Why Did Nicolas Cage’s Wife Patricia Arquette Eat Garlic Before Kissing Ewan McGregor Onscreen? (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)
Nicolas Cage and Patricia Arquette were a power couple in the late ‘90s when both were reaching the heights of their careers. But in their golden era, a movie rarely lacked intimate scenes, making the presence of a smooching partner a given.
Cage and Arquette were no exception either. Like Hollywood relationships, they inevitably faced the awkwardness of filming intimate scenes with co-stars. However, they had a unique method to ensure professional boundaries remained intact — garlic.
While promoting the second season of the hit show Severance with Adam Scott, Arquette disclosed her peculiar agreement in a First We Feast video. The Boyhood actress recalled adhering to the pact when filming a kissing scene with Ewan McGregor in the 1997 thriller Nightwatch. “I’m so sorry, but I told my husband [Cage] I was going...

Patricia Arquette recently told “Severance” co-star Adam Scott during a game of “Hot Ones Versus” that her actor ex-husband once screwed her over after they made a pact about doing sex scenes in movies and television shows.
“I was married to somebody at the time and we were very young and impressionable people,” Arquette said. “We made a deal that we were going to eat garlic if we had to do love scenes, so I ate garlic before I had to kiss Ewan McGregor and I’m like, ‘I’m so sorry, but I told my husband I was going to have to eat some garlic.’”
“Then he had to do a love scene and I’m like, ‘Well, did you eat garlic?’ He’s like, ‘I thought we were kidding,’” she continued. “I was like, ‘What?!’”

Streaming has been a positive for many independent filmmakers who want exposure (especially for the horror genre), but there has always been a downside. The lack of physical release of these films has haunted the industry, something that is starting to be rectified. According to Variety, some Shudder horror films will get a proper release for some limited editions. The horror streaming service has joined Arrow Video to get their films to fans who may not have a Shudder subscription. Many titles slated for release include Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s early work in Nightwatch, the 2024 sequel, Nightwatch: Damons Are Forever, and the prolific Adams family’s inventive supernatural film, Hellbender. Other titles released are The Sadness, Deadstream, Speak No Evil, Huesera: The Bone Woman, and Perpetrator. Most of the films are getting US and UK releases except for Hellbender, which is only getting released in the United States.

Back in 1994, long before he was cast to play Jaime Lannister in the hit series Game of Thrones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau made his feature film debut in the thriller Nightwatch, where he played a character named Martin, a law student who takes a job working as a night watchman at The Department of Forensic Medicine in Copenhagen just as the place starts filling up with the bodies of a serial killer’s victims. Nightwatch was so well-received that writer/director Ole Bornedal was given the opportunity to direct an English-language remake, which he wrote with Steven Soderbergh. Ewan McGregor played the Martin role in that 1997 film. Now, thirty years after working on the original Nightwatch together, Bornedal and Coster-Waldau have re-teamed for a “30 years” later sequel called Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever, which is set to be released through the Shudder streaming service on May 17th!

Spike Lee has no love lost for his Do the Right Thing critics.
Per Variety, the iconic director of the classic 1989 social drama was honored with the Roger Ebert Director Award at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival Tribute Awards. While accepting the award from the late film critic's wife, Chaz Ebert, Lee recalled how Ebert defended Do the Right Thing at the time of its release from other critics who had slammed the movie as a call to violence in the streets. "Your husband got behind me when those motherf–kers in the press were saying that Do the Right Thing was going to incite Black people to riot," Lee said. "That this film should not be shown in the United States."

Lee continued by singling out the hypocrisy of two critics in particular: The New Yorker's David Denby and Time Magazine's Joe Klein.

Since the superhero boom of the 2000s, a number of incredible directors have helmed movies based on Marvel superheroes. Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, acclaimed filmmakers like Sam Raimi and Ang Lee dabbled in the world of Marvel superheroes. The MCU has managed to get revered directors like Ryan Coogler, James Gunn, Chloé Zhao, and Taika Waititi to craft superhero movies.
Yet what about the filmmakers who almost directed Marvel superhero movies? Jon Watts, who directed the three MCU Spider-Man films, left Fantastic Four after being announced in 2020. This is not an uncommon occurrence in big-budget moviemaking, as directors are attached to projects and leave due to scheduling conflicts, creative differences, or just wanting to pursue other avenues. But it does seem to happen frequently with Marvel, meaning that there are many potential "what if?" films that might have been (maybe a season of What If...? should be devoted to...

Rama (Pavel Tabakov) is a vampire.
In writer/director Victor Ginzburg’s adaptation of Russian novelist Viktor Pelevin’s Empire V, however, the term takes on a whole new meaning.
Mixing the action of Nightwatch with the philosophical underpinnings of The Matrix sequels, Empire V is an unconventional entry in the vampire subgenre. Working as both an introduction to a sprawling new mythology, as well as a satirical critique of (Russian) capitalism, the film has already been banned in its home country where it was due to premiere last year.
The film’s politics aren’t exclusive to Russia, though co-star Oxxxymiron (aka Miron Fedorov) and lead actor Vladimir Epifantsev have both been critical of Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the former very publicly denouncing the invasion of Ukraine. For the most part, however, Empire V isn’t only commenting on Russia; its political commentary is broadly critiquing how the...

Films about violent cults always have the same vibe as serial killer movies because they make sure to offer an excess of gore, thrills, and action. While there have been plenty of cult thrillers this year, such as Hypnotic and Hulu's The Clearing, the upcoming God Is A Bullet brings something new to the table: a father's desperate struggle to save his abducted daughter and exact vengeance on his murdered ex-wife.
God Is A Bullet is an upcoming cult action thriller based on the novel of the same name by Boston Teran. The film is written and directed by Nick Cassavetes and stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Jamie Foxx, and Maika Monroe. Filming began in Mexico City in May 2021 and concluded in August 2021.

Who do we traditionally consider to be Danish on screen, and why?
That is the question diversity action group ‘A Bigger Picture’ (Et Større Billede) is attempting to ask with its new visual campaign, which has sparked a controversial debate about representation and racism within the Danish film and TV industry.
The group, which comprises diverse members of the Danish industry, was created by actresses Laura Allen Müller (Borgen), Sandra Yi Sencindiver (Bäckström), Malaika B. Mosendane (Get a Life), Şiir Tilif (Borderline), and Dorcas Joanna Hansen. They teamed up during the pandemic through an informal support group for Danish actresses of color started by Sencindiver.
“It was just like a sisters network that’s been ongoing since 2020,” Sencindiver said.

After three weekends in theaters, an unexpectedly early release of “Dog” (United Artists/$19.99) received a strong initial response with three #1 slots on charts ranked by revenue (Vudu) and by total transactions (iTunes and Google).
The Channing Tatum-co-directed and -starring film is #4 in theaters this weekend, down only 13 percent and approaching $50 million. That made it seem like a prime candidate for extended exclusive play and its studio has not been particularly aggressive on early PVOD. “No Time to Die” did appear after 30 days, but since then both “House of Gucci” and “Licorice Pizza” had two month windows before going to home platforms. It is one of two new PVOD releases from UA: “Cyrano” ($19.99) came out after only its second weekend.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” (Sony/$19.99) debuts on Tuesday, a week ahead of the previously announced release date. It is certain to displace “Dog” and dominate the charts, as it did in theaters.

Shooting mostly in Iceland and Greenland, the team behind Netflix’s upcoming release “Against the Ice” – now shown in Berlin – had to battle punishing weather conditions and freezing cold, as well as star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
“It was quite challenging, working with Nikolaj. Apart from that, it was alright,” joked actor Joe Cole during the press conference. “My character is quite different from me. He is relentlessly positive, upbeat, excited to be around this ‘celebrity’. He is in awe of Nikolaj. Can’t say the same.”
Inspired by a 1909 exhibition led to disprove US claims to northeastern Greenland, the film sees Cole as Iver P. Iversen, an inexperienced mechanic who joins Danish explorer Ejnar Mikkelsen (Coster-Waldau) on his journey. Later, he becomes his only companion after their crew leaves them behind.
“We were sure we wanted to shoot on location,” added Coster-Waldau. “First of all, it looks much better, but also for selfish reasons.

Nordic production powerhouse Miso Film, which looks to make a splash at the Berlinale Series with its daring HBO Max show “Lust,” is developing high-end international dramas with Scandinavian creatives such as Pilou Asbæk (“Borgen”), Ole Bornedal (“Nightwatch”) and Fenar Ahmad (“Darkland”). You guys remember when Spike Lee was possibly attached to direct the movie adaptation of Marvel's Nightwatch? Me either. However in a recent interview, Lee did speak about his lasting affinity for the MCU and how he prefers it much more than the house the Bat built. I'm talking about DC for the uninitiated. Here's an excerpt of Spike discussing if he'd still be into…...

The new and most bad-ass gay vampire Zombie splatter movie you’ll ever see… Ever! First up, the statement above is not of my making, no the statement above is lifted directly from the poster for Thirst. In my case the response is more… “What in the f**k did I just watch?!?” I mean, is this the type of movie that normally comes out of Iceland? Because if so… Sign me the hell up!
Every now and then I come across a foreign language flick that just throws me for a loop In terms of the quality and content. Films like Infernal Affairs, Brotherhood, Nightwatch and Why Don’t you Just Die. The pitch for Thirst was “adrenaline pumping vampire epic” so how the hell could I not check this one out?...

Thanks to the billion dollar box office success of Marvel Studios' "Black Panther", Sony Entertainment's Columbia Pictures continues developing Marvel Comics' 'black superhero' "Nightwatch":
"...debuting in Marvel's "Web of Spider-Man #97 (1993) , the origin of 'Nighwatch' starts with 'Doctor Kevin Trench', who witnesses a costumed man battling terrorists armed with invisibility-generating 'cloaking" devices.
"The man is killed, Trench unmasks the corpse and is horrified to learn the dead man was an older version of himself.
"Trench quickly strips the costume from 'his' body, runs away with the outfit, then decides to investigate the costume's origins, putting it on and becoming the super crime-fighter 'Nighwatch' ...
"...harnessing the power of self-replicating 'nanites', boosting his strength and durability and triggering his adrenal glands. The cape also responds to his subconscious thoughts allowing him to glide on the air..."

Tom Hardy has revealed our first official look at Woody Harrelson's return as Cletus Kasady for Venom 2. As those who saw the first movie may recall, Harrelson showed up briefly during a post-credit sequence as the famed Marvel Comics psychopath and the appearance was remarkable for several reasons, not the least of which being the large, red wig that the actor was put in. Now, as we can see in this new image, Cletus, the man who goes on to become Carnage, has been given something of a makeover for the sequel.
The image sees Woody Harrelson outside of prison attire. Instead, he's in a black jacket and Hawaiian shirt with a necklace. The most noteworthy element is his hair, which has been significantly trimmed back to look less, shall we say cartoony? Not much else can be extrapolated from the image, in terms of what to expect from the sequel,...

Sony has revealed the first trailer for Morbius the Living Vampire. This is the latest entry in Sony's budding Spider-Man spin-off universe. Since the studio still has the big screen rights for a number of Marvel characters connected to the webslinger, they're making the most of it and cherry-picking characters that they feel can carry franchises on their own. In this case, we're seeing the so-called Living Vampire brought to life, with Jared Leto taking on the main role.
As we see in the first Morbius trailer, Daniel Espinosa is in the director's chair for the Marvel Comics adaptation. Some of Espinosa's previous credits include Safe House and Life. Oddly enough, at one point, many thought Life was going to turn out to be a secret prequel to Venom, which kicked off Sony's Spidey spin-off universe. That didn't prove to be the case. Matt Sazama (Gods of Egypt) and Burk Sharpless...

Sony's 'Universe of Marvel Characters' including the currently shooting "Spider-Man" spin-off "Morbius", opening July 31, 2020, will be followed by a "Venom" sequel, plus stand-alone "Kraven The Hunter", "Silver Sable", "Nightwatch", "Silk", "Jackpot" and "The Black Cat" features:
"We have the next seven or eight years laid out as to what we’re going to do with that asset", said Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tony Vinciquerra about the studio's "Spider-Man" spin-off movie rights.
"And that will not only be on the film side -- it’ll be on the TV side as well. Our television group will have its own set of characters from within that universe that we will seek to develop."

Venom refuses to stop devouring box office dollars at home and abroad. Sony has finally released the movie in China and the early results are very promising, as the comic book flick has already started breaking box office records. While it was already pretty much a guarantee that it was going to happen, a sequel is now not only sure to be announced sooner rather than later, but the studio may even want to try and put it on the fast track.
According to analysts, Venom made an estimated $34.7 million on Friday in China, which includes $2.5 million earned during Thursday previews. That now makes for the best single day for a solo superhero movie title, besting Captain America: Civil War, which earned $30 million upon its debut in the country. The record for the highest opening day for any superhero movie still belongs to Avengers: Infinity War, which earned $71 million earlier this year.

Following the release of "Venom" October 2018, feature film adaptations in development, based on "Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters", will also include "Silk", "Black Cat" and a whole lot more, "...focused on being faithful to the comics...", said Sanford Panitch, President of Columbia Pictures:

You can go ahead and add Sergei Kravinoff’s name to the list of Spider-Man villains destined for the big screen.
Collider is reporting today that Richard Wenk (The Equalizer 2) has climbed aboard to hash out a script for Kraven the Hunter, which looks set to become the latest Sony-backed Spidey spinoff alongside Venom, Silk, Silver & Black, Nightwatch and the Jared Leto-fronted vampire movie, Morbius.
All of these projects are currently hinging on Venom‘s potential success – or lack thereof – as Sony Pictures may well be staring down the face of a Dark Universe-like situation come October where their franchise-starter flops spectacularly, only to raise serious question marks over future installments.
But that’s the glass-half-empty scenario; Sony is beginning to develop a Kraven the Hunter movie sans Spider-Man, who is still tied up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That leaves Wenk facing the somewhat difficult...

We have a brand new trailer for Venom. Sony made a deal with Marvel Studios a few years ago to finally allow for Spider-Man to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony, though, has not been content to just sit on their hands and collect the cast from the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. Instead, they're working on an entire spin-off universe, utilizing other characters from the world of Spider-Man, and that starts with Venom, which we now have a much better look at thanks to this new footage.
With Venom set to arrive in theaters this fall, it was highly expected that this new trailer was going to debut at San Diego Comic-Con. It very well did, but the studio made fans who couldn't attend the event wait a little while longer to get a look at it. With Marvel Studios skipping out on Sdcc this year, it paved the...

It looks like we're finally getting a new Venom trailer tomorrow. Sony made a big splash at San Diego Comic-Con this year by showcasing their upcoming comic book movie slate, which currently includes the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and the live-action take on the classic Spidey villain Venom, who is being positioned as an antihero for the sake of being able to center an entire movie, and quite possibly franchise, around the character. Now, it appears as though at least some of the footage showcased at Sdcc will finally be making its way online for everyone to check out.
The news comes from Sony China. According to some info from their various social media channels and online outlets, the new Venom trailer is coming our way tomorrow. It will drop pretty early for those who live in the states, as pointed out by Twitter user Gavin Feng, who did...

Could we see Spider-Man duking it out against Tom Hardy's Venom in the future? Director Ruben Fleischer certainly isn't ruling out the possibility. During Sony's San Diego Comic-Con presentation for the upcoming Venom movie, the filmmaker teased that the door is open for that in the future and that he would very much like to see it happen. But that may not be as easy as it sounds.

We’re getting the first look at Nightwatch Nation, an expansion of A&E’s Nightwatch docuseries from executive producer Dick Wolf and 44 Blue Productions, a Red Arrow Studios company.
Nightwatch Nation follows EMTs in Yonkers, New York; Austin, Texas; Tucson, Arizona; and Baton Rouge, Louisiana as these real-life heroes risk their lives to work the busiest and most unnerving shift of the day, the overnight.
The 10-episode series follows EMTs as they tackle emergencies on every level, bringing viewers along for the ride while also experiencing the high intensity environment of the call centers. The series follows EMTs as they treat a stroke victim in Yonkers and a heroin overdose in Baton Rouge. I’ve gotta hand it to Sony Pictures, as they really seem committed to their strange Spidey-verse. Not only do we have this fall’s Venom, but there’s Spike Lee’s Nightwatch and the slightly delayed Silver & Black coming, too.
Still, they surprised everyone with the late June announcement that they’d snagged Jared Leto for the title role in Morbius, with Safe House and Life director Daniel Espinosa set to helm. The news was particularly shocking as Leto’s already The Joker in Warner Bros’ Dceu and had been expected to reprise the role in various sequels – which are apparently still going ahead (though I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t).
Right now, Morbius remains an unknown quantity, although a new casting call may shed a bit of light on the film’s broad strokes. Ths is reporting that the movie will pit Morbius against...

Perhaps appropriate for a film that seemingly revolves around two characters fusing together to become a third, Venom has rolled out a pair of HD pics – one for Eddie Brock, and the other for his inky-black alien symbiote.

Fantastic Beasts!), below you’ll see Tom Hardy’s down-on-his-luck reporter, Eddie Brock, being interrogated by Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed) of the Life Foundation. The other pic is presumably pulled from the moment when Brock becomes infected by the alien parasite, before unleashing chaos upon anyone who dares get in his way.
And best of all? Both characters will be voiced and performed by Tom Hardy, and director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), for one, is a big believer in the actor’s dual performance:

Pending some final negotiations, Jared Leto is on the verge of embracing his darker side for Morbius, the Living Vampire.
It’s the fifth Spider-Man spinoff to be announced by Sony Pictures, and will soon join Venom, Silver & Black, Silk and the embryonic Nightwatch movie within the studio’s Marvel Universe.
Daniel Espinosa of Life fame is attached to direct this one, and we’ve since learned that Morbius, a story which revolves around doomed biochemist Dr. Michael Morbius, won’t affect Leto’s previous engagements to the DC Extended Universe – those Joker projects are as safe as houses, then – and, frankly, it’s shaping up to be a totally different film compared to Sony’s other Spidey spinoffs.
How do we know? Well, for one, Jared Leto has already alluded to 2013 Marvel Max series The Man Called Morbius from writer Joe Keating, all but confirming the pic’s gothic leanings.

Jared Leto is heading from the DC universe to Marvel. Jared Leto is Morbius, the Living Vampire, pending some final negotiations.
Deadline broke the news earlier today that Leto, best known for Suicide Squad, Dallas Buyers Club and being the frontman of 30 Seconds to Mars, is prepared to spearhead Sony’s latest Spider-Man spinoff with Daniel Espinosa (Life) on directing duties.
We know the studio is plotting its own Marvel universe with characters like Venom, Nightwatch, Silk and the long-in-development Silver & Black movie, and it all begins with the launch of Eddie Brock’s solo film this October.
But for those worried that Jared Leto’s involvement in Morbius will affect his ongoing commitment to the DC Extended Universe and its many Joker-related projects – namely Joker and Harley Quinn and Warner’s newfangled solo movie, not to be confused with the Todd Phillips-directed offshoot that has Joaquin Phoenix attached to star – Variety has published a follow-up report that ought to allay any fears.
