Marvel Studios has adapted many characters from the comics, no matter how minor or strange. From Doctor Strange to the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, it appears that no character was too difficult for Marvel to pull off into making a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Yet one title has been a struggle — Blade. First announced at Comic-Con 2019, the movie has had more than three different release dates, with giving up its November 7, 2025, release date. As of this writing, there is no word on if or even when Blade will open in theaters, and it is approaching six years since the movie was first announced. For reference, that is the same amount of time from when Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Iron Man to the release of The Avengers.

The movie's delays have been cited as due to a number of issues behind the scenes, including changes to the script and a director change.

Sean Connery walked away from acting after a career spanning five decades. His most popular role was obviously 007 as he is still considered one of the best James Bond actors ever. He also had some noteworthy roles in films like Murder on the Orient Express, Highlander, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Hunt for Red October, and The Rock.

His final on-screen role was playing Allan Quatermain, a character that originated in King Solomon’s Mines, in the comic-based film, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. For example, Marvel’s Spider-Man by Insomniac Games has no link to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy from Eidos-Montreal. Upcoming titles like Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Marvel’s Wolverine, and Marvel’s Blade are also completely independent from one another.

But things could have been very different. At one point, Disney considered creating a Marvel Gaming Universe (Mgu), which would have tied all Marvel games together in the same way the MCU connects its movies.

Using the Tomatometer, which provides scores based on the collective opinions of hundreds of film and television critics, Rotten Tomatoes has become a trusted measurement of critical entertainment recommendations for millions of fans. While Rotten Tomatoes scores can provide a glimpse into the quality (or lack thereof) of a given movie or television series, sometimes the scores don't justify a project's worth. Sometimes, mediocre films are given favorable scores due to the production companies they are attached to. Other times, quality movies are unintentionally disparaged by low scores. For example, undeniable classics like The Goofy Movie, Blade, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Top Gun all boast Tomatometer scores of 59% or lower, despite being well-regarded among fans.

General audiences have been outspoken about their feelings that many films nowadays all feel similar. However, there are plenty of modern masterpieces that deserve more praise for what they've done for filmmaking today.

John Wick Changed the Action Genre John Wick (2014)

John Wick is now considered to be one of the biggest and best modern action franchises today, including four films, a prequel streaming series and the spinoff film Ballerina, set for release later this year. While the massive success seems obvious now, the first John Wick film was initially destined to be a straight-to-dvd and Blu-ray release after initial test screenings went poorly.

When Eternals was released in 2021, it became Marvel Studios' first "Rotten" movie. Between that and the fact it dropped during the final months of the pandemic, the movie struggled to make a significant impact at the box office and grossed only $402 million worldwide.

While there's no denying it was a little overstuffed (including an abysmal villain in Kro), there was a lot about Eternals that did work. The movie arguably has something of an undeserved bad rap, particularly as it showed a different side of the MCU and set the stage for exciting future stories.

Unfortunately, four years later, Marvel Studios still hasn't announced plans to resolve the movie's big cliffhanger. As a result, it's unclear when or where we'll learn what became of the Eternals taken from Earth by Arishem for judgment after their role in stopping Tiamut's emergence.

While Blade's vampires were already well-established by the comics and the first film, del Torro introduced a special variant for Blade 2. Far from the monsters that can pass for human, these "Reapers" were a new type of threat and far more animalistic and savage.

Paul W.S. Anderson, known for directing the Resident Evil film series and the cult classic sci-fi horror Event Horizon, is stepping into new territory with his latest project, In the Lost Lands. This fantasy-action film is adapted from a 1982 short story by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.

Anderson described the film as an “adult fairy tale,” full of “bone-crunching violence” and “horrific surprises.” He explains that this movie is unlike anything he has done before, especially in terms of its look and tone. “It’s very different to anything I’ve done before,” Anderson says. “I really wanted to embrace the mythic fairy tale quality of it, so it’s an R-rated fairy tale, that’s for sure.”

We’ve not heard much about Blade Runner 2099, Prime Video TV sequel to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner and Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. As the title suggests, Blade Runner 2099 will be set after the events of the two films and will once again explore what it really means to be human.

Many directors' films end up with multiple versions as a result of studio intervention, international re-cuts, or re-released director's cuts. Ridley Scott is certainly one of those filmmakers, having created different director's cuts for 10 movies throughout his career — Robin Hood, Alien, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster, The Martian, Gladiator, The Counselor, Legend, Kingdom of Heaven, and, perhaps most controversially, his sci-fi masterpiece, 1982's Blade Runner. While Marvel Studios has been credited with delivering some of the most epic superhero pieces to Hollywood, it has also been criticized for making some really terrible decisions – some of which have already backfired and some of which fans are expecting to do so real soon. Unfortunately enough, Daredevil: Born Again has been a victim of it as well.

For one, one of the creative decisions taken by them includes getting rid of a really epic character in the early stages of his introduction in the television-verse. But fans feel this decision was nothing short of a fumble on their hands, for the character was one who could have gone on to become the best villain after Kingpin in Matt Murdock’s universe: Cottonmouth.

To say superhero adaptations have found groundbreaking levels of success on the big screen would be an understatement. As such, both Marvel and DC have looked to expand these exhilarating stories of good against evil into other mediums—including the likes of video games. Both the Batman Arkham franchise and Marvel's Spider-Man saga have proven that players are eager to step into the shoes of these iconic characters if there are also polished gameplay mechanics and shocking(ly good) stories along the way.

As a result, many superhero video games were green-lit and announced in the past few years, including the likes of Marvel's Blade, Marvel's Wolverine, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, and Monolith Productions' Wonder Woman. Unfortunately, not all of them will get to see the light of day as the industry suffers from even more layoffs and cancelations.

Paul W.S. Anderson, known for directing the Resident Evil film series and the cult classic sci-fi horror Event Horizon, is stepping into new territory with his latest project, In the Lost Lands. This fantasy-action film is adapted from a 1982 short story by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.

Anderson described the film as an “adult fairy tale,” full of “bone-crunching violence” and “horrific surprises.” He explains that this movie is unlike anything he has done before, especially in terms of its look and tone. “It’s very different to anything I’ve done before,” Anderson says. “I really wanted to embrace the mythic fairy tale quality of it, so it’s an R-rated fairy tale, that’s for sure.”

There has been a lot of news from DC Studios in the past several days. Some of it has been great, some of it has been less than great, and some of it is somewhere in the No Man’s Land of interpretation and opinion that lies between the two. Some of it is a bit concerning when it comes to how this universe is coming together. Ideally, this universe will mimic what happens in the comics with standalone stories, crossovers, and huge Crisis style events. Delroy Lindo may be battling with vampires this April in Sinners, but the veteran actor is already gearing up to take on Titans in Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Lindo has officially signed on to the newest Godzilla x King sequel.

Warner Bros. will release the new Monsterverse movie in theaters on March 26, 2027.

Lindo joins the previously announced Kaitlyn Dever (No One Will Save You), Jack O’Connell, and Dan Stevens, who will reprise his role as kaiju expert Trapper from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Jurassic World Dominion(2022) is the sixth entry in the Jurassic Park franchise and follows in the wake of the events of 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. At this point in the franchise, dinosaurs have spread out across the globe and are being captured and exploited by the uber-wealthy to further genetic research. It's a good movie, and fans can check it out on streaming when it hits Peacock on March 2.

Dominion sees the return of classic Jurassic Park characters Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Alan Grant (Sam Neill), who team up with the Jurassic World protagonists Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard). Moon Knight will return to the MCU, but it might not be in the way fans expected. A few months ago, rumors began circulating that Marvel Studios was developing a Midnight Sons project, reportedly connected to the upcoming Blade reboot. While the studio has yet to make an official announcement, a steady stream of updates has kept the project in the spotlight.

Previously, reports suggested that Logan writer Michael Green had been hired to pen the script. However, this was never officially confirmed by Marvel or other reliable sources.

Now industry insider Daniel Richtman reports that Michael Green is no longer a part of the project. Green is currently busy executively producing the ‘Blade Runner 2009’ series for Amazon Prime Video.

Marvel Studios recently announced that three rumored projects—Nova, Terror Inc., and Strange Academy—are no longer in active development. However, the studio has not confirmed nor denied the same for Midnight Sons.

Guillermo del Toro has a slew of unproduced projects, as is the case with most artists. There are usually multiple project ideas that are being developed simultaneously, but one of them getting green-lit usually means that the other one will not happen, thanks to time and resource constraints. It’s not always easy to care about the human characters in the MonsterVerse movies, but Legendary is surely assembling quite the cast for their follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. THR reports that the great Delroy Lindo has joined the cast of the new MonsterVerse movie.

Plot details are naturally being kept under wraps at this time, but Legendary has teased that the sequel will feature “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.“ Kaitlyn Dever (The Last of Us) is set to star in the new MonsterVerse project, with Jack O’Connell (28 Years Later) said to be playing the brother of Dever’s character. Dan Stevens (Abigail) is also expected to reprise the role of Trapper, Monarch’s Titan veterinarian who memorably replaced Kong’s infected tooth with a metallic one in the last movie.

Marvel Studios has a lot of characters, teams, and stories to turn into interesting Disney Plus TV shows and big-budget movies. We’ve seen creators take characters like the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy and turn them into household names. It’s one of the reasons why projects such as Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror Inc. were reportedly planned to be future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.

Unfortunately, it sounds like all three of those projects have been placed on hold. Deadline reports that "these projects were never officially greenlit, and may still come to fruition at some point" but that Marvel "has simply shifted its priorities at the moment.”

The Blade reboot's development remains in the balance following behind-the-scenes issues and the departure of multiple directors. Marvel tapping Mahershala Ali for its troubled Blade movie was one of the biggest and most exciting announcements of 2019, and while the movie has yet to even begin production despite its original release date being in 2023, that hasn’t stopped Ali from finding roles in other projects. In a day swirling full of news, one of the more intriguing announcements via Deadline was that Ali would star in a new movie, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, which comes from director Bassam Tariq. Tariq had previously been attached to direct Marvel’s Blade movie starring Ali, but it was announced in 2022 that he had departed the project to be replaced by Yann Demange, who also left the project last year. Blade is currently without a release date or director.

Mahershala Ali has been cast in Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, a new film directed by Bassam Tariq. The project is being developed under Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures, bringing Ali and Tariq together again after their previous collaboration on Blade was affected by creative changes.

Tariq, known for Mogul Mowgli, is directing from his own script. Ali, a two-time Academy Award winner, is attached as both the lead actor and a producer. Orion Pictures, operating under Amazon MGM Studios, has been focusing on character-driven stories and projects featuring diverse voices.

Ali’s involvement follows his roles in Leave the World Behind and Swan Song. He remains part of Blade, a Marvel Studios film undergoing revisions. Tariq, who had originally been set to direct Blade, left the project in 2022 and has continued developing new work outside the superhero genre.

Details on production schedules and additional casting have not been released.
