Although Steve Martin and Laura Linney fight over the custody of a child in this film, both stars did not become first-time parents until much later in life, and well over 10 years after the release of this movie. Steve Martin became a father at 67 in 2012; Linney became a first-time mother at 50 in 2014.
When Tanny gives the envelope of money to Marsha, he wakes her by saying "Pennies from Heaven!". In 1981 Steve Martin starred in the movie Pennies From Heaven as a man who has an illicit affair with a woman, resulting in a child.
A potentially real (not 555 prefix) phone number with area code 910 was given in the movie. Not long after the movie was made, this area code was established for then central, now southeastern North Carolina.
