Rest easy, Army. A BTS comeback is officially confirmed, as Hybe announced that the group - who are currently on hiatus as its members complete their mandatory service in the Korean military and their solo activities - have individually renewed their contracts with their label, Bighit Music. Hybe announced the news on Sept. 20 in a statement (via Soompi), sharing, "The board of directors has completed [their decision] on renewing the exclusive contracts of all seven members of Bighit Music's artist BTS." While ARMYs always knew BTS intended to reunite after their hiatus, this news is a welcome confirmation. This marks BTS's second contract renewal with Hybe since their debut in 2013.
BTS first announced their ongoing hiatus in June 2022, four days after they released their anthology album "Proof." On June 14, 2022, they released their final Festa content, a video of the group gathering for dinner and drinks to celebrate their ninth anniversary, and while...

Corey Feldman was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession in Louisiana over the weekend. It's hard to believe that it's 2017 and people are still arrested for possession of small amounts of marijuana, but that's exactly what happened to the 80s icon and muscian on Saturday. The actor is currently on tour to support his recently released album, Angelic to the Core, and was on his way to Houston to play a Hurricane benefit show when he was pulled over for speeding in his touring recreational vehicle.
When pulled over, police discovered that 46-year old Corey Feldman was driving on a suspended license, which led to Feldman having to go to the station. After taking Feldman and four of his crew to the police station, an officer smelled marijuana and searched Feldman. Five other people in the crew were charged with separate offences. Kate Winslet can do anything ... except save this movie from quirky overkill. The Dressmaker, based on a 2000 novel by Rosalie Ham, gives the actress a hell of a role. She's Tilly Dunnage, a 1950's fashionista who's decided to return home to dusty Dungatar (an apt name), the small Aussie town that spawned her. Tilly got run out of Dungatar 20 years ago, when she was just a 10 year-old, for allegedly murdering her schoolmate Stewart Pettyman. Everyone believes she bashed the kid's skull in – including her snaggle-toothed old mum, Molly (Judy Davis,...

While we’re quite excited about the current Toronto International Film Festival line-up, there’s still some star-studded features form last year’s festival awaiting a U.S. release. One of the bigger ones is 1950s set romantic drama The Dressmaker, which stars Kate Winslet. Amazon has now picked it up and teaming with Broad Green for a release this fall.
Directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse (Proof) the film follows Winslet as a glamorous dressmaker who returns home to her remote Australian country town from which she fled as a child after being accused of murder. Also starring Liam Hemsworth, Hugo Weaving, Sarah Snook, Judy Davis and Caroline Goodall, check out the trailer below, which doesn’t quite measure up to the crazy Italian poster.

When I sit through a film such as Zootropolis, Rango, Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph, Eddie The Eagle or Coraline, I can’t help but be thankful somebody has bothered. As a parent as well as a movie lover, I’ve grown to really dislike family movies that just turn up to act as a surrogate babysitter for 90 minutes, with no intention of becoming anybody’s favourite film. The films I'm going to talk about are the family movies therefore that I think both try and do something a bit more, yet continue to fly under many people's radar.
A bonus mention before we get going, and number 26 in the list, much to my surprise: Alvin & The Chipmunks 4. I was expecting next to zero from it, courtesy...

Margaret Pomeranz is on the hustings, trying to raise $25,000 to restore Jocelyn Moorhouse's 1991 film Proof, which launched the careers of Russell Crowe and Hugo Weaving.
Pomeranz, an ambassador for the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (Nfsa), made the first contribution on Pozible.
"I'm making the first donation because it was a bit rich to ask you guys to put money into this campaign, and me just sitting back and saying 'Hey, why don't you do it?'", Pomeranz said..
The veteran critic called Proof "an extraordinary debut feature by Jocelyn Moorhouse and producer Lynda House: two young women that took the Australian film industry by storm.".
"It's an intriguing exploration of one man's lack of trust in the world, and how he goes about achieving it. But does he really? Even though it's a story about a man, I don't think it could have been written or made by a man.

The last time Vulture talked with Kate Winslet, about her role in the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, she was drinking rosé while cooking a chicken. We caught up with the actress again last week at the Toronto Film Festival to discuss The Dressmaker, a manic, absurdist Australian comedy-drama from director Jocelyn Moorhouse (Proof, A Thousand Acres) based on the novel by Rosalie Ham. The book and film are about a Paris-trained seamstress who returns to her minuscule hometown in desolate southeast Australia, from which she was exiled as a child for allegedly killing a boy — and winds up outfitting the entire female population in couture. The tone is more menacing than it sounds — Moorhouse has called it “Unforgiven with a sewing machine” — and the juxtaposition of all that 1950s glamour against those gnarled bushes and tumbleweeds is striking. Plus, it involves Winslet spending some quality time with Liam...

Australian filmmaker Jocelyn Moorhouse has had an odd career. After making an auspicious home-turf debut with 1991’s Proof — about a blind photographer, his housekeeper and his best friend (played by Russell Crowe) — she offered up gloppy back-to-back slices of deep-dish Americana: one sweet (the Winona Ryder-led ensemble piece How to Make an American Quilt), one sour (her adaptation of Jane Smiley’s novel A Thousand Acres, with Michelle Pfeiffer and Jessica Lange). Following an 18-year hiatus, Moorhouse is behind the camera — and down under — again, though it would be a stretch

A needle and thread is an unexpected combination that changes lives in the forthcoming "The Dressmaker." Well that, coupled with movie star good looks. And the first trailer has landed for the bittersweet Aussie comedy that pairs up Kate Winslet and Liam Hemsworth. Based on the book by Rosalie Ham, co-written by P.J. Hogan ("Muriel's Wedding") and directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse ("Proof," "A Thousand Acres"), the story follows a woman who returns to her small hometown after years away working in classy fashion houses. And her arrival certainly shakes things up. Here's the official synopsis: Based on the best-selling novel by Rosalie Ham, The Dressmaker is a bittersweet, comedy-drama set in early 1950s Australia. Tilly Dunnage (Kate Winslet), a beautiful and talented misfit, after many years working as a dressmaker in exclusive Parisian fashion houses, returns home to the tiny middle-of-nowhere town of Dungatar to right the wrongs...

When the movie version of My Fair Lady premiered — 50 years ago today — it was an adaptation of a stage show that was a musical remake of a play that was loosely based on an ancient myth. Once again: “originality” is not that big a deal and never has been. Proof has continued in the legacy of all these properties in the half century since. Even now on television there is a sitcom so admittedly based on Pygmalion that the characters are named Eliza Dooley and Henry Higgs. The fact that most people call this show, Selfie, a modern take on the musical rather than George Bernard Shaw‘s earlier drama is not a surprise. Different generations have their reference point. In She’s All That, for instance, Rachel Leigh Cook’s character says, “I feel just like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. You know, except for the whole hooker thing.” She...

Ja from Mnpp here - have you guys heard about The Dressmaker? It's the new movie from Jocelyn Moorhouse (How To Make An American Quilt, Proof), which she adapted from a 2000 novel by Rosalie Ham, and it's about a woman who returns to her small hometown after being accused or murder; there she sets out to 1) make amends with her eccentric mother, and 2) show the town's ladies the power of excellent haute couture, and 3) get revenge on the people who wrong her, and 4) falls in love with Liam Hemsworth. Okay I am getting a little ahead of myself there with the Hemsworth thing since I haven't mentioned any of the rest of the casting, which is the real meat and potatoes...
... since the stylish accused-murderess is being played by Kate Winslet and her eccentric mother is being played by Judy Davis. Excuse me I'm sorry you're supposed to always type...

It’s nearly time for Cannes, and the lead-up to one of the industry’s biggest events comes more casting news. Today we’re hearing that Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) and Isla Fisher (Now You See Me) have signed on to star alongside Kate Winslet and Judy Davis in period drama, The Dressmaker.
While no further details have been released on which roles the pair will tackle, the plot itself sounds like the stuff of awards gold. Based on the novel by Rosalie Ham, the story follows Tilly (Winslet), a woman who returns to her hometown after she and her mother fled (because she was accused of murder) when she was a child. No doubt her return is bound to ruffle the feathers of her detractors – whom she wows with her big city wit and unusual fashion. It’s not long before Tilly’s on a revenge kick to...

Welcome back to the Nxt reviews, this week’s show starts with a promo video hyping Fandango appearing at tonight’s Nxt taping. Faaaaaan-daaaaaan-goooooo.
We head to ringside as the ring announcer introduces Summer Rae and Fandango for a mixed tag team match. Johnny Curtis is back in Nxt, a fact I’m sure he isn’t exactly giddy about. Emma makes her way out, in new ring attire, with her chosen partner for the night, Santino Marella. Oh dear. The fans, for some reason I can’t put my finger on anymore, pop loud for Santino. Santino speed walks and Emma does it too. The fans, before anything has really happened, chant “this is awesome”. Proof that there’s still some steam in the Santino train yet. Santino poses for the crowd and Fandango retorts with a dance move of two. The match from then on is merely a...

Kate Winslet and Judy Davis are set to team for Jocelyn Moorhouse's bittersweet tragicomedy feature "The Dressmaker".

Sue Maslin ("Japanese Story") will produce, and shooting begins in Victoria early next year with the Wimmera and Mallee regions currently being considered.
The project is the first film Moorhouse has directed since 1997's "A Thousand Acres," though she has produced numerous films since then along with helming stage plays like the recent "Sex With Strangers".
She is best known for 1995's "How to Make an American Quilt" and one of Russell Crowe's early breakout works - 1991's "Proof". She was to shoot the project...

You can count on one thing when a period drama is announced. It’ll likely star one of the English K’s. Keira Knightley or Kate Winslet. Having turned her hand to nigh on every on-screen profession, Kate Winslet has signed on to star in and as The Dressmaker.
Based on the novel by Rosalie Ham, the English Rose will take the lead in the 1950s-set period thriller. She will play Tilly, a woman once ostracised by her community. After being accused of murder she returns home to exact her revenge. Here’s the book’s official blurb from publisher Duffy and Snellsgrove:
Dungatar is a small country town, where the townspeople’s eccentricities are many and varied – from Sergeant Farrat’s predilection for cross-dressing, to pharmacist Almanac’s retributive scheme of potion dispensing, not to forget the affairs and assorted dark secrets. Mahler's Symphony No. 3 in D minor is his longest, a six-movement ode to Nature and the World. It includes a children's choir and a contralto soloist but is largely instrumental, using a quite large orchestra complete with posthorn, harps, English horn, bass clarinet, contrabassoon, bass trombones, and a lot more brass than usual. Mahler's nature is not exclusively a calm pastoral scene -- it's stormy, uneasy, sometimes threatening, with mysterious rustling and twittering, yet with rays of sunlight cutting through the shadows at times.
This work had a long and confusing path from conception to completion. Mahler wrote movements II through VI in the summer of 1895. The following year, he worked on a first movement, weaving in elements of the movements he’d written in '95. That movement kept growing and growing -- at least a half an hour long, by itself it as long as all of Beethoven's First Symphony.

Have you ever loved a performance so much that your subsequent disinterest in the same actor is actually hard to wrap your head around? That's me when it comes to Russell Crowe.

Australian director Phillip Noyce says he’s happy to be back in the Hollywood “selling machine” with his latest spy action thriller Salt, instead of having to find an audience for his films.
“After 10 years, I was feeling bruised and battered by having to work to find audiences for those [independent] films. It was almost like finding each audience member one by one, at each cinema, around Australia and the rest of the world,” Noyce told Encore.
Noyce said that it wasn’t the making of Rabbit Proof Fence, The Quiet American and Catch a Fire that left him bruised, but convincing people to see them.
“That’s Hollywood’s greatest achievement; getting people to see the movies they make. I was happy to be back in that selling machine; the chance to jump on a moving rollercoaster was irresistible.
“I’m not getting any younger, and I’ve been out...

Starring popular Korean musician Rain with British actors Naomie Harris and Ben Miles not to mention being produced by creative geniuses the Wachowski Brothers and Hollywood hot-shot Joel Silver make...

I've been a fan of Russell Crowe since I first saw him in a couple of little films. The first was Proof, the second, Romper Stomper. The dude was intense all the way back then. In fact, when I found that I was going to interview him for Robin Hood I got a little nervous. But since I spent one interview with Ridley Scott and Russell chatted it up [Ed. note: look for that interview tomorrow], I began to lose the anxiety. After all, he is just a guy right? Well, you know what? Yeah, he...

Hugo Weaving is simply one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood. I remember first seeing him, along with Russell Crowe, in the cool little flick called Proof. And since then, he has done a couple of movies you may have heard of. From The Matrix trilogy, to V For Vendetta and yes, of course The Lord Of The Rings, he has managed to be a part of some of the biggest films in history. I.d never met him before, but I was certainly excited to do so. He is a wonderful actor and he is an...

Exhausted the classic canon? Fed up with the current cinema of remakes, reboots and reimaginings? This week The Cold Case exhumes an early, underappreciated work by one of Australia's best-known acting exports.
Long before he voiced the rumbling Megatron in two Transformers outings, put male hair braidists back in business as Elrond in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy and tortured poor Keanu Reeves on behalf of the machines across three Matrix films, Hugo Weaving electrified discerning audiences with his breakout role in 1991's Proof, a little Australian film that was also an early calling card for a slender young chap named Russell Crowe.
