Lionsgate has finally launched the brand new trailer for their upcoming action-thriller Ballerina, offering a killer new look at Academy Award-nominee Ana de Armas (Knives Out; No Time to Die; Ghosted) heading into action as Eve Macarro, and it looks like her mission just got considerably more difficult than we imagined as she'll soon find herself up against Baba Yaga himself!
Yes, as the trailer reveals, The Director (Anjelica Huston) will send John Wick (Keanu Reeves) after Eve, in a last-ditch effort to stop her vendetta. John will offer her a choice, leave or die, and the battle commences. It certainly adds an interesting wrinkle to the film, as we were all previously under the assumption that Wick and Macarro would be allies and fight together, which could obviously still happen, but it looks like things will head into a different direction before the credits roll.

When March 17th rolls around, you better be wearing green to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Well, at least if you don't want to get pinched. As the name implies, St. Patrick's Day is a Catholic feast day that honors the life and legacy of Saint Patrick, the fifth century Bishop and patron saint of the Emerald Isle. In the 1,564 years since he died (give or take) his feast day has evolved into a general celebration of Irish heritage. Because as you might have heard, the Irish love to have a good time. For that reason, St. Patrick's Day (St. Paddy's or St. Pat's Day for you informal types) is one of our favorite holidays.
Alas, when it comes to movies, St. Patrick's Day doesn't get the same attention as Christmas, which basically has an entire film genre dedicated to it. It's certainly not as cinematically celebrated as Halloween, which essentially includes every horror movie.

Whether your first introduction to him was through 8mm, The Boondock Saints or something completely different, it’s more than likely that the first time you watched Norman Reedus do his thing it was in an action-centered role. The actor has a real vibe for the genre in what many might consider to be a situation of art imitating life — or vice versa. Take for instance his long-running role on the beloved TV series The Walking Dead as Daryl Dixon. On screen, his character, who is now knee-deep in an uber-successful spin-off series, is an incredibly talented motorcycle rider. Off-screen, the same can be said for Reedus, who is the host of a motorcycle-based travel series titled Ride with Norman Reedus. Essentially, when it comes to all-things action, it’s just something that Reedus has on lockdown or like a piece wrapped in his DNA.

You might think that Troy Duffy’s 1999 vengeance-driven action flick The Boondock Saints and Ruben Fleischer’s 2022 adventure feature, Uncharted, have nothing in common and — for the most part — you’d probably be right. But here at Collider, we’re more about bringing people together than apart, so just bear with us for a second. Both films feature two male leads and each lean into a strong action base, with The Boondock Saints driven by seeking vengeance and retribution and the duo from Uncharted on a quest for treasure. There’s plenty of gunpowder smoke in both movies and they each have sequels on the way. Perhaps most importantly, both The Boondock Saints and Uncharted will soon be available for Max subscribers when they land on the platform on January 1.

The Boondock Saints turned 25 in 2024, marking an important anniversary for the Tarantino-esque cult classic in which two Irish brothers decide to take the law into their own hands. While the movie didnt impress critics, it cultivated a die-hard fan base and can be credited as a launching pad for the career of The Walking Deads Norman Reedus. With stylish action sequences, over-the-top characters, and an unforgettable performance by Willem Dafoe, The Boondock Saints is a truly unique watch even a quarter century later.

The Boondock Saints director Troy Duffy gleefully admits that he ripped off Quentin Tarantino for the Willem Dafoe scenes. Written and directed by Duffy in his feature debut, the 1999 film follows Irish twin brothers who turn into vigilantes after killing two Russian mobsters in self-defense and, following a shared epiphany, the brothers embark on a mission to cleanse Boston of its criminal underworld in the name of God, all while being tracked by an FBI Agent. The Dolby Theatre, home to the Oscars for the past two decades (and through at least 2028), has a new owner.
An investment group led by Elie Samaha purchased the 3,400-seat Dolby in Hollywood. The deal even includes 1.5 acres of surface parking lots.
The theater had been managed and operated by investment firm Canyon Partners and owned by California Public Employees’ Retirement System. The parties have been in talks since July.
Samaha is a long-time producer, and in a bit of irony, the home of the Oscars is now owned by the guy who produced “The Boondock Saints” (he’s not involved with the new one) and “Battlefield Earth” — the latter is considered in some circles to be one of the worst movies ever made.
But Samaha is better known as the owner of the Tcl Chinese Theatre, which is right next to the Dolby and still hosts plenty of premieres.

Sean Patrick Flanery confirms that production on The Boondock Saints 3 will begin this coming spring. The original Boondock Saints followed Flanery and Norman Reedus as twin Irish Catholic vigilantes who embark on a mission to rid Boston of its criminals. A sequel later followed, and a third movie was discussed for years after. The Boondock Saints 3 was officially announced in 2021, with both Flanery and Reedus returning. However, updates beyond that have been slow.
During a recent Q&a moderated by Screen Rant's own Jeff Heller, Flanery was asked if he could provide any additional information about part 3 of the franchise after Reedus confirmed to Screen Rant that the film was actually happening. While he could not share any more specific details, he was able to confirm that he had received word from Reedus the previous day about the production window. Here's what Flanery had to say:

Norman Reedus has recounted his disastrous first on-screen kiss in a forgotten 1998 thriller, Dark Harbor, explaining how he needed the director's help to do it right. With a seasoned acting career behind him, Reedus is no stranger to kisses onscreen, having performed multiple across his time in movies and TV series. His latest kiss was in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2, episode 2, where his titular character kissed Clmence Posy's Isabelle. The surprising moment was also an important one for the story of the zombie series moving forward.
But, speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Reedus recalled his disastrous first on-screen kiss with Polly Walker (Bridgerton) in the 1998 thriller Dark Harbor. The actor remembers kissing her and using his tongue twice in a row, both times surprising his scene partner. He ended up asking the director, Adam Coleman Howard, about his performance, who told him what he was doing wrong. Reedus apologized to Walker,...

The Unpopular Opinion is an ongoing column featuring different takes on films that either the writer Hated, but that the majority of film fans Loved, or that the writer Loved, but that most others Loathed. We’re hoping this column will promote constructive and geek fueled discussion. Enjoy!
The first time I watched the cult classic action film The Boondock Saints, I was seventeen and immediately fell in with the 93% fresh rating from audience members on Rotten Tomatoes. A certified rotten, 17% rating from critics? Psh, I didn’t care.
Years later, I now know the truth. This is a terrible movie. It’s beyond even laughably bad and into the realm of just plain outright bad. As I re-watched it for this column, I couldn’t help but keep saying things like “this doesn’t make sense. This – this, it – this movie doesn’t make any sense! What’s going on?...

There are several returning characters in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2, both from the spinoff show's first season, and from the original Walking Dead series. There are quite a few exciting surprises in store for Daryl Dixon season 2, from new glowing zombie variants to the return of a favorite character from The Walking Dead: Carol Peletier. Along with those new introductions, though, the show will also see the return of some characters from season 1, and the fight for survival in France is about to get even more complicated.
Since it began, Daryl Dixon has been weaving an intricate story about life in the zombie apocalypse. Through the conflict between the Union of Hope and the Power of the Living, Daryl Dixon has essentially become a political opera. While that certainly adds to the quality of the show, it also makes things more complicated. Keeping track of all the...

After sharing a tease yesterday, Lionsgate has shared the first official trailer for their upcoming John Wick spinoff Ballerina, which stars Academy Award-nominee Ana de Armas in the lead role as a young assassin named Eve Macarro, who, after a tragedy, begins training in the ways of the Ruska Roma and plots her vengeance against those that wronged her family.
The film's official synopsis reads, "Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma."
While the trailer does give us plenty of footage of the fan-favorite Cuban actress kicking all kinds of ass across the world, it wraps up with the most epic of cameos as the one-and-only Keanu Reeves reprises his iconic role as John Wick, a.k.a. Baba Yaga, and it looks like he'll...

There are three generally accepted rules for living a long and happy life. 1) You don’t spit into the wind. That’s really just common sense. 2) You don’t tug on Superman’s cape. 3) By God, if you really want to live a long life, you 100%, not under any circumstances, for any reason, F*ck with John Wick’s dog. We have all learned nothing good happens from making John Wick angry. While we’ve already had one spin-off of the successful franchise, the upcoming film Ballerina promises to take us even further into the crazy underworld of one of the most fascinating franchises to emerge in a long time.
Where Did Ballerina Come From?
This film began life way back in 2017 as a stand-alone film. Shay Hatten wrote an action script with a female lead called Ballerina. The lead would be a ballerina assassin who goes on a revenge killing spree.

The recent (and final) trailer for this years Sony Spider-Man Universe outing Venom: The Last Dance reveals that Marvel supervillain Knull will make his live-action debut. While it has not been revealed who will play the character when Venom 3 lands in theaters next month, a new rumor has emerged claiming that The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus will be the one to take on the role of the all-powerful god of the symbiotes. Reedus has been rumored for a role in Venom: The Last Dance for some time (with Google at one stage even listing him as playing Aunt May of all people), with this latest speculation coming courtesy of X/Twitter user @SoulessCinema.
The rumor is currently far from being confirmed, but Reedus would certainly make a solid choice for Knull in the Venom sequel. Best known for his role as Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead series, from...

The Killer was released in 1989, and although rumors of an American remake were discussed for years, it would be a while before it was finally released. The 2024 Peacock release falls short of capturing the original film's palpable action and character connections. The updated The Killer fails to replicate the chemistry and emotional depth of the original, proving the remake is a misstep.
Hong Kong-based film director John Woo displays a masterclass in both action and emotional storytelling through his 1989 thriller The Killer. Due to its overwhelming success, an American remake was slowly coming to fruition in 1992. However, due to thematic misconceptions, script rewrites, and scheduling conflicts, audiences had to sit tight and wait another 32 years. Can you believe it?

The 1990s was an amazing decade for movies. There were a ton of indie films making waves in Hollywood. Some of these were immediate hits when they were released, but others bombed at the box office. Either way, the '90s was a good decade for some of the best cult classics ever made.
It's hard to hone in on a definitive list of the best '90s cult classics. After all, there are so many fantastic films from this decade to choose from, including underrated gems like 12 Monkeys, Cry-Baby, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Trainspotting, Bottle Rocket, and Reality Bites. However, there are certain movies from the 1990s that have penetrated the zeitgeist more than others. These 90s cult classics are bound to continue appearing on college dorm room posters and remain well-loved by fans into the future.

The Boston movie subgenre emerged from a crime wave, gang wars, and government corruption, fostering a gritty, brooding tone. The genre is flexible, allowing for thrillers, dramas, and neo-noir, with Oscar contenders like "Mystic River" and "The Departed." Some iconic entries in the genre include "The Friends of Eddie Coyle," "Gone Baby Gone," and "The Town," known for their compelling narratives.
Since the 1970s, the Boston movie has become its own cultural institution. Spurred by a sudden crime wave, a series of gang wars, and rampant government corruption in the Bay State, this loose subgenre has coalesced over the past half-century into something familiar. By the end of the 2000s, the Boston movie became associated with a particular tone, set of themes and cast of characters often including ensembles pairing Matt Damon and Ben Affleck some combination of Afflecks (Casey or Ben) and Wahlbergs.

It’s been fifteen years since the release of The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, but The Boondocks Saints 3 is still in the works. In fact, according to star Norman Reedus, the sequel is going to be even bigger than the previous two movies.
“Just that it’s happening, and it’s going to be bigger,” Norman Reedus told ComingSoon when asked about the third film. “Yeah, it’s the group that did the John Wick stuff, so they’re making a big thing of it. Yeah, the opening scene of it, I think they’re keeping the original script idea, which is awesome, you know. So there’s obviously we have to break out of jail. We’re in jail, you know. Boondock Saints 3 aims to surpass the poor critical reception of the first two movies. The original film was critically panned but gained a cult following on home video. Boondock Saints 3 needs a simpler story and more focus on comedy to succeed.
The Boondock Saints 3 has been confirmed to be in development, and it needs to break the unflattering record the series currently has with Rotten Tomatoes. Released in 1999, The Boondock Saints follows Connor and Murphy MacManus, a pair of brothers in Boston who become vigilante killers targeting one of the larger mobs in town. The film's hyper-violence and dark comedy made it highly controversial when it was released, leading to a critical drubbing and a major box-office disappointment.
However, the film eventually became a cult classic that generated a sequel (that also failed to earn many critical raves). With a third Boondock Saints on the way with Norman Reedus and...

Before his days as one of the most beloved characters in The Walking Dead franchise, Norman Reedus began to stake his claim to fame when he starred in The Boondock Saints, which arrived in 1999. Not exactly a favorite of critics at the time, the film starred Reedus as Murphy and Sean Patrick Flanery as Connor. The pair portrayed two Catholic brothers turned vigilantes who take it upon themselves to rid the city of Boston of its criminal underbelly. However, the bloody nature of the war they wage on crime sees them as the target of Willem Dafoe's FBI agent Smecker.

Norman Reedus' Boondock Saints 3 Update Is Exactly What I Needed To Hear About The Franchises Return
Norman Reedus' update on The Boondock Saints 3 eases concerns about the sequel, promising some resolution to the previous movie's cliifhanger. There is a new creative team on Boondock Saints 3, with Thunder Road Films (John Wick) taking over. Over 15 years on from the second film, hopefully Boondock Saints 3 will be worth the extended wait.
Norman Reedus' latest update on The Boondocks Saints 3 sets my mind at ease about the sequel. Before The Walking Dead made him a huge TV star, I was always a fan of Norman Reedus. He was the type of character actor who would pop up in movies like Blade 2 or Gossip and basically steal every scene. The Walking Dead only confirmed his star power, as his character Daryl evolved from a supporting guest character to becoming one of the franchise's main players.
Of course, The Boondock Saints duology was Reedus' biggest claim to fame before The Walking Dead.

Boondock Saints 3 is happening at the perfect time, but worries remain about potential damage to the franchise. Nostalgia and Norman Reedus' fame give the film great chances for success, with interest already guaranteed. The quirky nature of the original film presents a challenge for the sequel, as failure could tarnish the franchise.
The Boondock Saints 3 is finally happening, and at the perfect time too, but that doesn't do much to quell my fears. The upcoming threequel has been a long time coming, with the last movie in the franchise, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, released in 2009. Boondock Saints 3 seemed to be in development hell, but after all this time, this could be a good thing. The film has never had a better chance of success, but given the cult-classic status of the original 1999 movie, I'm still worried about how a new installment could damage the franchise.

Prior to the immense success of television shows like "The Last of Us" and "Fallout," many audiences felt that video game adaptations were cursed. There were plenty of quick cash grabs and bizarre attempts at movie adaptations that just didn't work throughout the years, but one secret standout is the 2006 Christophe Gans film "Silent Hill." Based on the Konami video game series of the same name, "Silent Hill" follows a mother (Radha Mitchell) who goes into the uniquely haunted town of Silent Hill to try and rescue her adopted daughter, Heather (Jodelle Ferland). While the film isn't super accurate to the story from the games, it does capture the mood and some of the themes and completely nails the aesthetic, which can be half the battle with video game titles as visually recognizable as "Silent Hill." There's just nothing quite like its grungy industrial meat locker vibe and its delightfully disturbing monsters,...

The Boondock Saints is the very definition of a cult classic. It survived a tepid box office, exploded in popularity when it hit home video, and continues to inspire debate to this day. Some find the vigilante exploits of brothers Connor (Sean Patrick Flanery) and Seamus McMurphy (Norman Reedus) to be an ultraviolent good time. Others don't, and unfavorably compare it to Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction. Despite initial poor reviews, Christian Bale's portrayal of John Preston and the movie's unique fight scenes have gained a cult following. Director Kurt Wimmer combines elements of classic dystopian films to create a thought-provoking story of fighting against oppressive regimes.
Starring the likes of Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, Carrie-Ann Moss as Trinity, and none other than Keanu Reeves as truth-seeker Neo, The Matrix made its theatrical premiere on Mar. 31, 1999, and instantly made a monumental impact on the big screen. Norman Reedus' success in The Walking Dead could be matched or exceeded in the upcoming John Wick spinoff, Ballerina. Reedus' involvement in Ballerina could attract The Walking Dead fans to the franchise, potentially boosting its success. The John Wick franchise's track record of creating compelling characters for a variety of actors suggests Reedus' role could be a career highlight.
