Christopher Nolan is being linked with umpteen different films at the moment – perhaps it’s best if we rule some of them out.
Speculation has been rife in the last few weeks as to just what Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan’s next film is going to be. Universal Pictures is distributing the film, and it has a 2026 release. But what on earth is it?
Is it a vampire movie? Is it a sort-of remake of Blue Thunder? Could it be an espionage film? With each day comes a different rumour, and with that in mind, we’ve decided to do something useful. Instead of speculating as to what Nolan’s new movie is, we’ve managed to 100% rule out some projects that he won’t be taking on.

Forget butterfly clips, trucker caps, and flip phones: nothing screams the early 2000s like a Neopets or RuneScape-style online PC game. Growing up in the 2000s, the free-to-play landscape was immensely different. Hundreds of thousands of Flash games were available for free online, from the fan-made to the corporate promotional. Mostly short and sweet, these games could run even on a lower-end PC. Microtransactions were nearly unheard of, and many made games for the simple joy of creation (and a healthy dose of ad revenue). They weren't always good, but they were usually free.
Unfortunately, the browser game landscape changed drastically when Adobe stopped supporting Flash Player in 2020. This was the platform many online games were built on, and without it, many of these sites will never again see the light of day. Browser games can still run on Java, and many still exist, but the popularity of free online browser games has undeniably dwindled.

Didi is finally streaming, and the 96% fresh coming-of-age drama is gathering plenty of hype as one of the years best movies. The story follows a young boy named Didi, who learns the importance of friendship, family, and accepting yourself during his final summer before high school begins. Its a powerful story of self-worth and individualism, which has plenty of relatable moments that make it a breezy and entertaining watch for all audiences. Just like the very best coming-of-age movies, it uses humor and relatability to explore several important, mature themes.
Didi is the feature-length debut of director Sean Wang, who became known for his successful short films Sunday and Hags (Have A Good Summer). The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it opened to excellent reviews and ultimately received the US Dramatic Audience Award. Abbott and Costello. Laurel and Hardy. Martin and Lewis. Smothers and, you know, the other Smothers. The history of entertainment is filled with beloved comedy duos, whose personalities and performance styles either compliment or clash with each other perfectly. They are the stuff that whimsical legends are made of, and their hallowed halls may need to make room for a brand new iconic double act: Brandy Norwood and Kathryn Hunter.
“The Front Room” is a new horror-comedy from the twin Eggers Brothers, Sam and Max, whose older brother Robert directed the acclaimed horror films “The Witch” and “The Lighthouse.” Max Eggers has a co-writing credit on “The Lighthouse,” a bizarrely funny little nightmare about two horny men losing their minds together on a tiny island in the ocean — “Yer fond of me lobster! Say it! Say it! Say it!” — and it feels like a spiritual cousin to their newest effort.

Clifford is an extraordinary movie, and no, I’m not talking about the one with the big red dog, but rather the one where a nearly forty-year-old Martin Short plays a psychotic ten-year-old. The film is a simple one, telling the story of a young boy who is forced to stay with his uncle while his parents are on a business trip in Honolulu, but it is positively weird, full of unhinged dark comedy, slapstick, and extremely quotable moments. I still pull out, “Look at me like a human boy!” on a semi-regular basis. The film certainly isn’t for everyone, but Martin Short always believed it would be appreciated.
“I never saw any of these things that didn’t work out with the public as failures. [1994 comedy co-starring Charles Grodin] Clifford is a perfect example,” Short told THR. “That was a film that the critics hated, and no one saw but I thought was fabulous.

Contrary to recent usage of the word “weird” as a pejorative, it was years of being weird at work that brought Martin Short the adoration and respect of pretty much the entire funny-people community, not to mention a big house in the Palisades and a vacation compound in his native Canada. As Short will attest, a slightly off-kilter affect is at the heart of his artistry and appeal, as evidenced by the delightful oddballs like Ed Grimley and Jackie Rogers Jr. he played on Sctv, and his starring role in Clifford, the 1994 comedy that was panned upon release but later reassessed as dementedly genius. “Most of the odd, weird stuff I’ve done, I love,” Short says. “I think, like Sctv, they’ll stand the test of time.”
Now, at the improbable age of 74, Short is more commercially successful than he’s ever been, in no small part thanks to...

It is hard to believe (for people of a certain age), but the year 1994 was 30 years ago! For this week’s poll, we wanted to step back into the time machine and reminisce about what could possibly be considered one of the best years in cinema history. If, like me, you are in your thirties, 1994 holds a nostalgic place due to movies such as Blank Check, D2: The Mighty Ducks, Major League 2, Clifford, The Flintstones, Getting Even With Dad, Little Big League, Angels in the Outfield, The Little Rascals, Camp Nowhere, Richie Rich and Little Giants. The year also represented the huge breakout of comedy legend Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber were all released during that single calendar year.
But it wasn’t just movies aimed at a child’s heart that were released in 1994. The year also saw some genuine...

In the pouring rain, upwards of 100 people marched outside of Warner Bros. Discovery’s Park Avenue South building Tuesday afternoon in New York as part of a themed Writers Guild picket that doubled as a promise to unionize east coast animation writers.
“This has been a long, horrible battle trying to get animation writing covered. We are not giving up. I’m really just here to say that when the strike is over, when we have won the contract we deserve, we are circling back to animation,” Susan Kim, WGA East animation caucus co-chair and a writer/story editor behind hits like Arthur, Bubble Guppies, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Clifford the Big Red Dog, told a drenched crowd of picketers. “We are going to be back. We’re going to be better than ever. And we are going to get this goddamn industry organized.”

Clifford is at his biggest yet in the new official trailer for Clifford the Big Red Dog. Based on the children's book series of the same name, the new movie brings the gargantuan canine to a live-action world for the very first time. Ahead of the release of Clifford in theaters in September, Paramount Pictures has released a new poster along with the new official trailer, which you can watch below. A photo of the movie was previously leaked, but this is our first official look at the new Clifford.
The official synopsis reads: "When middle-schooler Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp) meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gifts her a little, red puppy, she never anticipated waking up to find a giant ten-foot hound in her small New York City apartment. While her single mom (Sienna Guillory) is away for business, Emily and her fun but impulsive uncle Casey...

While we got a first look at “Clifford The Big Red Dog” — which horrified some because of its blood-red color and kaiju size — the first full trailer for the live-action film shows just how impractical having a pet of that size in New York would be.
This trailer shows Clifford playing with another dog and accidentally licking it up into its mouth before spitting it back out. It also shows Clifford chasing giant inflatable balls in which people in the park are rolling around inside for exercise, only for Clifford to proudly knock them across Central Park and carry the deflated shells back to his humans.
“This dog is killing me,” Clifford’s owner (played by Jack Whitehall) says in the trailer.
The first full trailer for “Clifford The Big Red Dog” also gives a look at some of the film’s co-stars, including Kenan Thompson, Tony Hale and John Cleese.

While the nightmare child from hell genre has received its due (“Problem Child” and “Dennis The Menace” being two prominent troublemakers), perhaps none is as demented and strangely twisted like 1994’s Orion Pictures’ notorious bomb and mostly-disregarded comedy “Clifford.”
Upon its release, “Clifford” was a widely derided comedy, savagely panned by critics and ignored by audiences. In the decades since its rather brief theatrical run, “Clifford” has emerged as a cult classic with a fervent fanbase so loud that the film was screened as part of this year’s Turner Classic Movies Film Festival, with Short himself looking back at the misunderstood comedy…well, “classic,” may go to far, but you get the point (see below)
Comedian Martin Short is a unique performer, and much like a souped-up guitar amp from “Spinal Tap,” he almost always goes to 11.

We're getting some very sad news to pass along as veteran actor Charles Grodin has died. Known for his starring roles in movies like The Heartbreak Kid, Midnight Run, and Beethoven, Grodin died on Tuesday of bone marrow cancer at his home in Wilton, Connecticut. He was 86 years old.
Grodin was born on April 21, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After high school, he attended the University of Miami but dropped out to pursue a career in acting. He began by studying the craft at Hb Studio in New York City, and it wasn't long before he started to find acting roles. He made his movie debut with an uncredited role in Disney's 1954 hit 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Just a few years later, he'd land the small but memorable role of Dr. Hill in Roman Polanski's acclaimed horror flick Rosemary's Baby.
Released in 1972, The Heartbreak Kid served as a breakout movie role for Grodin.

Charles Grodin, acclaimed actor of works like “Midnight Run,” “The Heartbreak Kid,” and “Heaven Can Wait” has died at the age of 86. The actor had been fighting a battle against bone marrow cancer. Grodin became synonymous with playing taciturn, deadpan characters that were cultivated in comedies of the 1970s, but also translated perfectly to children’s features of the 1980s and 1990s like “The Great Muppet Caper” and “Beethoven.”
Grodin was born in Pittsburgh on April 12, 1935. He briefly studied at the University of Miami after high school but quickly left to pursue acting, eventually studying at the Hb Studio in New York City under the legendary Uta Hagen.
His first role was as a bit player in Walt Disney’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” in 1954 and he eventually made his debut on Broadway opposite Anthony Quinn in “Tchin-Tchin.” After making appearances on television shows like “The Virginian” and a...

For the second year in a row, the TCM Classic Film Festival is available from home and now even more accessible than ever with two ways to watch. The festival takes over TCM through Sunday, May 9 with 96 hours of movies, interviews, table reads, and world premiere restorations. The festival is also streaming on HBO Max with an almost entirely different selection from those programmed on the channel. TCM host Ben Mankiewicz told me HBO Max gives the festival an opportunity to use archive material of Robert Osborne along with new pieces created by their team to give the audience an experience similar to watching bonus features on a Blu-ray.
I spoke with Mankiewicz about making the TCM Classic Film Festival streaming experience unique, how he confused Martin Short’s 1994 movie Clifford for Clifford the Big Red Dog, and how Jon Voight talked about his support of Trump in their recent interview.

It still might be a little while before we’re able to go back to the movies again. Thankfully, with its list of new releases for February 2021, Amazon Prime is bringing the theater home. The movies are the real appeal this month.
Amazon’s offerings are highlighted by two original films of note. The first is Bliss, which premieres on Feb. 5. This will star Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek as a couple experiencing some intimacy issues. Presumably this is all just a tune up for when Wilson dons a mustache in Disney+’s Loki later in May. The other film is the sci-fi rom-com The Map of Tiny Perfect Things on Feb. 12.
Other library movies include Antz, Moulin Rouge, The Prestige, The Village, and Dazed and Confused, all of which arrive on Feb. 1. Sonic the Hedgehog is set to arrive later on Feb. 18.
Amazon is premiering only one new original series this month.

Paramount Pictures released the first look at its adaptation of the Scholastic’s popular children’s book Clifford the Big Red Dog and the large canine looked very red… or something close to it. As soon as the teaser trailer was dropped Twitter erupted with reactions — and not many of them were good.
Just search “Clifford” on Twitter and you will read the many reactions that range from creepy to hilarious. But the one thing was the look of the dog. Many were commenting about how the dog looked weird — but mostly the hue of red.
“I was trying to pin down what Clifford’s color reminds me of, and I figured it out: a blonde person who did the kool-aid hair dye thing,” tweeted BuzzFeed reporter Caroline Haskins.
Meanwhile, many people just dug into the look of the dog, not holding back on the ridicule.

There’s plenty going up on the various streaming services for users to enjoy this weekend. In particular, those who subscribe to Netflix and Disney Plus have a whole heap of new titles to dig into over the next few days. Some of the highlights include the hotly awaited return of a hit show, a few new movies and a smash hit release from 2017.
Let’s start with Friday. Netflix is serving up probably the biggest addition of the weekend with Lucifer season 5A, the first eight episodes that make up the penultimate run of the DC supernatural/crime drama starring Tom Ellis as the Devil. The trailer teased that Ellis will get to double up this year as Lucifer’s twin brother Michael comes to Los Angeles to stir up trouble and so far, at least, reactions to the new run are pretty strong.

There are slow months for streaming services and then there are “choose a decade-old Chris Nolan movie as a header image” slow months for streaming services. Amazon Prime’s August 2020 clearly falls into the latter camp.
That’s not to say that there aren’t some interesting options arriving this month. August 1 has a few intriguing movies including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Inception, Rain Man, and even Spider-Man 3. But there aren’t many Amazon originals to speak of. Chemical Hearts, starring Lili Reinhart (Riverdale) premieres on August 20. Then on August 28, subscribers can get a sneak peek at Amazon’s new The Boys after show Prime Rewind: Inside the Boys.
After that, however, it’s pretty much just Capone on August 10. And who could turn down watching Tom Hardy just being the Hardiest?

Only two episodes in and it's time for another mystery.
While Autumn's identity remains a mystery, Andre's planned casino moved to the fore on P-Valley Season 1 Episode 2.
Also, the true depths of Uncle Clifford's financial troubles were revealed.
And it doesn't look like Mercedes' career transition will be as smooth as she'd like.
It has quickly become evident that all these threads are going to end up being woven together.
Of course, the casino and Autumn are turning out to be tied together inextricably, as she and Andre grew closer, in what was an ill-advised development for both of them.
Autumn or Haley or whatever her real name is was obviously on the run, likely from the former boyfriend whose photo was on her revived phone, along with the shots of her cute daughter.
So her ex is possibly who is chasing her. Maybe his name was the last...

Along with a brief peek at Top Gun: Maverick this morning, Paramount showed off extended looks at such upcoming titles as Ang Lee’s Gemini Man, live-action/CGI hybrid Sonic: The Hedgehog, raunchy comedy Hostile Makeover, family comedy Playing With Fire, horror pic Crawl and feature adaptation Dora And The Lost City Of Gold. Studio Chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos also unveiled that Paramount is working on a new Paranormal Activity.
This is Gianopulos’ third visit to CineEurope since taking over the top job at Paramount and he noted this has been “a time of great change, growth and renaissance” for the studio. “I’m proud of the progress we started last year and proud to be working with some of the best artists in the world.”
At CinemaCon in April, Gianopulos appeared in a hilarious opening reel as he contended with a ditzy chauffeur trying to make his way across Vegas to the convention.

“The Upside,” a feel good film about the bond that forms between a wealthy quadriplegic and his caretaker, scored a surprising box office victory last weekend. The movie had to overcome a series of obstacles and setbacks before it topped charts.

"How do you get rats off an island?" From Skyfall's Silva to Harry Lime, we took at the menacing little stories told by 20 screen villains.
Occasionally, a movie villain will pause for a moment to deliver a brief story or anecdote. And often, these apparently incidental tales tell us a lot about an antagonist's state of mind, experiences or warped worldview.
We've compiled a selection of 20 here. Some of them are blackly funny. Many are disturbing. One or two are even moving. The first one's very strange. All of them bring something unique to each particular film in which they appear, and all of them are laced with a delicious hint of menace.
