Marvel Studios has adapted many characters from the comics, no matter how minor or strange. From Doctor Strange to the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, it appears that no character was too difficult for Marvel to pull off into making a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Yet one title has been a struggle — Blade. First announced at Comic-Con 2019, the movie has had more than three different release dates, with giving up its November 7, 2025, release date. As of this writing, there is no word on if or even when Blade will open in theaters, and it is approaching six years since the movie was first announced. For reference, that is the same amount of time from when Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Iron Man to the release of The Avengers.
The movie's delays have been cited as due to a number of issues behind the scenes, including changes to the script and a director change.

Sean Connery walked away from acting after a career spanning five decades. His most popular role was obviously 007 as he is still considered one of the best James Bond actors ever. He also had some noteworthy roles in films like Murder on the Orient Express, Highlander, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Hunt for Red October, and The Rock.
His final on-screen role was playing Allan Quatermain, a character that originated in King Solomon’s Mines, in the comic-based film, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Interestingly, the movie had a big role in the actor embracing his retirement life as he had major issues while working on the film.

He has won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in the 1987 film The Untouchables. His health may have also factored in the actor’s decision to give up acting altogether.

Ridley Scott's legendary film Blade Runnerwas a flop when it debuted in 1982, but today it looms large over pop culture. The main reason, arguably, is not Harrison Ford's titular hero, but rather his nemesis, the replicant Roy Batty. A new documentary about Rutger Hauer, who brought Roy to life, evokes his most famous moment with its title: Like Tears in Rain. Despite Hollywood legend, the speech was not improvised, rather Hauer shortened the dialogue and filled it with silent emotion that made Roy Batty the film's most human character.

Marvel movies and TV shows are all part of a shared world known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, Marvel’s video games tell their own separate stories, with no connection between them.
For example, Marvel’s Spider-Man by Insomniac Games has no link to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy from Eidos-Montreal. Upcoming titles like Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Marvel’s Wolverine, and Marvel’s Blade are also completely independent from one another.
But things could have been very different. At one point, Disney considered creating a Marvel Gaming Universe (Mgu), which would have tied all Marvel games together in the same way the MCU connects its movies.
The Mgu was first mentioned by Alex Irvine and Alexander Seropian on The Fourth Curtain podcast. Both were involved in the project before it was ultimately scrapped.

A writer for Marvel Rivals opened up about a shared universe of Marvel video games that never took off. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has revolutionized film and television with its interconnected storytelling, most Marvel games have lacked this narrative cohesion. Usually, each title tells its own standalone story, unrelated to the others. Players are left with games that, while inspired by the same Marvel characters and stories, remain largely disconnected from one another — but Marvel could have had its own MCU for games, once upon a time.
In a March 13 episode of The Fourth Curtain podcast (via IGN), co-host Alexander Seropian and the episode's guest, longtime Marvel games writer Alex Irvine, revealed there was once a pitch for a Marvel Gaming Universe. Seropian, best known as a co-founder of Bungie, ran Disney's video game publishing arm until 2012. Irvine most recently contributed story and dialogue writing to Marvel Rivals. During...

The superhero movie genre changed forever as a result of the release of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films, which officially brought the world of Stan Lee’s Marvel Comics into the mainstream. While Blade had been a hit as an R-Rated action film and X-Men appealed to niche comic book readers, Spider-Man became one of the biggest films of 2002, proving that superhero stories were there to stay. Although development on an official Spider-Man film had taken many years, with various creative teams involved, Raimi had the foresight to make a brightly colored, optimistic version of the iconic webslinger that captured the sense of fun that was evident in Lee’s original material. It also came down to brilliant casting; Tobey Maguire captured the geeky charisma of Peter Parker, Kirsten Dunst embodied the “girl next door” archetype that Mary Jane Watson represented, and J.K. Simmons felt lifted directly from the panels...

Blade Runneris one of the greatest science fiction films ever made, but the path to it being recognized as a transcendent masterpiece was not as straightforward as one may imagine. Throughout the film’s production, competing creative collaborators involved had radically different ideas on what the end product should look like; original author Philip K. Dickwas distraught about the differences with the source material, director Ridley Scottfelt that he was not allotted the freedom he desired, Harrison Fordbecame furious about having to record a voiceover narration, and Warner Brothers was determined to make a more “commercial” film that would appeal to a broad audience. Despite the fact that it underperformed at the box office when it debuted in the summer of 1982, Blade Runner has been re-released in several different versions on home video and streaming.

Fortnite is one of the biggest, if not the biggest live service games in the world right now. Over the years, Epic Games has added a ton of content to the game. While the collaborations and events are what get the most attention, we’ve seen a lot of weapons added and removed from the game.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a big interconnected machine where every single movie and TV series takes part in the same world and builds towards the same narrative. As such, even the smallest of changes in the upcoming slate of projects could have dire repercussions that would need a lot of workarounds. Unfortunately for Disney, we've seen more and more of these unfortunate changes in plans over the last few years.
Kang is no longer the main antagonist of the Multiverse Saga, big projects such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness were released much later than originally anticipated, and no shortage of films have been reportedly scrapped at Marvel. But the worst part? A highly-anticipated movie that was announced almost six years ago could have been delayed until after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars. There goes our hope of seeing a beloved Marvel icon join Earth's Mightiest Heroes in their upcoming crossover.

Since taking over the reins at DC, James Gunn has been pretty vocal regarding his prioritization of writers and screenplays over anything else, which continues to be the driving force behind Dcu projects. With the Dcu set to commence next month, starting with Gunn’s passion project Creative Commandos, Gunn has clarified that, moving forward, future Dcu announcements will heavily rely on writers.

Since its inception, Rotten Tomatoes' reputation as a respected movie review aggregation has grown tremendously. For over 25 years, Rotten Tomatoes has been one of the most reliable sources of entertainment recommendations. Using the Tomatometer, which provides scores based on the collective opinions of hundreds of film and television critics, Rotten Tomatoes has become a trusted measurement of critical entertainment recommendations for millions of fans. While Rotten Tomatoes scores can provide a glimpse into the quality (or lack thereof) of a given movie or television series, sometimes the scores don't justify a project's worth. Sometimes, mediocre films are given favorable scores due to the production companies they are attached to. Other times, quality movies are unintentionally disparaged by low scores. For example, undeniable classics like The Goofy Movie, Blade, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Top Gun all boast Tomatometer scores of 59% or lower, despite being well-regarded among fans.

Ask any stunt person, and they'll tell you: the ability to sell taking a punch is just as important, and perhaps more so, than credibly throwing one. Ask any editor or sound designer, and they'll corroborate this and then some. If you've ever watched raw dailies from an action movie, you'll note how oddly weightless a lot of fight sequences become when they're robbed of their rhythm and the satisfying Thwam sound of their body blows. All this is to say that action in cinema is so incredibly dependent on selling the total effect of the violence, even more than show-stopping stunts and feats of strength and dexterity. Since it's all in the timing, it's no wonder that so many great action directors either come from or are adept at comedy -- from Buster Keaton to Jackie Chan.

Although students of film look to the past to learn what inspired modern filmmaking, groundbreaking cinema is being created every day. With the world of entertainment being more fast-paced and streamlined than ever before, filmmakers are finding new and innovative ways to tell stories for all audiences.
General audiences have been outspoken about their feelings that many films nowadays all feel similar. However, there are plenty of modern masterpieces that deserve more praise for what they've done for filmmaking today.
John Wick Changed the Action Genre John Wick (2014)
John Wick is now considered to be one of the biggest and best modern action franchises today, including four films, a prequel streaming series and the spinoff film Ballerina, set for release later this year. While the massive success seems obvious now, the first John Wick film was initially destined to be a straight-to-dvd and Blu-ray release after initial test screenings went poorly.

When Eternals was released in 2021, it became Marvel Studios' first "Rotten" movie. Between that and the fact it dropped during the final months of the pandemic, the movie struggled to make a significant impact at the box office and grossed only $402 million worldwide.
While there's no denying it was a little overstuffed (including an abysmal villain in Kro), there was a lot about Eternals that did work. The movie arguably has something of an undeserved bad rap, particularly as it showed a different side of the MCU and set the stage for exciting future stories.
Unfortunately, four years later, Marvel Studios still hasn't announced plans to resolve the movie's big cliffhanger. As a result, it's unclear when or where we'll learn what became of the Eternals taken from Earth by Arishem for judgment after their role in stopping Tiamut's emergence.

Vampires are one of the classic monsters of horror and fans of the genre thoroughly know their various flavors and tropes. From the suave and seductive to the hideous and cruel; from the rules-bound and magical to the mindless mutants, the iconic bloodsuckers have taken on many different forms. Numerous writers and directors have offered their own unique takes that have combined, or dropped, different styles. One director, however, has a truly original vision for vampires that has been appearing in his work for decades. Guillermo del Torro's contribution to the Blade franchise gave the world a new and gruesome interpretation of vampires that continues to stand out today.
While Blade's vampires were already well-established by the comics and the first film, del Torro introduced a special variant for Blade 2. Far from the monsters that can pass for human, these "Reapers" were a new type of threat and far more animalistic and savage.

Ridley Scott's classic sci-fi actioner Blade Runnercreated a futuristic dystopia in which humans and replicants (a.k.a. synthetic humanoids) fight for their personhood — a world and moral question that's endured for decades. Since its 1982 debut, a growing fanbase has watched the original movie spawn an ever-expanding franchise. Filmmakers have made several spin-off shorts, Blade Runner Black Out 2022, 2036: Nexus Dawn, and 2048: Nowhere to Run, that further lay out the universe's lore. They also made the offshoot animated series Blade Runner: Black Lotus, as well as started developing an upcoming limited series on Prime Video called Blade Runner 2099. However, its biggest sequel installment in the saga so far is the film, Blade Runner 2049.

The Marvel Universe is expanding, and it shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. The superhero giant is now looking to take over the video game world after reaching unprecedented levels of success both on the big screen and comic book pages. Paul W.S. Anderson, known for directing the Resident Evil film series and the cult classic sci-fi horror Event Horizon, is stepping into new territory with his latest project, In the Lost Lands. This fantasy-action film is adapted from a 1982 short story by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.

Tom Burke has been chatting about the upcoming Blade Runner 2099 series and says it’s closer to Ridley Scott’s original sci-fi classic in its aesthetics.
We’ve not heard much about Blade Runner 2099, Prime Video TV sequel to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner and Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. As the title suggests, Blade Runner 2099 will be set after the events of the two films and will once again explore what it really means to be human.
The series’ cast includes Hunter Schafer and Michelle Yeoh in the lead roles, and the pair will be joined by Tom Burke in the series. Burke recently chatted to Variety about his role in Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag, but the talk quickly turned to all things Blade Runner.
Naturally, Burke was unable to share much, but he did say that Blade Runner 2099 would lean into the...

Lifelong fans of Marvel Comics, the ones who were there long before the MCU was even a concept, know all too well that we've only really scratched the surface of what is to come. It seems like only yesterday we were singing the praises of the first Iron Man film, and today, we're already well into phase five and well on our way to phase six. For lifelong Marvel fans, that means finally seeing more of their favorite heroes making their full-blooded introductions to the larger MCU world, even if they've already been a part of it.
With the first MCU Fantastic Four film still well underway, despite delays, many fans are nowturning their attention to Daredevil: Born Again. Set to follow the first series, this one is reportedly going to be even darker and grittier. However, as excited as most fans are to see this iconic character take another...

Ladies and gentlemen, I implore you! Please bear witness to today’s Gunslingers trailer and revel in the action and unseriousness of this delightful preview for what looks like an off-the-wall Western starring Nicolas Cage, Heather Graham and Stephen Dorff.
Today’s Gunslingers trailer is the shot in the arm I needed. I’m a massive Nicolas Cage fan, especially when he’s most unhinged. Don’t get me wrong, I love his dramatic roles in films like Pig, Leaving Las Vegas, and Dream Scenario. However, allowing Cage to be at his Cageiest is a cure for what ails ya.
Brian Skiba directs Gunslingers from his own script. The story unfolds in Redemption, where reformed gunslinger Thomas Keller (Dorff) and a mad genius, Ben (Cage), are guided by a spiritual leader named Jericho toward vindication. While wrestling with his inner demons, Keller runs afoul of the Five Points Gang. The confrontation forces Keller’s hand,...

Ridley Scott's Blade Runneris carrying on an impressive legacy. Fans of the 1982 sci-fi classic likely never dreamed of getting another film in the dystopian neo-noir world Scott expertly crafted, that is, until Denis Villeneuve got his shot at making a sequel. With Blade Runner 2049, the Dune director made a sequel so good it could stand on its own, and now Prime Video has put together an impressive team to expand on the Blade Runner saga in Blade Runner 2099, an upcoming sequel series that promises to take the franchise back to its roots.
Blade Runner 2049 is a show-stopping sci-fi film starring Ryan Gosling as a replicant blade runner who is confronted with hints of a potentially reality-altering past. Villeneuve's sequel beautifully recaptured the minimalist, hologram-focused sci-fi dystopia, including the grittier and more chaotic elements of the original film. Prime's sequel series, Blade Runner 2099, will take...

There have been numerous theories and rumors relating to Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios' fourth solo Spider-Man movie, and speculation really kicked up a few notches when some pretty wild reports about which characters could be involved in the story started doing the rounds a couple of months back.
Now, a new rumor may give us a better idea of what to expect.
According to Daniel Richtman, Spider-Man 4 is basically being developed as "a direct sequel" to Avengers: Doomsday that will bridge the gap between the 2026 film and 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars.
We have heard that Tom Holland's wall-crawler is going to have a major role in Doomsday, so Spider-Man 4 serving as a follow-up (to at least some extent) would make sense.
Though Spidey didn't feature in the recent MCU concept art that found its way online, the images did lead to some intriguing theories relating to...

Many directors' films end up with multiple versions as a result of studio intervention, international re-cuts, or re-released director's cuts. Ridley Scott is certainly one of those filmmakers, having created different director's cuts for 10 movies throughout his career — Robin Hood, Alien, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster, The Martian, Gladiator, The Counselor, Legend, Kingdom of Heaven, and, perhaps most controversially, his sci-fi masterpiece, 1982's Blade Runner. The 1992 re-edit of the film is, despite some controversy, widely considered to be one of the greatest director's cuts of all time, eliminating certain things and inserting others (the unicorn dream) in order to create more metaphysical mystery and ambiguity. But that wasn't the only director's cut of Blade Runner.
In 2007, for the 25th anniversary of Blade Runner, Ridley Scott released what is known as 'The Final Cut' of the film, which is now streaming on Netflix beginning today (you can watch it...

One of Blade star Wesley Snipes’ most underrated movies is now free to stream. The actor and martial artist, who is best recognized for his role as the Marvel vampire hunter, a role he reprized in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine, puts in a reliably charismatic performance as a boxer behind bars in the action/boxing/prison drama, Undisputed. You can now discover the movie without spending a dime, and it deserves a second round.
Released back in 2002, Undisputed is written, produced and directed by Walter Hill, the filmmaker behind the likes of the nightmarish ‘70s thriller The Warriors and producer of the Alien franchise. The movie stars Ving Rhames as George "The Iceman" Chambers and Wesley Snipes as Monroe "Undisputed" Hutchen, a pair of fighters who find themselves facing off while serving time behind bars. While Marvel Studios has been credited with delivering some of the most epic superhero pieces to Hollywood, it has also been criticized for making some really terrible decisions – some of which have already backfired and some of which fans are expecting to do so real soon. Unfortunately enough, Daredevil: Born Again has been a victim of it as well.

For one, one of the creative decisions taken by them includes getting rid of a really epic character in the early stages of his introduction in the television-verse. But fans feel this decision was nothing short of a fumble on their hands, for the character was one who could have gone on to become the best villain after Kingpin in Matt Murdock’s universe: Cottonmouth.

To say superhero adaptations have found groundbreaking levels of success on the big screen would be an understatement. As such, both Marvel and DC have looked to expand these exhilarating stories of good against evil into other mediums—including the likes of video games. Both the Batman Arkham franchise and Marvel's Spider-Man saga have proven that players are eager to step into the shoes of these iconic characters if there are also polished gameplay mechanics and shocking(ly good) stories along the way.
As a result, many superhero video games were green-lit and announced in the past few years, including the likes of Marvel's Blade, Marvel's Wolverine, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, and Monolith Productions' Wonder Woman. Unfortunately, not all of them will get to see the light of day as the industry suffers from even more layoffs and cancelations.

Paul W.S. Anderson, known for directing the Resident Evil film series and the cult classic sci-fi horror Event Horizon, is stepping into new territory with his latest project, In the Lost Lands. This fantasy-action film is adapted from a 1982 short story by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.
Anderson described the film as an “adult fairy tale,” full of “bone-crunching violence” and “horrific surprises.” He explains that this movie is unlike anything he has done before, especially in terms of its look and tone. “It’s very different to anything I’ve done before,” Anderson says. “I really wanted to embrace the mythic fairy tale quality of it, so it’s an R-rated fairy tale, that’s for sure.”

There has been a lot of news from DC Studios in the past several days. Some of it has been great, some of it has been less than great, and some of it is somewhere in the No Man’s Land of interpretation and opinion that lies between the two. Some of it is a bit concerning when it comes to how this universe is coming together. Ideally, this universe will mimic what happens in the comics with standalone stories, crossovers, and huge Crisis style events. We don’t want a carbon copy of the MCU, but they are both based in comic books.
Let’s quickly go over some of the news recently broken.
Matt Reeves still hasn’t finished the script for The Batman which isn’t entirely surprising considering the huge delay. Gunn said it’s “not the plan” to have Pattinson become the Dcu’s Dark Knight,...

Moon Knight will return to the MCU, but it might not be in the way fans expected. A few months ago, rumors began circulating that Marvel Studios was developing a Midnight Sons project, reportedly connected to the upcoming Blade reboot. While the studio has yet to make an official announcement, a steady stream of updates has kept the project in the spotlight.

Guillermo del Toro has a slew of unproduced projects, as is the case with most artists. There are usually multiple project ideas that are being developed simultaneously, but one of them getting green-lit usually means that the other one will not happen, thanks to time and resource constraints. Del Toro saw himself exit one Tom Cruise project for another film that is yet to see the light of day.

Marvel Studios has a lot of characters, teams, and stories to turn into interesting Disney Plus TV shows and big-budget movies. Marvel tapping Mahershala Ali for its troubled Blade movie was one of the biggest and most exciting announcements of 2019, and while the movie has yet to even begin production despite its original release date being in 2023, that hasn’t stopped Ali from finding roles in other projects. In a day swirling full of news, one of the more intriguing announcements via Deadline was that Ali would star in a new movie, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, which comes from director Bassam Tariq. Tariq had previously been attached to direct Marvel’s Blade movie starring Ali, but it was announced in 2022 that he had departed the project to be replaced by Yann Demange, who also left the project last year. Blade is currently without a release date or director.

Mahershala Ali has been cast in Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, a new film directed by Bassam Tariq. The project is being developed under Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures, bringing Ali and Tariq together again after their previous collaboration on Blade was affected by creative changes.
Tariq, known for Mogul Mowgli, is directing from his own script. Ali, a two-time Academy Award winner, is attached as both the lead actor and a producer. Orion Pictures, operating under Amazon MGM Studios, has been focusing on character-driven stories and projects featuring diverse voices.
Ali’s involvement follows his roles in Leave the World Behind and Swan Song. He remains part of Blade, a Marvel Studios film undergoing revisions. Tariq, who had originally been set to direct Blade, left the project in 2022 and has continued developing new work outside the superhero genre.
Details on production schedules and additional casting have not been released.
