Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt may have bad blood flowing for each other to this very day, but that doesn’t mean that she’s got a completely bad reputation when it comes to her relations with exes.
Yes, the eight-year-long divorce battle came to a conclusion at the end of 2024 when Pitt and Jolie reached a settlement, but they’re not exactly completely done when it comes to their legal issues.
You know the one ex-husband that’s not dragging the ‘Eternals’ actress to court? Johnny Lee Miller.

Original Scream star Matthew Lillard was on hand at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida this past weekend to not only confirm his return to the beloved horror franchise, but to joke about how his seemingly deceased character will return in Scream 7. Lillard played Stu Macher in Wes Craven's 1996 classic, one half of the Ghostface killer alongside Skeet Ulrich's Billy Loomis. He was presumed dead after being stabbed numerous times and having a TV dropped on his head, but in the world of Scream, not everything is as it seems.
Per People, Lillard and Ulrich appeared on a panel together this past weekend at the Orange County Convention Center to discuss their time in the franchise and Lillard's return. Fans have been clamoring for years for the star to come back to the series that helped make him famous, and to drive that point home, Lillard commented: "I've been asked...

When the sci-fi action flick “Virtuosity” was first released in the summer of 1995, it opened to mixed reviews and modest box office. It was the kind of mid-range studio programmer (it came from Paramount under the Sherry Lansing regime) that came out with dependable frequency in those days, a movie enjoyed by some but quickly forgotten by most before it left theaters to make way for other genre films like “Desperado,” “The Tie That Binds,” and “Hackers.”
Looking back now, studio slates like the ones Lansing oversaw — release schedules that made room for an abundance of medium-budget comedies (“Clueless”), thrillers (“Primal Fear”), sci-fi films (“The Relic”) and adult dramas (“Nobody’s Fool”) in between large-scale blockbusters like “Mission: Impossible,” “Braveheart,” and “Titanic” — seem far more varied and artistically fruitful than they did at the time, when we never knew such range was in any danger of disappearing. Hackers is one of the most underrated movies of the 1990s, and while it is popular with audiences, its Rotten Tomatoes score is surprisingly low. Hackers was not an immediate success, but it has become a cult hit over time. Many of the best-known 1990s movies contain a cast that was already famous at the time, but Hackers is unusual as it features several early-career appearances of actors who went on to become major stars. Hackers is often considered one of Angelia Jolie's best 1990s movies and also stars Jonny Lee Miller, Laurence Mason, and Matthew Lillard.
Hackers is about a group of high school students who use their tech skills to stop an evil corporation from taking over the world using a computer virus. It is one of the earliest movies to explore the potential behind modern computers, for better or worse. While Hackers contains many examples of things movies get wrong about hacking,...

Movies are one of the best ways to get a feel of what life was like during the years they were released, and many from the 1990s sum up the aesthetics, worries, and changes seen throughout society during the decade. Much of the decade is captured in films reflecting the rise in grunge music and aesthetics, the increase in internet activity and technological advancements, and the fear and rebellious attitudes that formed as a result of the two. The latter can be seen in films like The Matrix and Existenz.
Other films represent the '90s through their wardrobe, soundtrack selections, and encapsulation of young adult life, such as the films Clerks and Singles. While many of these films can be enjoyed today, some '90s movies don't work with modern audiences. This is because their themes and aesthetics are dated snapshots of society at the time and don't fully...

Angelina Jolie is one of the most celebrated actors of her generation, and one of Hollywood's most notable humanitarians. She's done vitally important work on behalf of refugees for the United Nations, and has also taken up for women's rights in the third world. She's an extraordinary person, but it all started with acting -- and overcoming the potential stigma of being what the kids nowadays call a "nepo-baby."
Yes, Angelina Jolie is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. Her father was a pivotal actor in the New Hollywood movement of the 1960s and '70s, starring in such trailblazing films as "Midnight Cowboy," "Deliverance," and "Coming Home" (for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor). Jolie got her first film role alongside her father in Hal Ashby's ill-fated comedy "Lookin' to Get Out" in 1982, but didn't return to movies until 1993 as the lead...

Dancing With the Stars has opened the door for new opportunities for some celebrities who have competed on the show. In Season 33, The Bachelor's Joey Graziadei and his fiance Kelsey Anderson went from reality TV stars to popular influencers. Model Brooks Nader and Gleb Savchenko's showmance made constant headlines. Even former mirrorball trophy winner and 90s actor, Alfonso Ribeiro, found himself with a brand-new career as the show's co-host.
However, not every celebrity who gets approached to be on DWTS finds it a great opportunity for their career. A certain Hollywood actor turned down the chance to be a contestant for fears that he wouldn't be able to land any more serious acting roles. For this actor, the thought of competing on the beloved reality TV show would just do the opposite for his career.

In the 1990s -- back when the internet was new and smartphones didn't yet exist -- there was a healthy amount of skepticism about new technology. "Cyberspace," a term coined by sci-fi author William Gibson, was a terrifying new concept for some, and many Luddites feared it. A stationary network of millions of unknown users? And they're all tapping into the same ineffable, electric realm of information that's Not inside my personal computer? It's like someone peeled back a layer of reality and revealed a whole new dimension. Indeed, Brett Leonard's 1992 sci-fi/horror film "The Lawnmower Man" refers to the 'net in those exact terms. That film also posited that Virtual Reality would come to replace real reality.

Timothée Chalamet’s ping pong movie is adding a few more players.
Odessa A’zion has joined the cast of “Marty Supreme,” from A24 and director Josh Safdie. Rounding out the cast are magician Penn Jillette (of Penn & Teller), investor and “Shark Tank” personality Kevin O’Leary (aka Mr. Wonderful) and “Bad Lieutenant” filmmaker Abel Ferrara.
Specifics about their roles are kept under wraps, but this motley crew joins previously announced cast members Gwyneth Paltrow and Tyler, the Creator in the film, which is said to be about a professional table tennis player. Plot details are unknown, but A24 posted an image of a ping pong ball with the words “coming soon” after Variety broke news of the project in July.
Safdie and Ronald Bronstein wrote the original screenplay for “Marty Supreme” and produce alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24. Production kicks off in the fall.

As I’m sure you wonderful gore-hounds know by now, we love every weird and wonderful sub genre the twisted world of horror has thrown our way over the years. Sit this particular horror fan down to watch the latest splatterfest, zombie massacre, creature feature or slasher flick, to name but a few, and I’d be happy as a pig in shit. Happier in fact. Folk horror and witchcraft is one subgenre that I’ve grown to increasingly appreciate over the years, and most recently the work of Robert Eggers, for example, has had me enthralled. It was his 2015 folk horror, The Witch, that first introduced me to his nuanced, macabre yet beautifully crafted movies, and everything he’s produced since has been a must see. The trailer for his take on Nosferatu has just dropped at the time of writing this video and it looks immense. However, with...

Angelina Jolie's action movies have solidified her legacy as a true action movie star, despite her recent shift towards drama. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Mr. and Mrs. Smith have left a lasting impact in the action movie genre, leading to reboots and adaptations. Although Jolie's upcoming projects seem focused on drama, the potential spy thriller Maude v Maude may offer a chance for her action side to shine once again.
Two years ago, I thought Angelina Jolie was making an action movie comeback, but now I fear that her movies will no longer be part of the genre. Jolie first established her career in the 1990s, picking up roles in movies like Hackers and Gia. However, her big break came in 1999 when she played Lisa Rowe in Girl, Interrupted. From there, Jolie catapulted to international fame, taking on iconic roles in varying genres, such as Lara Croft, Mrs.

If there was a decade that truly helped to shape the future of the crime thriller genre, it was undoubtedly the 1990s. The era churned out numerous movies that have become the benchmark for how to craft a movie about the hunt for a serial killer, or flashing femme fatales with a penchant for murder. Movies such as The Silence of the Lambs, Misery, Se7en and Basic Instinct set a benchmark for not only quality in the crime flick, but also by delivering iconic sequences that are synonymous within the genre. Lambs had Anthony Hopkins’ wonderful Chianti sipping performance, Misery gleefully smashed ankles, Se7en had the tragic head in a box scene, while Basic Instinct allowed Sharon Stone to show more than just her acting ability. The point is, by the time the movie we’re focusing on in this episode was released in 1999, audiences had preconceived expectations, thanks...

Ray Chan, the art director and production designer for Marvel Studios who contributed to Guardians of the Galaxy, three Avengers movies, the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine and more, has died. He was 56.
Chan died Tuesday near his home in Wales, his family announced. No cause of death was divulged.
“Ray truly was one of the best, in so many ways,” they said. “He had an exuberance for life, which was tragically cut short and will be sorely missed. He loved his career and lived a rich and wonderful life, and his memory will live on through all those he knew and the films he helped make happen.”
Chan served as supervising art director on Thor: The Dark World (2013), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Doctor Strange (2016) and the Avengers films Age of Ultron (2015), Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019).

Deadline reports a new sports documentary is being planned for kickboxing champion and martial arts movie star Benny “The Jet” Urquidez. The names associated with the production almost seems like a bingo announcer called out randomly drawn names from my favorite childhood movies. Keanu Reeves, who himself is no stranger to the martial arts world and action genre, has partnered with Fisher Stevens, who is known for projects like Short Circuit 1 & 2 and Hackers, to produce the documentary on Urquidez, whom I’ve talked about before on my Dragons Forever retrospective.
The documentary, which is titled The Jet, is currently in production with the Emmy-nominated sports documentary editor turned filmmaker, Jennifer Tiexiera, directing the film. Tiexiera has most recently also directed a three-part series for HBO called Unveiled: Surviving La Luz del Mundo, which has also recently been nominated for an Emmy in the catagory of Outstanding Crime and Justice Documentary.

Talk To Me breakout star Sophie Wilde is set to appear in Watch Dogs, a long-in-gestation adaptation of Ubisoft’s hacking-based videogame series.
As such Hollywood films as Blackhat and Hackers have taught us, only the coolest and most photogenic people engage in cybercrime. The cool-and-trendy-hacker theme was continued in Watch Dogs, a series of sandbox action adventure videogames first published by Ubisoft in 2014.
Spawning a hit franchise comprising two sequels and counting, Watch Dogs sees high-tech outlaws cause all kinds of digital mischief in cities around the world, with each game taking in stealth, driving, fisticuffs, shooting and tinkering with electronic devices.
A film adaptation based on the series was first floated by Ubisoft Motion Pictures back in 2013, before the original game was even released. The division’s plans for a multitude of movies based on its games took something of a body blow, however, when 2016’s Assassin’s Creed,...

Matthew Lillard has been voicing Shaggy in Scooby-Doo movies and TV series since the first live-action theatrical film in 2002. After replacing original voice actor Casey Kasem, Lillard has lent his voice to Shaggy in every Scooby-Doo animated TV series since 2010, except in the 2023 HBO spinoff Velma. Warner Bros. produced 25 direct-to-video animated Scooby-Doo movies from 2010-2023, all featuring Lillard as Shaggy.
An upcoming installment in the Scooby-Doo franchise will see Matthew Lillard returning as the voice of Shaggy, a role he's been playing in movies and TV shows for the past 22 years. After starring in films like Hackers, Scream, and She's All That, Matthew Lillard took on the role of the snack-loving and easily spooked Shaggy Rogers in the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo film. He later reprised this role in the 2004 sequel Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. Years later, when longtime Shaggy voice actor Casey Kasem announced his retirement due to health problems, Lillard...

Jonny Lee Miller is sharing some very rare comments about his ex-wife Angelina Jolie!

In a new interview on Radio X, Jonny recalled going on a parachuting date with a “fearless” Angelina.
Keep reading to find out more…“How have you ever tried to impress the object of your affection?” host Johnny Vaughan asked.
After taking a moment to think, Jonny started laughing and said, “I jumped out of an airplane…Well, it wasn’t my idea.”
When asked why he would do such a thing, Jonny answered, “I was dating a young lady called Angelina. And she she said, ‘Let’s do something exciting this weekend.’”

"Five Nights at Freddy's" may not have been universally praised when it came out last month, but at least nobody had many bad things to say about Matthew Lillard's performance. "The casting of Matthew Lillard as Mike's career counselor becomes a perfect ode to a beloved scream king of an entire generation," writes /Film's own Jeremy Mathai in his review of the movie. It may have been nearly 27 years since "Scream" came out, but people still remember and love Lillard's role as deranged killer Stu Macher, and any reminiscent role is always a delight to watch. "Scream" fans might never get their questionable desire for Stu's return fulfilled, but "Five Nights At Freddy's" gave them the next big thing.
For Lillard, one of the best parts of this movie was simply that it brought him back into theaters. Despite his major roles in both the "Scream" and "Scooby Doo" franchises,...

With the actor’s strike finally over, Matthew Lillard can finally talk about the plum role he has in Five Nights at Freddy’s. In a recent THR interview, Lillard mentioned being thrilled about how fans have reacted to the film, noting:
“Being 53 years old — and being around the block a couple times — I have a much deeper sense of appreciation in this moment than I probably have ever had because I didn’t expect it. I realize that these opportunities don’t come around that often. It’s been a really rich, joyful moment because I can sort of sit back and appreciate it on a deeper level.”
Lillard’s character, who has a rich mythology in the game, could well wind-up being a recurring presence in the Five Nights at Freddy’s world, especially with the film such a huge hit in theaters and on Peacock. But, it turns...

"All I wanted was to come home to spend Christmas with you." Disney has unveiled an official trailer for a short film called The Shepherd, based on the book about a Raf pilot's miraculous flight. This project is co-produced by none other than fellow filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón, who's enthusiastic about adapting this story. On Christmas Eve in 1957, a fighter pilot on his way home from a distant mission gets lost mid-flight over water and needs a miracle to land safely. It will, of course, be streaming this December just in time for the holidays. Cuarón explains: "I was a long-time admirer of this story and, being old friends with Iain, he was the perfect match to bring this beloved narrative to life on film for the first time." I'm nice to hear this kind of support. He was inspired by the success of last year's short Le Pupille, which we've also added below.

In 1993, author Irvine Welsh released his first novel Trainspotting into the world. The novel centered around the lives of heroin users Renton, Spud, Sickboy and their friends Begbie and Tommy. Released in the United Kingdom in 1995, and later released to America in 1996, the movie would also depict heroin addicts in Edinburgh, Scotland as they deal with life, drugs and their consequences as well as their various exploits. While Matthew Lillard is best known for his turns in the movies Scream and Scooby-Doo, he also played a memorable character on the police procedural Criminal Minds. First rising to prominence in the mid-1990s in such films as Serial Mom and Hackers, Lillard quickly became one of the most versatile young stars in Hollywood. With his deceptively wide range and affable demeanor, he set himself apart from his youthful contemporaries through the sheer number of characters he could play. Even as he stopped starring in blockbuster movies, Lillard found a new niche for himself as a brilliant character actor, and shows like Criminal Minds were a perfect fit.
Running for 15 seasons during its initial stint on the air, Criminal Minds was a change of pace from the usual police procedural because it called on the real science of criminal profiling. Set within the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, the series...

The best thing about Hackers is its sense of style. And, if you know much about computer nerds, that should tell you everything you need to know. Flashy and complex, this Angelina Jolie-led 1995 tech-crime thriller attempts to fictionalize a very real phenomenon with mixed results. Improbable situations and technobabble tip you off early — this movie is going to be a cartoonish parody of hacking, a trip for '90s teens who wanted to believe in the transformative power of taking matters into their own hands. But just as real hacking isn't typing furiously while numbers fall down a screen, Hackers isn't just a bad tech movie. It's risen from the ashes as a cult classic, even received warmly upon release by some critics for its distinctive visual style. Though the actual hacking in Hackers is inaccurate, the world of the film is entertaining as hell. For many fans, that's more than enough.

Warning: spoilers from True Lies season 1, episode 4 ahead! Matthew Lillard guest starred on True Lies, and he may be just what the show needs to get a second season. The CBS series shares the same name as the 1994 Blockbuster hit starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis, but other than the pilot, and some character names, it’s pretty different from the movie. For example, Harry and Helen start going on missions in the credit scene in the film, but the series gets to that point in the first episode and becomes a spy procedural. In addition, the True Lies show fixes many of the movie's problems.

Phenomena is a substantially different movie depending on how you first saw it. Audiences in its native Italy were able to see the original 116-minute film as director Dario Argento intended for its initial release in 1985. That cut was pruned down to 110 minutes for international release. In America, however, New Line Cinema cut the picture to 83 minutes before putting it out under the title Creepers in 1986. Finding its audience in the VHS rental market, this was the only version available in the US until DVD came around.
Each version has its advantages and disadvantages. The original integral cut contains everything, but it drags a bit in the middle and there are a few moments that were never dubbed into English. The international version is a bit tighter, mostly trimming frames and sacrificing only a few lines of dialogue. Those who grew up with the Creepers cut may prefer its punchier pace,...

Even in 1995, it was easy to snicker at Iain Softley's computer-centric cyber-thriller "Hackers." Firstly, because computer technology is so complex, and develops so quickly, any mention of modern cyber-gear would definitely be dated only a year later. Actual computer experts saw right through Softley's and screenwriter Rafael Moreu's attempts at being cutting edge.
Additionally, Softley was presented with an interesting problem. While computer hackers occupied an exciting new technological subculture in 1995, people sitting at keyboards weren't very cinematically dynamic. Softley solved this problem by turning computer usage into something a little more abstract, using glowing animations, swirling cameras, and projecting images onto his actors' faces to make his film visually interesting.
Softley also had to more or less create his own version of hacker culture from the ground up. He dressed his teen protagonists in complex neo-punk garb and invented their own patois. He assembled a glorious three-volume...

"The Skeleton Key" is a strange movie. For about 90 minutes, it's a routine supernatural thriller with all the usual mysteries and scares, something that seems instantly forgettable. Then it unloads a nasty little twist that suddenly throws everything that went before into a ghoulish light, making you re-evaluate all the clues threaded through the story.
The film has its fans, but I still can't quite decide whether it is a clever ploy from screenwriter Ehren Kruger ("Scream 3," "The Ring") and Iain Softley or just bad filmmaking. The film has its fans, but I still can't quite decide whether it is a clever ploy from screenwriter Ehren Kruger ("Scream 3," "The Ring") and Iain Softley or just bad filmmaking. After all, what is the point of constructing a puzzle box of a film if it only becomes interesting after the credits roll?

In the 1990s, the internet was scary. A lot of new communication technology had opened up to the public, and Hollywood responded by making a slew of paranoid cyber-thrillers, each one positing a near-future world where one's personal information was no longer private, and where wealthy, corrupt international companies paid top-dollar to get said information for their own nefarious purposes. It was a future where the human consciousness had been damaged by prolonged consumption to increasingly truncated information nuggets. I know -- crazy, right?
Movies like Brett Leonard's "The Lawnmower Man" envisioned V.R. technology as capable of forcibly evolving the human brain. Iain Softley's "Hackers" (1995) uncovered a neo-punk subculture of computer-savvy teens who would access anything and do anything their prankish minds desired. Irwin Winkler's "The Net" (1995) was the most daring of all, suggesting that future people might spend all their time in online chat rooms...

Angelina Jolie will be starring in a new opera biopic from director Pablo Larraín. Larraín is a Chilean filmmaker who has been working regularly since the mid-2000s, though he didn't make his English-language feature debut until 2016 with Jackie, which starred Natalie Portman as former First Lady Jackie Kennedy in the days and years following the assassination of her husband, John F. Kennedy. After taking a brief detour to helm the Spanish-language adoption drama Ema in 2019 and the Stephen King miniseries adaptation Lisey's Story in 2021, he returned to English filmmaking with another major biopic: 2021's Spencer, which starred Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana.
Jolie has been a major figure in the industry for even longer, beginning her career as a child actress in the early 1980s, though she didn't get her major breakout role until taking the lead in Hackers in 1995. From then she went on to become one of Hollywood's premiere A-list stars,...

With its list of new releases for October 2022, Amazon Prime Video isn’t fully aboard the spooky season train but it is at least spooky adjacent.
The biggest release this month is Prime Video original series The Peripheral on Oct. 21. While not outright horror, it does sound more than a little unnerving. Based on a 2014 sci-fi novel by William Gibson, The Peripheral stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a woman in a near-future society who may have just discovered an alternate reality. Fittingly, Westworld‘s Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy serve as executive producers.
The other TV series of note in October is The Devil’s Hour on Oct. 28. This British thriller comes form Steven Moffat and tells the story of a woman who wakes up at 3:33 a.m. (the devil’s hour) each night to receive a disturbing vision.
October is home to a couple of Amazon movies of note as well.

After dropping the epic “Lord of the Rings” television series on Prime Video last month, it’s no surprise the streaming giant is taking it easy this October. They still have plenty of new shows and movies coming out, though none quite on the scale of their journey to Middle Earth.
That being said, they’re transitioning from the world of fantasy to science fiction with their new series “The Peripheral.” Touted as being from the creators of HBO’s “Westworld,” Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the time-traveling series is based on author William Gibson’s bestselling sci-fi novel.
Per an official synopsis: “The Peripheral” centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Flynne is smart, ambitious, and doomed. She has no future; until the future comes calling for her. “The Peripheral” is...
