Marlon Wayans is set to guest star on the CBS comedy “Poppa’s House” alongside his brother Damon Wayans and his nephew Damon Wayans Jr.
The Wayans family has a long history of appearing in each other’s projects in addition to working on numerous films and television shows together. The role also reunites Marlon with “Poppa’s House” star Essence Atkins, who previously co-starred with him in the NBC sitcom “Marlon” for two seasons.
“Poppa’s House” debuted on CBS in October. Per the official series description, Damon Wayans stars in the multi-cam comedy as “legendary talk radio host and happily divorced Poppa who has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host (Atkins) is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son, a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.”

"Starsky & Hutch" actor David Soul passed away this week at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of memorable film and TV roles as well as a successful career as a soft rock musician. Soul's run on the stylish '70s detective series ended in 1979, but the performer continued working well into his golden years, most recently appearing in the 2013 film "Filth."
The man behind Detective Sergeant Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchison isn't the first "Starsky & Hutch" castmate to leave us — Captain Dobey actor Bernie Hamilton passed away in 2008. Two of the main leads of the action-packed cop series are still alive, and have packed their careers with interesting, varied, and popular on-screen projects. Turn on Netflix, and you'll catch actor Paul Michael Glaser in "Grace and Frankie," while you can find Antonio Fargas popping up in the DC TV world on "Black Lightning." If you were a movie fan in the late nineties or a fan of pop culture and entertainment from the nineties, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with or at least heard of Seann William Scott. Although a thing of the past by today’s standards, screwball comedies were everywhere during the mid and especially late nineties. With films like Dumb and Dumber, Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, The Waterboy, and Half Baked, it’s safe to say the filmmakers and movie studios were very open-minded about the types of films they were willing to make and distribute. Out of all the different types of comedies released before the New Millennium, Paul Weitz’s 1999 coming-of-age teen sex comedy American Pie is one of the most famous and successful.

Following the turn of the millennium saw the horror genre sent up for all it had in the brilliantly titled Scary Movie. Headed by a collective of the Wayans brothers (having found success with their hood spoof in Don't Be a Menace in South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood), their sights turned to the teen horrors at the time and most notably Wes Craven's highly successful Scream and its antagonist Ghostface.
With its gross-out humor and stoned disposition, and based on a $19 million budget the first Scary Movie was hit with horny teens and smokers and raked in over $278 million worldwide. A green-fingered sequel was greenlit of the first film's success and the smutty series was off.

The Wayans family is in mourning. The patriarch, Howell Wayans, has died. He was 86.
Marlons Wayans, one of Howell’s 10 famous children, took to Instagram on Saturday and announced the tragic news while also paying tribute to his late father. Marlon recalled a story from his childhood, when he asked his father what he wanted to be when he grew up.
“He simply said ‘I wanted to be a man,'” Wayans wrote in his caption. “I said ‘not a lawyer? A doctor? An actor?’ He said ‘just a man.’ I said ‘but every boy becomes a man.’ Dad said, ‘Not true.’ I asked ‘then what’s a man?’ My Dad said ‘A man takes care of himself and his responsibilities. His family is always First.’ From that day on I wanted to be a Man.'”

Marlon Wayans is moving his semi-autobiographical comedy series “Book of Marlon” to Starz.
The premium cabler has put the show into development after it was previously set up at HBO Max. It was originally set up at HBO Max in 2020 as part of an overall deal Wayans had signed there.
In the half-hour show, Wayans would play a fictionalized version of himself, exploring his professional life as a comedian and actor, as well as his personal life as he attempts to reconcile being a good person and loving father with being Marlon. Wayans will star in the series in addition to co-writing and executive producing. As with the original HBO Max iteration, Rick Alvarez will also co-writer and executive produce. Now, though, Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin have come onboard to co-write and serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Riddle previously worked with Wayans on the latter’s NBC series “Marlon,...

Some titles just grab your attention and these long-winded, verbose movie titles are certainly unique. Here are 9 movie titles that are hard to say in one breath.
Honorable Mention: “The Fable of the Kid Who Shifted His Ideals to Golf and Finally Became a Baseball Fan and Took the Only Known Cure” (1916)—23 words
This one actually has the longest movie title ever written, but since it’s just a short rather than a full-length film, it doesn’t count. I’m not clear on what the plot of this was but it’s a short silent comedy about baseball.
1.“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” (2007)—10 Words
This title pretty much sums up the whole movie. If you watch this, you will not be surprised by what happens to Jesse and who kills him. Actually, it’s a pretty good movie and has the best performance that Casey Affleck ever did.

Marlon Wayans has another spoof movie, and this time he's skewering Fifty Shades of Grey with his parody Fifty Shades of Black. Though it's a Marlon movie, Wayans has often worked with some of his famous brothers, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans, to poke fun at whatever films are popular at the moment. The Scary Movie franchise, the A Haunted House franchise, Dance Flick, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka!, and Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood are among the comedies the Wayans family has given us that don't let big budget blockbusters off the hook without a little roasting. If a certain genre of movie is doing well, you can bet the Wayans have made...

Virginal, apple pie-bonking Jim Levenstein can't believe his luck when his history tutoring with sexy Slovakian exchange student Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) turns into something more. So excited is Jim, however, that he barely contains himself at her touch, only lasting a few more seconds on second go, until he, er, explodes again.

Marlon Wayans' career is shockingly diverse, considering he's been in everything from "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood" and "Mo' Money" to "Requiem for a Dream" and "The Ladykillers." But he's back to his old insane comic stylings in "A Haunted House 2," a spoof of horror movies like "The Conjuring," and that means he's plenty vulgar, plenty weird, and plenty naked, actually. We caught up with Wayans (who is only 41 even though he's been famous for 20+ years) to discuss making child actors say vulgar things, writing nude scenes for himself, and why dramatic movies are much easier to film than comedies. ...

[This week's "Retro Active" is inspired by Marlon Wayans' Paranormal Activity-spoofing A Haunted House.]
Paving the way for 2000's Scary Movie and the attendant spoof-current-cinema fad it ushered in, Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood remains the best of Shawn and Marlon Wayans' parodic collaborations, even as it reveals the inherent limits of such comedy. The target of the Wayans' goofiness is "hood cinema," the class of '90s inner city dramas that included Boyz N the Hood, Menace II Society, Juice and New Jack City, all of which—along with the era's hip-hop videos—receive more shout-outs than need to be specifically detailed here. The particular way in which the Wayans poke fun at those influential African-American-centric stories may have been the prime selling point for its target audience at the time of its theatrical release. However, Don't Be a Menace was, and remains, less interesting as a compendium of allusions...

The movie parody game has gone through a lot of changes in the last few decades. With A Haunted House about to hit theaters, followed by Scary Movie 5 in April and The Starving Games sometime later this year, things can get confusing. It's like a scary ghost story. Only with more farting.
Over the years, Marlon Wayans has become a bit of an enigma as an actor. Starting out on the sketch comedy show In Living Color and subsequent sitcom The Wayans Bros., Wayans soon made the natural transition to movie parodies like 1996's Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood and co-writing and starring in the first two of the Scary Movie franchise. However, sprinkled amongst missteps like G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra and Dungeons & Dragons, Wayans has shown he can actually act in movies like Requiem For a Dream and The Ladykillers and was even attached to play Richard Pryor in a long-gestating biopic. Yet, Wayans continues to help put movies like Dance Flick into existence.

Community always serves up great holiday episodes, so it came as no surprise that I loved "Horror Fiction In Seven Spooky Steps." Although I will say that Jeff's story was lacking. Was his idea of spooking everyone to wear a hideous Fast and the Furious jacket? I kid, I kid.
Before I go on, a question: who did everyone think would have the only sane psychology test result?
I have to say that I missed Chang this week. Well, I missed the old Chang, not that crazy character who was mumbling gibberish from a few weeks ago. His cameo was totally underused. The dean, on the other hand, was awesome in his role as the devil. Will I ever get sick of seeing him in costumes?
Nope. Just like I will never get sick of the bromance between Troy and Abed and their sewn together awesomeness. Knocking out Pierce and making a ham sandwich?...

Any time a movie franchise -- or genre -- becomes popular enough, the parodies and spoofs of those films and that genre are sure to follow. From higher-minded spoofs like the films of Mel Brooks to the SNL-inspired tomes like "MacGruber," pointing out and exaggerating the tropes of a genre is an art form in and of itself.
On TV and at the movies, vampires and the supernatural are one of the most popular types of characters in entertainment today. The massive success of "The Twilight Saga" and of TV shows like "True Blood" make blood-sucking and forbidden passions really ripe for parody. This week, the new film, "Vampires Suck" hits AMC theatres and will do just that.
In honor of "Vampires Suck," we look back at five of our favorite spoof movies!
"Airplane!"
The trio of David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker satirized the disaster film genre in 1980's "Airplane!

After more than 35 years on the air and hundreds of episodes, "At the Movies" -- formerly "Ebert & Roeper," formerly "Roger Ebert & The Movies," formerly "Siskel & Ebert," formerly "At the Movies" again, formerly "Sneak Previews" -- shot its final episode earlier this week for broadcast this weekend. In humble admiration for decades of outstanding work, we present our ten favorite reviews from the history of the show in no particular order.
"Cop and a Half" (1993)
Possibly one of the most infamous reviews of the Siskel & Ebert era, "Cop and a Half" was one of those delightful cases where the two not only profoundly disagreed about a film, but did so by speaking about it with far more intelligence and sincerity than its filmmakers ever likely intended. A lesser critic than Ebert would've been undermined by the images of precocious Norman D. Golden II firing a water pistol at Burt Reynolds'...

Thq said that Saints Row info at E3 this year would blow our minds, and the biggest news thus far seems to be that Thq believes they have a "major filmmaker" on board to get a movie out to coincide with the launch of "Saints Row 3."
"We will have a movie with a major filmmaker that will be tied to our content and we will be ideally day-and-date with that movie," Thq core games VP Danny Bilson said at E3, according to Cvg.
That's a big tease on Bilson's part, but he sounds like he's saving the news for another day. As far as appropriate choices, after seeing what Matthew Vaughn was able to do with bright colors and action in "Kick-Ass," I think he would be at the top of my recruitment list if I were Thq. A feature film would definitely need to have a great writer and...

Coming in on the Wtf wires is the appearance of a film that has to be seen to believed. You won't have that chance in theaters, but if you wait until June 8 you can take a gander at The 41 Year Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It. Yes, in the spirit of Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood and Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th, we have another entry in the post-Friedberg/Seltzer era of spoofs that promises to push Superhero Movie into the creme de la creme of its generation.
Peter Hall reported on the release of the trailer back in December and although it hasn't been a full year, the title of the film has aged as much. Universal is actually nowhere near this project. Nevertheless, the product is on...

Burg, Koules to get ShoWest producing nod
Mark Burg and Oren Koules will be honored with the ShoWest Award of Excellence in Producing at the annual convention, which kicks off Monday at the Paris and Bally's hotels in Las Vegas.
The producers launched Lionsgate's Saw franchise in 2004.
Said Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of ShoWest, "Burg and Koules have successfully reinvented the modern-day horror film."
They will be honored Wednesday at the Lionsgate luncheon.
The success of the first "Saw" led to a distribution deal with Lionsgate and the subsequent formation of the pair's production company, Twisted Pictures. In 2005, Burg and Koules produced Saw II, which opened at No. 1 on Halloween weekend and became that year's top-grossing horror movie. The subsequent Saw III opened at No. 1 in North America, the U.K. and Australia during the weekend of Oct. 27. Saw IV is in preproduction.
Burg's early producing credits include Bull Durham and Can't Buy Me Love. He served for several years as president of Island Pictures, where he produced or executive produced such films as Toy Soldiers, Airheads, The Cure, Don't Be a Menace and The Gingerbread Man. Koules began his film career in the mid-1990s, when he partnered with Dale Pollock in Peak Prods.
