In addition, several people were elected to board officer positions, including Lesley Barber, Vice President; DeVon Franklin, Vice President; Donna Gigliotti, Vice President/Treasurer; Lynette Howell Taylor, Vice President and Howard A. Rodman, Vice President/Secretary.

The board of governors has also elected the following to officer positions: Lesley Barber, vice president, Devon Franklin, vice president, Donna Gigliotti, vice president/treasurer, Lynette Howell Taylor, vice president, and Howard A. Rodman, vice president/secretary.

Yang is beginning her sixth year as a governor-at-large. She has been a member of the Academy’s producers branch since 2002 and her producing credits include The People vs. Larry Flynt and The Weight Of Water, and she served as executive producer on The Joy Luck Club and Over The Moon.

Janet Yang, the veteran producer who has served as the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since August 2022, has been re-elected to that position by the Academy’s board of governors, the organization announced on Thursday.

Also elected to vice president positions were Lesley Barber (chair, Membership Committee); DeVon Franklin (chair, Equity and Inclusion Committee); Donna Gigliotti (chair, Finance Committee), who will also serve as treasurer; Lynette Howell Taylor (chair, Awards Committee); and Howard A. Rodman (chair, Governance Committee), who will also serve as secretary.

Franklin, Howell Taylor and Rodman were re-elected; Gigliotti previously served as an officer but not last term; and this will be the first officer stint for Barber.

This will be her third consecutive term and comes as no surprise since AMPAS presidents generally are re-elected each year of a possible four single terms as long as they have not been termed out on the Board itself.

Exclusive: Samantha Mathis and Henry Thomas have joined Paramount Players’ follow-up adaptation of Stephen King’s bestseller Pet Sematary at Paramount Players.

The duo join previously announced cast members Jackson White, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LeBlanc and Pam Grier. Production began last week. The Lindsey Beer-directed movie will debut exclusively on Paramount+.

Beer wrote the script based off Jeff Buhler’s draft of the pic, which Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing.

Paramount made two editions of Pet Sematary, in 1989 and 2019. They combined to gross more than $170 million.

Exclusive: Chelsea Field, who has recurred as Rita Devereaux on NCIS: New Orleans for the past four seasons, has been promoted to series regular for CBS drama’s upcoming seventh season.

After a successful career as an attorney with the Department of Justice, Field’s Rita returned to her hometown of New Orleans to pursue a relationship with Dwayne Pride, her one-time boyfriend, portrayed by her real-life husband, NCIS: Nee Orleans star Scott Bakula. Her character was first introduced in the second half of Season 3.

Created by Gary Glasberg, NCIS: New Orleans is a drama about the local field office that investigates criminal cases involving military personnel in The Big Easy, a city known for its music, entertainment and decadence.

Shirley Knight was born in Goessel, Kansas, on July 5, 1936. Knowing very early in life she wanted to perform, Knight had begun studying to be an opera singer at the age of eleven. Shirley Knight, a Tony- and Emmy Award-winning actress whose long and varied career included Oscar-nominated performances in 1960’s The Dark at the Top of the Stairs and 1962’s Sweet Bird of Youth, died today of natural causes at the home of her daughter Kaitlin Hopkins, in San Marcos, TX. She was 83.

In a memorial tribute addressed to Knight and posted on Facebook, Hopkins, an actress, wrote: “Early this morning April 22nd you passed away, and your sweet soul left us for a better place. I was at your side and you went peacefully. To me, you were ‘just mom’, to some you were ‘Miss Knight’, ‘Miss Shirley’, ‘Mama Shirley’ (to my students), ‘Shirl the Girl’ (to your friends), and ‘Shirley Knight’ to your fans.”

Shirley Knight, who was twice Oscar nominated for best supporting actress, for “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs” (1960) and “Sweet Bird of Youth” (1962), and won a Tony and three Emmys, died on Wednesday of natural causes in San Marcos, Texas. She was 83.

Her daughter, actress Kaitlin Hopkins, paid tribute to Knight in a lengthy Facebook post.

Knight continued to work as she approached 80, reprising her role as Mom in “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” in 2015 after appearing in the 2009 original.

In 1997’s “As Good as It Gets,” starring Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt, Knight played the mother of Hunt’s character; the New York Times called her performance “tenderly funny.”

Jean-Marc Vallee might get a twin win at Saturday’s Directors Guild of America Awards. With 82/25 odds in our predictions, the “Sharp Objects” director is the favorite to take home the TV movie/miniseries prize for the second year in a row, but he ought to watch out for Ben Stiller (“Escape at Dannemora”).

Vallee prevailed last year for “Big Little Lies,” and like with that series, he helmed every episode of “Sharp Objects” as well. He’d be the third person to win this category twice after Lamont Johnson and Jay Roach.

Jeff Daniels could be on the verge of joining an exclusive Emmy club. The actor already has a Best Drama Actor award for his work on “The Newsroom” but this year he could actually add two more to his total. Daniels is currently earning Emmy buzz for his performances in two recent limited series. He’s a Best Movie/Mini Actor candidate for Hulu’s “The Looming Tower” and a Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor contender for Netflix’s “Godless.”

April 4 marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. In a banner story, Variety said the national grieving was profound and the entertainment industry’s reaction was unprecedented: “But then, King was more than just an individual; he was a symbol of civil-rights equality to all men of good will.”

King’s death was on a Thursday, and President Johnson declared Sunday as a national day of mourning. ABC carried live coverage on Monday, April 8, of the march in Memphis, the city in which King was killed. It aired a primetime special on Dr. King that evening, and also featured live coverage of the funeral from Atlanta April 9. But according to Variety, the other networks reported no primetime program changes.

Oliver Stone has interviewed Russian president Vladimir Putin more than a dozen times over the past two years. Now, Stone and his documentary producer Fernando Sulichin have turned those chats into “The Putin Interviews,” a four-hour documentary series airing over four nights this June on Showtime.
