After nearly three years, “Severance”, one of 2022’s most celebrated shows, is finally returning. The critically acclaimed series, which explores the sci-fi extremes of work-life balance, begins its ten-episode second season on January 17. Patricia Arquette, who earned an Emmy nomination for her role as the calculating Harmony Cobel, returns to play the office manager who stalks her employees outside of the company. As the air date approaches, Arquette is excited, but reluctant to open up too much about what lies in store. “I don’t really carry characters with me, or I try very hard not to, but ‘Severance’ is different,” she told IndieWire.

Tim Burton may have reawakened the Ghost With the Most in the recently released sequel to his 1988 comedy-horror film “Beetlejuice,” but that didn’t seem to convince the filmmaker to revisit some of his other classics.

During a Q&a at the Marrakech International Film Festival on Saturday (via IndieWire), Burton dismissed the possibility of developing a sequel to 1990’s “Edward Scissorhands,” which starred Johnny Depp as the titular role.

“There are certain films I don’t want to make a sequel to,” Burton said. “I didn’t want to make a sequel to that because it felt like a one-off thing. I didn’t want to have a sequel for ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ because it also felt like a one-off thing. Certain things are best left on their own, and that, for me, is one of them.”

Mickey Cottrell, a veteran publicist for independent films known as a champion of filmmakers and actors, died Monday at the Motion Picture Hospital in Woodland Hills, his sister Suzy Cottrell confirmed. He was 79.

If there’s a prolific director who has his own distinctive style, it’s Tim Burton. Whether the movie is hit or miss, the filmmaker has always been able to inject his personality and vision into it. He became the voice for a generation of misfits with a dark edge, who gravitated toward his films in the 80s and 90s. And faithful to the material or not, he popularized the superhero movie and established a blueprint for it. It’s natural that a documentary on such a unique talent would manifest, and according to Deadline, a new documentary series on Tim Burton will be heading to the Cannes market.

The documentary, which is currently untitled, will be a four-part series directed by Tara Wood. Wood had previously made two other documentaries about famous filmmakers with a Richard Linklater feature called 21 Years: Richard Linklater and a doc on Quentin Tarantino titled QT8: The First Eight.

Exclusive: Filmmaker Tim Burton, one of the most original voices in Hollywood history, is the subject of a four-part documentary series heading to the Cannes Market.

Tara Wood directed the Untitled Tim Burton Documentary, which features many of Burton’s most important cinematic collaborators including Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, composer Danny Elfman, Christopher Walken, Danny DeVito, Mia Wasikowska, and Christoph Waltz. Fifth Season is handling global sales at Cannes.

The series promises “an otherworldly, dream journey into the mind” of the man behind Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Batman Returns, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, the Netflix series Wednesday, and many other indelible projects.

It marks the director’s first foray into TV after a film career that spawned classics like “Beetlejuice,” “Batman,” “Edward Scissorhands” and “Ed Wood.” His animator’s apprenticeship with Walt Disney Studios in the early 1980s laid the foundation for Burton’s two Oscar nominated films, “Corpse Bride” and “Frankenweenie.” Forty years into his storied career, the multi-talented writer, producer, animator and director stepped behind the camera for his first television series.

Tim Burton is rightfully considered one of the most iconic directors of all time. At the very least, there is a distinctive, signature look to Tim Burton movies that viewers either love or hate. But this is exactly what makes Burton such a mastermind.

That being said, not each and every work in Burton's career was financially successful. Three years after nabbing his second Best Film Supporting Actor Golden Globe for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” Brad Pitt is back in the hunt for the same prize thanks to his work in Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon.” The 59-year-old, who has now been recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association seven times in less than three decades, has a chance to set a new precedent among film performers. If he succeeds on his “Babylon” bid, he will be the first person to ever win three Golden Globes for supporting film acting.

In “Babylon,” Pitt plays the role of Jack Conrad, a silent era movie star who struggles to adjust to the advent of talking pictures. This period film performance as a show business professional could be his second to lead to a Golden Globe victory, since his “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” character, Cliff Booth, was a 1960s stunt man.

Anyone hoping for a sequel to Tim Burton’s “Dumbo” shouldn’t hold their breath.

Speaking at the Lumière Festival in Lyon after receiving the Prix Lumière, Burton revealed that the 2019 film likely marked the end of his long-running creative relationship with Disney (via Deadline). He began his film career as an animator at Disney before Warner Bros. hired him to make his live-action directorial debut on “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure.” He returned to work with Disney on films like “Ed Wood,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Frankenweenie,” and most recently, “Dumbo.”

Burton believes that the entertainment landscape has shifted to the point where it no longer makes sense for him to collaborate with the entertainment giant. He explained that his experience working on “Dumbo” made him realize that Disney had gotten too big for him.

The inaugural Nuart Festival has been set for Oct. 21-30 to celebrate the reopening of the Nuart Theatre following its renovation. The 10-day fest will open with Oscar-winner Sam Mendes’ “Empire of Light” including an eclectic mixture of sneak previews and special screenings of films that made midnight movie history at the Nuart.

Among the advanced screenings is “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” from Eric Appel, and starring Daniel Radcliffe ahead of its release on The Roku Channel. Co-presented with Film Independent, the film had its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September. With Variety’s Owen Gleiberman calling it “witty and inventive.”

Members of Film Independent will receive free popcorn and drinks with ticket purchase and proof of membership.

Tim Burton, the visionary director of Batman, Bettlejuice, Ed Wood and Edward Sissorhands, will be honored with the 2022 Lumiere Award, a lifetime achievement prize, at this year’s Lumière Film Festival.

Burton will attend the Lumière festival in Lyon, France from Oct. 20 until Oct. 23 and will receive his gong on Friday, Oct. 21.

The American director joins such previous Lumière award winners as Jane Campion, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Wong Kar-wai and Quentin Tarantino.

Unveiling Burton’s award on Wednesday, the Lumière festival called him “an artist who has given world cinema a universe of rare coherence with an unprecedented impact on popular culture.”

Samuel L. Jackson may have been awarded an honorary Oscar at the 2022 Governors Awards, but the iconic actor isn’t holding his breath for an acting Academy Awards win.

Jackson revealed that he views the Oscars as a “popularity contest” not rooted in the true meaning of moviemaking: to entertain. The “Pulp Fiction” star famously was snubbed, losing to Martin Landau for Tim Burton’s “Ed Wood” in 1995.

“I heard way back when when Martin Landau got the award and I didn’t, ‘C’mon, Sam. Martin’s been nominated so many times. Don’t worry. Your time is coming.’ Excuse me? I didn’t know that’s how it worked,” Jackson told the

Los Angeles Times. “I thought it was the acting performance that made the most impact.”

Jackson added, “That’s what we’re celebrating, the big shit that happened in Hollywood. Best actor, best actress…that’s some bullshit.

Five years since Johnny Depp’s last turn as Jack Sparrow, and it seems the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise is setting its sails elsewhere.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that two more “Pirates” scripts are currently in development, but neither will include Depp’s Sparrow. Depp landed an Oscar nomination for “Pirates” installment “Curse of the Black Pearl,” and his last appearance in the Disney-owned franchise was in 2017’s “Dead Men Tell No Tales.”

“We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts — one with her, one without,” Bruckheimer told The Sunday Times for a franchise update. “[Will Depp be back?] Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided.”

Robbie’s female-led pirate adventure film was announced in 2020, with executive producer and lead star Robbie collaborating again with “Birds of Prey” scribe Christina Hodson on the script for “Pirates of the Caribbean 6.”

The famous house from “Edward Scissorhands” in Lutz, Florida is up for sale, according to Tampa’s Channel 8. If Burton’s film about the weirdness of suburbia inspired anyone to move to the suburbs, there may never be a better chance than this.

While the Bogg family home is instantly recognizable to many movie lovers, whoever buys this house will get a lot more than just the iconic facade. In 2020, the house was sold to Joey Licalzi, who worked as a dishwasher on the set of “Edward Scissorhands.” Licalzi and his wife have proceeded to turn the house into a shrine to the movie, dubbed “Scissorland.” The front yard still features the famous topiaries from the movie, and the interior features touches like replica wallpaper that mimics the film’s sets.

Samuel L. Jackson will receive an Honorary Oscar at the 2022 Governors Awards later this month, but the actor says his shelves should already be graced by at least one of the statuettes.

In an interview with Britain’s The Times, Jackson said he “should have won” 1994’s Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (Martin Landau won that year for his role as Bela Lugosi in Tim Burton’s Ed Wood).
