French-Swiss actress Irène Jacob, best-known for her star-making turns in Krzysztof Kieślowski’s The Double Life of Veronique (1991), and Three Colors: Red (1994), will be honored at this year’s Locarno Film Festival with the Leopard Club Award for her contribution to contemporary cinema.

The award ceremony will take place at Locarno’s Piazza Grande on the evening of Friday, Aug. 9 and be followed the next morning by a public conversation with Jacob at Forum @Spazio Cinema. The festival will screen Kieślowski’s Three Colors: Red in tribute.

Chariots Of Fire actor Nigel Havers leads the tributes to UK film and commercials director Hugh Hudson who passed away at the age of 86 on Friday (February 10).

The actor called starring in Hudson’s 1981 classic ”one of the greatest experiences of my professional life” and said he was “beyond devastated” by the news. “Like so many others, I owe much of what followed to him. I shall miss him greatly.”

Antonio Banderas, who starred in Hudson’s 2016 Spanish-language film Altamira, said on Twitter: ”Good bye mister Hudson.

Hugh Hudson, a British filmmaker who debuted as a feature director with the Oscar-winning Olympics drama “Chariots of Fire” and later made such well-regarded movies as “My Life So Far” and the Oscar-nominated “Greystoke,” has died at age 86.

Hudson’s family issued a brief statement announcing that he died Friday at a hospital in London “after a short illness.”

A London native, Hudson started out as a documentary editor and producer and also worked in television advertising before finding work in feature films in the late 1970s as a second-unit director on Alan Parker’s “Midnight Express”. In 1981, producer David Puttnam asked Hudson to direct “Chariots of Fire”, which starred Ben Cross and Nigel Havers as British athletes of contrasting religions and backgrounds at the 1924 Olympics.

Seven-time Golden Globe winner and 15-time nominee Jane Fonda, 83, will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced today.

The annual award is given annually to “a talented individual who has made a lasting impact on the film industry,” the HFPA said in a statement. Previous honorees include Tom Hanks, Oprah Winfrey, Robert De Niro, Audrey Hepburn, Harrison Ford, Jodie Foster, Sophia Loren, Sidney Poitier, Steven Spielberg, Denzel Washington, Robin Williams and many others.

David Puttnam has stepped down from his role of producer on Arctic 30, a drama about controversial oil exploration in Arctic waters, to chair a House of Lords special committee on ‘Democracy and Digital Technology’.

The committee will research opportunities offered and threats posed to democracy by the digital sector.

Iain Smith will take over from Puttnam as lead producer on Arctic 30 with production scheduled for February or March 2020 in Iceland, following the country’s winter. Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur is confirmed to direct the feature, shooting at his Rvk Studios in Reykjavik.

The moment stands out in Susan Lacy's compelling, fluidly constructed documentary, not just for its off-the-cuff irreverence but because of its banter. Otherwise, notwithstanding the talking-head commentary of friends, colleagues and exes, this is very much a first-person story, taking its narrative cues from Fonda's self-searching 2005 autobiography.

The first trailer for the Antonio Banderas-led Finding Altamira has arrived, following an archaeologist (Banderas) in 1879 who stumbles upon paintings with his daughter in a cave in northern Spain that brings to question the current conceptions of faith and being.

These revelations — and the questions they bring with them — threaten to tear apart his familial life, as well as the world at large, as the understanding of wall paintings over 10,000 years old strike at the hearts and minds of the faithful. In a blog post that appeared this weekend on her personal website, actress and activist Jane Fonda claimed that home shopping channel QVC cancelled her scheduled appearance on the network due to her political views.

Fonda, 73, was set to discuss her recently-published book “Prime Time” on QVC this Saturday, but she says that the network uninvited her after customers called to complain.

QVC reportedly said in a statement that it had canceled Fonda’s appearance but did not say why.

Absolut tries for an inspiring new viral ad...and promptly gets called out for aping a design master

Just a couple days ago, Absolut revealed its newest series of ads by Tbwa/Chiat/Day with the tagline "Doing something differently leads to something exceptional." Watch the spot, and it's kind of heartwarming--as Absolut is happy to write on its YouTube page, "A group of artists come together in locations around the world to create art pieces that spell out the philosophy of Absolut Vodka." Awww! But not so fast: Commentary about the ads--which are being flogged in a Facebook-based campaign, among other places--immediately pointed out the eerie similarity with a long-running project, "This I Have Learned in My Life So Far," by massively influential graphic designer Stegan Sagmeister:

Jane Fonda says the internet has changed her life. The 71-year-old actress had barely used a computer before starting an online diary on her website, janefonda.com, but feels closer to her fans after giving them regular updates about her new Broadway play "33 Variations."

Paris -- The 19th Dinard Festival of British Film will open with the 1999 movie "My Life So Far," as part of a tribute to director Hugh Hudson.

Hudson is due in the Brittany beach resort to introduce a retrospective of his films including the multiple Oscar-winning Olympic tale "Chariots of Fire" and the Tarzan adaptation "Greystoke." There also will be a retrospective on the films based on Daphne Du Maurier's work, including Alfred Hitchcock's "Rebecca" and "The Birds" and Nicolas Roeg's "Don't Look Now."

Six independent British films will compete for Dinard's Golden Hitchcock Trophy. The Anglo-French jury this year is presided over by Gallic actor Lambert Wilson.

Other French premiere screenings scheduled include "The Duchess," directed by Saul Dibb and starring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes; Steve McQueen's hard-hitting Bobby Sands prison drama, "Hunger"; and Terence Davies' poetic ode to Liverpool, "Of Time and the City.
