Jason Blum is bringing the “Blumhouse edge” to the upcoming “Spawn” film adaptation.
During a press line for Blumhouse at New York Comic Con 2023 (per Screen Rant), Blum teased the “Spawn” movie currently in development at his eponymous production company.
“It’s going to be edgy and original as compared to other superhero movies,” he said. “It’s gonna definitely feel like the Blumhouse version of a superhero movie.”
Blumhouse Productions is best known for producing horror movies such as “M3gan,” “Get Out” and the “Paranormal Activity,” “Insidious” and “The Purge” film franchises.
Back in 2017, original comic creator Todd McFarlane announced that a new movie based on his human-turned-Hellspawn was in the works at Blumhouse. McFarlane, who is on board to write and direct the film, is also producing with Blum.
“We just signed [Jason Blum] yesterday,” McFarlane said in a video announcement at the time during San Diego Comic-Con. “No more theoretical … It’s coming.

Marvel has released sneak peek of their new Spider-Man animated series. It features a clip of Spidey in the heat of battle with Scorpion. The new series goes back to the origins of Spider-Man as a hero while Peter Parker discovers his powers and begins fighting crime in New York City.
It looks like something the kids will enjoy, but Marvel hasn't really impressed me with any of their animation projects since The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Since then things have just been going downhill, especially the animation quality.
Maybe some of you will enjoy this first look more than I did. Check it out and tell us what you think! The series is set to debut on Disney Xd this summer.

BBC America has tapped Kevin Smith for a Sam And Twitch TV series...
Kevin Smith is going to write, direct, and executive produce Sam And Twitch, a detective series for BBC America. Smith as a showrunner is news in itself, but when the show in question is a Spawn spinoff, it becomes even more interesting.

“They were originally introduced in Spawn, and it’s Todd McFarlane’s comic book series about these big-city homicide detectives who face a series of super grizzly crimes that are connected to the occult,” BBC America President Sarah Barnett told Deadline.
The idea is to treat Sam And Twitch like a detective procedural but, as you would expect, horror elements, and "certain character-serialized aspects."
Sam and Twitch were created by Todd McFarlane as supporting players in 1992's Spawn series.

It's no secret that Kevin Smith is a fan of comic books, and he's recently been enjoying his time at the CW directing episodes of The Flash and Supergirl. He also recently announced that he was going to make a new Jay and Silent Bob movie. Now he's got a new TV project in the works! We've learned that Smith is set to write, direct, and executive produce a series based on Todd McFarlane's Spawn.
The series will be a supernatural crime series based on the homicide detective characters from Spawn, Sam and Twitch. The series is being developed for BBC America. The announcement came from Gm Sarah Barnett, who had this to say in a statement:
"They were originally introduced in Spawn, and it's Todd McFarlane's comic book series about these big-city homicide detectives who face a series of super grizzly [sic] crimes that are connected to the occult.

A new character will debut in Flash episode 13 and will stick around at least until episode 14, that being the good intentioned leader of Gorilla City (The home of the sentient Apes in the comics, and apparently the CW show Flash), another ape, Solovar. If your left hand is evil, you hold Grodd, and if your right hand has good intentions then you cradle Solovar. This ape has been around the comics for a long time, and while he has had evil tendencies at times, Solovar is typically the logically thinking leader controlling Gorilla City.
Today, we learn that Solovar will join us, and I for one being an Apetivist am happy to learn that not all Gorillas will be evil in the show. Or so we are led to believe. For all we know, Solovar could be highly irritated that Barry threw Grodd into their world, disrupting their ape-lives and Solovar now seeks revenge.

Over the weekend, Marvel announced that they are developing a new Spider-Man animated series for Disney Xd. The series will simply be called Marvel's Spider-Man, and it's set to drop sometime in 2017. It will tell the story of "an unsure but courageous teen who has to figure out how to be a superhero from the very beginning."
The new series will replace the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, which is set to conclude in January 2017 in a two-part finale titled "Graduation Day." That story arc will see "Spider-Man stop Doctor Octopus and the Superior Sinister Six from destroying all of the heroes in New York City."
The news of the new series came from Cort Lane, the senior vice president of Marvel Animation and Family Entertainment at Nycc, and this is what he said about it in a statement:

We are all still waiting for the much talked about Spawn reboot that someday will (hopefully) come. Until then, the only thing we have to get us by, outside of the comics and teh HBO animates series, is the 1997 Spawn movie, which most of us would like to forget. Fortunately, a YouTuber has given us a new take on the 1997 version of the movie which makes us even more excited about the possibility of a new Spawn movie.
A fan by the name of Tim Gonzales recently uploaded a new version of the 1997 Spawn movie trailer to his YouTube channel. Even though he only used footage from the movie as we know it, somehow, he made it look totally and completely modern, not to mention awesome. Granted, some elements still look dated, but he completely avoided using any of the utterly ridiculous elements of the movie that made it less than great.

With Deadpool riding high on the crest of box office glory it found this past weekend, other studios are more than likely going to feel emboldened to start venturing into R-rated superhero flicks themselves. So naturally, Todd McFarlane's Spawn seems to be back in play, and his new concept for the hellbound hero promises an exciting ride ahead. This news comes on the heels of Todd McFarlane's announcement that his first draft for the Spawn reboot has been officially completed, which is cause enough to celebrate. But as you'll see in the following statement, from an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com, McFarlane outlined his concept for how his iconic character will interact with the world as follows: I.d put it more into the horror/suspense/supernatural genre. If you take the movie The Departed meets Paranormal Activity, something like that.In the background, there.s this thing moving around,...

The thing to remember about Scott Snyder is that he is not a superhero writer. For all of the Batman comics that he writes, he’s a horror writer, applying his trade more obviously to Wytches and American Vampire. Those titles are built on their dark mood and atmosphere. Rafael Albuquerque and Jock are two artists that Snyder has repeatedly worked with who can illuminate the darkness of the world. Snyder does that with his writing as well. American Vampire has been a secret history of the United States, revealing an unseen horrific presence behind familiar events and places. Wytches does something similar but on a much smaller and more personal level. While Snyder has also tried to do the of superhero story in Superman Unchained, a fine but underwhelming miniseries with Jim Lee, his natural element is horror.

There has been much made about the lack of female-led superhero movies in the past couple of months, with DC Comics taking a giant leap forward by announcing a standalone Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot. A new report indicates that Warner Bros. is set on hiring a female director to take on the project. But who will it be?
Zack Snyder will have the first crack at shaping and defining this big screen incarnation of Wonder Woman, a character that will debut in his upcoming superhero ensemble Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Its believed that the character will be loosely based on the New 52 version, with the Amazonian princess a goddess fathered by demigod Zeus. While Justice League Part 1 is also being released in 2017, its unclear which project will hit screens first that year.

At Baltimore Comic Con, I got the opportunity to chat with up and coming comics writer Marguerite Bennett about her projects past, present, and future for companies including Marvel, DC, and Boom! We also discussed her mentor Scott Snyder (Batman, The Wake), Batman: The Animated Series, and her time at the University of Mary Washington, which happens to be the college I am currently attending.
SoS: What was the first comic you ever read? How old were you? What was the context?
Marguerite Bennett: This isn’t exactly a comic, but Batman: The Animated Series was my big hook into the Bat-universe. after that, my friend Travis Covey would show me single issues from things like X-Men and Spawn. They were always completely out of the arc they were a part of so I’d be six years old going through these pages with no concept of what was going on.

Last month’s issue of Batman, Batman #24, is a classic. It is not only a love letter to Batman’s lore, but it also took Zero Year from a novelty event and transformed it into a modern day piece of art that will be praised long after we are all gone. On that note, it may seem like Batman #25 faces a bit of an upward battle. Not only does it follow an instant classic, but it’s the first issue that plunges Gotham and readers into the much touted “Dark City” storyline. Fortunately for us, this is Snyder and Capullo we are talking about, so while it may not hit Red-Hood-Gang-heights, issue #25 is still an enjoyable read.

After a writer/artist team concludes a big storyline and before they begin an even bigger one, there’s always a little down time. This can be used to develop side characters, wrap up/create sub plots, or just set up the new event. There’s not a lot of “Year Zero” setup in this issue, but we get some insights into the Batman/Bruce Wayne dichotomy, a little bit of action, and yet another solid backup story by James Tynion and Alex Maleev which co-stars Superman. This story, in particular, makes me wish that Tynion was writing the upcoming Batman/Superman title with Jae Lee.
The biggest strength of this issue is Greg Capullo’s art. As a former Spawn and Angela artist, Capullo is used to the...

For fans and readers alike, Batman #15 comes as a great relief. While we get to experience some nail-biting, harrowing action scenes, the bulk of the issue is not plot-driven, which is quite rare for a hit DC title. Team Batman respects our intelligence as readers and slows the issue down, way down, while they reiterate to us that this series is, above all things, a character story.
The opening monologue, spoken by Bruce about the Joker actually says more about himself than it does about the other. While we do get a haunting speech about looking into the Jokers’ eyes and the frightening love he sees in them, what’s actually important is what Bruce exposes to us about himself. In explaining his methodological examination of the madman, he exposes to us his fear. We see how terrifying it is for Bruce to live in a world with the Joker,...

Last week, we brought you some fantastic character art for Ninjasauras Rex, an original animated series being developed by Emmy Award winning director Frank Paur (HBO's Spawn, X-Men: Evolution) and Steven Meyer (The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes). Today, we bring you some artwork for the pilot episode of the show!
The character descriptions that came with the concept art gave us a taste of the overall tone of the show. The pilot synopsis gives us even more insight into the relationship of the characters and their dynamics, the amount of action we can expect, as well as the mysterious world it takes place in. The dino-warrior series takes place in what seems like Feudal Japan, but in actuality, is a world where the country has become a mix of different races and languages. If you grew up spending Saturday mornings with a bowl of cereal in your lap that would spill onto your pjs while you religiously watched shows like Batman: The Animated Series and Gargoyles, then we have a treat for you! Here's some great looking character art for an original new animated series, Ninjasauras Rex, which is being developed by Emmy Award winning director Frank Paur.
His credits include the aforementioned Batman: The Animated Series and Gargoyles, as well HBO's Spawn, X-Men: Evolution, Men In Black: The Series, Hulk Vs. Wolverine, and many more -- essentially, the man shaped and monopolized your childhood. Paur is developing Ninjasauras Rex with frequent collaborator Steven Meyer (The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes).
Here's a short synopsis:
Ninjasauras Rex is a 1/2 hour animated adventure/comedy series that follows the exploits of a Ninja Tyrannosaurus Rex and his teenage sidekick Asper in what at first looks to be Feudal Japan.

Batman fans have been treated to a wide variety of takes on the classic villain The Joker. Yet, there hasn’t been anything quite like Greg Capullo’s grisly new version. After sharpening his teeth for years working on Spawn over at Image, Capullo is now bringing some of that grittiness he has become famous for to this new story-arc for DC: Death of the Family. Comic fans have been anxiously waiting for this storyline after the Clown Prince of Crime had his face cut off by the Dollmaker in a shocking turn of events in the pages of Detective Comics over a year ago. Was The Joker dead? What was going to happen to the character now?
I guess the character just needed a little time off and a face-lift. The Joker is back in issue #13 of Batman (not the Detective Comics book) and just hit comic-book stores this week.

It's been a while since we've heard a peep on "Deadpool" or "Youngblood," but Rob Liefeld's Hollywood prospects remain bright. Case in point: the comic book creator's "Bloodstrike" is looking likely for a big-screen adaptation.
Variety reports that Adi Shankar's 1984 Private Defense Contractors has set up an adaptation of "Bloodstrike" with Shankar, Liefeld and Liefeld's manager Brooklyn Weaver on board as producers. The story centers on a group of super-soldiers who are secretly dosed with vampire blood, elevating them from an elite squad to something considerably more terrifying.
In the comics, the Bloodstrike team has had no shortage of members, including Cabbot, Bailout, Deadlock and Troll. Even Chapel, who has appeared in the pages of "Spawn" and "Youngblood," has had a role to play with the team.
Stay tuned for more news on the adaptation as it comes in.

TNT’s Leverage swings back into action tonight at 8/7c, in a new (yet not new) locale. Coming off the events of Season 4′s finale, Nate’s team bid Beantown adieu and set up shop in Portland – aka the city where the caper drama has filmed all these years. Also new: Hardison and Parker are “out” with their romance, so we thought it a good time to chat up Aldis Hodge about that fun dynamic. Plus: Why Leverage‘s master hacker wants to suit up as a certain Marvel hero.

In keeping with tradition, AMC has commissioned another Comic-Con exclusive poster for The Walking Dead. If you recall, Drew Struzan painted a one-sheet for season one. Tim Bradstreet handled season two. Now, Greg Capullo has cooked something up for season three. Capullo is best known for his work on Spawn, currently, he is kicking some major ass on Batman for DC.

Ultimate Spider-Man on Disney Xd is a fun and entertaining series, and one of my favorite current animated shows. We've been hearing rumors for awhile that Marvel would be cancelling their awesome animated series Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Today that rumor has been confirmed; the series is gone. It's a shame that this only got two seasons, as it was one of the best animated series on TV. The news was confirmed in a press release by Marvel that also revealed the show would be replaced by another Avengers series called Marvel's Avengers Assemble.
The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t be renewed for the 3rd Season. Marvel Animation will present their newly developed series Marvel’s Avengers Assemble in 2013.
The image above was released to promote the new series, which looks like it's going to fall more in line with Joss Whedon's Avengers film. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more Marvel characters introduced in the series though. We should get some more details at this year's Comic-Con.

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.
Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

In the 1980′s Alan Moore was one of DC Comics most important writers, crafting immensely interesting and enduring takes on Superman and Batman, reviving the character of Swamp Thing (helping to create the character of John Constantine), and writing what is considered to be the greatest graphic novel of all time, Watchmen. So why in 1989 just after the release of his follow up series, V for Vendetta, did Moore leave the company and has been on bad terms with them since? Sadly it’s because of that age old problem: money.
Back then, DC had a pretty standard contract for their talent, one that stated DC owned the rights to a comic just as long as they used the characters in some form, usually by printing new edition of a book. If in one year the characters weren’t used, the rights would revert back to Moore and artist Dave Gibbons.

I remember how excited I was when the first Image Comics hit the stores in the early nineties. There were rumours flying about recklessly of movie adaptations and TV shows in the works and I could not wait to see my brand new favourites immortalised on screen! Alas, it all fell apart when the Speculator’s Boom busted.
But now, after the huge success of AMC’s TV version of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, I have seen a window of opportunity where my teen-hood fantasies can finally come true. So here are the classic Image Comics titles that I think should be the next super TV series (All of you big movie studios types need to take note!).

I know that most of you would shout out names like Spawn or Invincible for this opening spot, but no series needs a second chance to prove how amazing...

Here it is. The full 52 titles that DC Will debut at the end of the summer. There are a lot of exciting new beginnings for old favorites like Swamp Thing and Sgt. Rock, and the whole lineup is chock full of some of the greatest names in the business. I’m a little disappointed that DC burned 11 of its new titles on the Bat-family alone. That seems a little bit of a waste. Especially since 4 of those titles actually feature Bruce Wayne/Batman in them. I love Bats as much as the next guy, but 4 titles? Really? I thought the whole renumbering was supposed to fix things like that.
In any event, here are the 52. I’m pretty excited all around. Let me hear your thoughts in the comments below.

The folks over on Bleeding cool have just revealed the cover for Batman #1 with art by none other than Greg Capullo! (X-Force, Angela, Spawn) It'll be hitting shelves in September following DC's relaunch of 52 titles after Flashpoint, and you can check it out below! The cover seems to show Batman fending off some of his classic villains such as Killer Croc and Two face towards the bottom right hand corner, and shows what seems to be a newly designed Riddler on the right with a green question mark shaved on his head. Its seems as though Scarecrow is also makes an appearance towards the bottom left. The cover also showcases some new villains such as 'Mr Pyg' who can be seen being punched on the right who only just recently appeared in the Batman mythos. Bleeding Cool also suggested Greg Capullo will be doing the artwork for the entire book...

More heart, deeper storyline, and more action is what this sequel brings to the screen. Reuniting the writing talents of Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, that penned the first installment of this soon to be trilogy, was a magnificent choice for the film. The characters have more depth, connection, heart-warming moments, and of course more fight choreography. Directed by Jennifer Yuh, known for Spawn – The TV Series and writing collaborator on other animated projects such as Sinbad: Legend Of The Seven Seas and The Real Adventures Of Johnny Quest – The TV Series, knows animation well and it shows by her distinct perception of the fight sequences and overall look of the film. She is not afraid to use different camera angles and close-ups to instant sky shots. This kept a very good pace while watching the film while also giving the audience a better look at the town and outlying areas.

Bigger. Funnier. Better action. Faster paced. More prominent heart in the story. By every account imaginable, DreamWorks Animation's new animated movie, Kung Fu Panda 2, is a superior film to its predecessor. What began as a light-hearted, martial arts romp with gloriously crafted CG creatures has turned everything up to their brightest points, and what is delivered is a wonderfully entertaining and heart-warming movie that will make everyone in the audience provide their own hearty "skadoosh". That might be trademarked. Just don't say anything to Jack Black. Taking the helm this time around is Jennifer Yuh, first-time feature film director who has worked as a storyboard artist for projects like the HBO "Spawn" series and 1998's Dark City. But don't let those darker works sway you. The central character, Po, isn't clad in black leather or taking his enemies out with well-placed neck-breaks. Instead, Yuh brings her precision in animation...
