As some kid from Minnesota once sang, "the times, they are a-changin'." Following its initial theatrical release in December of 2024, Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown" became available on VOD at the end of February. Then, on March 27th, it was made available to stream on Hulu for subscribers to that service. As of this writing, the film is currently number one on Hulu's top charts, making it the most watched film on the service right now.
Generally, this shouldn't be too surprising at all. Hulu has long had ties with Disney and 20th Century Studios, the parent companies of Searchlight Pictures, which distributes "A Complete Unknown," and most 20th Century/Searchlight releases do well on the service as a result. In addition, the film was a very buzzworthy release, becoming a bit of a dark horse contender during this past awards season. This was especially the case for star Timothée Chalamet,...

Fans can now watch an underrated 19-year-old superhero film helmed by the late Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. My Super Ex-Girlfriend, starring Uma Thurman, is now streaming on Hulu.
Co-starring Luke Wilson, the romantic comedy movie features Thurman as the superhero Jennifer Johnson/G-Girl, who received the powers of flight, superhuman strength, speed, heightened senses, invulnerability, super breath, and heat vision after being exposed to radiation from a crashed meteorite as a teenager. After Wilson's character, Matt Saunders, stops a purse snatcher from stealing Jennifer's purse, the pair begin dating. Matt eventually dumps her for being needy and controlling, prompting her to use her abilities to make his life a living hell. My Super Ex-Girlfriend also stars Anna Faris as Hannah Lewis, Eddie Izzard as Professor Bedlam, Rainn Wilson as Vaughn Haige, and Wanda Sykes as Carla Dunkirk.

James Mangold, fresh from seeing his Bob Dylan offering A Complete Unknown snag eight Oscar nominations, received a hero’s welcome this weekend upon returning to the Sundance Film Festival where he got his start as an auteur.
Following in the footsteps of inaugural honoree Christopher Nolan, Mangold received a Trailblazer Award during the Celebrating Sundance Institute gala fundraiser presented by Google TV and held at Park City’s Grand Hyatt Deer Valley on Friday night. The filmmaker, who has amassed an impressively diverse resume that spans genres, budgets and blockbusters, made the most of his time in the spotlight by retracing his festival roots and delivering a call to action to all of the storytellers in the room.
He was joined on the fundraiser program by fellow honorees Michelle Satter of the Sundance Institute, Cynthia Erivo (Visionary Award), Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie (Vanguard Award for Fiction) and...

James Mangold misses the era when movies weren’t embarrassed to make audiences feel something. The director of the Bob Dylan musical biopic “A Complete Unknown” and comic book adaptation “Logan” believes there’s a growing hostility to films that wear “their hearts on their sleeve.”
“Most of my generation, my peers, have been generally fascinated by irony or detachment. I never felt completely at home in that idiom because I felt those [films] were cool and clever, but not necessarily moving,” the newly minted Oscar nominee said at Sundance’s annual gala on Friday night, where he was feted with the second-ever Trailblazer Award (the first was bestowed to Christoper Nolan in 2024). “Movies that put their feelings on the line, the way we talk about them and use words like melodramatic or chewing the scenery or too much, we kill some of the fearlessness [of directors].”

The Sundance Film Festival chose well in selecting the honorees for tonight’s Gala fundraiser at the newly opened Grand Hyatt Deer Valley.
Beyond freshly minted Oscar nominees Cynthia Erivo and James Mangold in the house to receive the Visionary Award and Trailblazer Award respectively, it was Michelle Satter — the Founding Senior Director of Artists Program for the Sundance Institute — whose stirring speech unified the high-profile packed ballroom.
Satter was recognized for her decades-long commitment to nurturing artists and cultivating independent film through the Sundance Labs. As many in the room knew and as Satter mentioned, she and her husband David Latt were among the thousands who lost their homes in the wildfires that scorched LA. Horribly, this tragedy came after Satter and Latt’s youngest son Michael, an advocate in the industry for social justice, was fatally shot in November 2023 at his Miracle Mile home in a senseless murder.

Everyone assumed that the nominees for the Directors Guild of America’s top DGA Award would include, as they did in Wednesday morning’s nominations announcement, Emilia Pérez’s Jacques Audiard, Anora’s Sean Baker, Conclave’s Edward Berger and The Brutalist’s Brady Corbet.
The question was: Who was going to snag the fifth and final slot?
The aforementioned quartet was recently joined on the Golden Globe Awards’ nominations list by The Substance’s Coralie Fargeat and All We Imagine as Light’s Payal Kapadia; and on the Critics Choice Awards’ nominations list by Fargeat, Wicked’s Jon M. Chu, Nickel Boys’ RaMell Ross and Dune: Part Two’s Denis Villeneuve.
But as exciting and glamorous as those awards shows are, they are actually less reliable predictors of Oscar recognition than the picks of the DGA, which more closely mirrors the directors branch of the Academy, which, in turn,...

How James Mangold’s Early Experience with Robert De Niro Began a Career-Long Love Affair with Actors
Ever since he made his feature directorial debut with “Heavy” in 1995, James Mangold has been known for his range, deftly jumping back and forth between crowd-pleasing genre fare like “Identity” and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” powerhouse character studies like “Copland” and “Girl Interrupted,” light romantic comedies (“Kate & Leopold”) and, perhaps most famously, musical biopics like “Walk the Line” and his latest film, the Bob Dylan movie “A Complete Unknown.”
What all of these films have in common is a sensitivity to performance that often yields the best work from actors as varied in styles and approaches as Joaquin Phoenix, Meg Ryan, Sylvester Stallone, Christian Bale, and Timothée Chalamet. “A Complete Unknown” is possibly Mangold’s best film yet in this regard, as it boasts superb work by not only Chalamet as Dylan but Ed Norton as Pete Seeger, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Elle Fanning as...

James Mangold has proven himself to be a very consistent filmmaker with a true talent for working within many genres. There aren’t many directors working today who can say that they’ve made westerns, romantic comedies, crime thrillers, music biopics, and blockbuster franchise sequels, but Mangold has managed to show diversity within his output. The consistency of quality is critical to Mangold’s longevity within the industry; even the weaker projects in his filmography have noteworthy performances and excellent production design.
Not every single project that Mangold has worked on has been successful. “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” was a major disappointment that did not do justice to the Steven Spielberg films that preceded it, and “Knight and Day” was an awkward action comedy that seemed to misuse Tom Cruise. That being said, the vast majority of Mangold’s work has been of very high quality, with...

The introduction of Darkness subclasses in Destiny 2, namely Stasis and Strand, was a big deal for the game. The game has a big arsenal of heavy exotic weapons but lacks depth when it comes to Darkness subclasses. While Light weapons have many options in the heavy category, players who prefer Darkness subclasses, such as Stasis and Strand don’t.
The game could definitely do with more variety. | Image Credit: Bungie
With only Winterbite and Salvation’s Grip representing Stasis and no heavy Strand weapons at all, the gap is noticeable. For a game that prides itself on build diversity, this oversight significantly limits the creative potential of players, especially those leaning into Darkness-focused builds.

Few bands have made an impact on the modern alternative rock genre like Linkin Park has. Pioneering nu-metal rock bands like Korn, Faith No More, and Public Enemy helped pioneer the rising hip-hop-infused genre of the 1990s with the grunge and hard rock influences of groups like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Stone Temple Pilots. Linkin Park became a result of these two decade-defining pools of rock on the heels of the pioneering electronic rock sound of Nine Inch Nails. Their 2000 debut album Hybrid Theory combined these influences and became one of the most emblematic LPs of the 21st century.
The group's 2003 sophomore effort, Meteroa, is one of the most purchased albums of the 21st century with more than 27 million copies sold worldwide. Despite their iconic original hip-hop/metal sound, mixed with Mike Shinoda's piercing bars and Chester Bennington's even more piercing scream vocals, Linkin Park leaned more...

Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold will be honored with a Visionary Tribute at the upcoming Gotham Awards for their work on A Complete Unknown, the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic from Searchlight Pictures — a distinction recognizing “groundbreaking collaborations that push the boundaries of storytelling in film.”
“In A Complete Unknown, Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold have beautifully captured Dylan’s emergence in 1960s New York not just as an artistic evolution, but as a meditation on the necessity of change,” said Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of event’s parent org The Gotham Film & Media Institute.
“Through Chalamet’s breathtakingly authentic performance and Mangold’s masterful direction, we witness Dylan’s transformation from folk prophet to electric rebel, showing how growth often requires letting go of the very relationships and identities that shaped us. The beloved Australian rom-com series is finally back for its second season and while I want to say that everything is going hunky dory for our leading couple, in my opinion, it just won’t end up that way. Created by and starring the real-life couple Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall, Colin from Accounts is back with its much anticipated second season with the always-bickering Ashley and Gordon.
Colin from Accounts picks up the story of Ashley and Gordon two weeks after they gave up Colin to a family of three. Now, regretting their decision they have been pestering the family to give Colin so that they don’t have to deal with the question of what their relationship is like if Colin is taken out of the equation because he was the one who brought them together.

Two brothers embark on a journey across the American West, hoping to heal deep wounds and forge a new bond. Older brother Pete has attempted to take his own life once more, leading to worried parents sending younger sibling Jake to drive Pete home. Hoping a change of scenery might help, their father believes Pete simply seeks attention. But underneath, real struggles tear at Pete’s soul.
Writer and director Sheridan O’Donnell draws from personal regret over a friend’s suicide for his debut film. He examines the turbulent path facing those with a loved one in such darkness. How do you care for them? Keep them safe? Help them see what they’d leave behind. This film offers no easy fixes, only earnest empathy.
Pete wrestles with mental health issues, struggling as many do today between burying emotions or openly facing fear. Jake wants to understand his once-looked-upon brother.

Capturing the essence of rock ‘n’ roll on film is often difficult. It’s not just about the music; it’s about the attitude, urges, style, and passion to get to the heart of a form of expression that conjures inner demons and lets them out to play. Movies like Airheads, This is Spinal Tap, Detroit Rock City, Metalhead, School of Rock, Heavy Metal, and Rock ‘n’ Roll High School stand tall as some of the best of what cinema has to offer regarding the raw, inspirational power of rock ‘n’ roll. This year, we have Deaner ’89, an exploratory and nostalgia-tinged comedy about Dean Murdoch, a headbanger on the verge of emerging from his heavy metal cocoon in the small town of Haylen, Manitoba, Canada.

SiR’s biggest challenge when performing is to stay present. As he told Rolling Stone’s Delisa Shannon backstage at Lollapalooza, “Every song deserves its respect,” even if he’s no longer the same person he was when he originally wrote it.
“I try to be present through the whole set, which is a very difficult thing to do and a very daunting task,” he continued. “Especially how emotional some of these songs make me. But I think I’ve gotten good at it. First few shows, I broke down.

The following contains major spoilers for CSI: Vegas Season 3, Episode 10, "Tunnel Vision," which debuted Sunday, May 19 on CBS.
The CSI: Vegas series finale absolutely should not be the series finale -- and it clearly wasn't written as one either. Season 3, Episode 10, "Tunnel Vision" does provide a modicum of closure, in that it wraps up the robot murder case that started in Episode 5, "It Was Automation." Audiences learn who's behind the deaths and why, although the answers are not ones that the viewer will have even thought about.
More importantly, "Tunnel Vision" explains what happened to Chris Park and Maxine Roby, and provides conclusions to some of the emotional storylines that have underwritten the season. Yet because it's not aiming for total completeness, it doesn't serve up everything that fans will be looking for. The episode goes in some directions that it doesn't need to, although that doesn't stop it from...

While we'd expected James Gunn to cast a couple of big names as Superman's Ma and Pa Kent, the filmmaker instead chose to find two actors he felt embody the characters, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell.
There's still no word on who, if anyone, will play Jor-El (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Kurt Russell remains the rumoured fan favourite) but we're expecting Jonathan and Martha to be a huge part of Clark Kent's story. Here's hoping neither of them meets a tragic end, anyway!

SiR’s stately croon exudes grown-and-sexy. The Inglewood, California, R&b singer-songwriter’s style is careful and studied, influenced by the timelessness of Stevie Wonder and John Mayer’s sensitive edge. His 2019 release, Chasing Summer, was a gauzy yarn that still holds up in the field of modern R&b. With its bounce and levity, the LP balanced odes to good weed, chasing skirts, and the city he loves with fleeting explorations of discomfort. He had a jazzy attitude in a landscape that skewed pop, establishing himself as an artist...

Yearning can be a difficult feeling to capture on-screen. Love stories are little without a tragic element, and defining the spaces in between moments of romantic reverie can be a challenge for even the best filmmakers and the most dedicated actors. Yun Su-ik and leading performers Han So-hee and Han Hae-in have taken a surprisingly unconventional approach to a tale of young love with “Heavy Snow”, a slight but cutting series of snapshots of a brief high-school fling that has long-lasting ramifications.
Heavy Snow is screening at BFI Flare
Han Hae-in is Su-an, an acting-major loner living in a small coastal town, introduced by wielding a loaded paintball gun as part of her performance in drama class. When performing Shakespeare, she resembles less of a traditional Hamlet and more of a school shooter, keeping her classmates on the backfoot as she alienates them with her extreme commitment to her version of a classic role.

Maroon 5 will return to Dolby Live at Park MGM this year for another Las Vegas residency.
Their residency is set to begin in May and end in October, with only a few summer dates scheduled.
Last December, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine spoke to Howard Stern on the Howard Stern Show and talked about how the son of singer Graham Nash, Jackson, helped the pop rock band make its name.
“He put us in with some amazing people and helped me make a demo, and that demo wound up being the demo that got us our second record deal. He was hugely integral in us getting a kind of second chance because we wouldn’t have had any money to make the demo, we got signed off of so that was huge,” Levine said. “I will always be eternally grateful to [Graham].”

Bring Me the Horizon have unveiled the new song “Kool-Aid,” the latest single from their forthcoming album Post Human: NeX GEn.
While not as crushing as the band’s early deathcore years, the song hits hard compared to some of the UK act’s more recent pop-inspired output. Singer Oli Sykes goes full-scream mode at certain points in the track, as he sings over some heavy riffage.
Post Human: NeX GEn was originally set to arrive in September 2023, but was indefinitely delayed. A new press release states that the album will “be released this year, with the official release date forthcoming.”
“Kool-Aid” is the first song Bring Me the Horizon have released since announcing the departure of keyboardist/programmer Jordan Fish in late December. It’s unclear if he played on the track, but a new band photo (see above) accompanying the song doesn’t include Fish.

James Mangold has had a successful career with a range of films, from romantic comedies to psychological thrillers to superhero movies. While some of Mangold's films have received mixed reviews, none have been complete failures critically. Mangold's standout films include "Girl, Interrupted," "3:10 to Yuma," "Ford v Ferrari," and his crowning achievement, "Logan."
Known for being involved in recent blockbuster projects, James Mangold has had a long career with several great films. The 59-year-old director began his career in the 1980s working for Disney, but it wasn't until 1995 that he released his first film, Heavy. His subsequent movies, Cop Land and the Academy Award-nominated Girl, Interrupted, earned him critical acclaim. In the 2010s, he took over the 20th Century Fox Wolverine series, directing The Wolverine and Logan. His work on Logan instantly made Mangold one of the industry's most coveted filmmakers; in 2023, he led the long-awaited sequel Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
