This Time Next Year tells the story of Minnie and Quinn, two people born just minutes apart on New Year’s Day 1990 in the same London hospital. Directed by Nick Moore, it stars Sophie Cookson as Minnie and Lucien Laviscount as Quinn. Released in 2024, the movie is an adaptation of Sophie Cousens’ novel of the same name.
Minnie has always felt cursed by her birthday, with bad luck following her year after year. She runs a pie business in north London but struggles to find success. Quinn, on the other hand, has lived a charmed life thanks to his birthday.
He comes from wealth, as his family won a sizable prize for having the first baby of the new year. The two protagonists cross paths by chance one New Year’s Eve after Minnie has another run of misfortune. Though they come from very different worlds, a friendship forms that...

Los Angeles — The last four years have been a whirlwind for screenwriter Graham Moore. After seizing the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tell the story of a childhood hero, his script based on Alan Turing's life — "The Imitation Game" — lit up the industry, landing at the top of The Black List (an annual compendium of hot unpublished screenplays). He was given the rare opportunity as a writer to see production all the way through as an Executive Producer, moving with the project in and out of the studio system, and in the mountains of Colorado last week, he witnessed the film catch fire after finally premiering at the Telluride Film Festival. Now the 32-year-old finds himself working alongside directors like Michael Mann and Marc Forster, living the dream after having the best possible alignment of stars on his first major industry experience. With "The Imitation Game" set for another big coming out...

Telluride — There are two reasons Andrew Hodges' biography of Alan Turing references "The Enigma" in its title. The first is in reference to the Engima machine, the legendary secret code the Nazis used during World War II, which was solved by a secret UK military division lead by Turing. The second is Turing himself. Known for his advancements in computer theory (look up Turing Machines), BBC News noted that Winston Churchill once referred to Turing as having made "the single biggest contribution to Allied victory in the war against Nazi Germany." Somehow he became a historical footnote until finally getting proper credit for his WWII accomplishments in the 1990s. Eventually he was pardoned for a "gross indecency" charge (which destroyed his life) by the Queen of England in 2013. He was a hero the Western world didn't know about for decades and in many ways the circumstances of his death...

Towleroad The Imitation Game (we just discussed the trailer) isn't the only Alan Turing focused artwork in the ether. The Pet Shop Boys just debuted their opera Breaking the Code (yes, opera) about the man.

I've been quite intrigued about Now You See Me since news of it first dropped. The cast is pretty sweet, and I like a good film about magicians. I just kind of like magicians in general even if shows like Breaking The Code reveal everything. The first trailer for the flick gave us an overview of what the story was about, but there was one key thing it didn't have a lot of-- the lovely Mélanie Laurent. She first caught fire to our hearts in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. However,...

Another week and another action-packed episode! There's a lot to cover this week and, unfortunately, despite the heartbreaks, the blackmail, and one very drunk Spencer, we still didn't get much closer to solving any of the show's mysteries.
"Breaking the Code" provided some really big pieces of evidence...but they didn't really lead anywhere yet.
Jonah only gives Aria and Spencer an address attached to an old burn phone used to text Alison. When the girls investigate the house, they just find a bunch of mail and old man staying in the abandoned home. Although Aria remarks, "at least we got something," I couldn't help but think, "yeah, very little." It was pretty frustrating until Hanna (strangely enough!) started investigating the name of the law firm on the mail. Her mother revealed that Melissa used to work as an intern at that firm until it closed down.
After watching the video Caleb sent to Hanna,...

Caleb took center stage on Pretty Little Liars last night, as Hanna had to do a bit of hacking in order to save her man from the (evil?) police.
Next week, meanwhile, it looks like the action will Seriously heat up. At least according to one of the following two promos for "Breaking the Code."
On the episode ahead, Spencer will turn to Wren for comfort; A will find a new target; and Ezra will be given a new opportunity, but it could cause problems for him and Aria. Check out the U.S. and Canadian teasers now and remember to visit our updated Pretty Little Liars music section each week...

A couple familiar faces are popping back up in Rosewood on "Pretty Little Liars." First, on the Monday, Jan. 30 episode, Hanna's evil stepsister is back in town and starting school at Rosewood High. And she doesn't even have her friends to turn to, because Aria, Spencer and Emily are kind of giving her the cold shoulder.
What Hanna doesn't know, of course, is that it's because they went behind her back to keep working with Caleb. We're sure she'll be thrilled to find out.
And then on the Monday, Feb. 20 episode - Melissa's back and she's very pregnant. The episode description for "Breaking the Code" says that "a surprising new victim of 'A' is revealed ... the PLLs tight-knit group may just get one person larger."
Is it Melissa? We wonder. "Pretty Little Liars" airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on ABC Family.

If, by chance, you happen to read something Thursday (April 1) about Led Zeppelin reuniting or Jim Morrison coming out of hiding, don't believe it. As you're probably aware, it's April Fools' Day, and these kinds of things have a way of happening. Why, on this very day last year, Kid Rock announced he had acquired the naming rights to the Detroit Tigers' stadium, and Coldplay declared they were recording their next album in zero gravity.
Of course, none of it ended up being true, and both acts added their names to the ever-growing list of some of music's greatest tricksters. It seems that bands have been at this kind of thing for decades now, so we figured that now was as good...
