How has Rachel Maddow been doing on MSNBC since returning to five nights a week for the first 100 days of President Donald Trump‘s presidency? The latest viewing figures for her show hit home that she is ratings gold for MSNBC, even helping boost the shows before and after her in the cable news network’s evening schedule. Now fans are wondering what will happen when Maddow’s “100 days” are up on April 30. Will she go back to one day a week (on Mondays) or can network bosses persuade her to stay on five days a week? It’s no secret that MSNBC suffered a ratings drop following Trump’s election victory in November. According to Nielsen ratings, the network’s primetime average dropped to 660,000 total viewers and 55,000 in the coveted 25-54 demo between election day and December 31. This was a significant drop from December 2023’s average of 1.3 million...

In a move aimed at strengthening its position in the global film and television arena, São Paulo State has unveiled an Audiovisual Industry Development Plan. The initiative, led by Marília Marton, the state’s secretary of culture, economy and creative industries, introduces grants for films produced through international co-productions and launches an on-site market event—the inaugural São Paulo Audiovisual Hub—scheduled for early July.
The plan builds on the momentum generated by the post-covid recovery efforts under the Paulo Gustavo Law, which infused 378.2 million reals into the state’s cultural sectors. Marton emphasized the need for consistent support beyond one-time funding, stating, “The Paulo Gustavo Law was one-off, unique funding. Talking to the sector, I realized it now needs a systematic, multi-year support to avoid having peaks and troughs.”
The Audiovisual Hub will host a Paulo Gustavo Showcase featuring projects financed by the law. Highlighted films include Carlos Saldanha’s “100 Days,...

Brazil’s State of São Paulo, a burgeoning production epicenter home to projects like Netflix’s “Senna,” has announced its ambitious Audiovisual Industry Development Plan. Speaking with Variety ahead of a panel at the Berlin Festival’s European Film Market, Secretary of Culture, Economy, and Creative Industries of Brazil’s State of São Paulo Marília Marton reinforced the government’s commitment to “fostering continuous, sustainable initiatives” to position the state as a hub for “high-quality content production on an international level.”
The development plan — which includes strategic investments in various areas, such as governance, infrastructure, training, funding, and international promotion — comes less than two years after Brazil’s successful Paulo Gustavo Law saw a multi-million boost in São Paulo’s audiovisual production.

Since 2017, South Korean actress Han So-hee has appeared in a number of K-dramas, and each of her roles has been uniquely different, leading to some characters being way more interesting than others. Han first entered the K-drama scene in 2017 when she took on a minor role in the series, Reunited Worlds. From there, she quickly collected even more roles until she became a notable leading lady. Most recently, Han has become known for K-dramas like Gyeongseong Creature, Nevertheless, and My Name. Han is a talented actress with plenty to offer, but her characters aren't always the best.
Of the nine K-drama roles Han has originated, there are some truly amazing characters, and some more forgettable ones. Han's best characters are those with interesting storylines and plenty to do on-screen. Meanwhile, her worst characters are those who don't bring much to the plot, and worse, seem more like devices to keep...

As Brazil rebuilds as Latin America’s major production force, German film-tv giant Beta Film has made its first move outside Europe, backing Janeiro Studios, based in Rio and led by former Beta Film top exec Koby Gal Raday and Rio Fest head Ilda Santiago.
A fourth partner will be Brazilian producer Mayra Faour Auad’s MyMama Entertainment.
Gal Raday will serve as CEO, Santiago as MD.
The Studios’ launch catches Brazil’s film and TV in the first full flush of growth, sluiced by public funding with more quite possibly on the way.
Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva unveiled plans at Rio’s Quanta Studios last week to invest R$1.6 billion ($295 million) in Brazilian films and series in 2025. The sector is already receiving $516 million in Paul Gustavo Law funding, in a measure greenlit before Lula came into power.

Derek Draper, the husband of British broadcaster Kate Garraway and the subject of ITV’s Finding Derek documentary, has died aged 56.
Garraway posted the news on her Instagram this morning, announcing that her husband had been “critically ill following a cardiac arrest in early December which, because of the damage inflicted by Covid in March 2020, led to further complications.”
“I’m sad to have to tell you all that my darling husband Derek has passed away,” wrote Garraway. “Derek was surrounded by his family in his final days and I was by his side holding his hand throughout the last long hours and when he passed.”
She thanked “all the medical teams who fought so hard to save him and to make his final moments as comfortable and dignified as possible,” adding: “Sending so much love and thanks to all of you who have so generously given our family so much support.

SAG-AFTRA has now gone on strike for more than 100 days, making it the longest strike ever in SAG-AFTRA history.
On Wednesday, Mean Girls’ Lizzy Caplan and Star Trek‘s Zachary Quinto were spotted chatting as they marched along with the other SAG-AFTRA picketers in New York City.
A couple of days before, he posted an Instagram video expressing his thoughts on the SAG-AFTRA strike and encouraging members to join the picket line and stand strong with their union.
“Solidarity is the only way that we are going to get what we are asking for in this negotiation,” Quinto said.
Quinto returned to the picket line on Thursday and shortly after arriving home, posted another video on Instagram, continuing his encouragement for members and non-members to “show up.”
“This negotiation will determine the future of our industry for years to come,” he said. “It will define your ability to provide for your families.

Sports Night's cult status can be attributed to its wonderful characters, with Josh Charles' portrayal of Dan Rydell being particularly special. The series boasted a perfectly balanced ensemble, but Dan was the utility player who could fit into any story, making him a factor in every plotline and a key part of the show's overall success. Charles' performance as Dan was impressive in its balance, seamlessly switching between over-the-top comedic moments and deeper, more dramatic aspects of the character that were ahead of their time.
Sports Night is still a part of the television lexicon, 25 years after its debut on ABC, for a myriad of reasons. The series introduced TV viewers to a then still nascent Aaron Sorkin, who had penned the Academy Award-nominated films A Few Good Men and The American President -- the former based on his successful Broadway play -- but had yet to become a bona fide superstar.

The following contains spoilers for 100 Days to Indy Season 1, Episode 6, "Finally," which debuted Thursday, June 8 on The CW.
"A lot of people ask why the Indy 500 is so special," James Hinchcliffe said in the 100 Days to Indy finale. "There's no short answer to that question." The CW series' last episode was proof of that. The otherwise incredible show made the fatal mistake of cramming two weeks of Indy 500 developments -- the biggest two weeks -- into one 42-minute episode, resulting in awkward editing and important storylines that didn't get the chance to breathe. However, that didn't mean it's a failure; on the other hand, the finale proved how hard it is to make a great documentary about a live sporting event.
100 Days to Indy started as IndyCar's long-overdue media platform, but "Finally" demonstrated the challenges of bringing something to TV that hasn't fully been seen before. The...

It was the kind of professional nightmare that sports documentary filmmakers can only dream about: Graham Rahal, the veteran IndyCar driver and six-time race winner, was slowest in qualifying for the Indy 500 on Sunday – a day that ended in tears and baffled defeat for the 34-year-old still seeking his first win at Indianapolis.
With 34 cars trying to qualify for 33 spots, the son of open-wheel legend Bobby Rahal suddenly found himself out of the world’s biggest race, holding his head in his hands and sobbing. For an extra storytelling flourish, Rahal’s dad and team co-owner Bobby Rahal – whose team partners include David Letterman – had the exact same thing happen to him exactly 30 years ago.
Then, one day later, all the melodrama that went down on the track would be turned completely upside-down. And it was all on camera for the documentary crew shooting the CW’s “100 Days to Indy” series,...

In 2000, when Upn landed The Hughleys from ABC as well as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Roswell from The WB Network, industry insiders dubbed it the “Used Parts Network.” Flash forward two decades and The CW’s roster of homegrown scripted originals has tumbled from 18 in the 2021-22 broadcast season to only two shows, with three remaining on the bubble at press time.
The writing has been on the wall for what has become of The CW — whose current name represents its former owners, CBS Studios and Warner Bros. TV. But what is The CW’s brand under station group Nexstar, which has vowed to make the formerly younger-skewing network profitable by 2025? With CBS Studios and Warners now owning a mere 12.5 percent of the network each and Nexstar’s new focus on low-cost acquisitions and unscripted fare, The CW’s brand now may best be described as “Castoffs Wanted” or even “Curated Wreckage.

Through the decades, his notable films have included "Ram Lakhan", "Yudh", "Karma", "Parinda", "Tridev", "Kala Bazaar", "Vardi", "Doodh Ka Karz", "100 Days", "Angaar", "Khalnayak", "Rangeela", "Agnisakshi", "Bandhan", and the recent "Radhe".
It has been a journey where Jackie, 64, has taken the rough with the smooth. Has the thought of losing stardom ever scared him?
