Fans of pop culture trivia have a new destination with the launch of Hollywood Iq.
The daily on-the-street show has newly debuted and features questions about film, TV and pop culture. Hailing from Mad Realities, it is available on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram and features such formats as “Guess the Movie From Its Cast” and “What Do They Have in Common?”
Hollywood Iq quietly debuted two months ago and has since surpassed 60 million views across all platforms. Sandy Melara hosts the show, while Talia Schulhof serves as creative producer, and Mad Realities co-founder Alice Ma is executive producer.
“Hollywood Iq is the trivia show of the modern age, designed for our generation and built for the Internet,” says Ma. “Just like crosswords were born from print, Jeopardy! from TV, and HQ Trivia from apps, Hollywood Iq comes from the world of shortform content. With Hollywood Iq, we...

The legacy of Albert Einstein cannot be overstated — even when we take the scientist’s accomplishments for granted, he’s one of our planet’s most famous pop culture figures, recognizable across generations. The way he’s been depicted on screen has ranged from well-researched takes on the man’s life, such as Nat Geo Channel’s new anthology series “Genius,” premiering today, to, shall we say, somewhat more out-there fare.

2016 has been a hard year, and over the past several months, quite a few iconic celebrities have said good-bye. Today, the Ghostbusters family has lost one of their own as the sad news was announced that Alice Drummond has passed away. She was 88 at the time of her death.
A veteran stage actress, Alice is perhaps best known as Alice the librarian in the original 1984 Ghostbusters. Though she only had a very small part, her scene kicks off what would become one of the most iconic movies of that generation. And she is a fan-favorite, getting the movie off to a rousing start as she comes face-to-face with the movie's first terrifying ghost.
Drummond reportedly died at her home in the Bronx, New York, this past Wednesday. She succumbed to complications that result from a fall she had survived over two months ago. The news was reported by the New York Times.

Early in Steve Jobs, the Aaron Sorkin-scripted, Danny Boyle-directed biopic about the mercurial Apple co-founder, the hero does something so right yet so peculiar that you understand why a cult sprung up around him. It's 1984, a few weeks after the legendary SuperBowl commercial heralding the arrival of the Apple Macintosh. The official public unveiling is minutes away. The crowd, which has been kept waiting as its creator dithers and tinkers backstage, has begun muttering and stomping its feet. Jobs is a serenely confident pill of a man, micromanaging everything,...

In a time where most romantic movies are emotionally manipulative and cringe-inducing to sit through, Words and Pictures is a real treat. Directed by Fred Schepisi, the man who also gave us Roxanne and I.Q., the film stars Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche as rival teachers at an advanced public school and artists whose passion for their work seems to have disappeared.
Jack Marcus (Owen) is an English teacher who has a great love of words that just enthralls his students, but he has not written a book in a long time and instead finds himself getting drunk on a regular basis. Dina Delsanto (Binoche) is the new art teacher who does not go easy on her students, and her worsening rheumatoid arthritis keeps her from completing any new paintings. When these two meet, they try to one up the other to the point where they start up a competition...

"I don't like to go down the same road with films, I don't like to repeat myself," director Fred Schepisi told us recently over the phone from Australia. Indeed looking over his filmography, one can't deny the diversity of his work in a career that has spanned more than four decades. From bracing drama ("A Cry In The Dark") to a John Le Carré based thriller ("The Russia House") to comedy ("Roxanne," "I.Q.," "Mr. Baseball"), Schepisi has worked with talent ranging from rising actors that would go on to become worldwide superstars (Will Smith in "Six Degrees Of Separation") to bonafide legends (Paul Newman in "Empire Falls"). And for his latest, "Words And Pictures," which premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival this week, Schepisi is once again trying something different. Starring Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche, the film tells the story of former literary star turned prep school English teacher Jack Marcus,...

When one thinks of the word “genius,” the first image that pops into most people’s heads is that of scientist Albert Einstein and his unique hair style. Considered a pioneer of human knowledge, Einstein quickly became one of the most recognizable figures of the 20th century. No major film autobiography has ever been made of him, but Walt Disney Pictures almost did make one in the 1980s, starring Richard Dreyfuss as the famous physicist. However, Dreyfuss was more interested in playing another famous figure of the 20th century. As Disney insider Jim Hill says,
“This was a film that was supposed to be done right after Tron. Richard Dreyfuss came in and signed a deal with Disney…. They were going to do the film autobiography of Albert Einstein…. They were actually going to use the CG graphics that were done for Tron to explain Albert Einstein’s revolutionary theories.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Australian director Fred Schepisi was something of a big deal. The 73-year-old filmmaker got his start back in Oz with 1976's "The Devil's Playground," made his U.S. debut with the underrated Western "Barbarosa," and went on to make acclaimed, successful pictures like "Roxanne," "A Cry In The Dark," "The Russia House" and "Six Degrees Of Separation," as well as a few that didn't quite connect in the same way, like "I.Q." and "A Fish Called Wanda" semi-sequel "Fierce Creatures." The filmmaker's been relatively quiet in the last ten years, with 2003's Michael/Kirk/Cameron Douglas disaster "It Runs In The Family" and 2005's acclaimed HBO drama "Empire Falls," which featured Paul Newman's final live-action performance, as his only output.
But with his latest film "The Eye Of The Storm," a return to Australia that stars Geoffrey Rush, Judy Davis and Sam Neill, given...

Remember that movie from the mid-90s called I.Q.? One of the last movies of Walter Matthau's career, the Oscar winning actor portrayed Albert Einstein in a romantic comedy with Tim Robbins and Meg Ryan. It was a silly little film and critics didn't go nuts over it, but it was an interesting feature film version of the most famous theoretical physicist of all time. You know what would be even weirder, though? If you had Robin Williams star in a movie about Einstein. Laugh all you want, it's something that the comedian wants to do. Bang Showbiz (via Digital Spy) recently spoke with Williams, and during the interview the actor expressed his interest in playing both the inventor of the theory of general relativity as well as our 26th president. "At some point I would love to play Einstein," Willaims said. "I would love to play him at...

Michael York dashes onto the cinematic scene as the blundering but very enthusiastic D'Artagnan in Richard Lester's hugely enjoyable period comic romp. The late great Roy Kinnear is the long-suffering vassal of aristocratic swordsmen Oliver Reed, Richard Chamberlain and Frank Finlay, whilst Raquel Welch and Faye Dunaway shine as heroine and villainess, respectively. Deadline [1] has the press release for Einstein, which announces that the film will be shot in Germany and Europe, and that casting will be undertaken in the next few weeks. Sales are going on at the European Film Market in Berlin right now. (And this is a different project from a previously announced Einstein biopic, which was being written [2] by Stephen Schiff. On October 23, actor Lou Jacobi passed away in his Manhattan home at the age of 95.
Born in Toronto, Jacobi began acting as a boy, but really kicked off his career in the '50s, playing Captain Noakes in Is Your Honeymoon Really Necessary in 1953 and soon making his Broadway debut in 1955 as one of the attic dwellers in The Diary of Anne Frank.
