.
Comic book and/or superhero movies fronted by Black actors, like the “Blade” trilogy and “Men in Black” series, once kept comic book features alive, only for Hollywood to declare them essentially whites-only as “Spider-Man” turned the genre into A-level tentpole IP.

Fox's Lethal Weapon star Damon Wayans has just turned 60 years old, and fans are celebrating online even if some just aren't quite sure how to feel about it. Famous for his humor since the mid 80s, Wayans is still very well remembered for his sketch comedy work on In Living Color along with many appearances in other movies and television shows. Because it's hard for many fans to think of some of his classic characters like Major Payne or Homey D. Clown as older men, word of his 60th birthday comes as a bit of a surprise to many on social media.
"I can't believe Damon Wayans is 60!!!" exclaims one fan, adding a shocked face emoji. "I just heard that Damon Wayons is 60 so I need some to think about that," echoes another Twitter user. Meanwhile, another tweet seems to sum up Wayans' aging process rather well by noting,...

Standing in the bay of a speeding Wakandan jet, a member of the African nation's special forces unit – the Dora Milaje – advises their king, T'Challa: "Don't freeze." Calmly, the leader replies "I never freeze." He's assured, regal, radiating a near subzero-temperature sense of cool. And then, donning the mask of the legendary superhero known as the Black Panther, he torpedo-drops from the sky. A car explodes beneath him. He effortlessly somersaults through the air, lands sideways on a building in a neon-lit metropolis, races along the building's wall and sails right onto the speeding car.

The Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James held his annual Halloween party over the weekend and, as usual, he and his teammates went all out. But, LeBron takes the crown and lives up to his Instagram handle as King James with his truly terrifying Pennywise the Dancing Clown costume from Andres Muschietti's smash hit It remake. James is known for his awesome annual Halloween bashes and this year was no exception. The Cavs costume party saw some heavy hitters with the help of professional stylists all the way down to some back to basics Halloween classics.
The 6-foot-8, 250-pound LeBron James dominated his own party like it was the basketball court with his ridiculously accurate and disturbing Pennywise costume. The NBA star took to Instagram to share his costume and he's completely unrecognizable dressed as the star of It. James even captioned the photo with, "Georgie!! Damon Wayans was the second major cast member from "In Living Color" to leave the show, after Kim Coles. He departed following the third season to pursue a big screen career, starring in films like "The Last Boy Scout," "Blankman" and "Major Payne." But during his time with the show, he left an unmistakable signature that can be felt across a number of colorful characters. Think of "In Living Color" and you're bound to have the image of an angry, put-upon clown flash through your head (Homey D. Clown), or perhaps a pair of flamboyant critics giving the weekend's latest release "two snaps up" ("Men On…"). These were some of Wayans' trademark sketches, coming at a time when, as he says in our extended feature on the series' 25th anniversary, he was eager for redemption after being fired from "Saturday Night Live." Here are the beginnings and inspirations for those sketches and more,...

With cinematic releases at the moment mostly involving the not-particularly inspiring likes of "That's My Boy" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," it's hard not to look to television for a little nourishment. The trouble is that the TV season has wrapped up for the year. While a few shows (namely "Girls") are still wrapping up, and others get underway shortly ("The Newsroom," "Breaking Bad," "Louie"), it's pretty quiet on the box, with cast and creatives focusing on making a hiatus movie, campaigning for Emmy, or just getting some sleep for once.
Still, with the 2011/2012 TV season done, we thought we'd shine a light on the small screen this week. Writer-director James Gunn's Super is the white-guy version of the Damon Wayans superhero caper Blankman -- or, perhaps more specifically, Generation X's take on Kick Ass. Not Matthew Vaughn's film adaptation, either, but Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s original comic, with its gamy, emo desperation about a regular guy who decides to fight crime. And, like the comic version of Kick Ass, the action in Super is clumsy and triggers cringe-producing consequences that make you wonder about the sanity of its protagonist.

With a year chock full of lackluster movies, whittling down a list of 2010's biggest disappointments is a more daunting task than selecting the most impressive. It's easy to kick movies like Jonah Hex and Extraordinary Measures, which realistically never stood a chance. Some movies' box office performances (Robin Hood, The Wolfman) were unfairly maligned, and perhaps only disappointing to the producers who spent too much to make them. Quite a few movies were so fundamentally off the mark that it's hard to imagine that their producers expected to attract large numbers (Furry Vengeance, Repo Men, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole). The following are some of 2010's lowlights. As with the most impressive movies, these disappointing performers were determined mostly by how effectively the movies courted audiences in regards to their premises, genres, predecessors, release dates and marketing hype (budget size was a tertiary concern,...

Seth Rogen isn't exactly the likeliest candidate to star in a comic book movie. Sure, he's enjoyed a great deal of critical and commercial success in the past several years for his comedy work... but an action movie? It's something of a stretch, to say the least. Regardless, Rogen is rolling up his sleeves and getting his hands dirty with an action star role in "The Green Hornet" — and while he might be the latest, Rogen is hardly the first unlikely actor to find himself in a comic book or superhero movie.

Joan Allen and Kevin Costner are in discussions to star in MDP Worldwide's feature The Upside of Anger for filmmaker Mike Binder. Production is set to begin in late summer.
