His smile, laughter, and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched.”
In addition to “Starsky & Hutch,” Soul starred in the Western series “Here Comes the Brides” and movies like “Magnum Force,” “Salem’s Lot” and more. He was also a singer and released several albums in the ’70s and ’80s, and the No. 1 single “Don’t Give Up on Us.”
Born in Chicago on August 28, 1943, Soul started acting on stage in the ’60s and began pursuing his passion for music.

From Bananaman to Grange Hill, join us in a spot of TV nostalgia as we celebrate 50 great 1980s kids' TV theme songs...
There comes a time to turn away from the horrors of the world and retreat underneath the soft, comforting duvet of nostalgia. That time is Friday. That metaphorical duvet is below.
Here are fifty of the best kids’ TV theme songs (spread over two pages and in arbitrary order) of the 1980s. Some, like Alan Hawkshaw’s distinctive Grange Hill intro, are unarguable classics of the era, while others, like Mike Harding's Count Duckula, only started in the late-eighties and spent the rest of their run in the next decade.
Obviously, there being only 50 on this list, we may have missed out your favourite (deliberately or otherwise). Let us know if so, but remember that links may take a while to appear in the comments thread because...

20 year old newcomer Sally Messham, a final year student at Rada, has been cast as Jane Watkins, the daughter of exorcist Merrily, in ITV Encore’s new three-part drama Midwinter of the Spirit.
Sally (represented by Curtis Brown), will leave Rada early to take up the role alongside the double BAFTA award-winning actress Anna Maxwell-Martin who leads the cast as Merrily Watkins, a single mother who isn’t your average country vicar.
Merrily’s newly acquired training has put her on the dark side of the pulpit. She’s become one of the few women priests working as an exorcist - a job increasingly mistrusted by the modern Church and rarely talked about, even though it operates in virtually every diocese in the UK.
Merrily is deeply human in her doubts and scepticism, but her knowledge of the paranormal underworld brings her to the notice of local police who need...

A Russell T Davies TV project is always something to be excited about. From gifting us Queer as Folk to saving Doctor Who, he has given us a lot to be grateful for over the years. Hence why his various comeback series on Channel 4, E4 and online later this month are being greeted with such a sense of anticipation.
Cucumber, Banana and Tofu come 16 years after Davies shook up TV with Queer as Folk and his new shows look likely to be just as exciting, exploring the passions and pitfalls of 21st century gay life with a candid sense of humour.
But will it create as many stars as Davies's previous Channel 4 series? Here's what happened to the Queer As Folk stars after it ended in 2000.

The actor has died at the age of 67.After leaving school at 15, he initially worked as a copy boy at the Manchester Evening News and had dreams of being a footballer before the acting bug bit and he began performing in amateur dramatics at the Huddersfield Rep and the Liverpool Playhouse. This police procedural about a pair of bent coppers goes by the book. Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham are brother bobbies who murder a murder suspect, Mark Strong's the colleague on their tail and Brian Cox is their confused elderly dad, whose dementia could let the secret slip at any moment. The cast is ironclad, but they struggle with a script by old school TV writer Bill Gallagher (Clocking Off, The Prisoner, Dalziel and Pascoe) that likes to doublecheck we've got everything before ambling off towards the next heavy trope. The dead man pops up to council his attackers; flashbacks fill the holes the dialogue left behind. The soundtrack rumbles incessantly, until the Bad Thing happens, when it cuts out for dramatic effect. Originality may be out of Blood's jurisdiction, but it manages to plods on,...

Actor and lead singer with the Flying Pickets during the early 1980s, he went on to take roles in several popular TV series, including Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale
Brian Hibbard, who has died of prostate cancer aged 65, first found fame as a member of the Flying Pickets, a group of actors who left the socialist playwright John McGrath's 7:84 theatre group to woo audiences through their a cappella singing. They topped the pop charts in 1983 with a cover version of Only You, trumping Yazoo, the duo of Alison Moyet and Vince Clarke, who had reached No 2 with their original recording. This Christmas No 1 single and the group's flamboyant look – gaudy suits, large hats and Hibbard's massive sideburns – led to brief stardom for the Flying Pickets, a name coined because some of them had supported the miners during their strikes of 1972 and 1974. Jury member David Bell, Ecd at MercerBell, commented: “Pedestrian accidents must be quite a problem in Melbourne, so to highlight the danger the agency have come up with a very graphic and powerful analogy to make their point. A tram weighs as much as 30 rhinos, so be aware around trams.”
The Postcard of the Year event was scrapped this year, with organiser Avant Card saying it spent the budget on a new website instead.

Versatile producer and director who made Prime Suspect an enduring success
Paul Marcus, who has died of cancer aged 56, was best known for his award-winning work as producer of the television series Prime Suspect. However, most of his career was devoted to directing, for theatre and cinema, as well as for TV.
The first series of the police drama Prime Suspect, written by Lynda La Plante and following Dci Jane Tennison (played by Helen Mirren) as she led her first major murder investigation, was aired by Granada TV in 1991, to wide acclaim. Marcus was asked by Granada to take over as producer on the second series. He bravely invited an unknown director, John Strickland, to oversee the drama, but his choice proved justified, with Prime Suspect 2 matching the success of the first series and receiving an International Emmy award as well as Bafta recognition.

Lord Of The Flies Star Aubrey Dies
Lord Of The Flies star James Aubrey has died at the age of 62.
The former child actor passed away at his home in Lincolnshire, England on 6 April after losing his battle with pancreatitis.
Born James Aubrey Tregidgo in Austria in 1947, the Brit scored his first role when he was just a schoolboy, handpicked by director Peter Brook to portray Ralph in the classic 1963 movie adaptation.
He went on to carve out a career on the stage and in British television, later landing a part in 1970s U.K. series Bouquet of Barbed Wire and its spin off, Another Bouquet, while his other film credits include 1983's The Hunger and Richard Attenborough's apartheid drama Cry Freedom in 1987.
Aubrey also starred in British detective series Dalziel and Pascoe, Silent Witness and Heartbeat, and appeared briefly as a child on Broadway, in the 1962 theatre flop Isle of Children, which closed after just 11 performances.
He is survived by his sister Janet Fleming, and his daughter Sarah, from a previous marriage, reports the New York Times.

Actor known for his roles in Lord of the Flies and TV's Bouquet of Barbed Wire
It must be galling for an actor who has a reasonable track record of films, stage and television, stretching over decades, to be remembered mainly for a role he played right at the beginning of his career. It hints, often unfairly, that everything was downhill thereafter. A case in point was James Aubrey, who was 14 when he played Ralph, one of the principal characters in Peter Brook's film of Lord of the Flies (1963), a part for which he was highly praised.
Aubrey, who has died of cancer aged 62, was one of 30 British schoolboys chosen by Brook out of 3,000 candidates. In attempting to duplicate the conditions depicted in William Golding's novel about children on a desert island who have survived a plane crash, Brook transported his young cast to the island of Vieques,...
