The Walt Disney Company is probably best known for its many iconic cartoon characters, like Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Mickey's friends, like Donald Duck and Goofy, are also extremely popular and part of what makes Walt Disney memorable. These characters have their own stories, lives and families, and they also share many adventures together. Goofy, in particular, is a character with a unique backstory, as he first had a different name and even a different family dynamic. But in later years, the Goofy, whom many know and love, is a single dad with a son named Max.

Disney movies don't always get the recognition they deserve, with many incredible animated features being painfully undersung by even the company's most die-hard fans. The well-known films of Disney's golden age are household titles, with films like The Lion King, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid needing little introduction in the minds of most. But occasionally, Disney will release a brilliant film that isn't fairly appreciated in its time, going relatively unheard of compared to their more famous catalog.
It's rare that Disney princesses go forgotten, with many of the company's most underrated animated films revolving around different subject matter. Some of these movies simply failed to resonate with audiences for superficial reasons such as this, whereas others were the victim of poor timing, being released in inopportune windows or suffering from poor advertising. Whatever the case, these Disney movies deserve a second chance from the masses who have easily dismissed...

The 1990s were an important time in the history of animation. The decade was marked by a lot of innovation and diversification in storytelling, art style and sound design. It was a peak moment thus far for children's television networks like Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Disney Channel. And many now-obscure gems from that period stood the test of time.
The nostalgia of '90s cartoons is naturally more often linked to the most popular TV shows. From American classics like Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, The Wild Thornberrys and Animaniacs to anime like Sailor Moon, the hits overshadow the shows that were less popular in this crowded period. However, that doesn't mean the forgotten cartoons of the decade weren't as good as the ones that are easily remembered. The best 90s' cartoons everyone forgot about include Gargoyles, Magic Knight Rayearth and Doug, among other examples that go head-to-head with the greatest.

A Goofy Movie is an underrated animated gem, exploring family bonds & teenage struggles with humor & heartwarming moments. Robin Hood's innovative approach, dark themes, & unique cast of anthropomorphic characters make it a standout in Disney's canon. The Black Cauldron's visual marvel, dark fantasy elements, and detailed world-building set it apart as a daring, underrated Disney film.
Despite being rated rotten on Rotten Tomatoes, some underrated animated Disney movies are actually quite great. In Rotten Tomatoes jargon, a film or TV production being "rotten" refers to it receiving a low or average rating from critics and audiences. Typically, if scored below 60%, it is considered to be rotten. Conversely, more highly-rated films gain the title of "fresh," but it's not uncommon for critics' scores and audience scores to wildly differ.
To guard against that binary system being exploited, Rotten Tomatoes has now incorporated a new audience score rating called the Popcornmeter.

Episodes of classic shows on Disney+ are often missing or altered, sparking confusion among fans. Reasoning behind missing episodes varies from content concerns to licensing issues. Alterations to episodes range from removal of specific scenes to changing licensed music tracks.
For many fans, the idea that there are Simpsons episodes not on Disney Plus makes no sense. The streaming service has continued to evolve since its November 2019 launch. One thing that remains a growing pain for some fans is the number of episodes of classic television series that are out of order or missing completely. As Disney+ mines the past for content, mistakes are bound to happen. But, in some cases, the decision to alter or leave out content altogether is a deliberate decision by Disney+.
While some episodes and scenes in classic shows have not aged well, the latest original shows on the streaming platform aren't immune to changes.

If we listen to each other’s heart, we’ll find we love A Goofy Movie as cinematic art!
Okay, that isn’t how the lyrics to the now famous “I 2 I” song first heard in 1995’s A Goofy Movie go but they reflect how the world at large views the film these days. Thanks to a generation of kids watching the movie over and over on VHS, endless cosplays of rock star Powerline, and the irresistible god-tier quality of Tevin Campbell’s musical contributions, A Goofy Movie is more beloved today than it’s ever been.
But with so many repeated viewings little questions start to appear in the mind of fans. Why didn’t the movie, a sort of sequel to the Goof Troop TV series, include the other members of antagonist Pete’s family, Peg and Pistol? How in the hell did Goofy and Max get to...

Opening TV theme songs have tragically become a lost art. On one level, it makes sense. As the line between television and film has grown increasingly blurry in the 21st century, opening titles have become more and more cinematic. The mix of simple earworms and dialogue-free visuals in the opening titles of shows like "Mad Men" are eloquent works of art in and of themselves. It just wouldn't have the same effect if, instead of David Carbonara's haunting suite accompanied by minimalistic animation of an ad man's world literally falling apart, you had someone singing about that ol' scoundrel Don Draper and how his dastardly, womanizing ways are coming back to bite him (as amazing as that sounds).
Of course, things were different when Sherwood Schwartz created "Gilligan's Island." The show required a tad more exposition than your run-of-the-mill sitcom at the time. Whereas series like "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie...

Despite Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto being classified as the five "main" characters in the Disney canon (aka "The Fab Five"), it's actually the barrel-chested Pete who arrived before them all in 1925. Originally, Pete was a bear but evolved into Mickey's archnemesis for a time before settling into his role as the loudmouth cat often playing opposite of Goofy as we know and love him today. This new affiliation began in 1992 with the animated series "Goof Troop," which followed Goofy as a single father after he and his son Max moved back to his hometown of Spoonerville. The family ends up moving next door to Pete, a used car salesman with the integrity of Harry Wormwood in "Matilda," his real-estate agent wife Peg, their son P.J., and daughter Pistol. Max and P.J. become fast friends, forcing the two families to connect, and inspiring plenty of hijinks because of it.

As part of Variety’s 100 Greatest Shows of All Time issue, we asked writers on our staff to name their favorite cult shows — series that may lack the clout, the following, or the prestige to quite notch an entry on our list, but ones for which our writers have a special fondness. Here are seven shows that are, to us, the greatest.
Alias
So the central mythology, about the mystical inventor Milo Rambaldi, came to little as the show went on. No big deal. On “Alias,” it was all about the ride. That’s meant very literally: Each week, the show crash-landed into an episode-ending cliffhanger. As played by a luminous, game, and utterly committed Jennifer Garner, superspy double agent Sydney Bristow changed her loyalties, her allies, and her wigs. The only constant in her life was chaos, into which a writing team led by J.J. Abrams thrust her week after week.

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or Snes, is still heralded as one of the greatest consoles that any video game company has ever released. Its legacy is defined by hits within well-known Nintendo franchises like Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Kirby, Zelda, and Star Fox.
However, there is a long list of titles that were launched on Snes that acted as tie-ins or adaptations to popular movies and TV series. As was always the case with the jump from screen to console, there were a few duds among the release schedule as studios looked for an easy way to cash in on a familiar property. However, just because there are those video games that players would be best off forgetting, that doesn’t mean there aren’t genuine gems from Snes history. These movie and TV titles, which were released on the Super Nintendo, both captured the essence of their...

After almost thirty years, the ancient Viking spell that has bound the heroic creatures of the night is about to be broken, as the cult-classic Disney Afternoon series Gargoyles is getting a live-action reboot. Created by writer Greg Weisman (the person behind the equally underrated and beloved Spectacular Spider-Man and Young Justice), Gargoyles debuted on the popular animation block Disney Afternoon in 1994, airing for a grand total of three seasons and 78 episodes. A unique kind of superhero story that doesn't rely on the well-known pre-established characters of Marvel or DC, Gargoyles centers on a team of ancient Dark Ages beings who have vowed to protect humanity from any threats, both modern and primordial. While not nearly the heavy-hitting series for Disney Afternoon like Ducktales or Goof Troop, Gargoyles was still a big enough hit to warrant a dedicated following. It was an entirely original and surprisingly dark superhero series that...

When it comes to iconic Disney animated characters, Goofy comes up a few notches below Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse. Those two saw massive popularity early on in the company's lifespan, and even got to lead theatrical movies like 1944's "The Three Caballeros" with Donald, or Mickey starring in the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" episode of the 1940 film "Fantasia." Goofy's appeal was different, less wide-ranging, and more eccentric than a perpetually exasperated duck or a blandly kind mouse. You couldn't even tell what species he was, although his longtime voice actor Bill Farmer claims he is a dog.
Goofy eventually did get to lead a theatrical film, although several decades after his 1932 debut. The character was best known for Disney shorts those days, and for his cartoony antics in them. As you could guess from his name, he was careless and clumsy, and his oblivious goofball shtick would often result in wildly elaborate slapstick.

It's one of the tragic moments of adulthood. You sit down to watch a film you idolized in your childhood — and haven't seen in just as long — only to discover a far less magical or even entertaining experience. Luckily, that's absolutely not the case with the 1995 Disney classic "A Goofy Movie," which I recently treated myself to a rewatch of. I am happy to report that the movie is still as heartwarming and hilarious as I remember it. From the big laughs of the Bigfoot scene to the teary eyes I still get when Max and Goofy finally reconcile.
But from the very beginning, Disney had less than stellar expectations for "A Goofy Movie" compared to bigger features like "The Lion King" or "Pocahontas." In fact, it wasn't even developed by Walt Disney Animation Studios (then called Walt Disney Feature Animation) but rather by a subdivision called Disneytoon Studios that...

Ever since getting the role of Snow Job in the ’80s GI Joe animated series, Rob Paulsen realized that his future was not in a local rock band or appearing in commercials, but in the realm of voice acting. Through the decades, Paulsen has taken on many iconic roles, such as Raphael from the ’80s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Donatello from the 2012 reboot, Carl Wheezer from Jimmy Neutron, Mighty Max, Major Glory from Dexter’s Lab, Pj from Goof Troop, Steelbeak from Darkwing Duck, Buck Tuddrussel from Time Squad, and hundreds more.

The Mouse House launches its Disney Plus streaming service this November, offering arguably the biggest rival to Netflix’s dominance in the field to date. When the third season of “Stranger Things” hits this summer, fans can binge-watch the show on Netflix or they can play through the entire season in a pixelated ’80s-inspired game.
But Dave Pottinger, “Stranger Things 3: The Game’s” director, hopes they’ll do both.
Not only will the game hit on July 4, the same day the show goes live, and feature the same storyline, it will offer up to fans a chance to delve into pockets of the story not seen in the television show, moments that happen off-screen and which are only referenced in the series.
Pottinger, co-founder and CEO of developer BonusXP, noted that it’s the second “Stranger Things” game the company has worked on, having previously developed “Stranger Things: The Game” for mobile between Seasons 1 and 2. “With this one, we wanted to go bigger,” he said. “So it’s a larger, more inclusive experience.

For the feathered family featured in Disney Xd’s DuckTales revival, the real mystery begins at home.
RelatedBug Juice: Disney Channel Reviving Summer Camp Reality Show
Sure, DuckTales — which originally aired from 1987 to 1990 — seems like a simple concept on the surface: Three color-coordinated duck brothers move in with their miserly uncle, the duck version of A Christmas Carol‘s Ebeneezer Scrooge, whom they accompany on a number of perilous adventures. But beneath the show’s adorable, big-eyed facade lurks a slew of disconcerting questions, including: Where are these kids’ parents?

Disney's Gargoyles was filled to the brim with creativity, mythology and great characterisation...
To get a sense of why Disney series Gargoyles stands as one of the more ambitious animated serials to have come out of the 90s, a good place to start is the episode Avalon Part 2. The second in a three part narrative taken from the show’s elongated second season, it begins with one iteration of the villainous Archmage, voiced with glorious ham by David Warner, asking a doppelganger whether he’s certain he knows what to do. To which the doppelganger replies “I should… I watched you do it.”

Many of us know the Super Nintendo classics, but do you remember all of the console's most underappreciated games?
This year marks 25 years since the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was released; a momentous occasion for video game fans growing up in the 90s. Even though the Big N has released four more consoles since, many Nintendo fans would say the Snes is still the best console that the House of Mario has ever released.
A lot of the console's success has to do its with roster of games. From third-party titles to Nintendo's own franchises, this was an era that showcased the platform's total dominance over the industry, even as the Sega Genesis proved to be a strong competitor. It’s not difficult to see why: just looking at Nintendo's own IPs, it's easy to argue that Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and The Legend Of Zelda...

You've played all the hits, but have you ever tried these underrated Snes classics?
Even though the Big N has released five more consoles since the Super Nintendo, many Nintendo fans would say the Snes is still the best console that the House of Mario has ever released.
Much of the console's success has to do with its roster of games, of course. From third-party titles to Nintendo's own franchises, this was an era—from 1990 to 1996—that showcased the platform's total dominance over the industry, even as the Sega Genesis proved to be a strong competitor—and we all know who won that console arms race in the end. It’s not difficult to see why: Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past are the very best games in their respective series. And that's not even counting games made by outside studios,...

Is there aaaaanyone here who hasn’t seen at least a video clip of Winnie-the-Pooh and Tigger Too at some point? I know I’ve seen plenty – Winnie-the-Pooh was a part of my childhood, and is now a part of the childhood of this Auntie Em’s little nephew and nieces. And would it blow your mind to learn that since the 1990s, Winnie-the-Pooh and Tigger too have been…dun dun duuuuun…the same person? Because they have! Well, at least when it comes to the guy who does their voices.
This is one of the things I adore about voice actors – how versatile they are, and how they can do so many voices that just sound nothing like each other; even when the characters are in conversation together. It’s really amazing.
If you know anything about voice actors, you’ll know that when I talk about the voice of Pooh and Tigger,...

Big Brother 15 has seen more alliances than any other season. The Moving Company and the Blonde-tourage met early deaths. The Grasshoppers died before it was born. The Knockouts and its sub-alliance, the Goof Troop, ended when they all betrayed Judd. The Mom Squad has been cut in half and with Elissa nominating Aaryn and McCrae, 3 A.M. is looking shaky. But now a new group has formed, and it could be the one you've been waiting for.

There have been lots of showmances on "Big Brother 15," but the one now working the ladies to his best advantage is J-u-Double-d Party Daugherty (in his adorable Tennessee accent, "Daugherty" rhymes with "Party," that's where that comes from, just Fyi).
Read on to find out who Judd is romancing, or just sign up for the live feeds to watch the inevitable blow-up in the house in this regard.
So, Judd and Jessie have been snuggle bunnies in the house for weeks now. And it has seemed to an outside observer (watching on the feeds, anyway) that Judd likes Jessie. Maybe not like he's ready to run away and marry her, but he seems to enjoy her company.
However, he has lately been telling his alliance, the Goof Troop, that he actually hates Jessie and needs to distance himself from her. Of course, then he goes right back to snuggling with Jessie,...

The gaming is ramping up for the week in the "Big Brother 15" house. Read on to find out what went down Saturday night (July 27), including some sexy time and some more racism! Or just sign up for the live feeds so you can take it all in for yourself.
In game news, Spencer is obviously going to take himself off the block with the Veto. Aaryn is most likely going to nominate Candice in his place, leaving Howard, Candice and Amanda on the block.
The How/Spe/Can alliance has started working on trying to get the house to flip on Amanda and vote her out, but so far they aren't having much luck. Helen and Elissa are acting like they might be interested, but they know they would still need two more votes (because they have Spencer) and they don't think they can get two more votes (and they're...

There are four weeks down in the "Big Brother 15" house, with the first woman having been evicted Thursday night (July 25). We're going to break down the houseguests every week for you, but sign up for the live feeds if you'd like to watch all the craziness for yourself.
Beware of slight spoilers below, just talking a little about the live feeds after the live eviction show ended last night.

caveat -- these rankings are based solely on game play, not any remarks players have been making in the house.
1. Helen (last week 2)
Helen has been at no. 1 or 2 for three weeks now. She is one of the people in the house most in control -- she's got her ear to the ground, everybody likes her, she's very smart. Last night, she finally realized that Elissa isn't helping her game and has brought Aaryn into the fold...

There were some rumblings in the "Big Brother 15" house last night (July 19) about the Mvp twist and what exactly Elissa is up to. Read on to find out what's going on, or just sign up for the live feeds -- America's nominee will be revealed later today.
So, some of the hamsters have figured out the Mvp twist -- both Aaryn and Kaitlin have voiced that they think it'll be America naming the third nominee. No one knows for sure, of course, but it has added fuel to the fire that Elissa is not meant to stick around the game for longer than 4-5 weeks.
Elissa has been heard saying she doesn't want to make it to sequester, she'd rather go home to her family. And now she is insisting she's not Mvp, because she would have been called to the Diary Room to be told she's Mvp last night and she was not.

I’ve been revisiting my childhood on YouTube and podcasts a lot lately; and for this I place the blame squarely on voice actor Rob Paulsen – voice of Yakko Warner, Dr. Otto Scratch’n’sniff, and Pinky, of Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. Well, if I was going to be fair, the daisy chain of blame would stretch all the way back through Twitter; Billy West; the organizers of Awesome Con; Mike Gold; Deadpool; a couple of federal judges; Glenn Hauman; Glenn’s lovely wife Brandy; Ya author Esther Friesner; and Terry Pratchett and the Discworld. But that’s way too convoluted, so Rob, it’s all your fault!
At some point in my childhood, I became a latchkey kid. Both of my parents worked until after school let out, and although there was a lot of “homework time” and “chore time” in my day, I fondly remember the...

Cinderella II: Dreams Come True
Directed by John Kafka
Written by Jill E. Blotvogel, Tom Rogers, Julie Selbo
Starring Jennifer Hale, Corey Burton, Russi Taylor, Holland Taylor
How low can expectations get? Because mine, regarding the Disney direct-to-video/DVD sequels, are as low as is humanly possible. I don’t actually expect legitimate quality from these films, but I forlornly hope for just a bit. And why not? Some people may scoff at this idea, or even raise their eyebrows quizzically when they realize that, yes, we’re going to look at all of the Dtv sequels on this podcast. But what frustrates me most about these films is the precise reason they exist: they’re cheap. Why are there so many of these movies? They make a ton of money, because they cost very little to produce. But because they cost very little to produce, the quality is low at best.

“Fresh out the box. Stop, look, and watch. Ready yet. Get set. It’s All That!” Now join in with TLC(!) and sing the rest of the theme song as you reminisce about the joys of All That, Nickelodeon’s comedy/variety show that aired from 1994–2000 and again from 2002–2005. But let’s be clear, the All That I fondly remember included a cast of Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Lori Beth Denberg, and Amanda Bynes. A golden era of kid comedy, if you will. I refuse to acknowledge the later reincarnation which featured the likes of Jamie Lynn Spears.

Months before I knew I’d be taking the Goof beat in EW’s trip down ’90s nostalgia lane, I came across A Goofy Movie while channel surfing and began watching the whole thing with more enthusiasm than I remember ever feeling when I first watched the TV series. At the time, I wasn’t sure if that was because it had been so long since I watched the show, or if it was one of those rare occurrences where the movie was better than the series from which it originated.

Few things are able to lure me away from writing about Burn Notice, Lost and Supernatural, but when I heard that someone has created a shot-for-shot live-action remake of the amazing song “After Today” from the cult-hit Disney film, A Goofy Movie, I immediately stopped seeking out True Blood spoilers in order to bring this gem to you, the reader.
Being a child in the 80s and 90s meant that I’ve had the pleasure of seeing all of Disney’s major animated classics in the theater. And while they were all entertaining, it wasn’t until I heard that they were going to be making a film based on the television series Goof Troop that I had my first ever must-see film.

The movie itself is critic-proof, but the box office, DVD and Blu-ray sales are not. It seems that Disney’s nigh endless well of self-made stars may finally be starting to dry out – and not a moment too soon. Since the Disney Channel shifted away from playing old episodes of Tale Spin, Goof Troop and Gummi Bears all those years ago, they’ve been on an endless and seemingly unstoppable quest to create and market a new generation of stars. Unto itself, that’s not a bad goal. But even after unleashing Shia LeBoeuf on the world, Disney’s thirst for creating celebrity legacies became insatiable. Hannah Montana. Miley Cyrus. And now the Jonas Brothers; but unlike Hillary Duff, the Jonas Brothers don’t even have the smallest modicum of talent – and Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience makes that clear in as many dimensions as it can.
