Cineverse has extended its existing deal with Davis Panzer Productions, securing digital rights to nine titles including the original Highlander movie.
Starring Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert, the 1986 action-adventure fantasy film grossed just $5.9 million but became a popular title in home video and pay-tv windows, spawning multiple sequels. Its tagline, “There can be only one!” became a piece of pop-culture lore. A Highlander TV series ran for six seasons in the 1990s and also yielded a spinoff series.
The multi-year, multi-territory agreement gives Cineverse streaming rights for its namesake service and Midnight Pulp as well as distribution via other digital platforms and streaming outlets. A reboot of the feature film and franchise is currently in development at Lionsgate. Chad Stahelski of John Wick fame is set to direct and Man of Steel–The Witcher star Henry Cavill will play the lead role of Connor MacLeod.

Nearly four decades after the original film debuted, the Highlander remake nears production as fans get closer to seeing Henry Cavill's portrayal of the eponymous Scottish 16th-century immortal. While rooted in ancient times, director Chad Stahelski teases a more modern-day story with the reboot and confirms when production begins.
Speaking with The Direct, Stahelski hinted at what audiences can expect in the new Highlander, explaining how the remake will handle its multi-century time jumps. According to Stahelski, the Lionsgate film will move from the early 16th century to "beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong," assuring fans there'll be a "big opportunity for action" while claiming that it will be a (sort of) love story.

The Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill has received a disappointing update. Filming for the new film will begin later than originally planned.
Redanian Intelligence reports that the Highlander reboot's filming schedule has been pushed back from January 2025 to May 2025. The delay appears to be as a result of Cavill's Voltron film being scheduled to shoot from December 2025 until April 2025, leaving the star little time to shoot the Highlander flick. The Cavill-led reboot of the 1986 film currently has a 2026 release window.

From Renaissance rakes like Charles Brandon in The Tudors to Clark Kent in Man Of Steel, Henry Cavill's career skyrocketed into A-list stardom with continuing momentum. His name has not only become synonymous with defining leading men in film but also as a passionate advocate for fandoms with die-hard audiences. It's been confirmed that Henry Cavill will be leading the reboot of the classic Highlander franchise, which had a hot-and-cold presence throughout the 80s and 90s.
Filming of Highlander is said to take off by 2025 and already seems to be gaining some mystique and hype over how it will be re-introduced to the silver screen. John Wick director Chad Stahelski will next direct a Highlander reboot with Henry Cavill in the lead role. The new film will bring back the character that spawned a franchise in the ’90s, with Christopher Lambert playing the lead. As Stahelski announced several updates about the film, even Elon Musk couldn’t help but get excited about Cavill’s film.

The earlier Highlander franchise began with the 1986 film of the same name. Lambert’s character Connor MacLeod, aka Highlander, is an immortal swordsman in the films. While the film was a financial failure, it later achieved a cult status.

There can be only one. Or, in the case of the "Highlander" franchise, there can be only six movies, three TV shows, and a web series, not to mention nine tie-in novels, two comic book titles, a card game, and a video game for the Atari Jaguar.
The mythology of the "Highlander" movies started pretty simply, spinning centuries-old tales of knight-errantry into a modern fable of magical immortality. Russel Mulcahy's 1986 original laid out the rules clearly: hiding among ordinary humans is a species of magical immortals who can only be killed by decapitation. When one Immortal decapitates another, they absorb their victim's life energy, becoming stronger and more exhilarated. The legend goes that when there is only one Immortal remaining on Earth, they will be granted a wish called The Prize. The central Immortal of the series, a 16th century Highlander named Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), wishes more than anything to grow old.

A decade ago, director James Ward Byrkit brought us a surreal, Twilight Zone-ish sci-fi thriller called Coherence (watch it Here), which JoBlo’s own Eric Walkuski gave an 8/10 review you can read at This Link. Now Deadline has revealed that Byrkit and It’s What’s Inside producer Kate Andrews are teaming up to develop a follow-up of some sort to Coherence! As Deadline notes, “Plot details are being kept under lock and key — including whether the new film will be a prequel, sequel, or a different story entirely.”
Byrkit crafted the story for the first film with Alex Manugian, coming up with the following set-up: Eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of events due to the malevolent influence of a passing comet.
Coherence starred Emily Foxler, who now goes by Emily Baldoni (Five Feet Apart), Maury Sterling (Smokin’ Aces), Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Seeking a Friend for the End of the World...

Henry Cavill is about to start intense training for his role in the Highlander reboot and is very excited about it. The reboot will not be a simple remake of the original movie but could incorporate elements from the Highlander TV series. The director's plans to establish an ongoing Highlander franchise suggest that Connor MacLeod's journey to "The Prize" will be longer and more complex than in previous iterations.
Henry Cavill has offered an exciting update concerning his role in the upcoming Highlander reboot. Set to be helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski, development on the long-gestating project dates as far back as 2008, when Lionsgate subsidiary Summit Entertainment first acquired the rights to the franchise. Working from a script penned by John Wick: Chapter 4 scribe Mike Finch, Stahelski’s Highlander movie is expected to be the first installment in a continuing franchise set in the world of...

I’m always skeptical when it comes to reboots. On the one hand they can be well justified and prove to be a success (Casino Royale, 2006) but on the odd occasion it can backfire and you find yourself walking the exact same path again (The Amazing Spider-man, 2012). There are several reboots in the pipeline, one of which I’m not too keen on, The Crow, which to me feels like an insult to the performance and memory of Brandon Lee. However, a reboot of 80s action-fantasy Highlander (1986) I’m well and truly behind.
Highlander has a special place in my heart, with its basic – if a little silly – premise. Fallen warriors who have been resurrected as immortals take part in “The Game”, where they must behead each other, until the last remaining two fight for “The Prize”. How can you not love that as a concept? A simple set up...

One Tree Hill fans can expect a familiar face on the set. The CW series has been renewed for a 9th season. We thought actor Paul Johansson might be returning and today we learned he comes back in more way than one.
Johansson, who plays the wicked Dan Scott, will actually direct at least one episode in the show’s final season. At 47 years of age, fans had been seeing Johansson act on the Hill since Season 1′s inception, but he just got knocked back into series regular status. This news came from TV Guide.
Johansson isn’t the first One Tree Hill actor to try his hand behind the camera. Austin Nichols, Bethany Joy Galeotti, James Lafferty, Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush have all directed series episodes.
Paul Johansson has appeared in The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, Alpha Dog, Highlander: The Raven and may act in upcoming adaptation Atlas Shrugged.

It’s that time of year again, kids. Dread Central’s 2010 Horror at the Oscars coverage. Horror was indeed present this year and in black-tie. While Roger Corman and Lauren Bacall were honored a few months back at the Governor’s Award Ceremony, it was an unexpected delight to see Corman, recipient of the lifetime achievement Oscar, enjoy a standing ovation on national television.
I was, however, very disappointed that neither of them were allowed to speak. Roger Corman’s contributions to modern cinema are too vast for him to just stand up and wave. James Cameron was one of many Corman acolytes present, and his nomination speaks to Corman’s tremendous legacy. On the Terminator DVD Cameron mentions, "I trained at the Roger Corman Film School.” Jonathan Demme, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola, among many others, were also former students.
