"Bel Ami" is a close adaptation of Guy de Maupassant's classic tale of one man's meteoric rise on the Parisian social ladder, a climb he makes by exploiting the society's most important women. From behind, we watch a man in ragged clothes look longingly through the window of a fancy Belle Epoque Parisian restaurant. Inside, richly attired women whisper secrets over brimful glasses of champagne and decadent platters laden with food. Robert Pattinson film: Guy de Maupassant's Bel Ami Twelve minutes from the latest Robert Pattinson film, an adaptation of Guy de Maupassant's Bel Ami, have been uploaded online. It's been rumored for awhile, but Deadline announced late last week that the movie, based on the Guy de Maupassant novel, will be premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, though it is out of the competition. IMDb currently has the release date for Bel Ami listed for March 2 in both the Us and UK, which would give fans only a little over a month to wait for the opening. The release date has changed before, but hopefully this time it'll stick.

One film I thought for sure was going to be on the fall festival circuit was the Robert Pattinson drama Bel Ami. We got a trailer right before it kicked off last summer, but the film based on Guy de Maupassant‘s classic novel was nowhere to be found. With a new, more polished trailer today we have news of an actual release, but unfortunately not in the Us.

I’ve been interested in Pattinson’s post-Twilight career, as this is one of his two upcoming films; the other being David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis. Ami seems like it will appeal to the crowd of his mega-franchise more, but it actually looks to be a solid drama, with Pattinson displaying complete swagger power over a trio of woman (Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci). The film is directed by Declan Donnellan. Bel Ami is the story of Georges Duroy (Pattinson), who travels through 1890s Paris, from cockroach ridden garrets to opulent salons, using his wits and powers of seduction to rise from poverty to wealth, from a prostitute’s embrace to passionate trysts with wealthy beauties, in a world where politics and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an obsession.

The final instalment of the much-adored Twilight saga is not in cinemas until late next year, but star Robert Pattinson is already setting his stern brow on an acting career that outlasts his popular vampire-dom.

Like his co-star Kristen Stewart, Pattinson will always have to live with the double-edged sword of phenomenal success they enjoyed with the Twilight series. StudioCanal just released its international trailer for Bel Ami, Robert Pattinson’s upcoming film based on the same-name novel by Guy de Maupassant. In the period film, Pattinson plays George Duroy, a young journalist who climbs the social ladder in 1880s Paris by exploiting the city’s wealthiest and most influential women (Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas). As is usually the case in these tales, his love for a pure-of-heart ingénue (Christina Ricci) forces him to choose between his soul and his ambition.

From this preview, we learn that Duroy may not sparkle, but he does seduce. Oh boy, does he seduce.

Robert Pattinson is headed back to the big screen, but this time he's the opposite of chaste.

The actor helped draw an impressive amount of Twi-hards to theaters for "The Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 1," which opened to $140 million in November. But while teenage girls may forever associate him with ultra-pale dreamboat Edward Cullen, Pattinson is on to other projects; one being his role as a young journalist in the film Bel Ami, based on the novel by Guy de Maupassant.

"We were really true to this book, but because the guy is basically a shit and wins everything at the end it's really difficult to market it -- especially with me in it," the self-deprecating star told Total Film in a recent interview. The trailer looks intriguing enough, especially with Pattinson dramatically uttering the words, "I've been such a fool" to co-star Christina Ricci.
