David Soul died on January 4th at the age of 80. The actor was best known for playing Detective Kenneth “Hutch” Hutchinson on Starsky & Hutch alongside Paul Michael Glaser.

Although Starsky & Hutch would become one of the most iconic shows of the ’70s, Soul and Glaser had no clue it would become as successful as it did. “We didn’t have a clue it was going to be so successful.

John Lasell, a character actor known for roles on Dark Shadows and The Twilight Zone, has died. He was 95.

Lasell, of Los Angeles, died Oct. 4, according to a family notice.

Lasell appeared regularly on the 1960s camp horror soap Dark Shadows. He played Dr. Peter Guthrie, a vampire hunter. Jonathan Frid played vampire Barnabus Collins in the show that over the course of its four-year run developed a cult teenage following.

Lasell also played John Wilkes Booth in a 1961 episode of The Twilight Zone. He also held roles in two 1961 episodes of Wagon Train, and an episode of Hazel that same year. He appeared in a 1962 episode of Route 66, a 1964 episode of Flipper, and 1966 episodes of As the World Turns and Perry Mason. London, Jan 5 (Ians) David Soul, who starred as Detective Kenneth ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson in the popular American TV series ‘Starsky & Hutch’, which ran from 1975 to 1979, died on Thursday, his wife Helen Snell informed BBC. He was 80, reports ‘Variety’.

In addition to ‘Starsky & Hutch’, Soul starred in the Western series ‘Here Come the Brides’ and movies such as ‘Magnum Force’, ‘Salem’s Lot’ and more. Soul moved to the UK in the 1990s and obtained British citizenship in 2004.

In 1971, ‘Variety’ notes, Soul made his film debut in ‘Johnny Got His Gun’ and he appeared opposite Clint Eastwood in ‘Magnum Force’ (1972), one of the seasoned actor’s Dirty Harry movies.

Soul was also a singer and released several albums in the 1970s and ’80s, including the No. 1 single ‘Don’t Give Up on Us’.

Laird Koenig, who wrote “The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane,” died in Santa Barbara on June 30, Jamie Dixon, the son of Koenig’s collaborator Peter L. Dixon, told Variety. He was 95.

Koenig was an American author and screenwriter whose novel was adapted into the 1976 Jodie Foster-led horror movie “The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane.”

He was born on Sept. 14, 1927, in Seattle, and would go on to attend the University of Washington. Koenig worked in advertising before being approached by Peter L. Dixon, whom he would collaborate with extensively throughout his career, and went on to write for the adventure television series “Flipper.”

Koenig also wrote the screenplay for “The Cat” which starred Roger Perry, and the 1969 production of “The Dozens” which starred Al Freeman Jr., Morgan Freeman and Paula Kelly.

Laird Koenig, who adapted his novel for the screenplay to the 1976 cult film The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, a controversial horror thriller starring a teenage Jodie Foster, has died. He was 95.

Koenig died June 30 of natural causes in Santa Barbara, Jamie Dixon, the son of Koenig’s frequent writing partner, Peter L. Dixon, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Koenig also received a writing credit on three films directed by Terence Young: Red Sun (1971), starring Charles Bronson, Toshiro Mifune, Alain Delon and Ursula Andress; Bloodline (1979), starring Audrey Hepburn, Ben Gazzara and James Mason; and Inchon (1981), starring Gazzara, Laurence Olivier and Jacqueline Bisset.

His 1970 novel The Children Are Watching, co-written with Dixon, was turned into the French film Attention Les Enfants Regardent (1978), starring Delon.

Born on December 17, 1937, in Miami, Lane primarily was active as an actor from the 1960s through the 1990s. HBO Max has a lot to offer in August, with titles to look forward to including the premiere of a brand new Seth Rogen movie called “An American Pickle” on Aug. 6, and Christopher Nolan’s 2008 Batman film “The Dark Knight” out Aug. 1.

The nascent streaming service also shares content with HBO, with new films coming like “Jojo Rabbit” out Aug. 1, “Birds of Prey” out Aug. 15, “Richard Jewell” out Aug. 8, and “Queen & Slim,” out Aug. 22. The upcoming series “Lovecraft County,” which mixes fact and fantasy and takes place in 1950s Jim Crow America, arrives Aug. 16.

Leaving throughout the month include, tragically, all eight “Harry Potter” films, which will be gone after Aug. 25. Other absolute classics like “Good Will Hunting,” “You’ve Got Mail,” and both “Kill Bill” movies will be gone after Aug. 31, so watch them while you can.

HBO Max is continuing to pull from Warner Bros.’ incredible back catalogue of movies, with August bringing a huge number of new titles to the streaming service. With over 130 new pieces of content, the list of upcoming arrivals encompasses classic films of all kinds, from Oscar winners to comedies, horrors to family pics and, of course, tons of blockbusters.

A highlight for many users will probably be the glut of Batman films coming to HBO Max at the start of the month. Every cinematic outing for the Caped Crusader from 1989’s Batman starring Michael Keaton to 2008’s The Dark Knight with Christian Bale (which just celebrated its 12th anniversary this weekend) are going up on the site. Sticking in Gotham, both seasons of Harley Quinn are also coming to HBO Max, following their original release on DC Universe.

It’s August 2020 and that can only mean one thing: HBO Max is about to enter Lovecraft Country.

Over the years HBO (and by the transitive property its new HBO Max streaming offshoot) has grown accustomed to debuting a buzzworthy new TV show or limited series every couple of months. For August 2020 that will almost certainly be Southern Gothic horror series Lovecraft Country. The J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele-produced thriller arrives on August 14 on HBO and HBO Max.

Other strong HBO Max originals arriving in August include the documentary Class Action Park (release date Tbd), Seth Rogen-starring comedy An American Pickle (Aug. 6), and finales for I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, Doom Patrol, and Perry Mason.

Long before Warner Bros. set up their DC Comics Extended Universe, which will start to fully take shape with next week's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the studio was developing Lobo, which had many filmmakers come and go but never seemed to get off the ground. Today we have word from The Wrap that the project is back in the works again, with the studio hiring Wonder Woman screenwriter Jason Fuchs to write the script. This report claims that the writer will start over completely from scratch on the project.

In 1975, Steven Spielberg’s Jaws made theatergoers scared to swim in the ocean. Two years later, another movie made viewers wary of the sea: the Nazi zombies in Ken Wiederhorn’s Shock Waves. Coming to Blu-ray and DVD on November 25th and available to pre-order beginning on October 14th, Blue Underground’s release of Shock Waves will be displayed in 1080p high definition with DTS-hd master audio. It has been such a long time since I sat down to watch Shock Waves that I can barely recall a single image from the film. Thankfully, Blue Underground has my back, as they will be releasing the film to Blu-ray & DVD on November 25th this year. If you aren’t familiar with Blue Underground, or what they do, they are one of the premiere boutique labels that have been a prolific distributor in cult and genre home video releases. I have a pretty large collection of Blue Underground Blu-rays. I think I’m only missing two of their releases, actually. I have the Hell of the Living Dead/Rats double feature sitting on my desk, and I will be tearing through that one tonight. Hugh Jackman is in talks to play the villainous Blackbeard in Warner Bros.' Peter Pan origin story Pan. The studio offered the role to Javier Bardem last month, although he passed on the project.

The story follows young orphan Peter Pan, who is taken to Neverland for the first time, where he becomes a hero to the locals while leading a rebellion against the pirates. Captain Hook will also be featured, although he starts off as an ally to Peter before turning bad. The studio had been looking at Ryan Gosling for the Hook role, although he is not involved in the project. Warner Bros. plans on holding a nationwide casting search for the title character, while also seeking an actress in her mid-20s to play Tiger Lily.

Joe Wright (Anna Karenina) is directing from a screenplay by Jason Fuchs (Flipper), with Greg Berlanti producing. No production schedule was given.

This past week, Hanna director Joe Wright signed onto helm Pan, a Peter Pan origin story being set up at Warner Bros. Now comes news that Javier Bardem is in talks to play the lead villain.

The movie will be based on J.M. Barrie's classic tale, which has been retold numerous times on telelvision and at the movies. Flipper remake writer Jason Fuchs is currently drafting the screenplay.

Javier Bardem will not play the most iconic Pan villain Captain Hook, but instead will personify Blackbeard. The story revolves around orphan boy Peter, who is taken for the first time to the magical world of Neverland, where he joins the natives, leading them in a rebellion against a group of evil pirates.

Remakes seem to be the norm these days, and when you think about it, the early days of cinema had many different versions of the same thing. Take Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde for example, there are so many different film versions from the early days, with different studio’s and countries giving that adaptation a try. So why is it that remakes seems to annoy so many of us now? Mostly I think in the Hollywood system they just seem to be cash grabs, so many are just generic films and it feels like the idea’s have run out.

There are remakes out there however that do it right, take 80’s classics like The Thing and The Fly, those are fantastic remakes. They pay homage to the original, give it a fresh twist and are overall just great films. Now in the 00’s...

When you think back to Elijah Wood's part in Robert Rodriguez's Sin City it's a lot easier to imagine him as a psychotic, blood-thirsty, cannibalistic killer and not just that kid from Flipper and Frodo from The Lord of the Rings.
