If Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of Maria Callas in Maria made you cry, just wait til you get your hands on the most heartbreaking performance of her career. One of the most compelling and tragic biopics of its era, HBO’s 1998 made-for-tv film Gia chronicles the meteoric rise and fall of America’s first supermodel. Jolie gives an electric, career-defining performance as the titular Gia Marie Carangi, portraying the haunted supermodel with brutal honesty.

Angelina Jolie is one of the most celebrated actors of her generation, and one of Hollywood's most notable humanitarians. She's done vitally important work on behalf of refugees for the United Nations, and has also taken up for women's rights in the third world. She's an extraordinary person, but it all started with acting -- and overcoming the potential stigma of being what the kids nowadays call a "nepo-baby."
Yes, Angelina Jolie is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. Her father was a pivotal actor in the New Hollywood movement of the 1960s and '70s, starring in such trailblazing films as "Midnight Cowboy," "Deliverance," and "Coming Home" (for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor). Jolie got her first film role alongside her father in Hal Ashby's ill-fated comedy "Lookin' to Get Out" in 1982, but didn't return to movies until 1993 as the lead...

The 2012 movie Zero Dark Thirty is a gripping political thriller that was highly successful at the box office and was nominated for and won several awards, including an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing and a Best Actress Golden Globe for Chastain's performance. Because of its gritty portrayal of real events, Zero Dark Thirty is considered one of the best movies of the 2010s, and its streaming availability has brought it back into popularity.
The movie depicts a dramatized version of the US military's hunt for Osama bin Laden in the decade following the September 11 attacks. Zero Dark Thirty primarily follows Maya, a CIA intelligence analyst, in her work to track bin Laden as she interacts with different CIA and US Navy teams. While Maya is the primary character, Zero Dark Thirty features a broad and impressive cast of well-known actors who take inspiration from real figures in recent US history.

One of the most famous women in the world, Angelina Jolie, started acting right out of high school. Despite her outward appearance, she has described herself as an awkward outsider at Beverly Hills High School, where she was teased because by her rich classmates. She lived with her mother in an apartment, and the family existed only on child support from her father actor Jon Voight, who had financial problems of his own. She later transferred to a different school and found her identity as what she describes as “a punk chick with tattoos.”
She began her career in a series of forgettable films (“Cyborg 2” anyone?) but then suddenly grabbed attention in the TV mini-series “George Wallace.” The series depicted the life of the title character, who was a controversial governor of Alabama and a presidential candidate. Jolie received very positive reviews as his second wife, Cornelia. Later that same...

Columbia Pictures thought Charlie’s Angels would be the icing for her career. Currently available to stream on Starz, Three Women is based on Lisa Taddeo's New York Times bestselling non-fiction book. The series follows Sloane, Lina, and Maggie as they explore their sexuality and discover what they want out of intimate relationships. In addition to Woodley, the main cast includes DeWanda Wise, Blair Underwood, Betty Gilpin, and Gabrielle Creevy.

In our Oscar odds, Mikey Madison (“Anora”) and Karla Sofia Gascon (“Emilia Perez”) have emerged as the front-runners for Best Actress. But the first of those films is a comedy and the latter is a musical. Since comedies and musicals are separated from dramas at the Golden Globes, that opens up a golden opportunity for a dramatic actress to assert herself this awards season. As of this writing, it looks like that actress will be Angelina Jolie (“Maria”).
Jolie is the front-runner for Best Film Drama Actress for her biographical performance as opera singer Maria Callas. The film is directed by Pablo Larrain, who guided Natalie Portman and Kristen Stewart to Best Actress Oscar nominations for the respective biopics “Jackie” and “Spencer.” Currently, Jolie leads our Globe forecasts with 37/10 odds. Angelina Jolie’s first Oscar win was tarnished by an incident that still haunts her fans. Jolie and brother James Haven got a little too comfortable on the red carpet, and the sibling’s one kiss grossed out many people. It was not a peck on the cheeks but a shocking lip-lock that many media outlets captured and made their flashing headlines the next day.

While Angelina Jolie has been lauded for her performances in films like Gia, Girl, Interrupted, and Changeling, her off-screen antics have always put her in the limelight. Everything has been fodder for the paparazzi, from her highly publicized relationship with Brad Pitt to their eventual divorce.
Jolie’s early days were also marred by controversies. She made headlines when she and her then-husband Billy Bob Thornton wore vials of their blood as necklaces. The mother of six now, mentioned that she was not too proud of those days and did not imagine herself as a mother.

Angelina Jolie's action movies have solidified her legacy as a true action movie star, despite her recent shift towards drama. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Mr. and Mrs. Smith have left a lasting impact in the action movie genre, leading to reboots and adaptations. Although Jolie's upcoming projects seem focused on drama, the potential spy thriller Maude v Maude may offer a chance for her action side to shine once again.
Two years ago, I thought Angelina Jolie was making an action movie comeback, but now I fear that her movies will no longer be part of the genre. Jolie first established her career in the 1990s, picking up roles in movies like Hackers and Gia. However, her big break came in 1999 when she played Lisa Rowe in Girl, Interrupted. From there, Jolie catapulted to international fame, taking on iconic roles in varying genres, such as Lara Croft, Mrs.

If there was a decade that truly helped to shape the future of the crime thriller genre, it was undoubtedly the 1990s. The era churned out numerous movies that have become the benchmark for how to craft a movie about the hunt for a serial killer, or flashing femme fatales with a penchant for murder. Movies such as The Silence of the Lambs, Misery, Se7en and Basic Instinct set a benchmark for not only quality in the crime flick, but also by delivering iconic sequences that are synonymous within the genre. Lambs had Anthony Hopkins’ wonderful Chianti sipping performance, Misery gleefully smashed ankles, Se7en had the tragic head in a box scene, while Basic Instinct allowed Sharon Stone to show more than just her acting ability. The point is, by the time the movie we’re focusing on in this episode was released in 1999, audiences had preconceived expectations, thanks...

A few key stories have emerged with the dust settling on the 77th Annual Tony Awards. One, we should have seen “Merrily We Roll Along” when we had the chance (it closes July 7!). Two, it’s great that Brooke Shields has broken the Crocs-red carpet barrier. And three, why does Eddie Redmayne singing directly into the camera give us the willies?
With that out of the way, though, awards-obsessives can crack out their abacuses and start making charts to see who is getting closer to achieving Egot status.
Egot, of course, stands for Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, Tonys, and while Sunday night didn’t put anyone over the top, we have a few celebs who can start giving it serious thought.

When the 2023 Primetime Emmy nominations were revealed, Ali Wong and Pedro Pascal both had the honor of being included in multiple performance lineups. The real Bonnie and Clyde may have died in 1933, but the legend of the couple's crime spree lives on in the form of songs, stories, and one groundbreaking movie. Arthur Penn's "Bonnie and Clyde" took Hollywood by storm when it hit theaters in 1967, generating controversy for its on-screen violence and sensuality -- and kick-starting nationwide conversations about who deserves to be the subject of a movie. While film fans still talk about these topics today, the movie's brutal final shootout feels mild compared to modern blood-soaked movie scenes.
Still, "Bonnie and Clyde" is a fantastic film, thanks in large part to its great cast. Warren Beatty plays cocky Clyde Barrow to Faye Dunaway's initially innocent Bonnie Parker, while actors Michael J. Pollard, Gene Hackman, and Estelle Parsons round out the Barrow gang. A young Gene Wilder made his big screen debut as one of Clyde's hostages, while Denver...

Angelina Jolie, a highly accomplished actress and filmmaker, expressed her doubts about starting out as an actress in today's Hollywood due to the expectation of being public and sharing personal details. She believes that Hollywood is not a healthy place. Jolie's experience living in the constant spotlight, as well as her divorce, affected her perception of Hollywood. She lost the ability to live and travel freely and seeks authenticity in her life. Despite her reservations, Jolie enjoyed being part of the Marvel family and expressed her willingness to explore her character, Thena, further. She sees the potential to appear in other Marvel movies and is open to the idea of returning to the role in the future.

Angelina Jolie has been a part of numerous films throughout her career, including popular titles like Maleficent and Tomb Raider. After joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jolie has not participated in any new projects except for a voice role in Kung Fu Panda 4. Jolie has shifted her focus to behind-the-scenes roles, including directing, producing, and writing, with several successful films under her belt. She has an upcoming project called Without Blood.
It's been over two years since Angelina Jolie last appeared on the big screen playing Thena in Eternals. But there is a good reason for the actress to stay away from the spotlight.

In 2021, 15-year-old Mckenna Grace broke new ground as the first child ever nominated for a guest acting Emmy. The notice came for her performance as Esther Keyes on Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which could bring her another Best Drama Guest Actress bid this year. She also currently has a shot at a nomination for Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actress for Peacock’s “A Friend of the Family,” which would make her the all-time youngest performer with mentions in multiple Emmy categories.
Grace, whose 17th birthday will precede the 2023 Emmy nominations announcement by 17 days, appears on “A Friend of the Family” as Jan Broberg, a future actress who was kidnapped at ages 12 and 14 by her neighbor, Robert Berchtold. The true crime series also stars Jake Lacy as Berchtold and Colin Hanks and Anna Paquin as Broberg’s parents. (Watch our exclusive video interview with Grace.)

First Thirst is dedicated to the onscreen moments that awakened our earliest desires.
As culture lovers, we know that our earliest film and television loves often go hand in hand with childhood crushes and other new and (ahem) exciting feelings. Ask someone their favorite childhood movie, and it’s more than likely they also had the hots for one of the main characters, even if it was a cartoon fox.
Most people can easily pinpoint the first time they obsessed over a movie star, or the sex scene they stumbled on a little too soon. You don’t have to be a cinephile to agree that movies shape our beliefs around sex and sexuality, and carry messages about gender and gender roles. Whether positive or negative, awakening or shameful — we all have vivid memories of our first onscreen crush or sex scene.

With her Best TV Movie/Miniseries Actress bid for Prime Video’s “The English,” Emily Blunt is now a four-time Screen Actors Guild Award nominee. Since she already clinched the Best Film Supporting Actress trophy for 2018’s “A Quiet Place,” she is on a path to becoming the 14th female recipient of individual SAG Awards for both big and small screen acting. Given the fact that her 40th birthday precedes this year’s ceremony by only three days, she would be the fifth youngest woman to ever pull off this feat.
The quartet of younger actresses who would rank ahead of Blunt on said list is comprised of Angelina Jolie, Helen Hunt, Halle Berry and Kate Winslet. Winslet received a bookend miniseries actress trophy for “Mare of Easttown” just last year at age 46.

Hot off her 2022 Best Film Actress SAG Award victory for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” Jessica Chastain is now in the running for the organization’s Best TV Movie/Miniseries Actress prize as the star of Showtime’s “George and Tammy.” This would be her third SAG Award win in as many categories, as she achieved her first one as an ensemble member of the 2011 film “The Help.” It would also make her only the fourth person to ever pull off back-to-back solo SAG Award wins for two different performances.
The special consecutive champions club Chastain is looking to join was formed in 2000 by Angelina Jolie, who was honored that year for her supporting turn in the film “Girl, Interrupted” immediately after her TV movie performance in “Gia” was lauded by the acting guild. Since 1996, the record for youngest Best TV Drama Actress SAG Award winner has been held by Gillian Anderson, who was 27 when she collected her first of two consecutive trophies for “The X-Files.” Over the years, her title has stood intact against several would-be usurpers, including Emma Corrin (25), her costar from “The Crown” who she herself defeated in 2021. Now, one year after Jung Ho-yeon (“Squid Game”) came within 52 days of lowering the bar, Anderson could lose her position to someone who wasn’t even born at the time of her 1996 triumph: 26-year-old “Euphoria” star Zendaya.
All four of Zendaya’s challengers in the current drama actress race are, unlike her, also nominated in the ensemble category. Along with Elizabeth Debicki (“The Crown”), she stands as one of two total SAG Awards newcomers in the lineup. Considering all 10 TV acting Golden Globe categories, the widest age range of the year involves the Best Comedy Actress nominees. 51 years separate reigning champ Jean Smart (71) of HBO Max’s “Hacks” from first-timer Jenna Ortega (20) of Netflix’s “Wednesday,” while the gaps in the other categories range from 27 to 47 years. Smart is looking to break her own record as the all-time oldest recipient of this lead award, but she faces a formidable challenge from Ortega, who could set a new precedent as the youngest winner in this category and second youngest performer to snag a TV Golden Globe of any kind.
Rounding out the 2023 Best Comedy Actress lineup are Selena Gomez, Quinta Brunson, and Kaley Cuoco, making for an average age of 38. Ortega, who would be the first TV acting Golden Globe winner born during the 21st century, is the second youngest contender in this category’s history, after 19-year-old Patty Duke.

With the new year being only a few days away and everyone reflecting on their best moments in 2022, The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice revealed that her and Luis "Louie" Ruelas’ wedding was her favorite moment she's had on TV. Rhonj viewers have witnessed a lot of Teresa's life throughout the years, from raising her girls to her ongoing feud with the Gorgas and marriage to Luis. However, similar to the beliefs of many people, Teresa has a ritual of reflecting on the previous year and thinking positively about the next year.
The Rhonj Og may not have had a completely rosy 2022, but she sure had one of the most memorable moments from her fairytale wedding to Luis. The wedding, which took place on August 6, 2022, at the Park Chateau Estate & Gardens in East Brunswick, New Jersey, was one of the most talked-about Rhonj-related events of the year.

Angelina Jolie movies list is so loaded it’s hard to pick which is her very best and which are not so cool. My foolproof technique for doing this for any actor is to check what critics and audiences are saying across multiple channels. That’s exactly how I arrived at ranking Angelina Jolie’s movies from best to worst. In the end, you can hardly go wrong with the multiple award winning actress. Even the worst movies on the list feel somewhat watchable because of her graceful and charming personality. There are scarcely a handful of actors that come close to Jolie’s reputation.

Photo: ‘Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls’ I’ve been watching ‘America’s Next Top Model’ and ‘Dance Moms’ for years, two shows that base critique on the industry standards already in play, two shows that reward poor body image, two shows that feed on drama and conflict. But Black big girl bombshell Lizzo came to change the game completely with her new Amazon Prime show ‘Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls’, a competition-based reality show on the hunt to find Lizzo’s newest big girl backup dancers for her show at Bonnaroo and her next tour. That’s right, ‘Watch Out for the Big Grrrls’ features plus-sized women in a way no other show has ever achieved: as dancers. Big girls of all different backgrounds are flipping and splitting and kicking and moving and taking care of their bodies (and showing off their bodies) for eight 45 minute episodes.

Unlike on the film side, the SAG Awards do not distinguish between leading and featured roles when it comes to rewarding TV performances. While this year’s TV Drama Actress races pits star turns against scene-stealers, the five nominees for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress are all leads: Cate Blanchett (“Mrs. America”), Michaela Coel (“I May Destroy You”), Nicole Kidman (“The Undoing”), Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Queen’s Gambit”), and Kerry Washington (“Little Fires Everywhere”).
Our odds currently favor Taylor-Joy (82/25), who is predicted to add this award to a mantle already crowded with Golden Globes and Critics Choice trophies. She is followed in order by Blanchett (4/1), Coel (4/1), Kidman (9/2), and Washington (9/2).
Kidman is a previous winner in this category, having bagged a trophy in 2018 for “Big Little Lies.” She also reaped bids for the TV movies “Hemingway & Gellhorn” (2013) and “Grace of Monaco” (2016). A victory this year would make her the fourth...

Last month, Anya Taylor-Joy became the second youngest Golden Globe winner of the Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actress category when she took home the statuette for “The Queen’s Gambit.” And now the 24-year-old can duplicate that same feat at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where she’s again the heavy favorite.
Just like at the Globes, Taylor-Joy would be blocked from the “youngest winner” title by the same person, Angelina Jolie. Jolie was 23 when she nabbed the Globe and SAG Award for her turn in the HBO film “Gia” in 1999. But Taylor-Joy’s potential SAG achievement would be more notable because while the Globes have now awarded four women in their 20s in limited series/TV movie actress, Taylor-Joy would only be the second twentysomething to win the corresponding SAG category.

When it comes to the Screen Actors Guild Award for television movie/limited series actress, name recognition goes a long way. But for first-time nominee Michaela Coel, nominated this year for “I May Destroy You,” pushing boundaries is the name of the game. Though she contends here for her acting, SAG voters are sure to consider that Coel also created, wrote, co-directed and produced the series when filling out their ballots.

In “I May Destroy You,” Coel plays Arabella Essiedu, a social media influencer and novelist caught in the spiral of new fame and heavy partying. After one blackout night at bars with her friends she slowly unravels her memory of that evening, forcing her to confront both the internal and external traumas of sexual violence.
With this first SAG nomination, Coel contends against one other first-timer, Anya Taylor-Joy in “The Queen’s Gambit.

As widely expected, Anya Taylor-Joy took home the Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actress Golden Globe on Sunday for “The Queen’s Gambit.” At 24, the actress is now the second youngest winner in the category.
Angelina Jolie is the youngest champ, having won the second of her three Globes at 23 for the HBO film “Gia” in 1999. Taylor-Joy bumps back Laura Dern to third youngest. The five-time champ won the first of her five Globes at 25 in 1993, less than three weeks shy of her 26th birthday. Taylor-Joy, who was also nominated on the film side for “Emma,” is the fourth woman in her 20s to win the category; Lady Gaga is the other, having been 29 at the time of her triumph for “American Horror Story: Hotel” in 2016.

One of the few ostensible surefire locks of Sunday’s Golden Globes is in the Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actress category. “The Queen’s Gambit” star Anya Taylor-Joy is the overwhelming frontrunner with 31/10 odds and every Expert and editor backing her for the win. Suffice it to say, if she doesn’t prevail, it’d be a huge upset. If she does indeed win, Taylor-Joy would not only have new decor for her mantel but she’d be the second youngest person to win the category.
The 24-year-old would be second to only Angelina Jolie, who was 23 when she scored her second of three Globes for her turn in “Gia” in 1999.
